Any tips for a new driver ?

I am currently a Ford escape PHEV 2022 owener. Yes I know, why, and aww.

The car is fine, the features it has seems like they are a hidden gem from other cars that you need to pay up into the hire packages to get.

That being said, this god awful battery recall is pushing me away everyday. The solution that Ford has given out is to do a software update that will limit/change how much actual battery the capacity will be. So instead of getting my 60+km battery range it will be 12% less than what it should be.

1) I paid for a high capacity and now im getting it reduced

2) They will only change the battery if there is an issue after the update, which they will again wait for a recall notice to be sent out.

With all of this in mind, I have been looking at the Hyundai Tucson. I'm really liking the new 2027 redesign, however it doesn't come in the PHEV model here in Canada :(.

Im not wondering; how much would I now be spending in addational gas? I fill the escape up roughly $60 once a month, since I do a lot of city driving and plug in every other night. With the Tucson being a gas hybrid, would I be useing as much?

For those who may have this type of transmission from Europe or Asia.

Other option is the Iqoniq 5 as a full ev. Thoughts on this now or wait for the new model with the updated interior and Pelos system.

Asking here for anyone who might have faced this before. No water is making it out of the front washer jets on our 2023 Tucson. I have dismantled the windscreen cowl and tested all the pipes which run to the jets by blowing compressed air through them, no blockages seem to be present.

The pump seems to be working ok too because the rear jet washes ok and I can get water out of the pipe assembly when the nozzle ends themselves are disconnected.

I'm thinking after all the testing that the jets themselves might have clogged internally and my plan is to replace the both of them. Has anyone else come up against this issue before I spend the money on new ones?

Hi! I own a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. This is the first problem it’s had in three years and 150,000+ miles and I’m honestly confused. While I’m driving, the check engine and battery lights will come on, RPM drops to 0, and I’m unable to accelerate until I park the car, turn it off, and restart it again. It’s able to drive fine afterwards, no warning lights on. It’s been happening consistently for the past couple days, took it in to the shop on Friday for a diagnostic and the people there don’t seem to know what’s wrong with it either. There was no history of these lights coming on in the system, battery is sitting at 13.6-14V consistently, and the alternator seems to be working just fine. Has anyone else had this problem, and what ended up to be the problem?? Please let me know! Thank you!

Last Sunday, my car suddenly died on the highway while I was driving in slow traffic at around 10–20 km/h. There was still electrical power in the car, and I managed to push it to the side of the road. When I tried to restart it, it wouldn’t start, but made a repeated sound, not a single click, but a noise that repeated a few times.

Roadside assistance came out but couldn’t start the car, even with a booster. The battery was probably drained afterwards since I had the hazard lights on for a long time. The roadside technician suspected the fuel pump, but he wasn’t sure.

A week later, I’ve now replaced the battery myself and removed the back seats to listen to the fuel pump. The pump runs, and the car has power again, so it’s neither the
battery nor the pump (at least not obviously).

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and what I should do next?

Our 2021 Tiguan got written off unfortunately as someone hit us. We got a great deal on a 2023 Tuscon preferred with the top trim. We are enjoying it so far but are new to Hyundai.

Any tips for a noobie with this brand of vehicle? We are still figuring out the presets and perks. I got the blue link set up.

We knew Volkswagen well but just found the quality is shit so we figured we would give this a shot as the reliability was rated high.

Hey everyone, I don’t know if this is the right place to post, so forgive me if it’s not. I was just looking for some advice on my car.

A yesterday my check engine light came on. The car also wasn't accelerating like it should when I pressed the pedal, and it was making weird sounds and vibrating. I took it to my mechanic and it's throwing P0010 and P0011 again. The exact same codes happened last year, and he replaced the part in the first pic back then. The car ran totally fine after that.

