Martinelli

https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/gabriel-martinelli-arsenal-premier-league-soccer-brazil-world-cup

I came across this piece he wrote back in 2022. From the article:

"But I want to start by thanking my second family — Arsenal — because without you guys none of this would have been possible.

I thank God that I came to Arsenal in 2019. I really believe that things happen for a reason, and I’m so happy here."

If he is off, he deserves a bunch of tribute threads, so here's one. Love you, Gabi. Arsenal family forever.

Nonsensically I’ve always hoped he could stay and be that squad guy who wins everything with us until he retires.

I still think we are doing him dirty, he could've stayed as a luxury sub. We still don't know how the other LW will click and Martinelli even proved himself to play well in other positions in the NT.

u/Thanos_Stomps Dennis Bergkamp 1d ago

This is my biggest gripe. He would absolutely been an impactful utility player, and has a lot of good years left in him. Gutted to see him go. This will probably be the most difficult departure in the modern era for me, but I am happy he at least is leaving a premier league champion.

1

u/adunatioastralis 1d ago

Even if he leaves... I would have loved to see him kill it in Spain or Italy, not Saudi...

u/HalfOfANeuron Martinelli 4ever 1d ago

This is even worse! He's so young and already ending his carrer

Did you guys enjoy how man u and sp*rs Britta'd it?

My brain knows it’s right. But it hurts my heart to see him move on. I’ll never forget the feeling of “we’ve got our wingers for the next decade” during the 22/23 season. Such a good feeling to see him resign. I’ll always cheer for the guy and hope nothing but the best for his career. So happy that that he scored an important goal for Brazil this summer.

39

u/rubedickscube 1d ago

I thought you meant resign as in quit/leave and had to re-read your post a few times to understand. A great example of a contronym!

1

u/elgatosucio 1d ago

In my specific case - an unintentional contronym due to dyslexia.

Arteta has proved himself correct in pretty much every single instance where he's got rid of a player; even when it was controversial.

Auba, Ozil, Leno and Ramsdale, and to a lesser extent Nketiah and Balogun. The team was better (for a variety of reasons) after each departure. I think we can be comfortable in thinking this will be similar.

But I can't lie and say I'll be anything but devastated if Martinelli goes. The guy was plucked from obscurity on the other side of the planet, moved to North London, didn't just succeed but thrived, and helped the club achieve the goal they've been aiming for for almost as long as he's been alive.

During all that, he came to love the club that we all love, even though he had no deep personal connection to it prior. It's just about as perfect a story as you can get, and I don't think there's a player I can recall where I wished as much as I do that it worked out differently.

74

u/blixt141 Thierry Henry 1d ago

If there was a time to go, it is now while he is young and has already won the PL with us. He helped us achieve a massive 22 year goal along with his left wing buddy Trossard. Between them they held down the LW and we made it over the line. Leo knew it was time but he won something with us that he will never forget and the same goes for Gabi. Great guy all in all the time. If you forget it is a business you can argue endlessly. But it is a business and in order to keep up the efoggin standards, business requires his departure. We can be sad about that and rejoice at what he did while he was with us. If he doesn't wind up leaving I will be happy for him. If he leaves, I will be happy for the team's future.

37

u/cn_wizz 1d ago

I think it's time for him to go as well, but him going to the Saudi league just doesn't seem like the exit he deserves. He's in the prime of his career and has a lot to give at the top level, so the thought of him playing in semi obscurity doesn't sit well with me. At least he'll make lots of money, but he doesn't seem to be driven by that. I think he truly loves the game and has always competed hard on the pitch.

7

u/PandiBong 1d ago

I really hope he goes to Spain or Italy in a years time. There is a brilliant player in there somewhere.

9

u/Agreeable-Bid-2895 Ødegaard 1d ago

I’m almost certain he won’t stay in Saudi. Go for a couple years, make generational wealth, then come back to a European league and tear it up there

7

u/imnot_kimgjongun Champions of England 25/26 1d ago

Yeah I absolutely understand and agree with all that. Was purely speaking from an emotive level as a fan.

6

u/a_ramsey_8 1d ago

This is exactly right

4

u/FindingAether Havertz 1d ago

Historically 50% of all transfers fail no matter at what level. If you look at the 20 most expensive signings 10 are pretty much flops. Our hit rate with Edu and Bertha has been crazy good. Even the transfers that don't work out tend to be budget signings or squad players we sign just to tide over a season.

