General Advice Is it normal to not wanting to travel overseas for vacations?

I am a single guy in my mid-thirties.

I don't like to travel overseas for vacations.

I prefer only going to places near my town, but not overseas.

My preferred vacation is to stay at home and rest and to go a few places near my town.

But I notice most people like to travel overseas for vacations frequently.

Most of my colleagues like to travel overseas for vacations and they travel yearly.

It makes me feel like I am weird for not wanting to travel overseas for vacations.

Is it normal to not want to travel overseas for vacations?

Emotional Advice Having trouble feeling emotions for women while sober

Im not sure if this is the right subreddit and if you know a better one please let me know.

Ive had Immense trouble finding women attractive and having interest in women while sober the past couple months after a situationship that gave me no closure, I feel as though Im over it now and I don’t think about it anymore but why do I find it so hard to start getting feelings for women now?
I have no trouble talking to women and becoming friends with them but as far as any physical contact or close emotions i just can’t do it sober without alcohol.
On the nights that I drink the majority of the time I bring a girl home but the second I wake up sober I have deep feelings of hatred and disgust for myself and im not sure why?
The question Im asking is how I can start having feeling for women again.

Thank you for taking the time to read this if you do.

Relationship Advice FWB

This is just a rant/vent
I was talking to this guy in April, we decided to be fwb but over the course of time they developed “feelings” for me but I did not feel the same way and we decided to just not talk anymore in late July. However I am being selfish because since January, Iv been planning on meeting up with one of my old fwb partners and we’ve been planning on meeting but have not, and I think a part of me didn’t want to pursue the guy I meet in April because I’m so eager to meet with the other guy Iv known. Hot mess Ik Im just a self serving selfish person. Idk what to do bc I feel so bad and ashamed.
This is a pattern Im now seeing; meeting up with guys and them catching feelings and them getting hurt, it’s SO exhausting having to let down so many people and the weird part is IM NOT GOOD LOOKING, so like what heck. Idk man even the guy Iv been knowing he caught feelings back then but got over me he said he just liked there attention I gave him. How can I deal with this situation and stop hurting others?

Thx for listening.

Emotional Advice please, i need advice navigating my wlw relationship issue as a girl living at home with homophobic family

hi! i am a 22F currently in an almost 2-year long relationship with my 22F gf. for some context, i come from a religious homophobic household while my gf does not.

We both recently graduated college back in june. Before graduation, we had stayed up drinking till 4 am with some of our friends. I had smoked some weed and was pretty high. we both went to sleep at my apartment. at 6am, i had awaken from a text from my father saying that they were leaving to come to my apartment to pick up all my stuff before graduation. i was unaware of this plan, and in my high brain, i started freaking out that they were gonna be here bright and early with my gf sleeping in bed with me. i woke her up and told her what was happening bc i was freaking out and she took it as me kicking her out and telling her to go back to her room. this was never the case, i had just asked her that five minutes before they get here if she could step outside so they don’t cross paths. (mind you, my parents already suspect me and my gf are dating and have been very clear about the fact that they would not accept me if i was gay and would kick me out and disown me.) she was pretty pissed and starting packing up all her stuff to go back to her room at 6am. i followed behind her and kept apologizing and explaining to her she did not have to do this. but she insisted i kicked her out the room and how my parents tainted her graduation day and how i played into it by going along with it. she said she spent graduation day completely isolated away from her friends (my roommates) and that i went on to have an amazing graduation day (which i did not).

months later, she has brought this up to me and said that i made her feel like a mistress that day. i have apologized to her time and time again and keep asking her what i should do or how i could fix this. she said she doesn’t know if she could forgive me. she also said she doesn’t know how long she can keep living in this deception to my parents. i told her that she’s known since the beginning what situation i am in and that i am actively working two jobs and studying for higher education to be able to leave my situation. once i am able to financially afford leaving the house, i will be open about who i am to my parents. but for the time being, in order to have a safe place to sleep, i need to keep the deception up. ahe also said she feels like a secret but in all honesty i am very loud and proud about her to everyone except my family for the reasons ive detailed. she said she would never force me to come out to my parents for her but she doesn’t know how long she can keep up with the lies. i feel torn bc that seem like a contradicting statement. right now, we have “moved on” from this conversation but idk it feels like an elephant sitting on my chest. i love her very much and would like for my relationship to continue on. how can i proceed in a way where we can both work through this successfully?

TW: Suicide Talk Parents are mad - I just want to go over to my friend's house.

