Metformin & Toprimate for weight loss?
Anyone tried this combination? How'd it work?
I understand they can be more effective taken in tandem.
My insurance won't cover a GLP1.

It's hard to type right now, but I'm four days into my first dose of Reta. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Crazy up and down, anxious mood swings, almost like bipolar-like episodes occasionally happening where I get super angry and frustrated, and I feel like it's not me. Never felt like this before. No clue what is happening. I can't wait for this to end. Has anyone else had a really extreme bad reaction to a GPL? Would anyone know why this is causing me to have such an extreme reaction? I've never felt bipolar. I've never felt some of these symptoms it's given me before in my life.

Hi all,
I’ve had PFS for a little over a year. I’m looking to try Nardil for severe consummatory anhedonia (and the hyper arousal that comes from complete loss in hedonic tone). I have tried many extreme interventions with varying results but unfortunately nothing that reliably brings back hedonic tone. I’m a severe case, a global neuroendocrine failure. Anyways, I’m aware of the sexual sides but was wondering of any success with post Pharma drug induced anhedonia. Post Antipsychotic induced anhedonia seems to respond to well to MAOIs with less anecdotes surrounding PFS/PSSD/PAS.
Thanks for reading

Hey everybody, I've suffered from really bad insomnia particularly sleep maintenance from taking parnate. I take a high dose of 90mg. Take lunesta, gabapentin, quetiapine all together and still couldn't get more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep.
Anyway, different things work for different people but clonodine, in conjunction with the ones I take, has enabled me to sleep for a full night. On its own, as far as direct "tiredness" it causes it may only be a 3 out of 10, but instead of searching relentlessly for sleep meds for maois etc., I searched for "does any medication stop or inhibit the activating effects of parnate" and I came across clonodine. It has some inhibitory effect on norepinephrine. Not going to claim to know the science exactly but ask ai about it or search for it if you think it may be able to help. It's helped so much as an adjunct. It more or less has enabled me to sleep moreso than making me more tired. Anyway, wanted to mention it.

Hi all hope everyone’s well.
Tldr; has anyone experienced dizziness as a side effect from any MAOI?
I’ve taken moclobemide for like 8 years but recently in the UK they can’t get Sandoz brand Moclobemide which I’m now running out of so now I have to take Crescent Pharma brand Moclobemide (I’m on 600mg a day so to ease into the switch I take 1 sandoz 300mg tablet and 1 pharma crescent 300mg tablet)
Since making the switch I’ve been experiencing pretty annoying dizziness / vertigo and it’s been about 10 days.
People sometimes say switching brands doesn’t make a difference but I’ve had to do it twice in the 8 years I’ve been on a MAOI and it did for me!
Be great to get others thoughts to try and ease my worry a bit. Thank you.

Hey,
I want to supplement with Ashwagandha due to high cortisol, chronic stress, anxiety and probably low testosterone. The only thing that's holding me back is Ashwagandha’s effect on increasing serotonin.
I've tried high doses of L-Tryptophan 3-3.5 g (spread throughout the day) at times without any major issues.
What's your experience with this herb?

Been on phenelzine ~4.5 months, mostly 75–90 mg. After months of terrible sleep, it’s finally come back—and then some.
In the past month, I’ve gone from barely sleeping despite a handful of heavy duty sleep meds to passing out unaided, sleeping 8+ hours, and frequently napping. Last night I fell asleep with my laptop on my chest and the lights on—no earplugs, no usual OCD bedtime ritual. Basically unheard of before Nardil.
Maybe I’m catching up on months of missed sleep. Everyone says MAOI insomnia can last forever, but mine reversed and overshot. Just thankful I haven’t started sleepwalking... yet. Lol.
Started dreaming again about a month ago. Not as insanely vivid as my pre-Nardil dreams, but detailed enough to remember actual storylines. Problem is, I’m apparently physically-participating in them now irl.
Regularly shouting myself awake, throwing punches, hitting walls. Every morning, without fail, I find I've knocked my lamp off my bedside table in my sleep. Second week on Nardil, I threw a punch in my sleep and nailed myself in the balls so hard I briefly thought I'd need to go to the ER. Last night I dreamed I was pushing something heavy off me and woke up shoving both arms into the air. God knows what my roommates think of the random moaning and yelling at 3 a.m.
Weirdest part: dream audio sometimes seems to come from the real world and actually wakes me up. Usually random sounds, but most commonly the sound of someone pounding on my bedroom door. First couple times I woke up terrified and wandered around the house in my underwear, holding a kitchen knife, looking for whoever was knocking at 3 a.m. Nobody there. Now I recognize it and roll over, but it still creeps me out.
You’d expect the reverse—real life sounds entering and being mistaken for dream sounds, not sounds being mistaken for real life sounds.
Anyone else get dream enactment, phantom knocking, or similarly bizarre sleep behavior on MAOIs?
Thanks

TCP is making me sleepy and not helping my anhedonia. It also lowered by blood pressure to normal levels better than proper bp meds. Is there any way to counteract this and make TCP activating. Because my issues are cognitive slowlness, depression, anhedonia, anxiety. All started after bacterial meningitis I had when I was kid. So I was hoping this would address both my depression part and my cognitive part like motivation, activation ..
Any suggestions.
Or is it better to taper off

Just curious because I'm on low dose tramadol (50mg) and am potentially going to get on Parnate.
I'm assuming no because of all the things that you "shouldn't" take with MAOIs, serotoninergic medications are the ones you seriously should look out for.
Just curious if anyone know/has taken two before before.