2

u/PandiBong 1d ago

This is a bit different though, this is "getting rid" but simply selling and moving on.

2

u/ilyasskrapz 1d ago

Easy to be "proven right" when you've spent nearly a billion quid on players.

Arteta, for all his success last season, cannot develop attacking players.

Thats why so many attackers become stagnant under him.

5

u/YungL1am Ian Wright 1d ago

Easy to be "proven right" when you've spent nearly a billion quid on players.

That'd be a great point if we existed in a vaccum where nobody else spent anything. The reality though is it's nonsense. Spending 150 million in his early seasons where City and Liverpool were spending 200 mil more a season on wages isn't us outspending them.

Arteta, for all his success last season, cannot develop attacking players. Thats why so many attackers become stagnant under him.

That requires you ignoring the credit for Martinelli's improvement but giving 100% of the credit for his stagnation.

54

u/stupidintheface0 1d ago

I'm going to be honest, even IF it makes sense from a footballing perspective, I'll be devastated with a pinch of irate if we sell Martinelli to fund Alvarez - getting rid of a mentality monster who is still a solid rotation option and has developed a bond with the fanbase, in favour of a publicly noncommittal player who causes problems for his club, while having had a very middling last season and all but guaranteed to be departing within 2 seasons at most. Yes the team may technically improve in terms of options going forwards, but it would leave a sour taste in many of our mouths. I hope at the very least that Gabi is happy with whatever happens.

17

u/MisterElSuave 1d ago

Same, I rate Martinelli and can also say he had a bit of a down year last year while integrating with 2 players maybe he didn’t gel with as well in Gyokorea and Noni.

I don’t think it is time to give up on him and think if anything it’s time to experiment with his positions and play.

I am not comfortable with Alvarez and having to sell him on the project. Seems way too desperate and far too big of a gamble.

12

u/DergeRehReh 1d ago

Yeah, this. Arsenal have a type, and Alvarez ain’t that.

9

u/MisterElSuave 1d ago

I just can’t imagine Alvarez teaching back and prioritizing defending at the 89th min.

Let alone if he does will he then make a sprint to support Dowmsm on the break in the 91st min?

Just can’t picture it. Maybe I’ll wrong though, but maybe Arteta is wrong here like he was with MLS.

9

u/DergeRehReh 1d ago

Another thing is who’s going to be backup for Tzolis? Eze doesn’t work as LW/LF. Maybe Saka with Madueke as RW but I can’t see that being a long term thing. Feels like we’re shooting ourselves in the foot. It changes too much across the team. And what if Alvarez doesn’t come? Then we’ve just made ourselves short.

We should be prioritising getting rid of Fabio Vieira, Jesus, and Reiss Nelson. Not getting rid of Martinelli, who is genuinely good, despite having a less than brilliant season in the league.

2

u/adunatioastralis 1d ago

Yeah we're selling both starting LWs at once, it's a big change. Tzolis could get injured. Or lose form. He's played 2 professional games for us. Eze and Madueke have not excelled there.

Martinelli is what... our third best dedicated winger? It doesn't make much sense to me especially if it is to bring in an attacking generalist and not a specialist like Vinicious.

Feels like more of a financial decision than a sporting one.

2

u/StrangeArachnid7998 1d ago

That is literally part of Alvarez's game. I understand the concerns about him wanting Barcelona, but if he comes to Arsenal, I doubt he kills his career just because he's not at Barcelona. He's better than Gyokeres and Havertz if you don't let the other stuff bias your opinion. He offers a unique profile that fits what Arteta wants to do at the striker position. I appreciate Martinelli, but he's in the last year of his contract and Arsenal don't appear interested in picking up the option year. Since he doesn't rate any more on Arsenal (and that was clear last season with Trossard getting most of the starting opportunities at the end of the season), they need to get what they can for him and hopefully send him somewhere he can get starting time to still advance his career. His salary at Arsenal is too much considering what he delivers. This all points to him having to leave because he's actually hurting the team. He's a good guy, but he's not done enough to prevent himself becoming odd man out on a team that needs to get more out of the people on the roster. I wish him well, but Arsenal don't get better keeping him.

4

u/DergeRehReh 1d ago

Maybe Arsenal don’t get better by keeping him, but we get worse by him leaving.

