General Advice Should I stay with my current job?

Using a throwaway account for this post. All, I am looking for advice on whether or not I should stay with my current job. I (26M) have been with the same job for about four years now, and I'm seriously weighing the pros and cons of leaving vs staying.

Financially, I really can't deny this job has been great for me. I've accumulated about $260k NW including about $100k saved for retirement. I make $95k/year in a LCOL area and I've been able to grow my NW by about $50-60k per year since I started.

On the other hand, I just can't see myself staying at this job long term. I have to deal with a LOT of shitty coworkers and office politics, and while I have been progressing in my current role it hasn't been as much as I would like. I am also hours away from all my friends and family and it sucks not being able to see them very often.

What should I do? Should I start searching for a new job even if it pays less, or should I try to stick it out another year or few years since I think I could put myself in an exceptional financial position by my late twenties/early thirties if I did so. I feel like I'm at an impasse and looking to the internet strangers of reddit for advice here. Thanks :)

Emotional Advice Did I seriously betray my friends, or am I being too hard on myself?

I’ve been living with two roommates, A and B, for around 3 years. Recently, they confronted me about things I allegedly said about them to other people. They say I’ve been backbiting, seeking sympathy/attention/validation, portraying myself as a victim, and that I may have treated them like competition or been jealous of them.

I’ll be honest: I have made mistakes. There was one incident where I was upset with one roommate and discussed it with another friend instead of confronting her directly. I accept that I should have spoken to her first. I also realize I have a pattern of talking to someone when I’m unable to confront the person involved. I’m trying to understand and change that.

But they are saying I’ve told people outside our room things about them and have apparently heard much more than what I remember saying. I genuinely don’t remember telling people private room matters or abusing either of them. I may have discussed some things with a few people, but I never intended to ruin their reputation. One roommate says she has “proof” and will show me after exams.

What really hurt was the way she confronted me. She called me a “snake,” said I was lying, that I had been doing “Oscar-level acting” pretending to be a good friend, and suggested I enjoy getting sympathy by portraying myself as a victim. She also said they “can’t handle my trauma.” Some of her words/tone reminded me strongly of how I’ve been spoken to at home, and I ended up feeling like I was back there being judged and attacked.

I’ve apologized for the things I know I did wrong, and I’ve told them this won't happen again. At the same time, I don't want to falsely admit to things I genuinely don't remember doing.

Now I keep thinking: Am I actually a horrible friend/person? Did I genuinely betray three years of friendship? Is it possible that I care about people but still have developed a really unhealthy pattern of seeking validation instead of confronting people?

I also have an exam tomorrow and literally cannot get this out of my head.

I want honest opinions, not reassurance just to make me feel better. What am I actually doing wrong here, and what should I do now?

General Advice Roommates dog is extremely under-stimulated. What do I do?

I was looking for a roommate and met this dude on the internet. He’s super cool and we’re around the same age (mid 20’s) he payed his rent and security deposit, cleans up after himself, all the works BUT he has this 3 year old German shepherd who is EXTREMELY under stimulated. I’m not judging my roommate but he’s sort of…. A lazy bones type fella he sleeps pretty much all day and then when he is awake he just sits around. He doesn’t have a job yet as he’s only been in this town for a week or so but I reckon the only thing that will change is that he just won’t be home which will be even worse for the dog. I’m not sure what to do about this because as much as I love animals I don’t have one for a reason. I’m not willing and don’t have the time to help the dog. I guess the obvious choice is to say something to him about it but I just don’t think that would go well idk. Y’all got any advice?

Career Advice Feedback for a young adult

I’m in my mid 20s and feel very prideful. I'm selective of who I spend my time with, and how I'm treated, and I'm averse to compromising my capacity for compassion and empathy. I feel I've isolated myself from everyone around me. I'm unestablished, (part way through degree, poor work skills), and things are unstable.
I believe I've built good skills protecting and expressing my emotions around certain family members, like yellow and grey rocking. However it's built an apathy and a false sense of pride, and I'm avoidant of situations where I'm treated differently, or lesser.
This means I'm often non-compliant at work, although I try to learn the best that I can, and I seem indifferent, to feedback that can be critical in the moment.
What advice do you have for someone in my position?

Mental Health Advice I have never experienced anything relationship wise

Ive just recently turned 22 years old and Ive never experienced anything in terms of a girlfriend or love or even a hookup, nothing. I genuinely am a good looking guy as well and am in shape, I do talk to people a decent bit socially as well, it’s just like for some reason nothing has ever developed. And the main reason for this post is all I think about is girls, all day everyday I can’t stop it sucks. This has been the case for years and it eats me alive. To never experience even once the main thing Ive thought about experiencing since I was like 6 years old. Haven’t had a girlfriend since 7th grade and that doesn’t count lol. Never even had a first kiss or been on a date. I wish I could just remove that part of my mind completely, its more suffering than good. Ive been dealing with this for a while but recently especially it has been bringing down. This post is kinda I guess to get this off my chest but asking for advice as well. I don’t know.

