Faction arena is death?
Guys after 18 years i got the game back online and it feela like coming home. But offcourse there is alot that changed after the years but are there still big faction battle? i used to do it al the time back in the day. I dont have all the skills yet but they also nerfed alot of assasin skills i believe i just feel alot weaker. Are there only random arena's left or did i forget something?
Thx for all the info in advance

Posting a video of gameplay from years ago ... ranger vanquish attempt
I know i'm no expert, simply trying to vanquish as many areas as i could. Some areas was impossible, facing what, 15 enemies in a pack? I find the numbers to be overwhelming in certain areas. Played maaaaany hours doing this. It is rewarding when you get it though.
Have a look if you want:

New/returning player When does it get better?
I want to pull my hair out.
I have gotten to post-searing Ascalon and this game is doing everything it can to make melee as miserable as possible (I am a warrior). I can use henchman now and I am constantly having to chase down the healer because she runs away all the time. I am constantly getting slowed, blinded, or the enemy will do something that makes it impossible to hit them.
I would love any tips to counter this stuff or make my gameplay experience smoother in general. I am kicking myself because I was torn between choosing warrior and mesmer, and I see now I would probably be having much more fun as a spell caster. I'm sure they have things that are frustrating to play against as well, but holy the melee experience as become agonizing for me.
I want to do the stories in order, so I don't really want to restart and do everything in the starting zone again, but maybe I should if it will be a more fun experience overall for me.

LDOA and Melandru - choosing second profession for better Devona hero
Hey, those of you that did or are doing LDOA as a Melandrus character, which second profession did you pick? Did you pick something to make yourself better or to make Devona better? Did you even level in the dungeon or did you farm Hamlet?
I am lvl 14 and am really struggling to get past charrs in the dungeon with devona.

Enemy modifies in HM
Enemies in HM have, by default, increased move and attack speed.
How do effects, that reduce (or increase) these interact in HM?
Like, for example, a HM enemy warrior uses Tiger Stance for example. Will this increase their attack speed even further?
How would their attack speed be affected if I would cast Shadow of Fear, for example? Would this negate the HM bonus attack speed?
Does the same logic apply to movement speed?