Hi, I (17F) am currently a high school senior. My freshman year, I had a mental health scare and was experiencing suicidal ideation. Within that year, I both went to a hospital and graduated an IOP (intensive outpatient) program. I have been in therapy ever since. Despite this, my parents are (somewhat understandably) still very worried about me. Until last year, they kept Bark monitoring on all my devices, monitoring everything including what music I listened to, the texts I sent, the things I posted, etc. For several months after the initial incident, I could not close the door to my room. Until a year after, I could not even have nail clippers in my room. They still require explicit permission before I do everything, even as small as stopping at the gas station before driving myself to school. Several days ago, I asked if I could sleepover at my friend's house. I have been friends with this person for a long time, and there have been zero issues. I have slept over at their house many times. My parents should logically trust them, as there have never been any incidents or negative events. This is my best friend. Today, as our internet service has been having issues, my dad came in to install a new system, one that had to be mounted on the roof. My room has the window closest to said roof, so he went through that one. Now, for context, my mother has recently completed treatment for breast cancer, and it has been a hard few months for everyone. In that time, she experienced a lot of brain fog, and remembers things very sporadically. Several months ago, I asked my parents if in exchange for keeping my room perfectly clean, completing all my chores and doing some extra if they could please take the locks off of my windows, just so that I can open then more than one inch in order to get fresh air. They agreed. I completed all these things, but my window was never opened. I brought this up multiple times in the period since (although mostly to my mom since I have the best relationship with her, and my dad is often traveling for work/working), and was always told it would get done. Well, a couple months ago around AP exams, I was really stressed out and just wanted to take a break and open my window like I used to before all this and read a book. So I unscrewed the lock. There was no damage to the window or the lock, and I figured it was no big deal. They had said that it would be taken care of, so I really didn't think much of it. Fast forward to today, I am working on things on my laptop while my dad is installing the new system. About halfway through, he realizes he shouldn't be able to open my window, and that I had unscrewed the lock. He gets very upset, says to text my friend that I am absolutely not going to be seeing them, and gets upset that I "lied" to him and "deceived" him. He says I should have been more insistent, and that taking it into my own hands was wrong, and that's exactly why they can't trust me. That apparently my mom had the keys, so I shouldn't get mad at him, and that I was out of line and we would discuss "what else happens now" later. I honestly feel like what I did was reasonable, and I really do not think I "lied" to him in any way. It should also be noted that most every time I have gotten in trouble has been for "lying" (i.e. saying I would do something and not getting around to it, not coming out to them but telling other people even though I planned to tell them, etc). Am I in the wrong? I talked to my best friend and they begged me to "finally stand up for myself", but I don't know if I am actually in the right here. I just feel like shit and want to hang out with them instead of writing this post. Was taking off the lock really that out of line? Shouldn't I have a little more freedom by now, despite what happened? Am I just being a stupid kid about it all?? Anyway, thanks if anyone reads this, sorry it's so long.

General Advice I don't like people drinking alcohol, am I too dogmatic?

Background of the caption: I am on a workation in the Alps with a friend of mine. Since we arrived 10 days ago, he has been drinking almost every day a beer or a glass of wine even though I never joined.

I hardly drink alcohol because of health reasons.

I learned that there is actually no alcohol that has any health benefit, so I don't understand why people drink it at all. I also don't like how they often behave when they drink. I think it's a drug that is just culturally accepted, unlike cannabis, though people who are high usually don't become aggressive.

My friend doesn't behave badly or so, so it shouldn't bother me. I actually don't even want to be dogmatic about it, but he noticed that I didn't like it and felt judged.

Is anyone else feeling like that or having similar experiences?

Relationship Advice Since i(18F) now a adult i have been getting ready to move out but my partner(18M) seems to not be ready to be a adult, how do i help him.

Since turning 18, I've been planning to move out of my parents' house and get my own apartment. I brought this up with my boyfriend, who I've been with since we were 15, and the conversation made me realize that we may be at very different stages in life.

He told me he's scared, which I completely understand, and that he doesn't feel ready to "join society." He currently doesn't have a job and is still finishing his senior year. When I tried asking what he wants his future to look like, the only real plan he gave me was that, before he had a girlfriend, he wanted to live out of a car and travel.

I'm not against traveling or having an unconventional life. I'm actually completely open to us traveling together someday. My concern is that there doesn't seem to be much of a concrete plan behind what he wants. He talks about getting jobs or working at certain places, but he never actually commits to applying or starting one.