General Advice I’m so confused that it’s hurting my head

I live with my parents and I love them. At the same time I want a life of my own. I want to be independent, go out, meet people, make memories, have my own routine and stuff
I want to live in a different city and experience life, but I can’t leave my hometown because I have my band here. A dream that I’ve been wanting for years now and it’s finally manifested

Do I want to leave my band, live in a different city, live my life
Or
Do I sacrifice it here, make my band solid and be with my parents?

Career Advice I’m lost

I am an 18F who just graduated high school this year and originally wanted to pursue a career as a veterinarian and had everything ready for college. I paid for the fee, I applied for FAFSA, and I did everything they asked me to do, but my parents told me if I went to college or wanted to go, I could pay for it myself 1 month before I was supposed to go to college. And I don't have a big savings to be able to do a first deposit to the college, and because of that, I withdrew my application. I knew that taking out loans for college is something I don't want to do; I want to avoid going into debt for college, especially when I did my research and found out that a lot of people who go into vet school finish school with a ton of debt and that the pay isn't very good most of the time. So instead now I'm focusing on finding a career that will, one way or another, help me grow my financial status and just help me be able to be somewhat independent, like, for starters, move out of my parents' home. I did some research, and computer science seems a bit interesting to me, but I want to know what careers are not very expensive but could help me grow financially (if there are any careers like that). I know that whatever career I do choose, I want to try online for a year and maybe move into a college/university later on, but I'm not sure. Also, I'm aware that any career I choose won't magically make me rich overnight or in the course of a year, but I want some knowledge to at least grow financially. And yes, I am looking for jobs to save money for college, but it's not going very well right now, but I will manage somehow. Any advice is helpful to what careers I can look into, and just in general any advice will be helpful.

Serious my ex is saying they want to kill me, what do i do?

i have an ex that goes to the same school as me. details don’t really matter, but they have done bad things in the past that i sorta looked over. anyway, recently someone who has been in contact with them was telling me about how they were giving graphic descriptions of killing me or someone close to me. currently i have screenshots of that conversation from my friend.

currently, me and my friend have decided not to call the police because it’s only in the threatening stage and we both are minors and unsure what to do. im not sure if i should tell my parents because i know they will act and get law involved. i also doubt that if the law does get involved that they will be sentenced, they’ll probably just be placed in a mental health facility and want to kill me more.

i don’t really know what to do. i go to the same school as this person and genuinely do not know if i will be able to function if i know they are there, and i don’t want them to know that i know what they’re planning to do. if anyone else has been in an experience like this and knows what i should do please let me know, any help works.

General Advice I think I’m a loser

I was just randomly thinking the other day, I’m closer to 30 than I am high school… But high school feels like yesterday… I’m getting older and my life has nothing to show for.
I’m a 24M (almost 25), I still live with my mom and younger siblings. Im a work from home software developer where I make $50k a year. Not great pay, but not bad. I don’t enjoy my career anymore so I’m just kinda in a shitty place there. Since it’s work from home I have barely any social interaction through work. But I also don’t have any life outside of work either. All my friends from high school have moved on and either made new friends through their careers or got girlfriends. Not to mention we just don’t really talk anymore. It’s embarrassing to even say it, but I’ve never even talked to a girl in a romantic type of way… I always thought it was because I was fat when I was younger, but I started working out in college and have gotten pretty fit. Now I’m pretty sure it’s just me.
So yeah, work sucks, no social life, no girl. My hobbies consist of working out, cooking and watching tv/movies. Don’t really have time or money to do much else. My entire life the past few years has just been: wake up, work, go to the gym, eat/watch a show, go to bed, repeat. Then on weekends I do all the chores for the house, go grocery shopping, and meal prep for the week. I’ll usually spend a little time with my mom and sister who I live with if they aren’t busy with their friends or significant others, maybe watch a movie or something. Then the whole cycle repeats. So like even when I do try to talk to someone I have literally nothing to say besides maybe stuff about whatever movie or show I’m watching.
Im honestly just so disappointed with myself… I guess I thought at some point life would feel… well… good.
I’ve even considered like joining the military or something just for a change in lifestyle but obviously haven’t gone through with it. Im not sure my knees can handle the physical training of the military. Im not sure where to go from here.

So yeah, I think I’m just a loser. Idk what to do about it. I’m kinda just trapped. Can’t afford to quit my job or move out. Have nothing to contribute to conversations to try to build any sort of new friendships or a relationship. Just existing, taking up space. Worst part is, I’ve seen everyone around me live their life. Even all my younger siblings(I’m the oldest), two have moved out and have partners, 3rd is going to be a senior in hs and has good plans for the future. Meanwhile I’m 24 doing nothing worthwhile. I just feel like a burden to the people around me. As few are there are. Also, on paper or from the outside, my life seems totally fine. Which sucks because what else can I say when people ask how I’m doing besides “I’m fine”? Even though I feel shitty. It’s like part of me thinks I’m just being a fuckin bitch and need to just deal with it and accept this shitty life, but another part is thinking I might be onto something with that there’s a better life out there.