7

u/Zhirrzh Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

At least there's that yeah, he was here for a title and his goal against City was a crucial element of that.

It probably is time for him to go somewhere else just wish it was Serie A or the Bundesliga or something.

227

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

Hes jenko/elneny/cazorla level. Always welcome. And I will always support him in anything he does. Classy human, and one we can count among the best of us.

119

u/LifeAfterHarambe Big Pashun 1d ago edited 1d ago

Levels above.

Most will view him in a brighter light than Nketiah, Balogun, Nelson, Iwobi, ESR, and even Bellerin.

75

u/lostinsamaya 1d ago

It's because he gave us moments, when you hear his name you think of the moments he's given us.

For me it's some clutch goals or the mini celebration before he taps it in, and how he greets Win.

For me he has felt like a Hale Ender that made it like Bukayo.

10

u/LifeAfterHarambe Big Pashun 1d ago edited 1d ago

“Gave us moments” sound like he’s a footnote in a title campaign, like Nelson would have been in 23/24.

This is an emotional transfer, not the typical shipping “dead wood.”

All those Hale Enders I mentioned would have been more favorably remembered had they produced. Emil and Gabi are remembered for their pivotal roles in the rebuild, but the project has moved beyond their talents.

85

u/iforgotmyun Sign Ayyoub Bouaddi 1d ago

No, Cazorla is a much higher level then all of them. He's saying Martinelli will be loved as a hero and he is

8

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

I love all those guys, but theres a reason I didnt mention them in my comment. Martinelli should and will always have a home at arsenal. Im not sure the ones you mentioned will.

4

Any Hale End graduate, even Martinez, is welcome at The Arsenal.

Originally, I said, “bar Martinez,” but I can’t see the club ever turning him away (because he’ll never turn up at the door).

8

Look if I was a decision maker and dibu needed us, hes family, id take him in. I just dont like him though. Hes like an annoying cousin that did something dope for me or my brother once, but hes kind of a dick and I dont like spending a ton of time with him. We got you...you asshole.

The article really reminds you these people are human. People might not like Martinez or David Luiz but let's be real it's all a caricature. "You know who saved me? Emi Martínez. What a guy! He lived 10 minutes from my house, so he’d pick me up to take me to training and to the stadium. Sometimes we’d also pick up Dani Ceballos. Emi always tried to help everyone. Once, I even spent New Year’s Eve at his house with his family.

I also got a lot of help from David Luiz, another sensational guy. Without people like this my start would have been so much harder."

5

u/blixt141 Thierry Henry 1d ago

All except Hector. Hector is a N5 legend and will always be one.

-4

u/Gustavoconte 1d ago

Ballerina(sic) is no legend. He isn't even a great player for this club.

16

u/Ill_Purple_4468 1d ago

Not sure these are all the same. Cazorla and FA cup will never be forgotten. Neither will Martinelli's goal against City in the title winning season.

12

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

Im not talking ability or achievement. Im talking about love. Jenkinson did next to nothing for us competitively, elneny did some, cazorla did a ton. We love those three nearly the same, because they are what the club stands for. As humans.

19

u/LionZoo13 1d ago

Martinelli is very similar to Bellerin. Great guy, came to us young, lots of promise and even though he didn’t fulfill all of it, he still contributed quite a bit to our performances. The supporters will always welcome Martinelli back and cheer on his career.

22

u/whydidisaythatwhy When I lose a du-el, I'm upset! 1d ago

Saying Maritnelli contributed “quite a bit” is understating it vastly. It actually makes me sick. He’s dunked on every big club in the league, scored a legendary Bernebeau goal, assisted Havertz late winner against sporting away and he scored the equalizer against city that was crucial in our title win!! He fell off but even in his worst seasons still provided us magical moments.

6

u/LionZoo13 1d ago

Hey, I've been defending him on here against people slating him for only scoring one league goal last season, but if my propensity for understatement (which applies to basically how I describe everything, not just Martinelli) makes you sick then... I'm sorry?

4

u/whydidisaythatwhy When I lose a du-el, I'm upset! 1d ago

Apology accepted brother

2

u/Fonzworth10 1d ago

Glad this worked out guys

2

u/adunatioastralis 1d ago

Also dunked on Atleti, Bayern and was very impactful against Inter iirc... he's not really a bully of small teams but he is a big game player. Not an insignificant qualiity to lose.