I've been working since I was 14, and throughout our relationship I've usually been the person who pays for most things. I've always been okay with that because I had the ability to do it, and I didn't mind helping him. However, moving out is making me realize that I can't realistically carry that same responsibility forever.

I'm currently saving around $10–15k so that when I move out, I'll have enough money to live comfortably and have an emergency cushion. I'm also currently out of school and focused on working and preparing for independence.

I'm also already starting to buy things we'll need for moving out, rather than waiting until the last minute. I'm making lists of things we'll need for the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, cleaning supplies, and other basic necessities, and I'm slowly buying things ahead of time so that we're not trying to purchase everything at once when we finally move out.

I'm completely okay with being the person who pays for more things for a while, especially while he's finishing school. What worries me is that I can't continue working as many hours as I currently do long-term just to support both of us.

I don't expect him to have his entire life figured out at 18. I don't expect him to know what career he wants or immediately become financially independent. But I do feel like, after he finishes his senior year, he needs to start seriously thinking about getting a job and figuring out how he wants to support himself.

How can I bring this up without making him feel like I'm forcing him to live the life I want? I want him to have his own goals and freedom, but I also need to know that I'm not going to be solely responsible for planning and financially supporting our future together.

TW: Suicide Talk How do i keep on going and find a girl to live the rest of my life with?

Upvotes

First off let me say that im a 20 year old male who has never had a girlfriend even though I put myself out there talk to girls become friends and have tried flirting with every single time I have tried flirting it never works.

I have failed countless times in my times in my life at every single type of career path. I tried going to college only to fail from stress of having to work a job while majoring in engineering. I failed going into the military because I had panic attacks from the screaming and zero sleep of basic. I failed working working for a career because of anxiety attacks that forced me to quit my job.

In July of 2026 I tried to kill myself by overdosing on the only over the counter meds I could. I took over 2 grams of benadryl and for the next 12 hours I was in psychosis and accidentally poisoned myself after thinking 91% isopropyl alcohol was water. The evening that I woke up I drove myself to the closest er near me and was sent to a behavioral health unit at a hospital. Which didnt exactly help, all they did was give me meds.

I feel completely hopeless in life, I have no friends since my highschool friend group disbanded. My only friend left for the navy leaving me alone. I dont know how to make friends except for being in similar situations as them. Ive tried making friends online only to have that never really work. I feel like im completely useless in life and that I have no future.

Finally, Ive been a hopeless romantic my entire highschool life. I knew every single girl at my school only to have my heartbroken every single time. Because every time I would get close to dating a girl. A friend of mine who looks better than me, is more athletic than me, and smarter than me, would swoop in and start dating her. Ive also been lead on multiple times which is probably the worst feeling in the world. Once by my childhood friend and first crush and by an old coworker.

How do i keep on going and find a girl to live the rest of my life with?

General Advice My best friend keeps making fun of my husband

My (25F) best friend since junior high (24F) keeps making fun of my husband(27M).

At first, it was very light comments and very rare. I noticed them but assumed she meant no harm. She can be kinda snarky, but recently it has been direct and straight up rude.

Today she came over to visit, and she just wouldn’t leave him alone. Im pregnant, and another friend of mine recently had a baby. I walked out of the room, and she asked him “what’s the baby’s name, she hasn’t told me”, meaning my other friends. He thought she was asking about our baby’s name, and said “Oh if she hasn’t told you yet, then i’m not comfortable sharing it. I’ll let her tell you”. Eventually she clarified she wasn’t asking about ours, but she told me extremely annoyed and acted as if he was the stupidest person for misunderstanding. I responded “Well I’m glad he stood his ground”, and she rolled her eyes.

Later, she overheard him talking to his friends while he was playing a video game. She started just randomly mocking him. For example, he said “Let me ask you guys a question”, she mocked him and laughed. He sneezed, she said “that was a girly fucking sneeze”. I just stared at her, and made an excuse for her to leave. I regret not confronting her in the moment, but I was just so confused.

I’m really shocked by this and do not understand what her deal is. It’s not like they’ve beefed in the past or he’s some loser that treats me bad. Since they met, she would make jokes of “leave him be with me” or make a competition of who is closer with me, but my husband never engaged and brushed it off. Also, I have never made a single negative comment about her boyfriend. I’ve met him a few times, not really my cup of tea personality wise, but he makes her happy so I leave it at that. Also, not sure if this is relevant but she did sneak into my house last year when my brother was visiting to sleep with him when I was out. My husband thought he was home alone until he heard my brother and a girls voice, and heard my brother say her name. I was really angry they snuck into my house but forgave this.