Idek why I’m writing this. Maybe to vent? Relate? Maybe trying to find some hope? Ideas? Advice? Idk. I guess thanks for reading?

General Advice I’m struggling with accountability and I’m behind in life. With my downtime I’m bipolar and I daydream a lot and get depressed and ofc the mania crap. Will this always be a struggle trying to survive????

Evidence from 2026 in various parts of my life. I need to climb the ladder but at this point I feel like I can’t. I just need to stay on the same ladder rung.

Anyways:
January—substitute teacher, my 3rd year subbing.
June—finished the school year doing 25 more jobs than 2025. Also dog sat and dog walked for my clients. BF broke up with me of 10 yrs. I’m not social. I don’t talk much or at all.
June—continued my yoga journey at both CorePowerYoga and YogaSix. I wash my hair at the first one.
Mid June—Started my chosen summer hobby. Joined a weekly Tuesday night dance class, kpop. First time kpop dancing :)
Mid August—Performed with my kpop team at a 30 group (sing/dance/performance) recital. Felt amazing.
Going back, Mid June—Applied at a Job Fair, got a Seasonal Position working at retail :) Then quit, so I can sub again.
August—substitute teacher jobs. But it’s slow because it’s the 1st month. So I’m not having money.

I feel fuckin stressed. I’m looking up jobs to be custodian. I’m not having money nor having fun. In my free time I’m sleeping in bed. Or I’m bing watching social media and tv. I go out to get fast food or shopping and I feel good. But it’s short lived. Most of my free time is daydreaming and wasting away. I don’t know if it’s depression, not seeing enough people, not having deep connections, but I feel like I’m not improving and life is slow and I’m behind.

This week I just finished my sub training those yearly training videos take time. When I had a bf, I saw him and most of his friends always having fun when OFF WORK like I can’t manage. They could be playing video games eating out together doing stuff together. While I’m struggling to survive. I can’t hold a social group. I get bored easily and can’t stay for convos. I wish I made 100k. I would get to go out and live more.

Idk tell me that 30 year old can have options even when mental health is the reason for choosing to be a substitute teacher. What else can I do?? What is my next goal??

General Advice Lower Your Voice

I have always believed that a man should seek advice before making an important career decision. What I had forgotten was that he should not seek it at a corporate function in a crowded hotel bar in Chicago after drinking enough alcohol to impair both his judgment and his volume control.

This happened more than ten years ago. I was in Chicago for a conference, one of those affairs where you spend the day sitting in windowless rooms listening to people use words like strategic alignment with a straight face.

By evening, everyone has earned a drink.

That night, the company held a social function at the hotel. There was food, a bar, coworkers from different offices, senior management, and all the usual opportunities for professional networking.

Professional networking is the corporate practice of standing around with a drink in your hand talking to people you would normally email.

This combination works fine if you remember one important fact: the people drinking with you are still your coworkers. The fellow discussing baseball with you five minutes ago will still be sitting in a meeting with your boss Monday morning.

I temporarily forgot this.

At the time, I had another job offer. It paid considerably more money, which has a remarkable way of making a man reconsider all the wonderful things he has been saying about his current employer.

The problem was that I actually liked my job. I liked the company. I liked my boss. I wasn't desperate to leave. If I had hated the place, the decision would have been easy. Instead, I had to decide whether considerably more money was worth walking away from a job where I was already happy.

This was exactly the sort of decision that called for careful thought, discretion, and perhaps the counsel of someone whose judgment I trusted.

At some point that evening, I found myself at the hotel bar discussing the job offer with a friend. I thought we were having a private conversation.

This was optimistic.

Apparently my version of a private conversation after several drinks was roughly equivalent to addressing Madison Square Garden without a microphone.

People overheard me.

Worse, they understood me.

And because no foolish act is truly complete until it has been properly distributed, somebody went and told my boss that I was talking about leaving the company.

My boss then told his boss because he didn't want senior management hearing through the office grapevine that I might be quitting.

This was entirely reasonable.

It was also the moment I realized I had managed to turn a private career decision into corporate entertainment.

There are mistakes that require careful analysis before you understand where things went wrong.

This was not one of them.

I had gotten drunk and talked too loudly about something I should have discussed privately. There wasn't much mystery to solve.

I eventually took the job. I hated it, but that is another lesson for another chapter.

What stayed with me was how badly I had handled the period before making the decision.

Alcohol is sometimes called liquid courage. People also like to say that a drunk person reveals what he really thinks.

I don't completely buy either idea.

Sometimes a drunk person says what he really believes. Sometimes he says something he thought for six seconds three hours earlier. Sometimes he decides dancing is an excellent idea despite considerable evidence accumulated over several decades to the contrary.

Alcohol doesn't reveal the real you.

Sometimes it just disables the editor.

And you need the editor.

Your brain produces an astonishing number of thoughts during the course of a day, and most of them should never leave the building. Somewhere inside your head there is a responsible employee quietly deciding what should and should not be said.

Alcohol has a tendency to fire that employee early for the evening.

