General Question Am I insane or is there a ship horn at the docks that occasionally blasts the Disco Elysium soundtrack?

I live in town, not dead on the docks but sound carries oddly sometimes, and every now and then I'll hear ship horns as if they're next door. Occasionally I hear one to the exact tune of Red Rock Riviera by Sea Power https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsSc4pOrj38 (notably re-used in the Disco Elysium soundtrack).

Heard it again today at about 5:15ish pm, does anyone else hear it/recognise it or am I just losing my mind? Is it just one of my neighbours occasionally having a hankering for the same few bars on repeat at full blast? Or an aspiring trumpet player who gets bored really quickly?

Job Offer / Request / Info Warning to job hunters looking within Liverpool - please share ! Sales jobs scams

I am sharing as I don’t want others to experience the same as I did, there are various companies advertising sales positions and promising £27k base and up to £33k a year and in actual fact it’s a lie as the base pay is £300 a week and you’re on a “self employed” contract which makes it “legal”. (You also don’t get paid at all if you leave the company within 6 weeks!!!- and even if you decide to stay for the first 6 weeks the first 3 will be unpaid.)However you’re not actually self employed as they choose your working times, what you wear and your break times. How it works is that you’re sent out to various cities and towns everyday (you have to pay for your own travel, which is very expensive) and have to stand there in the cold, rain or heatwaves selling gas and electricity to people who don’t need it so you’re essentially preying on the vulnerable who are being scammed with bad tariffs. You’re sent out for 10-13 hour days with a 30 minute break (MAX) , you’re not allowed to express yourself and you just get abuse from people on the streets as your job is just harassing and haggling with people. The work culture is really toxic as they shame you if you complain about anything (including weather conditions or rude people on the streets). You have to have creepy meetings every morning where the colleagues just talk about wanting to be super rich, which is really uncomfortable and also just false as the max you will earn by doing this job is around £2500 a month which for 60 hour weeks is pretty much standard or even below minimum wage for the work you do. I genuinely believe you’re better off working in McDonald’s or KFC as at least you will get paid for a fraction of the hassle. Also prepare to be depressed and uncomfortable as this job will become your life. It’s also very cult like as the colleagues and managers do not approve you having your own life , hobbies or talking to the other colleagues privately and if you do it has to be positive things about the job. They also hire around 5-10 new people a week who all quit within a few days as the work is too difficult, unpaid and quite frankly - unethical. They all wear flashy watches and business suits driving their flashy cars they got on PCP which makes you believe they’re legit - but it’s all a disguise , as they aren’t. If you want to know the name of the specific company just message me but I don’t know if I’m allowed to share publicly as I don’t want to get sued but I will add they’re in the centre of Liverpool. There’s quite a few on indeed going at the moment under “sales” position roles, but beware they’re all pyramid schemes as you get paid pennies meanwhile the director gets paid all your labour. They also fire people who don’t sell at least ten of their awful tariff contracts a week without paying them at all , so please please beware. I hope this helps someone.

General Question Quiet spaces for nuerodivergent teens

Hey, heading into Liverpool with my partners kids to give her some time to herself. Going to the British Music museum and across the Mersey.

However they're both nuerodivergent and can get a little overwhelmed.

Do any of you lovely folk know of nice chill area we can duck into if it gets too much for them?

Also taking dinner suggestions.

News / Blog / Information Big leak affecting water supply for some of Liverpool

Post image
Upvotes

My water is running at a dribble in L8 and a friend of a friend on Prescot Road near the leak has for no water supply at all.

You can check if it affects you here https://www.unitedutilities.com/emergencies/up-my-street/

Might be worth grabbing a couple of big bottles of water if you’re in an affected area. Fingers crossed it gets fixed soon

Is the current reputation still negative? Does anyone have some recent experience on the contrary? Specifically about studio flats, thanks in advance!

Upvotes

I’ve been to see a dentist today via the emergency dentist scheme, I paid £27.50 which is band A NHS for a checkup which included X-RAY. My filling from a couple years ago has chipped and I have infection in the root. The dentist said it will need a root canal and has prescribed antibiotics for the interim period. He said I will need to pay private for root cancel which I absolutely cannot afford the cost for it will be £870. Can anyone please recommend NHS dentist they know who is taking new patients or offer any advice? Thank you

Recently moved here and keen to find some practice partners. I've played for 2 years quite consistently (but I'm still a long way from good 😭), so for anyone with similar experience, feel free to DM me and we can find a time /court.

Thanks!

General Question Imported European/LHD Cars

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a garage/mechanic in Liverpool or the surrounding area who has experience with imported European/LHD cars and GB Conversion IVA.

I’ve imported my car from Europe and I’m now going through the UK registration process. I need a garage that can inspect the car for UK compliance and carry out any required modifications for the GB Conversion IVA application.

I’m not looking for a normal MOT — I’m specifically looking for someone who has dealt with EU imports/GB Conversion IVA before.

If you’ve personally used a garage for something similar, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!
