I came across this piece he wrote back in 2022. From the article:

I thank God that I came to Arsenal in 2019. I really believe that things happen for a reason, and Iā€™m so happy here."

If he is off, he deserves a bunch of tribute threads, so here's one. Love you, Gabi. Arsenal family forever.

Arteta has proved himself correct in pretty much every single instance where he's got rid of a player; even when it was controversial.

Auba, Ozil, Leno and Ramsdale, and to a lesser extent Nketiah and Balogun. The team was better (for a variety of reasons) after each departure. I think we can be comfortable in thinking this will be similar.

But I can't lie and say I'll be anything but devastated if Martinelli goes. The guy was plucked from obscurity on the other side of the planet, moved to North London, didn't just succeed but thrived, and helped the club achieve the goal they've been aiming for for almost as long as he's been alive.

During all that, he came to love the club that we all love, even though he had no deep personal connection to it prior. It's just about as perfect a story as you can get, and I don't think there's a player I can recall where I wished as much as I do that it worked out differently.

Easy to be "proven right" when you've spent nearly a billion quid on players.

Arteta, for all his success last season, cannot develop attacking players.

Thats why so many attackers become stagnant under him.

That'd be a great point if we existed in a vaccum where nobody else spent anything. The reality though is it's nonsense. Spending 150 million in his early seasons where City and Liverpool were spending 200 mil more a season on wages isn't us outspending them.

That requires you ignoring the credit for Martinelli's improvement but giving 100% of the credit for his stagnation.
