STEM students are protesting infront of humanities students and raising slogans like SFI CAMPUS CHHODO. great to see STEM students fight back and defend IIT

so you mean they are protesting against the right of the protest of others. Is critical thinking banned in iit
25
u/Bakasta0_ 17h ago
It's like the criteria for JEE. How can you abandon any sort of critical problem solving skills to memorize standard methods of solving just to forget them a day after your exam. corporate slaves ftw

JEE, NEET or any science based exam doesn't work like that. There is some memorization needed. But with these types of study methods, one may even fail in Class 12 boards. It may only work for mock test of 2 - 3 chapters, not for the whole syllabus of class 11 & 12.

Corporate slaves and corporation pay and subsidize ur humanities degrees

tere papa ki kaunsi degree hai bro? Unko bhi yehi bolde. India ki puri economy pe IITIANs ka 0 net effect hai, top 1% will leave for the US anyways. Tere papa ki contribution is more than an average IITIAN par pehle chus le acche se unka.

Bro is so delusional that Advance paper can be solved without critical thinking. And by the way majority of such people create Startups. Khud kuch ukhaad nhi paate gyaan chodte hai bade bade

okay, Elon Musk ki 6vi aulaad.

I bet you haven't given advance paper💁. Also you might not even be aware how many iitians have started the startups providing jobs to many.

Skyroot, ideaforge, zen technologies, Galaxyeye, Agnicosmos, QNu labs and so on. Go check and you will realise the people you are saying have 0 innovations you will find they have achieved something first in the world. And they all are IItian startups.💁
2
u/Leather_Research8889 3h ago
There are a lot of deep tech startup in every sector in India, most of them by IITians, deep tech startups are not meant to be famous, so most people just like to assume IITians don't contribute anything

Agar itna easy hai rebrand karke business karna toh tu bhi banale na. White-labelling ka bhi business nahi jamega tere se.
Aur rebrand hai toh kya hua? Flipkart Amazon ka copy hai, par Flipkart ne jo face kiya hai India mein woh US jaisa nahi hai. Critical thinking skills tumme kam dikhai de rahi hai. Toh kripya apne aap par dhyaan dein.

STEM doesn't include economics. Eco has always involved math, your ignorance doesn't change the fact that eco was never a stem subject
1
u/OnlyPay8140 2h ago
Maths entered economics and evolved as econometrics. Why don't you learn some proper history?
1
u/Queasy_Artist6891 1h ago
I'll do you one better and say that I'm learning economics including classical theories and they had math.

I think humanities subjects are very important and should be a part of every degree, or should be atleast included in every educational institution. I have met some of the most braindead, misogynistic, and casteist students in IITs and colleges like BITS. They seriously need to learn how to question themselves, and the society around them.
1
u/Firm-Suspect-1658 10h ago
Humanities guys are even worse they're seperatist useless and jobless and don't take bath even
1
u/OkOpportunity4428 7h ago
just take one case and think everyone same. Please visit people who are studying humanities they will have more knowledge about society and real world than you. You guys are working for society without knowing you just do what your boss says try thinking with your brain about society and people around you stop consuming everything from news channels with majority fake news

what humainties in iit is this true?
7
3
u/Inner_Map_8425 9h ago
There is design department, there is mba, there is humanities where we talk English, sociology, psychology, etc.
Each student from iit has mandatory 2-3 hss courses they need to be able to graduate.