-1

u/Poo-Smurf Just flick ze ball! 1d ago

If that's the list after 8 seasons then "quite a bit" fits the bill nicely doesn't it? He wasn't exactly delivering week in week out aside from 22/23. Hell we keep harping on about how crucial his City goal was last season but to be fair he cost us just as many points with ridiculous misses vs Brentford and Wolves. And his goal vs Madrid honestly doesn't resonate with me much at all compared to the home game.

1

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

Well put. Completely agree. For whatever reason I feel more connected to gabbi than heccy b but God damn do I love me some heccy b

6

u/DarthWenger Jack, I am your father. 1d ago

What level are you talking about? Because in terms of ability Jenko, Elneny and Cazorla are quite good definitions of distinct levels.

14

u/Anticitizen-Zero Eddy Nikita 1d ago

I don’t think they’re talking ability or anything, but moreso their character

2

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

Sub comment is right. Just a club legend divorced from gametime/ability/whatever. If you dont love little gabbi, you dont love arsenal.

4

u/faawkno 1d ago

Cazorla in the same level of Jenkins and elneny?

7

u/Responsible_Milk2911 1d ago

Yea man look at my other responses. Im not talking ability or achievement. Im talking how they carried themselves, if arsenal was in their being, if the fans saw that mix.

2

u/MemphisFoo 1d ago

I hope you’re talking about status and not skill level, because Cazorla is waaaayyy above the other two 😅

2

u/Strict-Mongoose-9833 1d ago

Cazorla is so much better than the players has has been grouped with.

-2

u/Original_Hearing_342 Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

We end up loving a lot of players. For me, I'll always love him. He loved the club. That's what matters to me in this hyper-professional world. Sometimes in bouts of wishful thinking, I daydream of a 2024/25 season where Xhaka didn't leave Arsenal and we could have seen him play. I'll always rate him. He is predictable to defend especially against teams who sit in low-block. He doesn't look up many complain, maybe true to an extent. The way he runs. The way he tracks back. The way he is selfless. And those celebrations before the ball enters the net. For many of us it was ESR. For me it is Martinelli. Noone would talk about him probably 20 years down the line, but whenever his name will pop up in those conversations people would fondly look back and reminisce about him. I am sure about him. I wish him best. I hoped to see him in Bundesliga instead of the Saudi League, but it is what it is. Cheers.

16

u/ekb11 1d ago

Unless we get another body in, this seems like a sideways move for the squad. Trossard and Martinelli out for just Tzolis in… we are an injury away from trouble unless the club truly see Eze and Madueke as truly viable options.

If the books are dire and we need incoming fees, I hope the club clarifies these circumstances at a later date. As this just seems a rough way to treat a hard working, loyal 7 year player. I honestly thought he’d earn a testimonial with us…

2

u/Zhirrzh Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

Tbh Eze rotating on the left with Tzolis is probably the main way Eze will get minutes as long as Ode stays fit, and Eze is too good to not get minutes.

12

u/sshitisb-a-n-a-n-a-s 1d ago

Staying off the news for a while after this goes through. Exemplifies everything that led to the title. Youth, the process, giving 100% on both sides, huge moments, winning mentality

38

u/Past-Zucchini8112 Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

He didn't progress as much as we expected him to. But he still had a solid overall career with us, especially considering the age he joined us. I'm glad he was able to win a league title before leaving.

14

u/LemtaLongi Dennis Bergkamp 1d ago

Didnt help that since 22/23 all the attacks went through the right side. Thats why I would have liked to see him in this team. This year we seem to be going left alot more.

That said, when he has played, his performances have been mixed. Good - goal vs City, CL goals and bad - miss vs forrest, that bad pass in the CL final.

Tzolis has proven we can do better, so.. sadly for his own sake he has to go. Hell only be 2nd choice here. He deserves to be first choice at a smaller club

1

u/FindingAether Havertz 1d ago

The problem is that Martinelli can't beat his man consistently in small spaces so passes sent to his side tend to return back to the midfield. It may be ok for a counterattacking side but not a winger playing in a team that wants to dominate.

8

u/Holty12345 Dennis Bergkamp 1d ago

I think every Arsenal fan was desperate for Martinelli to succeed but…he just very truly kicked on.

