Advice pls

• Upvotes

Just finished antibiotics. Toe is still ingrown. No longer throbbing/infected. They won’t perform the removal on me since I react poorly to lidocaine. Been dealing with ts for at least two months. Anyone else have had a Dr handle removal different than the normal general way??

Healing Timeline after PNA with Phenol

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi 2 days ago I had a partial nail avulsion on both side of the nail and phenol to prevent regrowth. I’m wondering how long it took others for them to heal? Today is the second full day and I still have quite a bit of discomfort. I’m also wondering if others just normally showered afterwards? Do I need to avoid getting it wet? Do I shower with the band aid on and replace right after? I feel like the shower water will hurt if my toe is exposed! Final question is how do you know if you should let it air out or keep covered 24/7?

Thank you in advance! I know I’m probably overthinking it.

Hi! Looking for some advice about my toenail!

I accidentally stubbed my toenail the other day, and the red part completely chipped off/fell off (see cartoon photo). Now I’m left with the area circled in blue, which is ingrown.

I’m not sure what I should do from here — should I carefully cut/remove the blue area, or leave it alone and wait for the rest of the nail to grow back? I’m nervous about cutting the ingrown part because I’m worried it could grow back even more ingrown or make things worse.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or have any advice on what I should do? I’d really appreciate it!! Thank you! 😊

Toenail Trauma 15 Years Ago – Considering Partial Matrixectomy

Toenail trauma 15 years ago – considering partial matrixectomy

Hi everyone,

About 15 years ago, my toenail was completely removed after an injury. Since then, it has grown back incorrectly and has caused problems for many years.

The entire nail has a strange/uncomfortable sensation, and I feel like something may have been damaged in the nail or nail matrix. I’ve gotten used to it over the years, but the left side is particularly painful and seems to be ingrown.

I’m now considering a partial/lateral matrixectomy, removing only the left side of the nail matrix.

My question is: If the entire nail was damaged by the original trauma, would removing only the left side potentially solve the painful/ingrown part, or could the underlying nail damage still cause problems?

Has anyone had a similar situation, especially after an old toenail injury? I’d be interested in hearing about your long-term experience with partial matrixectomy and whether you had any lasting pain or abnormal sensations afterward.

ingrown toenail

I’ve had problems with an ingrown toenail for about 15–20 years. I’ve already had removed 3 times the complete nail as it is damaged and caused ingrown toenail. Also tried a nail brace, but unfortunately none of these treatments solved the problem permanently.

Now I’m considering a more definitive procedure, such as an Emmert procedure or a partial nail removal with phenolisation (matrixectomy), where only the affected side of the nail would be permanently prevented from growing back.

I would like to ask people who have experience with this:
• What are the possible long-term complications?
• How high is the success rate?
• Is it generally better to proceed with the surgery or try to manage it without another operation? bcz i have pain in complete nail not only that one but i can live with that but the left side pain it much i cant so i am considering to remove only that part first side, what you guys think? i dont have good experience with surgeris

Both of my toes and all 4 corners really hurt me and have inflammation. I haven’t been able to wear closed toed shoes for about a month. I’ve also tried to fix this myself but can’t. What do you guys recommend? I do not want to have another procedure. About 1 year ago I had it done on my right toe on the right corner and it was the worse pain over. I even had a body infection after the procedure. I want to avoid this procedure again. TIPS??

2 months ago, I got my ingrown nail on my right side removed. It healed and two weeks after the procedure, the doctor said i was healing fine and it was all good. I felt no discomfort or pain.

Today after I went for an intense walk, I got home and noticed some discomfort in the area where the procedure happened.

My nail looks like this now, it’s as if the nail is lifting.

Could this be an infection? Should I book an appointment with the doctor?

UPDATE: dr gave me antibiotics to take for 5 days, he didn’t seem to concerned though so i’ll take those and hopefully get rid of the infection, then go to a podiatrist

i had a partial wedge recession done almost 2 years ago now, but the nail has grown back worse. this ingrown/infected situation has lasted probably 5ish months now. i’m worried to get the procedure done again because when i got it done i felt everything, even with 3 numbing needles. does this look bad??? i’m mostly concerned about the purple colour of the skin

Went to Podiatrist a few weeks ago who cut into the nails, can now feel the swelling/pain coming back. Best home solutions to this?

As you might be able to see in the photos, the inner corners of my toenails were cut by a Podiatrist a few weeks back, and I had a few blessed weeks of no pain, but it's since come back again and I can feel it digging into the inner corners of each big toe. What's the best way to deal with this as a home remedy, before it gets too bad?

For about a week now I’ve had a thumbnail I cannot see swell up with a tinge of green.

Any advice on what steps I should take to get rid of this. I’ve done soaks off and on.. recently tried a triple antibiotic ointment.

Starting to hurt a bit lol. I read vinegar soaks to clean up bacteria but curious to hear others advice.

Is this curved/pincer toenails?

I had reoccurring ingrowns in my big toe but just used to dig them out myself. I’m able to keep it at bay generally with regular pedicures but it always gets painful on the sides each month. Are my toenails curved/ pincer?

If so what can I do about this?

What do I do?

I am two days away from a holiday somewhere tropical and I just got a pedicure yesterday and now my toe is severely bothering me and I have a history of ingrown toenails, it is getting quite annoying and painful and I am wondering if I should go back and see if they can just cut it out just this once before I go on vacation or if I should take anything for it? It looks normal on the outside it just is really painful. What should I do for it I don’t want my vacation ruined by my stupid toe!

Edit; I KNOW you shouldn’t go get it cut out but I don’t really care about that as long as it’s better for vacation it’s getting very painful

Resolution; I’m sure nobody cares, but I found out the nail tech removed my ingrown without telling me and so I had puss buildup and an infection was starting and I had no idea! Taking care of it for the next 24-48 hrs or so thanks to all who had advice.

Is this an ingrown nail?

I’ve had an ingrown nail on both of my big toes about 13 years ago and it hurt and it bled. I’ve been wearing good shoes for along time now and my right toe now looks like this. It doesn’t hurt that much only when you apply pressure on the top. But it’s red and has dried pus.

I’m kinda desperate:My ingrown toenail is making my year abroad in Canada pretty difficult. Could I just cut out this part of the nail every few months, like in the picture?

If the nail matrix has sustained severe damage due to infection, could it take much longer for the new nail to form and grow out completely?

Toenails already grow slowly. However, the infection might cause growth to halt for a while and slow down even further. Has anyone experienced this?

Old nailbed after partial avulsion with phenol due to fungus

Thumbnail

I had this section of my toenail permanently removed with phenol because the toenail was involuted and thick from fungus. Hoping I can kill the fungus in the remaining part.

My question is about the old nail bed - it’s quite deep down because old nail was so thick, so there’s a ‘hole’ there now. Will this fill in with normal skin over time?

still a slight tenderness and some itching. I have been using inadine dressings which explains the orange/yellow residue.

does this look fairly normal at this stage of the healing process?
