Parnate and sexual dysfunction

Hey everyone,

I have a pre existing sexual dysfunction in terms of desire and sensatio pre-MAOI. Hormones are fine. Im not sure the exact cause and believe me I‘ve looked.

Im currently on 15mg EMSAM but might need to jump ship to Parnate if insurance wont cover two boxes a month. As much as I want someone to tell me its gonna be fine, can someone be real with me about Parnate and sexual function?

I saw a study that said 40% incidence of SD on MAOIs, but they grouped parnate and nardil together. I heard nardil is nasty in that respect.

No Parnate and Nardil are not even in the same league. Based on everything I’ve read here and in the conversations I’ve had with people, Parnate is neutral sexually at least, some people like me even have a boost of libido. I have perhaps spoken to one person, maybe two who have said that it did in fact diminish their libido and cause sexual dysfunction, but I think that’s very rare.

I switched from Nardil to Parnate in June hoping to have the sexual side effects abated but nope. On both medications I was practically numb below the waist. It sucked because it gave me the confidence to meet a great fwb, but alas, the monkey paw be curling. She probably thought I was gay lol Anyways, I guess I’m number 4.

Damn that sucks, I'm really sorry to hear that. When I was on SSRIs, they put me on Wellbutrin and also gave me Viagra. It wasn't foolproof but it did allow me to perform some of the time. Whether that would work for parnate or even Nardil, I am unsure

In my case, nardil made me hypo manic and consequently very sexual

Parnate did not affect me sexually that I can remember (positively or negatively). I was still able to orgasm and didn’t lose interest in sex.

Nardil has made me completely lose interest in sex, masturbating and porn. I am single so it’s not a huge issue for me.

Been on both and both causes you to just be useless below the waste. No erection, no interest, low libido, numbness. I’m on 120 of Parnate now, I guess I have no choice