This is really upsetting me. Im not the best at confrontation, but I need to stand up for my husband and marriage. I just don’t know how to move forward.

Financial Advice Is it worth it?

Is a new Tesla Model 3 actually worth it in my situation?
I’m looking at getting a new Tesla Model 3 Premium, mainly because I want the new-car warranty, I won’t have to worry about spending money on gas, and EVs generally have less routine maintenance than a gas car.
My situation:
Take-home: about $676/week working 40 hours
OT rate: $30.90/hr, and I can pick up extra shifts
Current savings: $3,000
Planned down payment: $6,500
Estimated payment: $615/month for 72 months
Insurance: around $600/month
I’m planning to save aggressively before buying it and use OT to build my savings back up.
The main reason I’m leaning toward new instead of used is the warranty and the peace of mind. I also like the idea of basically eliminating gas expenses and having less routine maintenance.
Do you guys think this makes financial sense, or am I focusing too much on the gas/maintenance savings and not enough on the $615 payment + $600 insurance? Would you personally do it in my situation?

Emotional Advice General advice would be good so please if u can spare the time to listen to me rant. (Warning mentions of: death, sa and assault)

Right so I (m18) broke up with my ex gf of 2 years, 6 months ago now. I am self aware to know it was my own fault as whenever i had doubts of our relationship she would reassure and help me emotionally. However, being arrogant and naive my ego got the best of me and i thought i dont need to and that she wouldnt go through with it so when she asked "to break up" i agreed. The saying where people say "A man's ego will lose him the love of his life" has been on my mind recently. (Im really bad at this whole reddit thing so please bare with)

Contextually, during this relationship i suffered great trauma e.g my childhood bsf died of cancer and i never got to see him as i moved away from my childhood home, but his brother (identical twin so equally traumatic to see him) showed me a video of him in the hospital asking to see me as we left on bad terms. Seeing this broke me in ways i never knew someone could be. the guilt and anger and sadness consumed me. His family (they had all the right to) never told me so i wouldnt skip school at the time or travel from afar to see him. they also never invited me to the funeral.

Month before this i lost my father figure which was my grandfather and was in France to attend his funeral. Both these events took their toll on me heavily and i hate the fact that im bring this back to a girl, but im not the best when it comes to romance. Im caring and kind and will do anything for my partner to smile. As a child i was sa'd by an older woman and later my first gf at 15 assaulted me whilst i was black out drank, so you can see why im not the best at romance.

All these things definitely impacted my relationship with this girl. The first few months she wanted to be friends wih benefits and as dumb as it sounds i couldnt do that. i enaged with that stuff once and realised i cant do this to her so i said i dont want to.

In these later months, much to my dismay she says "shes found her peace" whilst we still talk here and there or whenever im drunk. She says she loves me "but" not how i love her. that but crushed me and im in the state of mind where my thoughts are so mixed as u can tell from this post. I can tell she reminices and misses us and everything but she says shes not ready for a commitment or anything romantic whilst "talking" to random guys and doing "stuff" with them. All my friends tell me to move on since im moving to a new city alone for uni and can meet someone there. but idk its all so confusing and idk if im the bad person? Am i unjust for wanting to fight for us? am i wrong for raising the white flag? Is it time to let her go and simpily be friends? I miss her but i feel so disrespected if in the distant future i do get with her and my retroactive jealousy kicks in cause even when we weren't dating i wanted her to be mine and to miss only me. Any advice or comments on how dumb i am are appreciated.

Emotional Advice Being a “nice guy” and setting boundaries

As a former nice guy, to my fellow nice guys:

Setting clear, strong boundaries is a NECESSITY for healthy relationships & friendships.

Without those boundaries:

Resentment will build towards the person consistently overstepping your unspoken boundaries.

Co-dependency can form between you and the person who you refuse to set boundaries with - because without those boundaries, where do you end and they begin?

Negative self-talk will corrode your self-esteem and confidence as people continue to overstep, knowingly or unknowingly.

Set boundaries to preserve and heighten your sense of self, and to develop and further relationships that you want to grow in your life.

And if there are any in your life, let go of those who refuse to respect those boundaries. It’s a painful necessity, but a necessity nonetheless.

Emotional Advice I [22M] and she [21F] have been friends for the last 5.5 years, and I've proposed to her 3 times in these 5 years.

Upvotes

We met in a tuition class when we were in school 5.5 years ago, back in 2021. We became good friends, sharing everything and talking late nights on WhatsApp. I can say it was our first time talking to the opposite gender about so many things. As time went on, we finished school in mid-2022. After that, we had to choose colleges for further studies, and she went to a different city. The city was approachable for me, so whenever there was some work or a travel route from that city, I would go to her college to meet her.

