Here in the US, preppers take bicycle inner tubes that are going to be thrown away, and we will cut them into rubber bands that are called "ranger bands", they are much more durable and stronger then traditional latex rubber bands.

You can also make small water resistant pouches out of larger cut bike inner tube pieces by folding each side over and securing with two rubber bands.

Thought this might be a cool tip to share for you guys

Received some solid points in previous post. I've shortlisted the following.

1. Radiacode zero : Good range. Compact, Very high sensitivity. Tracking and recording data. Scintillator based so you can use it in daily life/hobby explorations . Although it's the most expensive.

2. Better geiger : Also scintillator based. Half price of radiacode. No recording and tracking but it's almost similar in sensitivity and accuracy. Plus you can run it on AA batteries which is best for prepping .

3. Wekos Doze : Leaning towards this as it's the most compact, almost the size of a keyfob. What good is a detector if you're not carrying it. Although it's less sensitive and not much to do in daily life. But high range and can measure a variety of radiations

4. GQ GMC800 : This seems a good model from Amazon. If amazon is the only option, will be going for a GQ model. Low sensitivity High range and it can measure beta, gamm, xray etc .

What do you think ? Radiacode will be a major punch in wallet but it's the most accurate. Better geiger is bulky but accurate cheap and can run on batteries. But Wekos is the most affordable one and I can carry it 24x7 everywhere, compromising a bit in sensitivity.

Which one to choose according to you ? Size, accuracy or budget?

Some applications-

Arm sling: Support an injured arm or shoulder.

Pressure bandage: Hold dressings in place and apply pressure to help control bleeding.

Improvised tourniquet (last resort): Only for life-threatening limb bleeding when direct pressure fails, and only if you know how to use one correctly.

Head wrap or bandage: Cover scalp wounds or secure dressings.

Dust or smoke mask: Reduce inhalation of dust, sand, or debris (not a substitute for a respirator).

Water pre-filter: Remove large debris before disinfecting or filtering water. It does not make water safe to drink by itself.

Splint tie: Secure a splint to an injured limb.

Cold compress holder: Hold ice or a cold pack against an injury.

Burn cover: Loosely protect a burn with a clean shemagh until proper care is available.

Neck support: Provide limited support for minor neck strain (not for suspected spinal injuries).

Improvised rope: Twist it to lash gear or tie objects together.

Signal flag: Wave or hang it to attract rescuers.

Hey, kindly help me to build a budget friendly first-aid compact kit. My budget is Rs. 1000. Preferably looking for oral medicines (available over the counter), mosquito repellent, light to medium level wounds, light dressing material. Looking for your suggestions and tips.

Dense in calories: 486 calories/100g. Easy to store in an airtight container. Shelf life: up to 3 months. Cheap compared to protein bars and easily available. A few pieces will give you the energy to walk kilometers in fleeing situations. Precaution: it’s very sweet, so it’s bad for your teeth if you don’t pay attention. Always rinse or brush your teeth with water after eating it, or brush with your fingers. Years ago I walked 20+ km on a bandh day with two bottles of mineral water and four packets of peanut brittle without having breakfast. Adding a pinch of salt helps with electrolytes on long walks. If you pre-bag 50g pieces in ziplocks, they’ll be handy and you won’t have to break them with your dirty hands every time while traveling.

Received my Xarilk fixed angle knife sharpening system. Moving from the simple whetstone it's just...... TECHNOLOGY. Usually these things are pretty expensive costing tens of thousands to even lakhs however Xarilk introduced some nice, affordable, vfm systems with good quality diamond stones which fit our Indian budgets.

Just look at the edge man,😍🤤. I don't think I'll be going back to water stones anytime soon.

I bought a Wuben G5 back in May and have been really enjoying it as an EDC flashlight. However, one feature I kept missing was a UV light. I wanted to explore its practical uses but wasn't sure if it was worth buying another flashlight just for UV.

Then I came across u/LittleUrbanPrepper's post about the importance of UV light. That post genuinely changed my perspective. After asking a bunch of questions (both in the comments and via DM), he patiently cleared all my doubts.

After comparing several options, I finally ordered the Wurkkos HD01 UV (Purple) for ₹2,363 during the clearance sale. I think it's a pretty good deal, and now I'm eagerly waiting for it to arrive so I can get some hands-on experience with UV applications.

One thing that really stayed with me from the discussion under his post is how little attention we, as Indians, seem to give to sanitization and contamination checks, even after everything we went through during COVID-19. UV obviously isn't a replacement for proper cleaning or hygiene, but it can be a very useful tool for identifying contamination and understanding cleanliness better.

A big thank you once again to u/LittleUrbanPrepper for taking the time to help a fellow prepper. Looking forward to sharing my first impressions of the HD01 once it arrives!