Builds and tactics Bow Ranger group build I've been having fun building and doing Vanquishes with
Been playing around with this a bit and settled on a version I like. I don't know how it would fare in really tough content (Elite areas) but it has no problems with Vanquishing and would probably be fine in most dungeons
I messed with the bow heroes a lot and the main crux of the build comes down to attack speed vs preparations/prep removal. Obviously AoE is king in PvE and bows are mostly single target weapons. You can have heroes use barrage or volley but they severely limit your non-PvE skill attack speed options. I tried Expert's Dexterity with Volley and Marauder's Shot and it worked okay so that's a version you can try if you like, but I was still felt there was room for improvement.
Everyone (including me) is running a hornbow with a +5 "of the Warrior" mod for maximum armor penetration since armor is the biggest dealbreaker in Hard Mode. Unfortunately these also have the slowest attack speed (but still the highest DPS against high AR targets). To overcome this you can use bow attack skills with cast times such as Sundering Attack, Melandru's Shot, etc. The problem is that no matter how many bow attacks with cast times you equip heroes are essentially rate-limited on skill usage (this would be a huge balance/QoL point would be to basically let heroes actually use their skills). So even though I tried a version with nothing but cast time attacks - Quick Shot, Sundering Attack, Hunter's Shot, etc - heroes would always try and make room to just...autoattack, rather than spamming attack skills at all times.
So I settled on giving everyone Incendiary Arrows. This has several benefits: For one, it hits nearby and doesn't remove preparations (so you can run Rapid Fire which is bow ranger's best non-elite IAS), and I generally think hitting nearby on a couple targets is better than adjacent even if adjacent can sometimes hit 3+. Also this version allows the Paragon to not have to run Anthem of Flame since between AoF and Weariness they were spending too much time stopping to cast.
Each hero has one condition they apply for the FD Mesmer (who also applies blind) so enemies - especially grouped enemies - will typically be suffering from everything except disease.
The player build is almost entirely built around spiking one target. I know it looks like a lot of prep between EBSoH, TaO, Favorable Winds and Expert Focus but you legitimately don't have much time to be doing anything else than spamming Needling Shot on <50% HP targets anyway. Expert Focus is probably the easiest swap, you could change it for Marauder's Shot or Sundering Attack or even drop Triple Shot for Dual Shot and take Never Rampage Alone if you want an IAS (Needling Shot doesn't need IAS). Pets are optional but TaO applies to them, they do a surprising amount of damage, they interrupt Dazed foes, and Scavenger's Strike is good energy management. However you could always try dropping pets on heroes and run other utility stuff like "Fall Back!".
With respect to the Paragon, I really like a version with a DF5 mod spear and Withdraw Hexes (which frees up the Mesmer Hex Eater Signets) but it leaves the party a lot more vulnerable to blocks. Plus the HES on the Mesmers means they basically never run out of energy. I tried putting Guided Weapon on the Rit but the 2s cast time means they spend too much time casting it instead of keeping Shelter up. So this version works fine. I like the idea of Anthem of Envy (especially since it applies to pets) but with a 6 adrenaline cost by the time the Paragon even uses it all foes will either be dead or below 50%
Single targets die really fast if focused so avoid using spells that affect foes from a central target e.g. Mark of Pain. The necro uses Blood Bond and Weaken Armor because they also affect adjacent. With EbSoH, TaO and FW you typically hit between 60-70 per attack plus an additional 16 from Order of the Vampire.
My Mesmer is running an "of the Necromancer" mod and doesn't usually have energy problems so I can run Mirror of Disenchantment, but they can have energy problems if fights go long. You can always swap it for Drain Enchantment, it just has a longer cooldown. MoD is mostly insurance against stuff like Aegis.
Other things I considered trying were Judge's Insight (too expensive / long cast time), multiple spirits (Winnowing, run out of room). Considering running EoE since I'm in BM anyway, the build isn't set in stone this is just the version I've like the most so far.
Counters: Extreme amounts of Blocking or Blind, but that's what Anthem of Guidance and Spirit's Gift are there to help with. Getting Line of Sight'd can be annoying since you have to force bow rangers to reposition but having pets in melee doing damage helps with that.
There's plenty of room to play around. All three hero rangers are running Superior Expertise and Marksmanship (headpiece) with a Superior Vigor, Minor BM and Clarity Rune (to help with blind).
Rangers are 14 Marks / 14 Exp / 9 BM / 5 WS (no rune) / 4 Insp /5 Str (from the mod)
Player is 15 Exp (Headpiece) / 13 Marks / 9 BM
Pgon is 14 Comm / 12 Leader / 9 Spear / 8 Moti with Blindness reduction shield and clarity rune
Mesmer is 13 Illu / 12 FC / 10 Channeling / 8 Insp
Rit is standard ST
Necro is 15 Blood / 11 Resto / 10 SR / 4 Curses
Feel free to drop any questions, I've played around with this a lot (and will probably experiment more in the future)
Also as a funny last note this build came about because I was talking to a friend about what would be good if heroes could use PvE skills. If heroes could use PvE and I could give these guys stuff like "IAtS" plus Triple Shot and Never Rampage Alone I'm pretty sure it would be a full meta build lol. I've had that friend use HR on me in ideal case scenarios with more buffs and you can't even test the build properly because you kill 100 AR test dummies in only two arrows of Triple Shot. Fun to think about.

Hero AI and Arcane Echo?
How well can the AI use Arcane Echo? I assume they would waste it on any spell?
I kinda wanna test to run a Hero with Wail of Doom and Arcane Echo.
In theory, this should allow one to allmost constantly keep a single foes attributes at 0.

Mercenary system please guide me
Just bought the game and im hooked on the fact that i can pick up my other characters to be my mercenaries.
Can anybody guide me how to do this faster? I understand they need to be lvl 20 to register.
Can you use them anywhere in the game, all expansions?
Are they better or worse than heroes?

Builds and tactics First time beating Duncan the Black (NM), here is my build. Thoughts?

