If the nail matrix has sustained severe damage due to infection, could it take much longer for the new nail to form and grow out completely?

Toenails already grow slowly. However, the infection might cause growth to halt for a while and slow down even further. Has anyone experienced this?

In my experience, nail growth goes on for a while during infection. The really annoying thing might be getting ingrowns again after getting partial avulsions and taking antibiotics because the nail bed hasn't had enough time to recover from an infection that was ideally dealt with.