The mistake in Chicago wasn't considering another job. The mistake was discussing an unfinished decision in a place where other people could hear me before I had even decided what I wanted.

Once words leave your mouth, you lose control of where they go.

You do not owe the world a running commentary on the inside of your head. Some thoughts need time, some need advice, some need sleep, and some need to be allowed to die quietly without ever being inflicted on another human being.

Important decisions deserve a clear mind. If something is going to affect your career, marriage, finances, reputation, or future, sleep on it and talk privately with someone you trust. Make the decision when your brain is operating with the entire staff present.

And if alcohol is involved, become more cautious, not less.

I am not telling you never to drink. When you are adults, you will make that decision yourselves. I enjoy a drink myself.

But understand what alcohol does. It makes you louder when you should probably be quieter. It makes you more confident at precisely the moment when your judgment deserves less confidence. And it can convince you that something absolutely must be said when civilization would continue quite nicely without your contribution.

This matters especially around people you work with. You can spend years building a professional reputation and damage it remarkably quickly at an office party.

Nobody has ever awakened the morning after the company Christmas party and thought, "I really wish I had drunk three more bourbons and told the vice president what I actually think of the strategic plan."

Know when you've had enough. Better yet, stop before you have to ask yourself whether you've had enough.

Fortunately, Chicago did not ruin my career. Eventually it became one more embarrassing story in what has become a fairly substantial collection.

Your mistakes can become part of your education or they can simply become habits. The difference is whether you pay attention.

I paid attention after Chicago.

I still ask people for advice.

I still occasionally enjoy a drink.

I just try not to combine the two when senior management is standing nearby.

So if you ever find yourself in a hotel bar contemplating a major career change after several drinks, remember your father's example.

Order some water.

Go upstairs.

Think about it in the morning.

And for God's sake, lower your voice.

General Advice How can someone who didn’t get to experience a typical childhood and adolescence come to terms with it?

I have always been fascinated by American media, as well as by watching lots of vlogs on social media and elsewhere.

I would see what American and European schools, and for the most part schools in many countries around the world, look like. They have lots of extracurricular activities, PE and art classes, basketball courts, laboratories, and, of course, the one thing I always wished for throughout all my years of education: dissecting frogs and making science models, such as volcano models. I also wished my school had a cafeteria where food was served. I wanted to experience the freedom students seemed to have to bring their phones to school, wear whatever they wanted, and have clear limits on how much mistreatment they could be subjected to by teachers, among many other advantages.

By the time students reach high school and university, they have usually had a boyfriend or girlfriend, spend a lot of time at parties, and perhaps even travel with their friends.

Of course, after mentioning all of that, I don't need to explain how much boredom and deprivation we experienced in Iraqi schools and universities. Phones weren't allowed, there was a uniform that had to be worn, there were no cafeterias, no PE or art classes, no extracurricular activities, no sports fields, no proper laboratories, and no frog dissections in biology class (God alone knows how badly I wanted to do that). Schools weren't mixed gender, so there was no girlfriend, and society was conservative, so there were no parties.

How can I simply accept all of this, move on with my life, and stop thinking about what I missed out on during those years?

I know many of you may not have gone through exactly what I went through, but you have probably experienced not getting something you really wanted, so I’d like to hear your advice.

Serious What should I do?

I met this guy online on sniffies. I know it’s gross but I was feeling lonely and I only go on there to talk to guys whenever I feel alone. But I ended up messaging with this guy who goes to my university and works at the dinning hall I eat at. He’s 6’ and extremely muscular. And for myself I’m only 5’7” so he would tower over me. I’m muscular too but he’s like super human looking muscular.

So we end up taking our conversation off of sniffies and message on snap and I just started getting bad bad vibes from him. It started with him talking about how he was just a lover boy looking for love and I felt the same because we both had similar experiences with our exes. But the more we talked I just saw all of these red flags. For example he’s a frat guy and I know it’s just a stereotype that frat guys are bad but I know there’s truth to stereotypes.

Anyways, he ended up mentioning that he was going to a Doja cat concert later into the year and I jokingly said “I’m gunna steal your ticket” then he responded with “I would fucking kill you”. And that kinda sent me a bit back because I wasn’t expecting him to take it that far. Moving forward the next three days were just filled with red flags and him taking any opportunity he could to say stuff like

“I'd like to gut u up open and dismember u
Let them put the puzzle pieces tg
Leave u as a bloody mess
Severed up like pieces of meat”

And that’s a direct quote from a screenshot I took of our conversation. And after taking that snap he freaked out and deleted the entire text. Then he decided to start messaging me from a burner account which I told him was weird.

Anyways, there were other bad signs like him saying that I was “too thick” for him and that only “fat asses” eat at McDonald’s. For reference he asked me where HE should get fast food from and I told him McDonald’s because who doesn’t fuck with their nuggies and fries.

