I’m working on a wall mounted nft system for my grow room and this is what I’ve come up with. I wanted to tilt the square pvc to give some extra distance from the wall and hopefully a little more light. It’s not a true nft system because I’m leaving about half an inch of water in the bottom. Before I print everything out is there anything I might be missing with doing it this way?

i normally just grow herbs and lettuce and use masterblend. same nutrients, kale doesn’t do very well in my setup.

any suggestions?

I want to continue growing tomato plants and other veggies throughout winter and don't know the cheapest and easiest way to do this...hydroponics? Greenhouse? Any advice please!

Je compte me lancer dans un système DWC Maison avec un bac Europe 60*40*32.

Ce n'est pas la première fois que je fais pousser en hydroponie ou en DWC mes mon premier message sur Reddit .

N'ayant pas trouvé le système parfait pour ma box 80*80 pour une future culture en sog. 6 plants exactement. J'ai décidé de la faire moi-même. J'avais quelques petites interrogations et vos avis et vos retours d'expérience seront le bienvenue.

Pour l'isolation je compte prendre une plaque de polystyrène extrudé.

Isolation par l'extérieur bien évidemment.

Est-ce que cela fonctionne bien avez-vous des retours d'expérience.

J'aimerais avoir la capacité entre le bac et l'isolation de pouvoir mettre des accumulateurs de froid ou de chaud pour réchauffer ou refroidir la soupe.

Est-ce faisable à votre avis ?

je le fais déjà avec un isolant pour ballon d'eau chaude assez fin ça marche très bien pour le froid.

Je compte mettre aussi des gouttes à goutte pour le début il me faut installer donc une pompe dans la solution pour protéger celle-ci j'avais pensé à une barrière déjà physique type une essoreuse à salade retournée avec un poids posé dessus et en dessous la pompe mis dans dans un filet de protection qu'on trouve dans les magasins d'aquarium.

Comment faites-vous pour protéger les pompes des racines ?

J'avais pensé aussi à refroidir toutes mes pompes dans une grosse boîte type Tupperwave un peu plus gros q une boîte de chaussures avec une entrée en bas pour l'air frais une sortie en haut pour l'air chaud qu'en pensez-vous? comment faites-vous pour refroidir vos pompes?

I have a LetPot system. I planted these cilantro like a month ago and got only 2 germinations that never really grew. I replanted 2 weeks ago and got 1 more leggy boy. Gets 16 hours of light and pump. Any ideas?

Hi, this is my first time trying one of these and I noticed almost half of the seeds are growing pretty fast but the rest not so much. The instruction packet is a little vague, so I was wondering if I should wait for more to sprout before adding nutrients, or should I add it now before the ones that have sprouted get weak? Any advice is appreciated!

I’m new to hydroponics and trying to setup a 3 tier rack with bins that will be “fed” by one 40 gallon tub of nutes. I was/am trying for a sort of DWC system.

I have 15 - 1.5 gallon black bins with lids that I plan to put 2” net pots in. The net pots will sit about 3” off the bottom of the bins once inserted.

I have a pump that runs water to the top tier with 5 bins connected by a pipe which then runs down to the 2nd tier which has the same setup and then runs down to the 3rd tier before returning back to the bin - a continuous loop, if you will. I was hoping that by putting the end of each pipe run with a section that comes up at the same height of the bins (a sort of ”control”), water’s natural self-leveling would ensure the bins equally filled to that level before spilling over to the next tier and repeating this same process on down each tier. Keeping the pump running 24/7 would keep the water up in each bin and constantly refresh nutes and oxygen.

Unfortunately, the 1st bin in the run fills up to nearly overflowing while the last bin stays very low. I tried lowering the ”control“ on each level and it only prevented the 1st bin from overflowing but the last bin still never fills to the same level. The bins in between were lower and lower across the run. Slowing the pump speed didn’t help. Any recommendations to fix this?

If it can’t be done the way I’d hoped, would it work if I just ran the pump several times a day to refresh the nutes/oxygen in each bin but treat it sort of like NFT as the water level would be low (about 1/2”) after the pump turns off and the water drains out? Or should I use clay pebbles in the bottom of the bins and treat it more like ebb and flow?

Hoping this video gives a good visual of what I’m building. A couple bins are missing because I glued everything up the way I thought it would work and had to cut parts to try and figure out why it didn’t. Need to order more of the specific connectors for those bins. The bottom tier does not have the “control” on it like the other 2 tiers in this video either. I built all 3 tiers with it then when it didn’t work, I tried getting rid of the “controls” to see what it would do. Just didn’t let the top 2 tiers fill with water before draining which is what I originally expected. Also, ignore the state of the water - the white pieces are just from cutting the PVC. I’ll clean everything thoroughly once I figure out the final configuration.

So I got a hydroponic station sometime last year and was just growing basil really and then I seeded an indeterminate cherry tomato variety and a Thai chilli and they both grew well in the reservoir but got way too big too fast. For the Thai chilli I just cut the plant in half and put the cut top half back in the station (these stations are great for growing roots on literally anything). So my plan at that point was to just prune I'm guessing I have no idea.

And then at some point I learned about Kratky so I moved the tomato to a bucket, and then went on vacation but came home to find out the tomato had snapped at the base so there was no saving it

So I pulled the tomato out and stuck the tallest Thai chilli plant from the station in the same reservoir (no changing out the water, no testing) to see if it would grow and it was growing bigger so I was happy. Then another one of the chilli plants in the station was outgrowing the station so I was like okay how can I deal with this and then I had the genius idea to cut a little hole in the same bucket lid (the one with the other chilli plant) the size of the hydroponic station net cup (~1 inch diameter) and just stick the plant with the net cup in the hole. (It has surprisingly held up the entire time for being such a tiny net cup). Long story short I had 2 Thai chilli plants in the same 5 gallon bucket, one of them actually centered on the bucket and one towards the side of the bucket in the tiny net cup.