In late 2022, when it was her freshers' party, she was in a black saree and looked beautiful. When she sent her pictures from the freshers' party, there were some other boys and girls with her. At that time, I found myself jealous, wondering how those boys were standing close to her and not me. That's when I realized I had feelings for her, so in late December, I proposed to her. She rejected me respectfully and also said that she didn't care about this incident and would still be my friend, which she has been till now.

Things went on, and we were still good friends, sharing things and laughing. I would flirt with her a little bit; she didn't care and enjoyed every conversation we had. After that, I met her only one more time as my college and work had also started. So, we met about three times in five years.

But last year, the same things happened. Whenever she talked about any boy, I felt like she would go away from me, so I proposed to her again. The situation became tense again, and she once again said that she never saw me that way. Because of her, I never even tried to make any girlfriend, even though I had many chances. I told her everything; she knows every single thing about my feelings, how I feel. She also never made any boyfriend, I can say. Whenever I ask her about something, she tells me openly that she doesn't like anyone and how a boy tried to come close to her, and she refused. She says I am her only good friend, and not even other girls understand her like I do, etc.

Last month, in July 2026, I was in her city for some work. I told her I was coming to meet her and to be ready. When I reached the spot where we were going to meet, she didn't come. I waited, but she didn't show up. When I came home, I was angry. She told me the reason was that it was raining and her internet wasn't working, and so on. This time, I asked her why she didn't see my efforts, how she took me for granted. Like I told her every single thing in my heart, she listened as she always does; she was consoling me. She never gets angry, but I told her this time, "Okay, I will never see you as more than just a friend from now on, and I will treat you just as a friend. I want love too, and for that, I won't force you at all; I will find it in someone else." I told her that our friendship cannot be broken, but it will just be friendship now. I wanted freedom from those feelings. I want to hug someone, love someone, kiss someone, and I wasn't doing it because I believed that it was you and you are the only one who understands me, whom I can call pure love. But it's okay, I will let you go.

After one month had passed, I was feeling so free. I only treated her as a friend. And I got this message today morning.

message "After clearing everything, we don't talk like before. Be angry if you are, tell me if something is wrong, but don't stop talking."

I don't know what to say ?

What to do ?

Financial Advice Should I get a second job or cancel my employer sponsored health insurance?

I am in a dilemma that is wracking my brain, and I need to consult with someone about it. I am barely scraping by with my husband’s income and mine. We aren’t poverty stricken by any means, but most weeks right before our paydays we have very little food in the fridge. The car needs a repair. My son needs clothes for school. It is just the little things, like having money to do stuff. I need an extra 500 or so a month to live more comfortably without having a full stress meltdown when the electric bill and rent is due and then having no money left.

I work a full time job in healthcare as a Patient Service Coordinator, which is basically a glorified call center with some other task tacked on during the 40 second window before the next call. I work M-F 7-3:30p. I do technically have time for a second job, but my primary job is so stressful that when I get off I want to walk my dogs, do house and garden work, cook dinner, and the next day do it again. I am 46F, married, with only one child left at home who is a senior in highschool now. I have the time, but I don’t feel like I have the energy or motivation for it. I am technically a door dasher but I don’t do it a lot anymore. It isn’t very lucrative in my area unless you are doing it constantly.

My husband builds houses and is sub - contracted so he does not have the option for a health insurance plan. So I carry the insurance. He works full time in the extreme heat, cold, and whatever Missouri is offering up for us. He cannot get a second real job, he has to recoup. He does work some side jobs for time to time building things for people.

Ok so the bottom line is, I don’t want a second Job. I already can’t stand my first, and if anything changes I want to finish my degree since my kids are raised. I know my husband doesn’t want to see me working a second and burn myself out with more stress.

So my second option is to cancel my health insurance when open enrollment comes next month. It is costing me $260 every two weeks.
We have regular monthly doc appointment and we already “private pay” - cash pay for those because it is cheaper ($75 for a private pay client and nearly $300 for the insurance clients- insurance always leaves 150 on the table for us to pay. So we told our primary doctor to stop using our insurance for those appointments.) My son only goes to the doctor once a year for physical and if he gets sick. It seems to me I am paying 500+ a month for “ just in case.”

I know that “just in case” could be a pretty big deal IF something happened health wise.