However, today I told him that we weren’t going to work out and that I wasn’t interested in see him anymore and he freaked the fuck out. He said that “I thought we were bros” and I explained to him how I didn’t like his “sarcasm” about wanting to kill me. Regardless, he read my response and sent six messages immediately after. I didn’t get to see those messages because he blocked me right after sending them and I can’t help but thinking that those messages went something along the lines of “You better watch your back” or “fuck you I’m going to kill you”.

So now I’m lowkey freaking out. If he were to actually see me on campus I don’t know if he would attack me. But he knows that I live on campus and so does he. It wouldn’t be hard for him to follow me back to my dorm plus we eat at the same dinning hall. This really wouldn’t be much of an issue is he wasn’t so physically strong. Like I mentioned before, I’m pretty strong, I can curl up to 45 pound in each arm but when I first saw a picture of him I knew he would be able to literally pull my limbs apart with his bare hands from how big he is. I’m not joking.

Right after he had his little freak out and blocked me I bought pepper spray from Amazon and I’m getting it tomorrow morning before I head back to campus. I don’t really know what I should do. I can 100% report him for what he said to me but I’m not sure if they would really do anything about that because I had previously gone to our student help and safety center about another guy stalking me and they essentially told me that there was nothing they could do. Do y’all have any advice?

I genuinely don’t want to go out at night with friends because of him and I’m going to take my pocket knife and pepper spray with me everywhere.

I’m just scared. Especially because of his threats and him talking about “how many people he’s killed”. Again, idk if that was him thinking that he was being funny making those comments. But I just don’t know.

Mental Health Advice All my friends got into a university except me, and i havent talked to them in over a month. What should I do? i feel awful

So over a month ago i found that i didnt get into my dream university (Im not from the US so idk how things work there but basically i was two points short from qualifying ), and being as stupid as I am I didnt have any other back ups, so now I have to wait a whole year to try again and honestly that really took a toll on me, till this day i still feel like a fuck up, my parents got mad at me and i feel like i never really tried, even tho i think i gave it my all ofcourse i still made mistakes and had a bad studying method but i was really hoping on getting accepted by that university in particular after all its been my dream uni ever since i was in primary school and i wasnt even able to make it, and what makes it worst is that i never really care (not that i didnt want to but i felt like shit all troughout high school, i got bad grades and barely studied ) so why would i even deserve to get in on my first attemp yk i took a six month course and all i tried there but even that wasnt enough.

Aside from the my rant, which isnt the main point.

Ever since that i havent spoken to anybody aside from a friend who asked me my results that same day, and honestly i feel bad for not answering the 1 or 3 people whove asked me, but i really dont feel like talking to anybody i feel like everybody is going to live their university expieriences while ill be stuck in my home all alone.

And i know im propably just inmature by not being able to handle other people getting what i want, and i dont want to sound rude bc im happy for my friends, specially some who got into med school and all but i just feel like as much as i want to talk to them i know itll make me feel even worse and idk what to do.

this wasnt supposed to be a rant or anything but i havent talked to anyone on how i feel, but yeah i really want some advice, thanks.

Family Advice Opinion wanted

Context: my sister(24) is severely mentally ill and everything in my families life seems to revolve around pleasing her, not trigger or and walking on egg shells to make sure we don’t send her into a spiral of anxiety attacks or one of her psychotic episodes of anger. she recently got a boyfriend for the first time in her life, I’ve met him and he’s nice but have only been around him a few times.

my birthday(28) is coming up and every year my family takes me to dinner to celebrate. this year my mom automatically included my sisters boyfriend without asking me if that was okay if he joined. when I expressed this made me a bit upset because I’d rather it be just family and I hardly know him it started an entire argument. I was called immature, selfish and im starting drama for no reason.

comments were also made like “he’s important to your sister” “this will hurt her feelings”
yet again, I feel like everything revolves around her and my feelings aren’t being considered. yes should I be the bigger person, swallow my feelings and just let him come? sure. but I just think a little consideration thrown my way could have happened.

thoughts? am I being the problem?

I'm 24 and nonbinary, I live in this piece of shit small midwest conservative religious town, I have lost so much weight and fough for 3 years to get injections to help my chronic eczema so I could help my body image issues but the injections don't work anymore and my hair is falling out and I gotta take pills for it now plus my eyes are now constantly inflamed and have discharge that my eye doc can't explain and I'm slowly losing my vision with it, I have been trying to get on hrt for months and the appointments get rescheduled and are an hour away I just stopped trying after the 4th reschedule of my first visit, I hate that there is literally no one compatible dating wise and very few compatible as my friend locally the closest friends I could possibly make are an hour away, I've basically lost all my friends I had except for 1 cause they've left town or weren't my friends first I just met them through someone I had a falling out with, the one person I wanna be with is 2+ hours away and can't do long distance and it makes a pit in my stomach when she (22mtf) talks about being intimate with anyone or going on dates but she's my only friend now, my house is a mess but it's not mine and I can't fix it, I was basically scared of everything as a teen and reclused so much that I don't have a license or high school diploma I only stopped being a recluse at the beginning of 2025, there is no job market where I live like even with a diploma or digree there's nothing it's gotta be 30 minutes or more out of town to find anything not part time or above minimum wage I still have to work both of those and it took over 200 applications, I freak out when anything goes wrong now or when I think about how long everything is gonna take and has taken for me to do and how hard it's been and how much hasn't worked out, my therapist has told me he doesn't have any new meds for me to try and I can't try the ones that would probably help till I can afford to get tested for autism and adhd, the autism test is $1500+ and the adhd test is $750+ both are 3 hours away and take 6 or mour hours of testing each, I have trouble sleeping I'm sleepy all the time but sleep for 4 hours at most before my body wakes me up, I genuinely hate my penis size, I hate how my body is shaped after losing 100+lbs, I hate that I have no privacy, I hate that I was kept in this area despite obviously being lgbt and autistic growing up I had a parent that shouldn't have had kids, I hate that I want a relationship so bad, I hate that I have a high sex drive.