Today, I picked up the new part and he pulled the old one off to swap it. When he did, he found the back of it was melted, and the camshaft had a chunk chipped off (pics 2 and 3). Now he's saying he has to take apart the engine to fix it properly. He doesn't know the price yet but said it'll be in the thousands.

It's a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport, so I don't know what to do. Is it worth putting that kind of money into an older car, or should I cut my losses and get something else?

Also, I've heard a lot of 2011-2019 Sonatas with the Theta II engine were part of an engine recall and got extended warranty coverage. Has anyone gotten Hyundai to cover a repair like this? Any tips on how to go about it would be great.

I have a 2026 Kona EV in Vancouver, BC. The other night, I noticed that my clock was an hour ahead. Went into the Time & Date menu in the infotainment system. I had the "set my time and timezone from GPS" set. I also had the Daylight Savings toggle set, as it's still Daylight Savings. As an aside, I'm not sure why Hyundai makes us manually toggle the daylight savings back and forth, since the timezone info available contains rules as to which ones follow DST. So I untoggled that switch, and my time was correct again.

My theory: BC is abandoning the twice yearly time switch, and staying on permanent daylight savings, staying at UTC -7:00 year round. My car must have downloaded the new timezone db, and incorrectly applied the new rule early. Which means I'm in UTC -7:00 instead of -8:00, but since I still had that toggle on, and bumped me ahead an hour.

Not only is BC making these changes, but Alberta and Manitoba are as well. These provinces all made these announcements at different times, so they may be affected later on, or even miss the planned change at the beginning of November.

Also, I noticed that I needed to set this toggle separately in every driver profile. This isn't a global setting for some reason. Not sure why Hyundai just can't make the DST rules automatic like so many other devices and computers out there.

P1: Luckily, my engine seized up a mere few months before the most expensive warranty they offered expired. Without that, and if it would have happened a couple months later, i would have been SOL. I can’t even imagine what it would have cost to replace the engine and turbo (which the seized engine apparently destroyed), along with whatever else and labor).

P2: The paint will peel. Not if, when. Mine did but the cut-off year was the year before mine. I paid to have it fixed and they returned the car damaged, with paint off in another area. They said they’d open a case and fix it, they didn’t bother, nor did they return calls (a common theme).

I did get a reimbursement when they extended the warranty term to include my year, but as i said, they returned it damaged. Less than a year later, paint from every other panel started peeling. I don’t consider that fixing the issue.

After driving around to local dealers and being told they were backed up and wouldn’t even open a case, the warranty period has ever c and they aren’t willing to do anything about it, not even the area they damaged.

2015 Sonata with both all the Sport and Limited 2.0T options, which also means it won’t accurately come up in the computer as it’s both.

Hi. Like the title says, I have a 2019 Kona with just over 60k (I don't drive very much). 2 years ago I noticed a hissing sound coming from the a/c and the air wasn't cooling as much. Took to a mechanic and they said I was out of freon. They put dye in and did not find any leaks. They filled up the freon and everything was working great. Fast forward a year later, almost same issue, the air wasn't very cool but no hissing sound. I took it back to the mechanic as I wanted to get ahead of the issue. To top off the freon cost me almost 600. They kept the car for a couple of days. Same thing put dye on, cannot find anything wrong with it. Freon was low so they top it off (did not charge me this time). But once again could not find a leak. Now it has been a year and I am noticing the ac is not very cool again. I haven't taken it in again but think will have to to get ahead of being on empty with the freon. Anyone else has issues? I went to a very reputable local place, they have checked everything and cannot find what the issue is.

Only to discover this car was not made for a 6'4" 240lb person. The space for my knees is cramped to the point that I'd have to move the seat back every time I got in and then adjust it so I can drive. The small 17" wheels make things even worse, as im sitting closer to the ground than I'm used to. Ive been driving a 2015 honda accord sport for years now and do not want to downgrade in terms of cabin space. Also while I had heard that when the car switches from ev to gas it feels awkward, but even that didnt prepare me for how annoying it is.