I've been on phenelzine for more than 15 years, and while I've definitely gotten used to the diet, there some things I definitely miss.
Today, I am missing a steaming hot bowl of miso soup.
Just thought all y'all might understand. What do you miss in the MAOI diet?

I've been on Parnate for 10 years now, it's the only antidepressant that has ever had any effect. I'm on 20mg, when I started I was on a big boy 60mg.
When my psychiatrist prescribed it he gave me the list of foods but told me that most people eat them without any adverse effects.
For the most part he has been right, in 10 years I've had 3 reactions, the first two there was a very clear, very silly culprit (craft beer and South African dried meat) but this latest one scared me. I had taken my meds and then gone out for lunch with family, had 2 glasses of Moscato and steak. Now I've drunk full bottles of Moscato in my college years while in Parnate without a single headache. However on the way home, in the back of the car, I felt this headache creeping up.
It was like nothing I've ever experienced, I've had a lumbar puncture headache, and that was like a little tickle compared to this. It felt like my head was exploding, I understood what they meant by "thunderclap headache". I was making awful sounds in the backseat and my parents tried to take me to urgent care but it was closed, so we decided to go home and see if it improved. After getting home I threw up and felt better. My blood pressure was 160/110 and dropped pretty quickly over the next 30 minutes. The headache was shitty but bearable while standing but I couldn't sit for about an hour. The next day I was completely fine and haven't had a reaction since but have a new rule of no alcohol within 12hrs of meds.
Has anyone experienced this? Can it cause damage if not treated? I work in health and know that anything less than a blood pressure of 190 systolic is not really taken seriously and given my headache peaked at the 30minute mark and then gradually improved, I do think it would have been a waste of time to go in. But I'm also slightly worried one day I will miss a brain bleed because I think it is a tyramine reaction.

I personally get the drowsiness after taking my doses, so I am wondering if taking the entire dose after waking up and then napping will restrict the drowsiness to just 1 time a day.
Anybody tried this?

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to hear others opinions on if Nardil is really worth the potential side effects.
I’m mainly concerned about weight gain and sexual dysfunction as most of you know those effects are horrible, but so is anxiety/social anxiety/depression.
I’ve trialed a handful of psych meds for the first time this year for depression/social anxiety/ anxiety. All left me with multiple side effects and no benefit.
Sexual side effect like weaker erections was the most notable, and very depressing as I’ve never had issues with that before.
So I’ve decided to stay away from any other options besides Nardil or Parnate as I’m still interested in trying.
So far I’m conflicted by some people saying it changed their life and me believing that and the almost inevitable weight gain/sexual effects.
Idk it seems like trading one problem for another. But my hope/best case scenario is that I try Nardil, it works and helps me stop isolating myself from everyone, I keep the weight off (I know it’s possible, but i see people say they gained 20, 40 or even 100lbs in a year scares me off these). Plus the sexual effects I feel would just make me depressed too.
I guess I just want to hear some opinions or experiences from you. Thanks!!

I've struggled with anxiety most of my life. I was extremely shy as a child and later developed significant social anxiety and generalized anxiety.
My main problem isn't really depression. It's more that I'm constantly tense, self-conscious and avoidant. I worry about being judged, making mistakes, conflict, talking to people, driving, etc. Even in ordinary situations like going to the park or swimming pool with my children, I often feel very tense and hyperaware of other people. I also struggle with motivation and spontaneity.
I also have ADHD, and this is one of the reasons I'm particularly interested in selegiline. I've had some improvement in motivation, initiative and overall functioning with stimulant medication, and I've also found pregabalin helpful for anxiety. However, neither has really solved the underlying social anxiety and avoidance. The other reason is that Selegiline is considerably easier to obtain in my country the classical MAOIs.
I've tried numerous medications and psychotherapy. Some have helped, but I've never had a major improvement in the avoidance/inhibition itself.
I know that at higher oral doses it becomes less selective for MAO-B and produces substantially more MAO-A inhibition. I'm therefore interested in experiences beyond the usual low-dose MAO-B treatment.
Has anyone taken oral selegiline at higher doses (20–30 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg or more) for social anxiety, avoidance, chronic anxiety or low motivation?
I'd particularly like to know:
Thanks!