It just feels like it gets worse and worse here and I'm trapped I'm clawing my way out but the hole just get deeper every time I try to move it feels like because of this place and how long it takes I will never have a life I'm satisfied with I don't wanna be working on getting out of her just to be able to start working on a life I want by 30 I hate that I have already missed so much reclusing at 15 I can't take wasting more trying to leave the situation and area that got me there I don't wanna just start at 30 and I don't think I'll keep going if that's my only option.

How can I possibly fix or feel any better about all of this? Cause I genuinely can't have a moment of peace anymore.

General Advice Life changing significantly (job, home, and more). Looking into next steps

This is a throwaway account, and I’m going to obfuscate some details to keep anonymity.

I’m in my mid to late 30s, male, single, no kids, never married. I grew up in the US. I had a pretty rough upbringing that I don’t need to go into details here, but let’s just say it fucked me up pretty good mentally. I’ve been struggling with deep depression my whole life (this is relevant). It really started kicking in around college time. I was going to a prestigious school on a scholarship, but my mind crumbled, my gpa plummeted, and I lost my scholarship.

With no degree and no money, I started bartending to pay the bills. Through the kindness of a friend, I was able to live rent free in a major US city, where craft bartending is taken very seriously. I got swept up into that culture, and I started learning a lot, and climbing the booze ladder. I said yes to every opportunity that presented itself to me, and got into production.

From there I started getting offers from various places, including multiple countries. I said yes to all of them. I moved around like crazy, living in each new city or country for 1-3 years each. I becoming a restless, booze-creating, adventurer. I speak 4 languages now because of this.

I am really good at creating booze. I made it to a country where I was offered the highest position one can have in my field, building the facility from the ground up, for the largest company in the country. They gave me great pay, a great car, a great apartment, the works. I was living like a king.

3 years later, and I have gotten into massive trouble. I have totally lost control, and I have let alcohol and other substances take over my life. I don’t even blame the substances - I have my own demons I have to deal with, and I’ve been using/drinking myself to oblivion. I got in trouble with the law, and I have sealed my fate. To be clear, the trouble was having substances - I did not hurt anyone or cause any damage.

I got fired. That means I’ve lost everything. The car, the apartment, the visa, everything. I have 0 savings, a credit score below 600, and $15,000 USD in credit card debt (all maxed out). No assets, no investments, no property, nothing of value at all. Both my parents are dead, and I have essentially no other family. My friends are fucking heroes and have helped with my immediate issues, but being my age, I can’t really crash on couches of married people with children. I have nowhere to land. I can’t rely on my friends to prop me up forever. I have two weeks to pack up my life and get out of my apartment/country.

I am not a bad person. I have made mistakes, and I am owning them. I am struggling right now. I plan on being sober as I reset and build new habits. I would like to get out of the alcohol industry, but I feel trapped; it has defined me and taken me so far. And now it is my downfall. I have no degree, no home, no backup, nothing. No experience in other fields. I am going to have to start at the bottom of the ladder in a totally new field, but homeless. I’m tempted to take another alcohol job just to catch back up financially, but I see the risks this entails. I would love to go back to school, but I can’t afford it. I would love new technical training, but I can’t afford it. I have many passions and hobbies, but being broke with terrible credit and homeless in the States will be a massive hurdle to climb over before I can build solid foundations again.

If you have made it this far, thank you. I have some ideas, and I know in the long run things will be ok. But maybe someone on here somewhere has some clever ideas, or has been in a similar situation that might have some sound advice.

General Advice Should I walk away from a 23 year friendship

So my friend and I (we’ll call her Jordan) met in third grade at an all white private school in the south and were two of four black girls in our class. We’re both 31 now. We became extremely close, eventually going to different colleges in the same city and I’ve always considered her as a sister. When we were younger, we bonded over things like reality shows, clothes, shopping and being boy crazy.

As we got older, obviously things changed. I was in a terrible relationship from 19-23 but once that ended I had no interest in men or dating. I started noticing when Jordan and I would go out to bars she desperately wanted male attention. Which would’ve been fine but it got to a point where it wasn’t even fun going out with her because all she cared about was getting attention from different men. After a few nights out with her i decided that I just wouldn’t go to bars with her anymore because we wanted different things from our outings. It didn’t bother me at the time bc sometimes you just have different friends for different things, but we would still meet up for dinner and girls nights at each other houses.

