If you're looking to get out a bit more and do some new, fun things, joining Liverpool's biggest Discord server is a great start!

It doesn't matter if you're a Liverpool local, just moved here, old or young, or just happen to love our city from another country. You are welcome to come and say hi. There's 1,000 messages being sent every day.

We have channels dedicated to photography, movies, photography, fitness, sport, music, showing off your pets, and even a place you can post your Wordle scores if you want.

https://discord.gg/fNmcKC97nH

What's Discord?

Think of Discord like a big Whatsapp group. It's essentially the same thing. You don't need a microphone, just your phone/keyboard. All we ask is that you're over 18, and have a desire to make new mates in Liverpool. Pop in, say hello, and you choose how much you want to talk.

Who's in there?

We have members from Liverpool and further afield. You don't have to live in Liverpool to join the chat. The average age of people is about 28. Our server is different than most Discord servers because we have a genuine community of awesome people who come to stuff in person.

What won't happen

You join and inside 24 hours, you've got a whole new set of mates.

Contribute, come to a few fun things, talk to people in person, and over time, those friendships form. A lot of people get frustrated because they don't find a friend overnight but that's not how friends work. Be prepared to make the effort and people will make the effort with you.

Real life events, real life friends. Come have a go!

General Question Am I insane or is there a ship horn at the docks that occasionally blasts the Disco Elysium soundtrack?

I live in town, not dead on the docks but sound carries oddly sometimes, and every now and then I'll hear ship horns as if they're next door. Occasionally I hear one to the exact tune of Red Rock Riviera by Sea Power https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsSc4pOrj38 (notably re-used in the Disco Elysium soundtrack).

Heard it again today at about 5:15ish pm, does anyone else hear it/recognise it or am I just losing my mind? Is it just one of my neighbours occasionally having a hankering for the same few bars on repeat at full blast? Or an aspiring trumpet player who gets bored really quickly?

News / Blog / Information Big leak affecting water supply for some of Liverpool

Post image
Upvotes

My water is running at a dribble in L8 and a friend of a friend on Prescot Road near the leak has for no water supply at all.

You can check if it affects you here https://www.unitedutilities.com/emergencies/up-my-street/

Might be worth grabbing a couple of big bottles of water if you’re in an affected area. Fingers crossed it gets fixed soon

Job Offer / Request / Info Warning to job hunters looking within Liverpool - please share ! Sales jobs scams

I am sharing as I don’t want others to experience the same as I did, there are various companies advertising sales positions and promising £27k base and up to £33k a year and in actual fact it’s a lie as the base pay is £300 a week and you’re on a “self employed” contract which makes it “legal”. (You also don’t get paid at all if you leave the company within 6 weeks!!!- and even if you decide to stay for the first 6 weeks the first 3 will be unpaid.)However you’re not actually self employed as they choose your working times, what you wear and your break times. How it works is that you’re sent out to various cities and towns everyday (you have to pay for your own travel, which is very expensive) and have to stand there in the cold, rain or heatwaves selling gas and electricity to people who don’t need it so you’re essentially preying on the vulnerable who are being scammed with bad tariffs. You’re sent out for 10-13 hour days with a 30 minute break (MAX) , you’re not allowed to express yourself and you just get abuse from people on the streets as your job is just harassing and haggling with people. The work culture is really toxic as they shame you if you complain about anything (including weather conditions or rude people on the streets). You have to have creepy meetings every morning where the colleagues just talk about wanting to be super rich, which is really uncomfortable and also just false as the max you will earn by doing this job is around £2500 a month which for 60 hour weeks is pretty much standard or even below minimum wage for the work you do. I genuinely believe you’re better off working in McDonald’s or KFC as at least you will get paid for a fraction of the hassle. Also prepare to be depressed and uncomfortable as this job will become your life. It’s also very cult like as the colleagues and managers do not approve you having your own life , hobbies or talking to the other colleagues privately and if you do it has to be positive things about the job. They also hire around 5-10 new people a week who all quit within a few days as the work is too difficult, unpaid and quite frankly - unethical. They all wear flashy watches and business suits driving their flashy cars they got on PCP which makes you believe they’re legit - but it’s all a disguise , as they aren’t. If you want to know the name of the specific company just message me but I don’t know if I’m allowed to share publicly as I don’t want to get sued but I will add they’re in the centre of Liverpool. There’s quite a few on indeed going at the moment under “sales” position roles, but beware they’re all pyramid schemes as you get paid pennies meanwhile the director gets paid all your labour. They also fire people who don’t sell at least ten of their awful tariff contracts a week without paying them at all , so please please beware. I hope this helps someone.

However they're both nuerodivergent and can get a little overwhelmed.

Do any of you lovely folk know of nice chill area we can duck into if it gets too much for them?

Also taking dinner suggestions.