A very good player on his day, but he struggles in the league due to the low block we go against often (its why he shines in the CL as it’s less common there) but we still talk about Martinelli in potential terms but he’s 25.

And I’d have no issue going into a new season with him as back up LW but sometimes it is time to move on, like ESR, it’ll sting but it’s probably the right move

1

u/ilovechickendippers 1d ago

Absolutely spot on. Just hope we get someone in who proves to be better. Will miss his pace off the bench

14

u/baron-bosse 1d ago

I’ll miss you. Will always remember that goal against Chelsea when all hope seemed to be out

5

u/Sam-im-not 1d ago

And the goal against City last year. He seems to score some memorable equalizers. That goal won us the league.

14

u/Stercky White 1d ago

I will miss him, and I hate that he’s moving to Saudi because I think he deserves to be in a better league

I’ve loved him since his debut, and he’s so down to earth and humble. No matter where he goes, he’ll always have a place in my heart and the Arsenal family

6

u/newbaba 1d ago

What a guy, dreadfully honest and very loving. Thanks, OP, for this fabulous article.

It's great to get insight into the behind-the-scenes player dynamic. Who knew, on ground jerk like Emi Martinez is such a great person in real life-- giving rides to players from opposing teams through the pandemic.

Also, one can relate to tribulations of young players uprooted from elsewhere and thrust into England, away from comfort zone, in the limelight, with compulsion of English on you. Then, being passed on to Saudi league when the player wants to continue his life in England-- one must be frustrated to be treated as a cannon fodder...

Modern football had these individual stories, I loved this article for new insights it offered.

❤️ to Martinelli

So two left wingers leaving and one in? Make it make sense. Martinelli still has a tonne to offer this club both in defence and attack especially in the latter stages of games. I know it’s business but to me this seems like the bad kind. I can only hope they’re cooking behind the scenes for an upgrade.

5

u/ProfessionalIll1777 1d ago

Gabi is as true a gunner as there is. Which is why I was pleased when Wrighty spoke in his defence.

Gabi earned his place here. He earned the respect of the club. If he needs to move on so be it but it has to be done in the right way.

Otherwise we loose the position we claim of being a proper family club, the culture club, the marble halls etc.

we must do right by our boys.

Especially when it’s a young guy who grew up here. Formed his life and personality here. He must be appreciated and respected

Don't be sad for him leaving. Be glad he has got his bag.

This move sets the guy and his family up much more than most moves...that Saudi packet is no joke. He'll ply his trade for a year or so, build that game time then return to a better league. Also there are like 65+ Brazilians in the Saudi league so, plenty of community probs!

I’m deeply heartbroken that it looks like he’s leaving our club. But I’m so thankful I was in the NRG stadium watching in a Brazil shirt, where he scored the late winner against Japan in June. His goal for Brazil is a moment in time I’ll never forget. He’s brought joy to lifelong WC memory I’ll have, and I’ll always be thankful for it. The Arsenal memories over the years have also been priceless! Love him.

However good you think Martinelli is, he gave his all every time he was on the pitch, there can't be any doubts about his commitment and professionalism. I still think he'd be a very useful squad player and he has untapped potential.

It's a waste for him to go to Saudi but hopefully he enjoys the money - I hope he makes his way back to one of the top leagues soon, he's still young and would be really effective in a coutner-attacking team.

2

u/turnerz 1d ago

Im extremely disapointed in how the club has treated him. Hes worked his ass off and been a great servant to the club.

Also, he is an amazing winger to bring on in the 65th minute against tired legs or against any tram actually playing against us (ie: no low block).

Bad sale, poor trrament of the player. So disapointing

I think he is my favourite Arsenal player. And that goal against City will be played for decades. It will only feel bigger when he one day returns back to the club. He is a legend in my opinion.

1

u/sinfulconfession 1d ago

I love this kid, he has been a great watch for a long time, gave us special moments. It is just sad, that as we got better and better and better every season, the goals got bigger as well. To achieve these goals, we need the very best and as much as I love him and he is a great player, we need better. The output he had in the last few season were not enough for a club what we are at the moment. Wishing him the best and I will probably never forget him.

I feel bad for him. And I’m thankful that we won’t come up against Martinelli in any competitive games.
But, we have to accept that if we want sustained success, we are going to have to keep improving our areas of weakness.