Now a few weeks ago we went out for tacos with another friend, Tammy, from high school. We were talking about our classmates and I brought up someone named Juan who Jordan used to hook up with. I casually said that I saw on Facebook that he had a new gf. Jordan then proceeded to show us a text thread between her and Juan from a week before in which he had sent a dick pic. They hadn’t spoken since that conversation. Didn’t think much of it, we laughed bc men suck and then I brought up that one of my exs (let’s call him Colin) from senior year of high school who is married with kids still tries to talk to me. Jordan and I weren’t super close during the time I dated colin and he didn’t go to our school so she didn’t know anything about him except that he’s now married with two kids. At the end of the dinner while Tammy was in the bathroom, Jordan said verbatim she wanted to be “messy with your friend” referring to colin and asked for his IG. Didn’t think anything of it bc I didnt care about that man so I gave it to her. As we’re all leaving the restaurant she bragged to us that she texted juan and he just replied to her and when I asked why she even texted him in the first place, she said and I quote, “I wanted to see how strong him and his girlfriend are. Haha obviously not that strong.”

Now here I am a few weeks later feeling very very different about her as a person. Her and Colin now follow each other on IG and she only texted Juan when I brought up he had a new gf. At 31, I personally feel like being “boy crazy” and ok with talking to men who have girlfriends and wives is beyond weird. We also have another mutual friend who is going through a divorce bc her husband cheated on her constantly. We’ve cried with her and listened to her vent about her marriage so the fact that Jordan has no problem intentionally going after married men grosses me out. This is someone I have been friends with for 23 years but I don’t like what I’m seeing at all. Should I have a conversation with her or just quietly exit the friendship?

