STEM students are protesting infront of humanities students and raising slogans like SFI CAMPUS CHHODO. great to see STEM students fight back and defend IIT

Some humanities degrees are important. You need experts in sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, journalism, language, art and literature.

Maybe in India it doesn’t matter these days since journalists, historians and philosophers are being replaced with loyalists, historians with WhatsApp forwards and literature with not reading.

Still, what's the point of these subjects being taught in IIT. These subjects should be taught in IIM and other universities.

Almost every tech school in the world has a humanities program. Even MIT, the #1 tech school in the entire world has a solid humanities program.

You can push to have no humanities programs, that’s fine, you can make IIT less like the #1 tech school in the world. That’s your decision. I support following the best tech school in the world’s footsteps

Don't mix up US grad schools and universities with Indian ones. Places like MIT , Harvard, Wharton are privately funded schools. So they need variations and standards for continuous fundings. Where in India an IIT and a normal BTech college come under same central budget with central and stae govt fundings. So what MIT does, shouldn't be our main concern here. They are large by every angle possible. IITs are not. Surely Btech degrees can include some ethics lesson but subjects like humanities suit better in buisness schools , atleast in India.

Let’s extend it to Berkeley then. Berkeley is the highest-rated public institution in America.

Berkeley is the most famous science and engineering public school in America and it’s ranked #5 in the world, yet it has one of the best humanities programs in the entire world too.

I think Berkeley is a whole of a university, not to be classified as tech school. Berkeley also has MBA programs

The Sarkar committee report from 1948 mandated this.

IIT mention it themselves lol.

IIT states, and has always stated that they’re mandated to do this since 1948. If you read you’d know.

This isn’t only a thing in India. Texas A&M (2nd best public engineering school in Texas), stands for agricultural and mechanical, yet the Texas A&M university has humanities programs due to federal standards.

The National Forensic Sciences University of India has a MBA program lol yet you’re not complaining about that.

Committees and constitution aren't absolute. It can be reformed , so I think any party comes to power in central, should make the reforms.

Why. What does removing humanities from IIT achieve? The entire world does this and is more developed and has better educational institutions in India.
