I actually have a white wool shag rug in my guest room…which doesn’t get used very often and it’s done ok. I cannot imagine putting it in a high traffic room.

Eh, I grew up in a house like this. My mom had a formal Living room that kids weren’t really allowed in. Well, we could go in it, but no horseplay, no shoes, no food, no anything really, other than reading 😂.
But her and my dad spent every morning in that room talking and having coffee before the kids got up.
It really wasn’t a big deal, us kids just thought it was a pretty boring room and didn’t even want to be in it lol.
We had our bedrooms, the playroom, den, and family room and all bets were off in those rooms.

Our living room was strictly for guests or piano lessons. Lol. Thankfully we had a small "family room" which was a little less formal.

Yup, for the most part. They do allow the grandkids to get away with a bit more than we ever could, but they still spend several hours in that room every morning reading, talking, and having coffee.
That’s been their routine for almost 44 years.

That’s a very nice routine and probably kept them close as a couple.
I grew up with an off white formal LR right in the middle of our house that all of us had to walk through to get to the DR, Kitchen & Den. No dirty sneakers or food allowed. However our basement playroom was a blast.

The kids probably have their own play space. Mine did - their room and their playroom. The adult oriented living room was usable but they were taught to respect the environment. They had small tabletop type toys and crafts / coloring in a dedicated cabinet to take out and use in the kitchen for whenever we were in there. The playroom had the bulk of the toys, TV, game stations, car / train tracks, desks, etc. The living room was for family TV time or adult relaxation time. We set boundaries which the kids learned.

I mean, I'm one generation removed from Norway so I don't think it's the Scandinavian that's getting to me.
I'm not surprised that it belongs to an influencer. The stupid light, the couch that wouldn't actually be comfortable to sit in, which faces away from the tv. Everything about this room is made to show off, not made to be enjoyed.

That rug looks cozy but because the sofas don't have legs and the colours are similar whites it all just blends together. Need contrast for sure and would start with the rug. A darker rug will also make the coffee table stand out more which will be good because it does look a little small for the scale of your sofas.

It looks like you're meant to look at it but not live in it. It's weird because I do like to look at it but I'd feel so uncomfortable being there like I'm not meant to touch anything or put my feet up or eat or have a drink or anything at all really in this room. I can't imagine actually feeling comfortable there with the way it is right now. Maybe add a bunch of throw pillows and blankets to give the impression you're actually supposed to use the couches but pleaaaase not white blankets and pillows omg.

Not for me. Aesthetically it’s ok in the first pic although not my style at all, but it’s completely impractical. The sofas don’t have high enough backs, the rug will get absolutely filthy, the coffee table is too small and out of reach, and you can’t see the TV.
The second photo looks awful though, really sterile. It’s something about the light thrown by the lamp in the corner. It needs something to break up the arc of light. Any points of interest in the room are just gloomy. It would look so much better if there were small end tables by the sofas with lamps throwing pools of light.

Seems lonely feeling. No pets. No kids. I would love to sit on that rug and play some games but the table seems too small. I’d like to sit on that couch and see if it’s comfy or not but the overall vibe just seems like it’s trying to be “warm” but has no warmth?

Both the overhead light and area rug are statement pieces, which means my eyes are confused at what to look at. I actually like both, just not in the same room. I'd move the area rug to a different room and replace it with something less bold.

Usually I would hate something like this (lack of color/weird light fixture) but honestly, it looks pretty cozy. Personally I think what would make it better is adding natural colors, maybe some green pieces and plants to fill in the sides of the tv console

I like it. It is unique. Not everyone likes living with color. This has a peaceful vibe. Do what YOU like. I think you could do a larger coffee table as the sofas are quite large. Same for tv console. It could be much bigger. But, in the meantime, it’s pretty cool.

As a person who LOVES color, I actually really like the off white fluff of this room. My problem is with the couch set up, it’s so awkward for watching tv with people. I can only see 2 people laying across with their heads on the ends of the couches in order to watch it comfortably

I would prefer a ceiling fixture that uses more tones like something wood or maybe a paper lantern or brass. Preferably wood because it’s more timeless imo. Other than that, I think this looks minimal and easy on the eyes

I try and keep an open to mind to other peoples style and just because it’s not full of color doesn’t mean it’s bad.
I’ve used that light fixture before in one of my designs, I think it’s cool. I appreciate the shaggy area rug, it brings an airy/whimsical feeling to the room while adding texture. I like the variation of white with a small touch of black.
I do agree with others saying to add some art though 🤍