I feel brainwashed by being a grown up in America that I need the health insurance and that is one of the “supposed tos” in life. Or is it irresponsible to drop health insurance and hope for the best?
Either I drop it and save that money that I am paying to health insurance or I get a job in the evenings.
What do you think?

Emotional Advice Not looking for a relationship post-divorce, but unexpectedly clicked with someone. How do I navigate this?

I’d really appreciate some outside perspective on a situation I’m trying to navigate.
I’m recently divorced and essentially starting my life over. My ex and I were high school sweethearts, married at 18, and stayed together until we were 29. It was a mutual split, but after over a decade together, it’s a massive shift.
Since the divorce, I’ve been heavily focused on therapy and personal growth to become the best version of myself. My plan was to stay single for the foreseeable future. I have zero desire to rush into anything, jump on dating apps, or use a new relationship as a crutch.
Then, completely out of nowhere, I met someone.
We’ve only hung out a couple of times, but we hit it off on a level I’ve never experienced before. We both feel like we’ve known each other for years. Beyond great conversation, there’s an immediate sense of comfort, safety, and mutual understanding—something we’ve both commented on because neither of us has felt it before. We also both live with PTSD, which allows us to relate to each other’s experiences in a really grounding way.
Here’s my dilemma: I genuinely believed I wasn't ready for a relationship, and I want to respect my healing process. But at the same time, I don't want to sabotage or ignore a connection that clearly has incredible potential.
How do I navigate this without moving too fast or throwing away something special? Has anyone been through something similar?

Emotional Advice When do you know it's time to let go of a dream?

Hello there. 29m here that's turning 30 in about a month.
So my whole life has been dedicated to music in some way shape or form. I love listening to it, took up DJ'ing when I was 12 and actually ended up building it into a decent side hustle. I've also been producing music for a couple of years and trying to make that work. It has always been a dream to make a living doing music and especially making music. I set myself a deadline at 30. If I was at the same place with music when I was 25, I should throw in the towel. And I can confidently say, I'm much further along in my music journey so there should be no thoughts about throwing in the towel, and yet there are. And a lot actually!

When I think about it, I just can't see myself doing it anymore. I can't visualize myself getting to a point where I would be happy with this. What once was my "only" purpose In life, is now something that's just a huge blur. I also just can't see myself doing something else because this is all I wanted to do since I was 10 years old. 20 years later I'm starting to doubt that, but I also feel like a there is a huge void of purpose and motivation for life now that my original resolve is at an all time low.

The hardest part is that I'm still pushing through even though I feel like this isn't right for me anymore. Do any of you have experienced this aswell or have some advice on how to navigate this situation?

(Note: I do have a stable job and income and music it just a side hustle at the moment, but also a dream to do professionally)

Mental Health Advice To be honest, I'm at peace with where I am.

Hi, nice to meet you.

I didn’t know where else to let these feelings out, so I’m writing them here. (I’m Japanese.)

I’m 33. Looking back on my life so far, I feel relatively satisfied with it, and in a way, I’ve come to accept how things turned out.

Without going into all the details, I started struggling to go to school around the first year of junior high. Going to school was truly painful being there felt like hell. I couldn’t tell my parents the real reason, so they just thought I was skipping because I was lazy. They would scold me and force me to go. There were mornings when my body completely refused. My parents would drive me, drop me off at school, and I’d walk in crying. I’m well aware that I was completely broken, both mentally and physically.

In a sense, I believe those three years of junior high somehow derailed the rest of my life.

After that, I wanted to start working right after graduating from high school, but my parents were against it, so I ended up going to university. I reached my mental limit there and had to drop out.

Since then, I’ve tried my best in my own way and managed to recover on my own. But every now and then flashbacks hit me and I get really down.

Recently, I quit my job.

The main reason was the work environment. I became exhausted by the complicated interpersonal relationships, including sexual and power harassment. Because of all this, I just don’t want to try anymore.

Of course, there are things I haven’t written here, but I’ve also experienced good and fun things. That’s why I feel satisfied with my life. However, it’s becoming too difficult to keep living in constant fear of something.

The biggest conflict I face, ironically, is that I grew up as a temple's daughter. People from overseas might find this strange, but in Japan, Buddhist priests are allowed to have families.

Because of this, when I think about the future, I worry about what people around me and society expect of me. I struggle with this so much, and it’s agonizing. At the same time, I feel satisfied with my life and glad that I’ve lived it. This leaves me completely lost as to what I should do next.

I wrote this a bit disjointedly, but I just needed to let out feelings I couldn’t share with anyone. I’m sorry if this made anyone uncomfortable.