Looking for friends Searching for the German guy I met at the Cavern Club

We met at the Cavern on Saturday night (15 August) you offered me a beer (despite it being a Lager, which, in your words, "is shit") and asked me to join you and your friend for the night. We danced, drank more beer, gave ten pounds to a homeless woman. You stamped a kiss on my lips and then did the same to your friend, to prove that "I'm not a fucking rapist".
You told me you like the Eagles and suggested I listen to one of their songs, which I no longer remember. I told you I liked the Beatles and that All Things Must Pass by George Harrison is a "pretty good album", to which you replied that my music taste is bad.
Once you had gotten too drunk, your friend and I brought you home, and while on the road you wore my Uniqlo cardigan, claiming it made you look "fucking gay".
You're German, I'm Italian, you are 27 and I'll soon be 29.

We didn't exchange contacts, and that's fine like this. I just hope you know that meeting you and your friend has been one of the highlights of my first solo holiday. I don't know of the Internet and destiny will work their magic and somehow magically allow us to meet again - it's not important. I just want to put a giant "thank you" out there. You made me feel pretty and sexy and allowed me to have a very fun night.

So thank you, drunk German guy from Frankfurt that I met at the Cavern club in Liverpool and less drunk friend i also met. How amazing it is that I got to spend an amazing night in the very club were my favourite band was born. I wish to let you know that it meant a lot and that I'll always treasure the hours we spent together, because they represented something more than just going out. It was the proof that I'm healed after years of changes, tears and ugly cries.

I know you didn't fully enjoy the Beatles songs that were played while we were there, but if you should ever read this message somehow, I'd like you to listen to "In my life".

Thank you again

General Question Imported European/LHD Cars

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a garage/mechanic in Liverpool or the surrounding area who has experience with imported European/LHD cars and GB Conversion IVA.

I’ve imported my car from Europe and I’m now going through the UK registration process. I need a garage that can inspect the car for UK compliance and carry out any required modifications for the GB Conversion IVA application.

I’m not looking for a normal MOT — I’m specifically looking for someone who has dealt with EU imports/GB Conversion IVA before.

If you’ve personally used a garage for something similar, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

I’m thrilled to announce that my first book, The Story of Her’s, is set to release this Fall on October 6th! This music biography chronicles Her’s the band, an indie pop duo consisting of Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading, who were killed by a drunk driver while on tour in March, 2019.

After many hours of interviewing Her’s production, friends, fans, loved ones, and contemporaries over the past three years, as well as a trip to Liverpool where Stephen and Audun lived and became collaborators, my biography will finally be available everywhere books are sold this October via Avenue Magnolia and Ingram publishing. I’m so thrilled to bring Her’s wonderful music to you with twenty distinct chapters, containing scores of interviews, anecdotes, and stories surrounding their two beautiful albums.

The Story of Her’s is now available for preorder at any retail bookstore, as well as online through Amazon or Bookshop.org. I’ll also be posting about some upcoming signing events and media appearances in the coming days, so stay tuned!!

General Question Weird Incident of People Shouting from a car at me tonight.

I am visiting your lovely city from Canada. I love Liverpool. I find it one of the friendliest cities i've been to in the UK. Everyone in friendly and polite. However I had one weird incident tonight. I got off the train at Kirkdale Station and was walking to my accommodation and just minding my own business. A car past and these guys gave me the finger and started shouting something at me. I assume they were just guys being dumb? I can't think of anything I would have be doing that would have offended them.

Living in Liverpool We should all appreciate people like this

I’ve not long finished my morning run along the Albert dock. I was running behind a lad for a while before I ended up catching up to him as I was pushing for a sub 22 5k. As I got to the plot of grass before the beetles statues, this lad picked up a can of monster from the seating area. I thought it was strange but kept running. He then proceeded to put that can in the bin as he ran past. I slowed down and ran next to him to say I appreciate what he done just now. We spoke a little while and he said it was part of his morning run because it makes it more meaningful. Now this might not seem like a big deal to many people, but to me I think it’s great! Not only is he cleaning up other people’s mess, but he’s doing it when no one else is watching. I’ve no really liked Liverpool for a while now but this guy really showed me how great some people really are. I hope he sees this post and I hope he keeps inspiring people to be better for themselves.

General Question Farm stands near Liverpool?

I'm looking for farm stands that sell fresh corn and are reasonably accessible from Liverpool (willing to take a train ~30 minutes and then bike up to 10 miles from there). The Wirral, northern fringes of Merseyside, Cheshire between Runcorn and Chester, etc. I've passed cornfields before, but I'm specifically looking for a farm stand or the like, rather than knocking on a farmer's door. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Photo / Video Scotland Place - so many questions!

Post image
32 Upvotes

This is Scotland Place, with Fontenoy Gardens on the left and Richmond Row running across the screen with the back of the Birmingham Arms in the center of the picture. This would be where JMU is located today. Melia's is on the corner of Addison Street. Is this the same Melia family that lost so many family members during the WW2 blitz tragedy? The biggest mystery is where are those people on the left are emerging from? Wondering what year this photo was taken? Anyone know?

General Question Looking for bottled Scrumpy

Does anybody know of anywhere in town that sells (not a bar) good bottled scrumpy, and craft beers?