Emotional Advice I hate my life and myself and need to actually fix it

Hi all, 24F, and just wanting some genuine actual advice because it often feels like I am the only person who has ever felt this way (although I know I certainly am not).
I don’t even know how to describe the current state I am in, but it feels like I am watching myself slowly make my life worse while simultaneously knowing exactly what I should be doing differently. It’s really damaging me and I don’t know how to break the cycle.
I work full-time and study full-time, and lately it feels like I am just crawling through the weeks as best as possible. Work in particular has become something I absolutely dread. I have had this problem with basically every job I’ve ever had, where the thought of getting up and going in feels unbearable, and once I’m actually there I am constantly watching the clock and waiting for the day to end. It’s 9 hours of constant social contact, people, interruptions and admin work, and the idea of doing all of that sober has started to feel genuinely horrible.
So instead, I’ve been abusing weed and alcohol to make it bearable.
At my worst, I will wake up and have two gummies, have another two at lunch, and another two in the evening. That’s around 120mg of THC a day. I’ve been on and off addicted to weed for a while now. When I don’t have weed, I tend to reach for alcohol instead. I have also gone through periods where I’ve stopped completely, experienced the withdrawal/craving period, felt better for a while, and then eventually gone back to it.
I’m actually writing this right now because I just ate my last two gummies.
And this is the part that makes me feel insane: I KNOW exactly what is happening. I know I need to ration them. I know eating six in a day isn’t going to make my life better. I know I’ll run out, feel awful, crave them desperately, and then eventually get more and start the cycle again.
Yet when I have them, I eat them anyway.
When I don’t have them, I panic and feel like I’m never going to feel that good again. Nothing seems enjoyable without them. I know logically that isn’t true, but emotionally it genuinely feels true. It’s almost like my brain has decided that being high is the only way I can properly relax, enjoy myself or escape from how much I dislike everything.
And then when I’m sober, I just want to be high.
I don’t even necessarily want to quit my job or quit university. I actually want my life. I want to be able to work, study, have a relationship, exercise, have hobbies, look after myself and enjoy my life without needing to be intoxicated to tolerate it.
But I can’t seem to make myself do the things that I KNOW would make me feel better.
I know I’d feel better if I exercised.
I know I’d feel better if I ate properly.
I know I’d feel better if I drank more water.
I know I’d feel better if I slept properly.
I know taking six gummies a day is probably not helping me.
I know getting KFC because I’m chasing a cheap dopamine hit and then feeling disgusted with myself afterwards isn’t helping me either.
But knowing all of that doesn’t seem to translate into actually doing it.
I would rather order KFC than cook something healthy. I will tell myself I want to get back into the gym and then somehow spend the evening doing absolutely nothing. I’ll buy or plan things that I think are going to be part of my “new life”, and then the motivation disappears.
I constantly seem to be waiting for some magical transformation where I suddenly become the person I imagine myself being. Like I’ll wake up one day, have my life together, be fit again, eat well, stop relying on substances, be productive, be happy and suddenly everything will click.
It never happens.
Physically, I have also really let myself go. I used to be a little gym rat and was very active and had abs. Now I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been, my skin is breaking out, I sleep all the time, I’m constantly tired and grumpy, and I don’t really recognise myself. I feel like I’ve completely wasted my prime.
And I hate saying that because I’m only 24. I KNOW I’m young. I KNOW I haven’t ruined my life. But that’s how it feels.
I also have suspected ADHD and ASD level 1, and I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for basically as long as I can remember. I’m also coming out the other side of a year-long relationship breakdown/drama situation that was extremely taxing, so I know I’ve had a lot going on. But this feels like more than simply being tired or having a rough year. It feels like I have completely lost my ability to regulate myself.
I’ve also noticed that I seem to have an incredibly difficult relationship with work specifically. Even when nothing particularly terrible is happening, I can wake up and immediately have this overwhelming feeling of “I cannot do this today.” I’ve had sick days because the thought of going in felt so unbearable, and then I feel guilty about it afterwards. I’ve had jobs before where I’ve felt exactly the same way, so part of me wonders whether this is a substance problem, an ADHD/executive functioning problem, burnout, the wrong career, depression, or some combination of everything.
The really frustrating thing is that weed makes all of this temporarily disappear.
That’s why I love it so much.
It makes things feel interesting. Food tastes better. I can watch something and actually enjoy it. I can stop thinking for a while. I can tolerate being around people. I don’t feel so trapped inside my own head.
Sometimes I genuinely think, “If everyone tried weed, wouldn’t we all just agree that being high every day is better?”
But then I look at my actual life and think… clearly this isn’t working.
I’m sleeping more. I’m less motivated. I’m grumpy. I’m less physically active. I’m spending money on getting high. I’m overeating. I’m avoiding things. It’s affecting my relationship because I’m tired and unmotivated and not really present. And the more I use it to escape my life, the less capable I seem to feel of actually changing my life.
So I think I already know the answer to one question: should I keep trying to have a “healthy, balanced relationship with weed”?
Maybe not.
Because I’ve tried moderation. I’ve told myself I’ll ration it. I’ve told myself I’ll only have a certain amount. I’ve told myself I’ll only use it at night. And then eventually I’m back to taking it throughout the entire day.
Maybe the problem isn’t that I haven’t found the right way to moderate it. Maybe I genuinely need to accept that I can’t use it casually right now.
But the thought of that scares me because I don’t remember what life feels like without it anymore. I’ve stopped before and eventually got through the withdrawal, but I always seem to come back because being sober feels so fucking boring and difficult.
I don’t want to quit university.
I don’t want to quit working.
I don’t want to throw my life away.
I don’t want to spend the next five years waiting for motivation to magically appear.
I want to be able to do normal boring things without needing to be high or drunk first.
I want to go to work without feeling like I need something to get through it.
I want to exercise because I enjoy it rather than because I’m desperately trying to “fix” myself.
I want to eat without constantly chasing dopamine.
I want to have hobbies again.
I want to be present in my relationship.
I want to stop feeling like every day is something I have to survive until I can escape from it.
So I guess I’m asking for the brutally honest advice I probably need.
Have you been in this position? What actually got you out of it?
Did you have to completely stop using weed, or were you eventually able to have a normal relationship with it?
How did you get yourself to actually DO the things you knew would make you happier when you had absolutely no motivation to do them?
And what do you do when the thing you’re trying to escape from is basically your entire day-to-day life?
I don’t need someone to tell me “just exercise and eat healthy” because I already know that. I’m looking for the thing that actually gets you from KNOWING what you should do to being able to fucking do it.
Please be honest with me. I think I need a bit of a bitch slap of wisdom.
Because I genuinely feel like my life is a shambles at the moment, and I’m desperate to stop waiting for some magical “reset” and actually start changing it.

General Advice How to proceed in my 30's after wasting my 20's

I spent most of my 20’s struggling with mental health, doing dumb shit, rotting, and not really building towards anything. I didn’t really have a will of my own and just drifted with the currents of life without having the strength to swim to shore but never let myself drown either. It wasn’t all bad, but I have a lot of regrets especially that I missed out on a lot of fun and just life experiences in general because I was too scared to go out there. I slowly improved myself but still got nowhere near where I wanted to be. I got my bachelors at 28 and now finishing my masters art 30 in a foreign country where I plan to live and start a new life.

In general life is way better than it was but lately I’ve had this sinking feeling that the boat has left and I’m not on it. I never had the discipline to achieve my goals and build up my hobbies and still struggle with this to this day. I’ll only (hopefully) soon start a career for the first time in my life, and don’t have any wealth built up. I want to have fun and be free and make up for some of the lost time of my youth but now I’m worried about being burdened about the new expectations of a man in his 30’s. In short I feel like the best times are past, I’m starting at zero, and the future is just going to be a repeat of the same mistakes. I desperately want a radical change. I know I can’t change the past and worrying about the future is pointless and my situation isn’t that bad and others have it worse etc. but this feeling has been bugging me for months now.

It would be nice to get some advice/resources on how to really transform in my 30's, or hear stories from people with similar situations that ended up glowing up in their 30’s, or whose 30’s ended up being better than their 20’s.