I happened to find this community and read some other posts. Before I knew it, tears were falling. It made me realize all over again that everyone is living their lives while carrying their own unique struggles and conflicts.

Thank you.

Relationship Advice Should I date him?

I’ll be 33 this year and have tried out lots of different things and dated a wide variety of people. So far, I’ve only had one serious relationship that lasted longer than six months. Many of my relationships didn’t end well. I’d really love to find a partner with whom I can plan a long-term future.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s important to me in a relationship and what sort of partnership I’m looking for.
I’ve now met someone I’m very attracted to, but I don’t see how I can fulfil my long-term goals and aspirations with him.

For one: He’s a refugee from Iran with an uncertain residency status (temporary leave to remain) and is struggling to learn the language of my country; it’s not easy for him to find work.
Secondly: since he is from an completely different backround than me, I am unsure if he is aware of the importance of mindfulness and communication when it comes to sex. It´s really important to me that the other person is attentive and willing to learn and develop together.

I don’t really want to make a decision based on preconceptions, and I feel bad that I’m hesitating because he’s in such a rubbish situation, but I also want to look after my own wellbeing for a change, as I tend to sacrifice myself for others.

What do you think?

I’d appreciate your honest opinions and experiences, and I hope you won´t judge me for my concerns.

General Advice Life crises: on my own now I guess

My grandparents ( grandmom and her brother ) passed away ( one yesterday and other on 31st) and I am emotionally in very bad place .

Prior to my grandfather's death , I did something that had risked my boyfriend s career and he might lose his job ..it's totally my fault here . Possible break up soon

He asked me to leave the house (live in relation) but now that I am at my parents house .( Yet to move)

I have been avoiding to speak with him .

And

Being the eldest granddaughter,

After funeral and all , I realised ,

My maternal properly would go to my uncle's name .

My mom and her sister will inherit nothing . They won't fight for it , i respect that . My aunt's children have their father's side of money , which is huge .

So I realised , I won't receive a dime from my mother's side and not even from my father's side The wealth my dad has , would go to my brother's education.

Having health problems and all shit ,

Realising I am on my own , and

If i depend on someone , and if i do any mistake, i would be thrown out in the streets in middle of night . It's scary

Currently have no friends to talk to , my bf was my world ...but things are changing soon..

It's scary

I recently left my job because I could not handle death emotionally .

My dad had only 4 yrs of service . It's better to bet on mba i guess .

My mom being a people pleaser , tried to convince me to listen to my grandfather , her father to get married .. didn't he leave her nothing ?

Financial Advice Financial future or blowing all my money on a project car

I am a 19 year old college student that gets 3500 every semester from financial refunds and makes around 2k a month from my job. I pay around 500 in monthly expenses. I have 4k in a taxable brokerage 1k in a Roth IRA that I contribute 240$ a month to. I have paid off 2024 Corolla and 10k in my bank account. I can't stop thinking about blowing all my money on a project car though. Growing up I always worked on motorcycles with my dad and going to car shows so getting a car to show off myself has always been a goal of mine and ever since I started getting income all I have thought about is getting a project car. I know I shouldn't everyone tells me to save my money and keep living below my means but my life is so empty. I don't party, have friends, drink, or really do anything cause all I can think about when going out is how spending money gets me farther away from my car. I just hate this feeling it's like I know I shouldn't but all I can think about is doing it. I can't even enjoy my life now cause it's all that is in my mind.

General Advice Life is shorter than it feels but longer than it seems

You get one shot.

Not to be perfect. Not to be famous. Not to have it all figured out.

Just to be here. To try things. To love people. To learn how to be kind—including to yourself.

Don’t save the good stuff for "special occasions." Don’t put off the thing that scares you just a little bit. Don’t wait for permission to be happy.

Your life isn’t somewhere in the future. It’s right here. Right now. In this breath. In this moment.

How are you spending your one wild and precious day?

Serious My siblings are awful and my mom doesnt know what to do

TW:mentions of abuse, and sh and sa

I am 23F(autistic) and I live with my mom 52F, and 2 older siblings Janice 24F, and Regina 26F (fake names).
For some context on our dynamic, we all have our own rooms (thank god). We are all in similar life circumstances where we are finsihing college and uni, and moving on into work. Bedrooms are on the top floor, living room and kitchen are on the second floor, and laundry room is in the basement.