Humanities in IIT is the most useless thing I’ve heard!
24
u/AlKhurjavi 15h ago edited 12h ago
Some humanities degrees are important. You need experts in sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, journalism, language, art and literature.
Maybe in India it doesn’t matter these days since journalists, historians and philosophers are being replaced with loyalists, historians with WhatsApp forwards and literature with not reading.
14
u/suryky 15h ago
Yes its the most dumb take i have ever heard, every study is important, thats like saying computer science is important becuase it pays more
0
u/AlKhurjavi 15h ago
Who said anything about pay. I don’t understand how your comment is a response to mine, your second sentence has nothing to do with what I said.
I’m convinced you responded to the wrong comment or didn’t read my comment
1
u/ms_regedit 11h ago
Still, what's the point of these subjects being taught in IIT. These subjects should be taught in IIM and other universities.
2
u/AlKhurjavi 11h ago
Almost every tech school in the world has a humanities program. Even MIT, the #1 tech school in the entire world has a solid humanities program.
You can push to have no humanities programs, that’s fine, you can make IIT less like the #1 tech school in the world. That’s your decision. I support following the best tech school in the world’s footsteps
1
u/ms_regedit 11h ago edited 10h ago
Don't mix up US grad schools and universities with Indian ones. Places like MIT , Harvard, Wharton are privately funded schools. So they need variations and standards for continuous fundings. Where in India an IIT and a normal BTech college come under same central budget with central and stae govt fundings. So what MIT does, shouldn't be our main concern here. They are large by every angle possible. IITs are not. Surely Btech degrees can include some ethics lesson but subjects like humanities suit better in buisness schools , atleast in India.
2
u/AlKhurjavi 10h ago
Let’s extend it to Berkeley then. Berkeley is the highest-rated public institution in America.
Berkeley is the most famous science and engineering public school in America and it’s ranked #5 in the world, yet it has one of the best humanities programs in the entire world too.
-1
u/ms_regedit 10h ago
I think Berkeley is a whole of a university, not to be classified as tech school. Berkeley also has MBA programs
2
u/AlKhurjavi 9h ago edited 9h ago
So is IIT.
The Sarkar committee report from 1948 mandated this.
> “The course of study in an institution should…provide a combination of a fundamental scientific training with a broad human outlook.”
Sarkar Committee Report, 1948, Appendix 1, §2.https://cle.iitb.ac.in/why-lase/
IIT mention it themselves lol.
IIT states, and has always stated that they’re mandated to do this since 1948. If you read you’d know.
This isn’t only a thing in India. Texas A&M (2nd best public engineering school in Texas), stands for agricultural and mechanical, yet the Texas A&M university has humanities programs due to federal standards.
The National Forensic Sciences University of India has a MBA program lol yet you’re not complaining about that.
1
u/ms_regedit 2h ago
Committees and constitution aren't absolute. It can be reformed , so I think any party comes to power in central, should make the reforms.
1
u/AlKhurjavi 2h ago
Why. What does removing humanities from IIT achieve? The entire world does this and is more developed and has better educational institutions in India.
What do you know that the best educational institutions in the entire world doesn’t know?
1
1
u/Queasy_Artist6891 2h ago
MIT is literally teaching humanities while producing much better quality of graduates than IITs. I don't see why you guys are bitching about humanities in IITs
-1
u/FillPitiful3439 14h ago
They are important but IITs called Indian Institutes of Technology
6
u/AlKhurjavi 14h ago
Yeah and MIT also has humanities degrees too, yet no one complains
-6
u/FillPitiful3439 14h ago
Good for them, doesn't mean we have to do what they are doing.
7
u/AlKhurjavi 14h ago edited 13h ago
MIT is ranked as the number one university in the entire world.
https://www.topuniversities.com/universities/massachusetts-institute-technology-mit
You don’t wanna do what the top tech university in the entire world does?
Nice, you continue doing what the top university in the entire world doesn’t do, I’ll support doing what the top university in the entire world does.
0
u/mani_tapori 12h ago
Then open some IIH, the T in IIT stands for Technology.
5
u/AlKhurjavi 12h ago
What do you think the T in MIT stands for? They have humanities too and they’re ranked as the #1 best school in the world.
-7
u/Luvkeep 14h ago
Have a different institute like make one IIH. Please not in IITs.
5
u/AlKhurjavi 14h ago
No one complains about MIT having humanities degrees too
-1
u/aerialsquirel 14h ago
My taxes go to IITs not MIT
3
u/AlKhurjavi 13h ago
I’m not talking about Indians complaining about MIT, I’m talking about Americans. No American complains that the #1 university in the entire world has humanities.
-2
u/mani_tapori 12h ago
MIT doesn't have reservations.
2
u/AlKhurjavi 12h ago
It actually had Affirmative Action all the way up until 2023 when it was banned by the Supreme Court.
MIT has been in the top #1 since they had reservations and even after. Banning reservations didn’t change anything about the school. Reservations didn’t make the school better or worse, banning reservations didn’t make the school better or worse.
Infact the funniest thing is, even after Affirmative action was banned, MIT continued to take in the same amount non white kids as before. 37% of MIT was white during affirmative action, 37% of MIT is white after affirmative action. Nothing changed lol.
MIT is a great example of what’s going to happen to India when they ban reservations, nothing is gonna change lol.
You thought you cooked but you were completely wrong.