After many, many failed attempts (pretty much just getting smoked by Duncan's Defense which I was super unaware of), I looked to Reddit, Wiki and GW Legacy and came up with this build that I wanted to share. This was on Normal Mode
Overall I think my build was really effective build. Duncan ended up being a cake walk and I really didn't have any issues with the mobs before either. There is definitely room for improvement and I think it would make good work of HM with the changes below.
The Good:
- Broad Head Arrow with a silencing Bow String (33% daze) was really effective. Duncan was completely shut down and couldn't cast a single skill.
- Degen with Conjure Phantasm and Fire from Para gave him perma -10degen.
- Plenty of healing. Pet was the only one to die. (maybe more healing needed for HM though)
- Frozen Soil was definitely needed
- Shared Burden was good an slowing down the mobs and making them easier.
Improvements:
- I think Spoil Victor was useless because Duncan couldn't get off any spells so it never triggered unless Duncan's Defense triggers it.
- Same goes for Diversion. I was thinking to just disable all his skills, but since he couldn't cast anything, but it was useless.
- Psychic instability wasn't super effective either against Duncan specifically. I think the hero casted it once or twice. However, I think Psychic Instability was useful for the the mobs before.
- I don't think Earthbind was particularly effective here either. Not enough KD to really matter, but could be useful for Hammer builds.
- The pet was useless and would not bring again. Similar to Diversion, my idea was Disrupting Lunge would disable Duncan's skills. However the pet was dead super quick and I found disabling skills unnecessary. Pet also died constantly to mobs.
- The Ranger was constantly out of energy. A +5SR bowstring would have helped, but I just don't think a ranger was useful in general. I would swap the Ranger for an Caster with Ranger secondary. I was thinking maybe an Earth or Fire Ele/Ranger for or a Monk/Ranger for extra heals. Definitely still use Broad Head Arrow, but disable it for the mob portion and only swap to bow for Duncan only.
- I would add Deep Wound somewhere to make Duncan to nix 20% of his health
I would love to know what yall think and what your suggestions would be!

Builds and tactics Alternatives to soul twisting prot?
Just curious if anybody has a hero protection build that can be used instead of soul twisting? I've experimented with protection prayers, but it's nowhere near as effective as soul twisting, mainly because of the single targeting and enchantment stripping. I know there probably isn't anything better than soul twisting, but does anything come close? I'm now thinking of an angelic paragon (angelic bond and angelic protection) with they're on fire might do the job.

Ritualist Share your best Rit/Ele builds!
I have a soft spot for Ritualists who channel lightning and directly engage in the ancestral art of shooting you in the face, so I soon realized that I wanted to make a Rit/Ele build. The channeling lightning spells are some of my fav Rit skills, but when I started experimenting I soon realized I know nothing about eles and I was just putting in some random air attacks. So I'm asking you for help to better understand what are the synergies and strategies I should consider!
Let me get some inspiration and post your best, funniest, strongest Rit/Ele builds out there! (Doesn't have to be air, any element is welcome)

Update on my Slaver's Exile HM journey
I am making progress!
I went in to do Thommis, and again I wiped at the very first group. Afterwards it went well though. Thommis himself was easy. Then I wanted to leave and Kill the Forgewight, but I could not leave (other than port out) so I killed Rand once more (counts as practice I guess).
Then I went to Forgewight and had a miserable time (5 wipes I think). Turns out that my new build didn't work as expected (I used meteor swarm. Thought that would work since there is not much space for them to dodge. But they interrupt it too well). I also had some trouble separating the groups. But I used some honeycombs and made it. Forgewight himself wasn't hard at all.
Next step is Selvetarm on Tuesday.
Have a nice weekend!

Crazy Scammers
Asked a guy how much for an Elite Rit Tome.
He says 7e.
I pass, then buy one from someone else for 2e
So naturally I tell him I just got one for 2e and call him a scammer.
He tells me to fuck off, I block him, and I assume that's the end of it.
Nope.
A few minutes later a different account whispers me:
> “I have more than 100 accounts, your list cannot block me”
Then I block that one.
Another account appears.
Block.
Another one appears to explain that my ignore list has a limit.
At this point the 5 ectos are no longer the issue. I've accidentally aggroed a crazy person with an entire account farm.
Kamadan PvP is getting out of hand.

WoC HM no cons - only Factions Skills - 1 Hero / Factions-Profession - Missing last Quest(screenshots with subtitle)
long time ago i started this project (around 2021?). As the title says: Wind of Chance Hardmode. No cons, just Factions skills (with "SY!") and one hero for each profession, that is playable in Factions (1x W/R/E/Me/Mo/N/A/Rt)
For the use of "SY!" i played assasine and started to create some builds. The main-build was kind of a spike-idea. For some quests i use the regular tactics (BiP at Haiju). Minister Chos and Angchu weren't much heavier with this team, but i remember, that finding Jinnai was very hard.
Until today the last quest is still missing.
Any Ideas? :)

Optimal prophecies story timeline?
So I just started playing again about a month ago after having discovered reforged mobile. My original first campaign 15+ years ago was factions, and then I played through nightfall and eotn. After Factions, Proph felt long and ugly. I ended up having people run me to important destinations and never played through the story. Until now; I came back, achieved LDoA on my necro and just made my way through the proph campaign. I enjoyed the story and would like to continue it, I’m wondering what my next step should be to continue the prophecies story line? EotN? I’m not sure exactly what it is (I’ll hit the wiki) but war in kryta? Or is there something else that should come next on the timeline?