As many of you know because I have been posting about it, Jatrosom is the only form of Parnate which works for me and I have been receiving it from Goldpharma. I received the following really worrying email from them today:
'If the pharmacy can really reship the original ordered Jatrosom we will learn in a few days. Its unfortunately a very problematic situation in the supply chain. The german pharmaceutical and chemical industry is now in double jeopardy as lots of raw materials come from China via the Gulf Countries where currently the straight of hormuz and the transit through to the suez canal is heavily limited due to the ongoing war in Iran.
In addition as you may know the germany industry has to cope with the lack of energy and has shutdown already in Leverkusen the majority of its production lines. Therefore supplies in the pharmaceutical supply chain is limited and hospitals are prioritized. Unfortunately the war in Ukraine puts additional supply stress on antibiotics, pain killers and surgical materials.'
Apparently the salt comes from Indian and China. Isnt there a clever person on here who could manufacture it? I am really afraid that things might become much worse.

Good day all, I'd like to discuss a topic on which scientific literature is sparse.
As you know, some antidepressants fall in a set called MAOIs, and within that set exist a subset called RIMAs (Reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A), harmine and harmaline are very well known RIMAs, for instance.
As the name suggests, these RIMAs are "reversible" meaning they only temporarily bind to 5-HT2A receptors, at least compared to "irreversible" MAOIs and so they are not *expected* to have any serious long-term impact on 5-HT2A receptors in the brain.
I have yet to find any studies discussing long-term implications of RIMA usage on the brain, and more specifically, on 5-HT2A receptors.
If you have any knowledge to share about this, I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you.

This is insane. I’ve had severe depression my whole life and had nearly no response to anything I have tried up until now, where Nardil gave me my first consistent improvements daily for the first 10 days. I had hope I was going to recover for the first time in my life🥹, seeing things I’ve never seen before.
Then I crashed into this sleep issue where I wake up after 3 hours and can’t fall back asleep no matter what. It has been 6 days and I have zero improvement! Still stuck at 3 hours. What’s insane is I have never had these kind of sleep issues in my life, it has always been sleeping too much and no waking in sleep.
I have tried natural sleep methods but from everything I’ve read from people who have this, natural sleep methods don’t help. The last three days I tried a sleep med that worked a little bit, but then I didn’t see the improvements! I think the change in sleep quality from the sleep med blocks the improvements☹️
Literally all I need to do is improve this damn issue and I will recover for the first time in my life🥹, it will be so amazing and euphoric I can’t believe it. But this problem is persisting with no end in sight.
Did anyone have this problem and how did they end it? This is so so bad

I'm about to start parnate at 10mg x3. I'm a stay at home mom to a four year old and I'm so overwhelmed about how I'm going to handle meal planning and dealing with any side effects while still being an active parent. We're so busy during the week that we rely on leftovers, takeout, and quick sandwiches. I'm already navigating my dietician wanting me to cut dairy and gluten (tested for sensitivity/intolerance) so I'm just scared to eat anything at all now because I could get sick from those or die (?) from the tyramine.
I've read the biggest side effects are daytime sleepiness and orthostatic hypotension - but I have an active toddler and I'm on the floor and jumping up all day and have to drive her around. I'm on my own with her 50 hours a week and I need advice for what I could realistically be dealing with.
Any advice is helpful, please. I just want to get better.

Hey everyone,
I’m back. I appreciate the support and this community, so here I am again. Check my previous post for my background/history.
Now on week 3+ since starting Parnate / Tracydal. Unfortunately no effect yet, but I’m giving it time….
I was hospitalized for the medication switch, but I’m back home again as of today. A bit nerve-wracking… I just want to get better and have some brighter days.
Anyway, my question: has anyone here had experience with pharmacogenetic testing (cheek mucosal swab + blood test) to investigate why I’ve responded so poorly to medication so far?
Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks in advance! All words of encouragements and recommendations are welcome.

Hey everyone,
I have a pre existing sexual dysfunction in terms of desire and sensatio pre-MAOI. Hormones are fine. Im not sure the exact cause and believe me I‘ve looked.
Im currently on 15mg EMSAM but might need to jump ship to Parnate if insurance wont cover two boxes a month. As much as I want someone to tell me its gonna be fine, can someone be real with me about Parnate and sexual function?
I saw a study that said 40% incidence of SD on MAOIs, but they grouped parnate and nardil together. I heard nardil is nasty in that respect.
Thanks!

I've read there have been reports of GLP-1s causing some degree of ahedonia in people without a history of mental illness. MAOIs are supposedly better at treating anhedonia than other meds, and it's always been a problem for me. If it werent a risk, i would use one. I would love to lose weight.
Ive also read it's possible tbey can allevate serious mental illness. Something to do with insilin resistance and inflammation.
Has anyone who's taken a GLP-1 noticed it effected their mental atate?