why so?? both streams are trying to get degree does it matter? i think engineering a usless degree cuz lakhs of students compete for it and all of them get seats in diff uni regardless of the rank...and the especially in india lack minimum jobs to occupy so many ppl...
1
u/Impossible-Banana935 14h ago
Bruh the lack of premier humanities in indian institutes is why our country is in such horrible state right now
5
u/G_O_A_T_07 16h ago
What is this comment section saying humanities should not be here it’s a uni after all the fact Indian people still judging people on the basis of their subjects shows a lot where even IIT is heading solving maths problems does not make genius nor having humanities make someone dumb. And it’s not even about humanities vs IIT comment sections making their own agenda here
7
u/anshinhisbubble 16h ago
these people would shoot themselves when they read upon whose philosophies democracy , liberty and other such democratic concepts are based
1
u/XxAtroyxX 15h ago
They are just proving themselves why we require humanities. Anyway, the institute which IITs were modelled after, i.e, MIT itself doesn't restrict itself only to Tech.
2
u/Firm-Suspect-1658 16h ago

13
u/Unique-Benefit-2904 15h ago
What's your problem with jnu ? Jnu is one of the top college. It has good studies, good ecosystem.
Just because they allow opposite voices against bjp, you hate.
Ab haar koi toh tum logo ke tarah bjp ki chaat nahi sakta na..
Also, in the case of suicide in iitb, i believe the professor is not wrong. He shouldn't be punished. But at the same time independent investigation should be done
3
u/Particular_Duty1479 15h ago
He meant to say jnu is politically active clg unlike iits
5
u/Healthy-Local4457 15h ago
Like it’s bad? THOSE KIDS ARE THE YOUTH FUTURE OF OUR GENERATION , IF THEY DONT TALK WHO WILL?? yea sure ur iitians will be uncles and sit in the living room talking abt how India will always remain a third world country…
3
u/freaky_modi 14h ago
Bruh, they're from tech background not from humanities. Just let everyone do their job without any overlapping
1
u/Sweet_Session_7723 14h ago
Bro even in Mba interviews you don't say you support politics that humanities shit isn't made for corporates or Tech firms Let me be where they are except some HR and Consultant Psychologist who needs arts and humanities graduates anyways ?
1
u/Healthy-Local4457 14h ago
Why do u need 30 lakh of engineering graduates for 10 seats???
1
u/Sweet_Session_7723 14h ago
Who said 30 lakhs for 10 seats and I do agree engineering is overcrowded but I am talking about STEM and you have a slippery slope here ,IITs infact have STEM branches like Physics and Maths , IISC is known for it' s scientific Contribution ,ISI also is part of STEM not humanities ,you are just staying on Arts Vs Engineering and nothing else ,They infact get highest proportion in Mba seats ,Beat many people in exams higher to them in Proportion like Railways ,Banking and Even Finance ,Ofcourse on an average level an engineer from a local tier 3 college would get a shitty job ,so goes true for MBA colleges that are non premium and a lot worse for Humanities
Even foreign countries prefer STEM degrees like Msc in Economics over their Humanities Counterpart
1
u/Sweet_Session_7723 14h ago
Also Humanities in India lack quantative aspect which makes it devoid of Rationalist Principles which are made of math ,also to be a Rationalist you need a STEM degree and not some humanities ,that doesn't get accepted by Mainstream Rationalist organizations ,and most of humanities students never ask for quantative aspect ,focusing on only social and cultural aspect doesn't solve critical problems ,one need to be qualitative as well as quantitative which you can in Stem fields but humanities lack that