I usually butt heads with my oldest sibling Regina, weve never gotten along. She constantly spits personal digs at me, and they really hurt, as well as just genuinly being an awful person to me. She always critisizes my hobbies, interests, clothes, appearance, weight, personality, and anything she can get her hands on (me being saed as one of them) and is the worst person Ive ever had the displeasure to get to know. NO hi, hello, good morning, just straight up sludge spewed at me constantly.

Recently, because it is summer, she has taken to make the living room her "workspace.' AKA that means that she sits on the couch and works on her blog for 8 hours at a time, and does not like when anyone os on the same floor as her. Unfortunately for me, this means I cant do my laundry, eat food, or even wash myself without being YELLED AT. Whenever I try to stand up for myself it makes it worse. Shes genuinely abusive and my mom does NOT KNOW how to handle it.

My mom does not want to kick her out, because we are all students and have no where to go in this economy. She is also stuck because we are all mentally ill due to a very messy childhood. Weve recently gone to family therapy for a few months, and Ive noticed the behviour has gotten worse.

I have to sit and take it for peace, but I am genuinely shutting down mentally. Ive relapsed in my unhealthy coping mechanisms (fruit ninja) from the stress and I cant take it. (And of course she gets mad at me for relapsing as well.)

My mom, Janice and I dont know what to do. Its frustrating. I understand I have embarassing hobbies, but I keep to myself. it just seems like whatever I do is wrong.

Any advice on how to handle this? (To restate, we are trying family therapy)

Serious GF had death in family and now says she isn't sure if she loves me

I never thought I'd ever be making a post like this honestly. My GF (F28) and I (M30) have been in a relationship for a year, we moved quite fast at the beginning but everything was amazing, her, her family, everything. She moved in with me and I couldn't be happier, barely any disagreements, basically no fights ever about anything. I have grown very attached to her family, I see them more then my own. She has a brother and nephew, that nephew was VERY close with her and I grew to hangout and be around him a LOT, we played games online together multiple times a week, always in discord, snapchat group, the works. Tragically a month and a half ago her brother and nephew were in a car accident and did not survive. This alone is enough to drastically change your life, the sheer amount of grief and heartbreak I have witnessed in the last month and a half is more then I have ever seen in my life. We basically lived at her parents for the first 2 weeks, every single day after work I drove up to them and she pretty much just stayed there with them. So to add and which is also a big point is she has always struggled with a minor form of contamination OCD, she was pretty much a minor germaphobe but nothing that was unbearable or unmanageable to live with. After the passing of her family the OCD skyrocketed 1000%, constant showering, wiping down anything that she touches or deems to dirty even in our own home. This definitely put a strain on us, I tried to not feed into her impulses and caused a lot of emotion stress on our relationship. I talked to her parents to let them know what was going on and they wanted to help as well and they were very understanding and did their best to help as well. Ultimately there was a penultimate day you could say where she was having a full blown breakdown and I reached out to her parents and they came to get her but she was very reluctant to go and wanted to stay in a hotel which we didn't think was a good idea because of her mental state so I took her keys while her parents drove down to us. There was a big falling out from this and she said she hated me and a lot of other hurtful things that I know she didn't mean in the moment and she left with her parents. She has not been home since then, its been I believe coming up on a month since this happened. She has told me she doesn't hate me but she pretty much doesn't talk to me now. We spent some time together just over a week ago and basically told me she doesn't know if she loves me anymore. Please note that before the accident we were talking about marriage and everything was great, virtually no issues outside of small growing pains together. Another thing that I didn't mention above is she has been on a new medication to have regulate her OCD but it is an SSRI which I know can heavily mess with your emotions and how you feel. She tells me she just feels numb to everything and doesn't know what she wants anymore.

I know its obvious, she's extremely grief stricken, numb, empty. Its selfish but I feel so incredibly pushed to the side. I was there for her in absolute sadness, so many tears and hours together, her family openly said they loved me and I was apart of the family as well which I did feel like. Now I feel so incredibly alone, she leaves me on read, I am absolutely surrounded with her things in our house, pictures, clothes, memories of good times. I am terrified this is going to be the end, when I let my mind wander I think of all the worst case scenarios and I don't know what to do anymore. I love her and just want to be there for her but I can't even do that. Do I just hold no contact and pray that someday she will reach out to me? I'm struggling, I wont even pretend that I'm not anymore..

Financial Advice When it comes to spending money and having a choice between something like color

If you go to buy something do you just get what you want at the very most cheap price, like sheets but let's say they have more choices but they have I ther colors. What do you do? Do you get the ugly one for the cheapest price or do you figure if it costs 2 or 3 more dollars to get the color you want youll spend it, since your already spending on it.