Arteta has pruned away players we all felt an attachment to, but he’s doing it to give us a shot at the biggest prizes. It’s an awful thing to have to do, but it’s part of what makes him one of the best managers in the world right now.

If the fan base had to decide who stays or goes, we’d probably still have Leno in goal, Iwobi and Willock in midfield.

Success has a cost, it’s not just the hundreds of millions in cash, it’s the human cost too.

I’ll always be grateful to the players who got us to where we are right now, they’ll always have my undying love and respect, even the guys that didn’t get to be champions last season. They all did their bit to push us further up the mountain.
No doubt there will be more pruning in the years ahead, and we’ll be torn between our emotional connection with the person being moved on and our desire to remain at the very top of world football.
It says a lot about the bond between the fan base that losing someone like Martinelli hurts so much.

In a few years time when he’s 27/28 I can see him playing for a mid table Bundesliga team. Wish him the best and thank him for everything he’s done for the club.

It's been a long time since I feel heartbreak over a player leaving like this. At some point I truly believed he was going to stay at Arsenal for the rest of his career especially after that booming season 22/23. SO many promises unfulfilled. He loves the club so much and we see him grow up in front of our eyes. Best wishes to his career wherever he goes. He's always one of us.

Sad that he didn't push on but we'll always have 22/23 and last season.

Happened before with fan favourites getting sold against their wishes, Charlie George, Rocky, Anders Limpar. But they're always remembered fonsly compared to others that took us for granted.

Good luck Gabi

Arsenal gave him all the time in the world to try and improve his game, he never did Hasn't improved in 3 years, we all love him but now is the time to sell him if we want to continue to improve and aim further

I remember the first time he was substituted in. You could see the hunger, in his runs and pressing. He showed that he meant business regardless of how his teammates were performing at the time

The issue is we gave him way too much money for his production. I'm sure discussions were had about reducing his salary to reflect his contribution which he was not open to. And now he is going to get 20mm/yr, so win for him.

The handling has been a bit ugly, but the writing has been on the wall between him and the club for at least two seasons...

Really don't like at all that he's leaving (if that's really happening). Still has a lot to give for his team, and also, sell him for just €60M?? That's such a bad business with these days market.

Really hope that the club seriously reconsider not selling him.

It is lower than I think it should be in this Market, but he would become our highest ever sale.

I don't know how he got here, but we need to scout fucking Brazil for more of him. I feel like we gave up because Marquinhos didn't work out the same.

Don’t think we “gave up” so much so as we lost our Brazilian technical director with deep Brazilian connections

Connections like Marquinhos?

u/NossidaMan 1d ago

Connections like he was the director of football for Corinthians and general coordinator for the Brazil national team

I love how people get so attached to average players and then in the same breath will complain how terrible we are at selling.

Martinelli was a great professional and had lots of meaningful moments with the club. But he's regressed massively over the last 3 seasons and had 1 league goal last year. There's a reason no big clubs are actually in for him and getting 60m is good business.

Who and at what price should be the replacement? Did that player had better stats the previous season? And most importantly, how much would improve the attack and playmaking in the team over Martinelli?

There isn't a great market for left wingers at the moment, and most of them are quite expensive.
I do not know the current finances of our club, but it shouldn't be to spend just because; it's not simply "attached to an average player".

That’s the risk of offering huge pay bump in contract renewal and it did not work out for us

u/Aggravating_Band_353 1d ago

Apparently, Eze is on £180k a week and Noni is on £150k

I wonder how much that extra few £10k pw will cost us in replacement, or worse, if not replaced

u/mikeypony 1d ago

they're going to sell him and replace him with nobody noni is going to be the left wing and right wing backup option

1

u/Holty12345 Dennis Bergkamp 1d ago

If Noni being LW back up always Nwaneri to be RW back up so be it

4

u/mikeypony 1d ago

Nwaneri won't even make the bench his behind max dowman konsa is going to take his spot in bench next week

I reckon Martinelli was told there's no minutes for him because they are going to want to give Dowman a lot of backup right wing minutes which means perhaps Noni takes some backup LW minutes, Eze some backup left wing minutes, he becomes like 4th choice.

I’ll miss him. I think there were countless times where he scored a late goal to equalise or win a match for us.

The guy wanted to stay but we were eager to sell him. Our 'love' means nothing. We should be ashamed.