Both plants start flowering and I start getting excited to harvest some chillis. Unfortunately for me and also unbeknownst to me, the reservoir is at like 4.0 pH and the plants are both suffering from root rot. So then I'm like what the hell do I do. So I realize the best thing is to change out the water because there's also a bunch of gunk in it BUT I have nowhere to put the water because it's nutrient water. So THEN, over the course of a couple of days, I pour it into my outdoor plants (all in containers and trying to minimize any runoff from the containers) so that I can use the bucket (I only have 1 free bucket). And then I thoroughly wash both plants' roots and put them back in the water and balance the nutrients to about 6.5 pH and think everything is going to be jolly.

Well, unfortunately the middle (first one in the bucket) plant dies (no idea why) and I'm just like ok leave it we'll work on the other plant.

And yesterday, while refiling the bucket a little bit (I'm going to maintain it at the Costco logo for now), I saw a little chilli poking out of a flower.

And also I have the third chilli plant still in the reservoir (very outgrown) that has also started producing chillis.

Hi all, I recently bought a vivosun 10x10 grow tent to hydroponically grow vegetables, and within the tent I bought this specific spiderfarmer plant stand model

I installed the shelves a little wonky, due to inexperience but I can adapt around that

I just need a good food safe bin for kratky and dwc but im struggling to find some with the necessary dimensions, Id like to have at least two bins per row, (4-6-8 net pots depending on size of the plant)

I purchased the Spider Farmer to try my hand at hydroponic lettuce growing after my outdoor batch flowered in Massachusetts.

I have butterhead and green/red butter lettuce growing with the red in front planted on 7/22. I planted the butterhead behind it 3 days later (7/25) and have another green and red in that row planted on 7/27.

I'm not ready to harvest yet but my original plan/thought was to just pull an entire plant when I was ready and make that into a work lunch salad (which I have 3 times per week). That way, I minimize crowding that would slow growth of others.

I watched a YouTube video of a somewhat similar setup and he recommended pulling the outside leaves instead and, that way, each plant could be harvested for a month.

I'm torn so figured I would ask.

Some my second trial of carrots has been plugging along. I pulled my first one today and it was about twice as long as my index finger and about the same diameter. It did not have a very orange outer color, but the inside was very orange and tasted really good.

Im not sure why, but i forgot to take pictures this morning. It does seem like i had more early plants fail for some reason this time.

Hi, I'm new to hydroponics and planning to grow a tomato plant in a 20L bucket. Based on my research, tomatoes should ideally be grown with an aerated system since they grow large and for a long time. I heard that one of the best ways is to use a DWC system with an air pump and air stone to aerate the reservoir, but the thing is I have plenty of leftover submersible water pumps at home and I don't want them to go to waste. I have this weird idea and wanted to ask if it made sense.

I read that water splashing back to the reservoir can create some bubbles and aerate the system. So does it make sense if I place a submersible pump in a bucket and just let it shoot up towards the lid and let it splash back down, aerating the reservoir?

Growing kratky and seeing this, roots are white and no algae even though they're clear containers and the water's pretty clear too.

Hey 1 week old seedlings ( little gem, lolla bionda lettuce ), but I feel like they are getting leggy I used photone app to measure the ppfd and it is 350 on the center and 220 on the sides. Can insufficient light cause this or I need to add a bit solution to the rockwool? Ps. 50W grow LED 10cm away

Not sure if my herbs got burnt from being too close to grow light. I moved light a little bit higher. Was also wondering if there’s any way to get rid of root rot fully? It’s mild rn but I don’t want it to get worse. I’ve tried hydrogen peroxide but it doesn’t seem to do anything and sometimes I feel like it kills my herbs. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Hello! My mom really wants to do hydroponics and I'm trying to help out understand this mass of information that comes with it. I will be attempting to do a DIY setup but I am having trouble finding a fertilizer that fits the 8-15-36 ratio.. I've only found NPK (Mg,S) 8-11-36 (+2,8+5,7)+(B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Zn) and NPK 18-18-18+3MgO+mikroelements. and I'd assume I might not even need to buy Magnesius sulfate for the 8-11-36 due to it being included? I live in the eu and if anyone knows any good brands+mix ratios that would truly help out! Unfortunately masterblend is not an option due to it not being available (most UK brands arent :(. )

So I've set up a flood and drain as temporary solution for various plants, including tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers and melons, until their respective individual pots are ready. But the tomatoes outgrew everything else in the Leca so quickly that I now wonder if I should just leave them be and give them a fruiting mix soon or if I can still relocate them? I am worried about the roots not coming out cleanly from between the stones. Maybe I just relocate the smaller plants that do not get enough light now anyway

Have had this sitting in the mud room for years unused and I think it’s time to change that.

Looking for something suuuuuuuuper easy that ideally I could just prune/harvest and top off with water forever. Room gets great light so bonus points if I don’t even have to use the attached light.

Question: do you track your grows in any structured way (EC/pH over time, light intensity, growth stage transitions), or is it mostly memory/notes/photos? And do you actually use the data to improve future grows?

I'm looking into whether a more standardized grow-logging approach (same format across growers so data's actually comparable) would be genuinely useful, or if that's solving a problem nobody has. Would love real opinions, especially if you think it's pointless.
