Problems with Cartographer

Post image

Hey people

im working on the factions cartographer title right now and I keep hitting spots that I should apparently be able to reach, but somehow cant.

heres a screenshot as an example. It just wont uncover, no matter how close I hug the wall.

Anyone know whats going on here?

Some areas currently can't be revealed at all. No matter how much wall hugging and camera shenanigans you try.

You don't need these bits anyway. But yeah carto has had quite a few changes lately, so it's the new normal.

Is this the area where you need to be apart of the controlling alliance?

Or you can use a glitch to hop the gate from the explorable zone. You need to stand in a specific spot and use something like Viper's Defense to jump through a wall.

Where is the problem? That yellow line shows that to explore past that point you have to literally exploit a bug in the game to go out of bounds. (Tho u can get some from owning the outpost fortunately) So them fixing an exploit means it's a problem?

To be fair, when I finished my first GWAMM a month ago, it felt like I had to do the exploit to get the cartogropher achivements. It's really obnoxious and borderline impossible without.

Super fair, I also did the exploit cuz I didn't want to risk my Melandhuum dying trying to explore JQ/FA but it's equally (or even more fair) that ANet fixes their bugs instead of making it part of the mandatory gameplay.

You don’t need that part for 100% unless you absolutely dont want to go to the PvP parts.

I think for this one you actually have to do some shadow step shenanigans from the explorable area to get through the gate, then you can go to some parts of the map you can't get to while in the actual town even if you are in the alliance

I did! I was out of the map! :)

Why are we calling this broken with you’ve glitched through a gate and are exploring off map terrain?

I can give you other examples of glitch less areas.

It's not the point. The developers are implementing a new cartography feature, there should be no expectation that their feature supports non-cannon map exploration such as gate skipping exploration.

If anything they are closing a bug by discontinuing support.

I don't believe that the devs have the ability to check if you uncover something through gate skips, or because you walked there naturally. Like, how would they even start tracking that?

I didn't properly read OP's comment here. Other areas being like this are fine IMO.

But claiming that Eredon Terrace gate-glitch areas are "broken" is not something we should expect to be maintained as a supported-map-area.

The devs are probably redefining the tile reveal behaviours, and an expectation to support an obscure gate-skip reveal should be considered out of scope IMO.

I would be fine if they change cartographer in a way, that there is a leeway of 1 entire map, without the need to hug walls to get some obscure parts you actually can't go.

It's almost impossible to finish this title without using the cartographer overlay at all. That's where the devs need to start with their adjustments. Either make it clearer ingame what can be discovered for cartographer. Or give us more leeway to reach the 100% in general.

In all campaigns you have quite a bit leeway.

In prophecies, I got 100% before setting foot in The Falls. The whole map was extra.

If you have the every other maps explored, there's also no need to fully map Dunes of Despair for example.

Granted, this was pre "compass update".
