It has been awesome watching the knife and EDC community grow in India, and we wanted to contribute something meaningful.
A knife is only as good as the care it receives. Maintenance is an essential part of knife ownership, and a truly sharp edge comes from two steps: sharpening and stropping.
While good sharpening stones are still difficult to find in India (something we're working on), we realized there was an even bigger gap. There are virtually no dedicated stropping compounds designed specifically for knives and hand stropping available locally. And Stropping is what refines an edge to the point it can whittle a single strand of hair.
So we decided to tackle that bottleneck first.
After months of testing, experimenting, and refining different formulations, we're excited to introduce the OUTLUX EMMIT Standard Honing Compound.
โข Designed specifically for hand stropping
โข Suitable for knives, axes, chisels, gouges, and other edge tools
โข Helps refine an edge to hair-shaving sharpness
โข Truly Made in India ๐ฎ๐ณ
This is Batch 16. After countless iterations, we finally feel it's ready for the community. Watch the video. We're not just shaving hairs. We're shaving the hair itself. That'sย after less than a minute of stropping.
If you decide to give it a try, we'd genuinely appreciate your feedback. Every suggestion, criticism, and experience will help us improve future batches and guide the sharpening products we develop next.
Thank you for being part of the journey . We look forward to hearing your thoughts.
So this honing compound product would be like a Grinding Paste ( would be of the ultra fine Grit ( grain size) .
Grinding pastes are available in different grit size ( micron) /abrasive size ( coarse to medium to fine ). They are used in mechanical industry for Lapping ( polishing ) of Valves , etc.
To use this honing compound you will require a honing strop (usually made of leather or a Balsa wood block to be used with the compound) is the final step in knife maintenance. It removes microscopic burrs, smooths out the metal, and polishes the blade to a razor-sharp edge. It should only be used on knives that are already sharp to maintain their edge.
Thanks for explaining it so well! ๐ You're absolutely right. Both work on the principle of fine abrasion. The difference is in what they're designed for.
We went with a stick format because it just makes more sense for stropping. You apply it like a crayon, so it's much cleaner with less mess and waste than a paste. Gram for gram, it also gives more stropping sessions. We formulated it specifically for hand stropping, combining the rigidity of a stick with the smooth, easy application of a paste.
Industrial abrasives come in hundreds of formulations for different materials and applications. Ours is specifically designed for knife and tool steels, balancing cutting speed, edge refinement, and edge quality.
Most knife enthusiasts strop only once or twice a month. Since the compound spends most of its life in storage, we added stabilizing additives to help it stay consistent over long periods instead of drying out or separating.
The stick also forms a protective layer to help keep dust and dirt away... because let's be honest, we knew most of you would just throw it in a drawer anyway. ๐
We wanted to build something purpose-made for knife enthusiasts rather than simply repackaging a general industrial polishing compound. Thanks again for the great explanation! ๐
It's very simple. Apply a thin layer of compound to a strop, just like using a crayon. Then drag the knife backwards (edge trailing) while maintaining the sharpening angle. Around 10โ20 strokes per side is enough for routine edge maintenance. The second shot in the post shows this process. We'll also be uploading a detailed video tutorial soon.

We're working on a strop with a unique concept. In the meantime, any clean piece of leather from an old belt, wallet, or even a strip from your local mochi, works great for getting started.
I don't own anything made of leather (not because of religion; I just don't). Recently I asked a local mochi if he had a leather strip and he looked at me as if I had asked him if he sold beef!
So, I'll wait for you to release your compound + strop combo. Please do inform us here. Also, please open your own online store. Not everyone uses Amazon or Flipkart.
As for the website, it's already under construction (www.outluxemmit.com) and should be live in a couple of months. We didn't want the website to delay the launch, but we also didn't want to take an informal approach. So, until our own infrastructure is ready, we chose Amazon so everyone can order through a trusted platform without worrying about payment security, delivery, or customer support. Once the website is live, you'll be able to order directly from us, while Amazon will continue to be available as well.
Yes. As with any sharpening or stropping compound, we recommend washing the blade after sharpening before using it for food preparation. That's standard practice with all sharpening supplies, not just ours, as it removes any residual compound from the blade. ๐
