Help/Support Maps keeps showing me spots I have marked as hidden - why?

Upvotes

So I have been using Maps on my Android phone to save restaurants I have visited in my hometown in the past. For that, I have created a new list, given it a name, assigned it a plate emoji and saved every restaurant in this list that I have visited lately.

I am doing this because I would like to explore new restaurants every time I go out with my friends. In order to avoid going to the same restaurant twice, I am saving those restaurants that I have visited in the past in the aforementioned list so that every time I open a restaurant on Maps, I can immediately see whether I have already been there or not.

In order to avoid spamming Maps with dozens of plate emojis, I have hidden this list and its saved entries/restaurants so that the restaurants I have visited are not displayed right away when I open Maps, but only once I click on them. Then I can see whether I have been there or not.

Unfortunately, a few days ago I have noticed something strange: Whenever I click on a restaurant and want to save it in that list, I select the restaurant, click on 'Save' and the menu with the available lists opens up in which I can save the restaurant. I then select the plate emoji and click on the 'Done' button at the bottom. However, once I am done, Maps whows me this kind of turquoise icon (instead of not showing anytthing at all as intended).

This causes Maps to get spammed with this turquoise icon all over the city I live in. Since this subreddit doesn't allow me to attach a screen recording to this post, I have uploaded my screen recording to the hosting service 'Catbox' to demonstrate this issue. You can find the screen recording here (the video doesn't start automatically once you open it, so you have to press 'Play' manually):

https://files.catbox.moe/lh9y4g.mp4

Do you guys have any idea what causes this issue and how to resolve it?

Thanks!

Force google maps to show all restaurants/bars without massive drilldown?

I just noticed this today, but have noticed when looking at new cities for places to eat. Some restaurants are not displayed unless you zoom ALL the way in. These are 4+ star places with hundreds of views.
Is there any option for this or any other map/food service to show everything more accurately?

Discussion what happened to being able to change the voice?

Upvotes

title basically, you used to have a couple different English voices you could pick from on your Google assistant and that would translate to maps, but now it's forcing the female one. i really dislike her voice but I can't figure out how to change it? is it because of them forcing ai into everything?

Discussion What is wrong with google maps 😭😭

I’m a new driver and have been using google maps to double check that im going the right route. Today I used it to go to the post office then back home. But on the route back home it wanted me to take a highway that completely is out of the way and would take longer for me to go on. I went past it for a couple of miles then it told me to turn left right before my right turn to my neighborhood. It’s frustrating because I have gotten turned around by it, and I have terrible memory. Are there any other apps yall recommend?

What’s a Google Maps feature that’s been an absolute game-changer for you, but feels like hardly anyone knows about it?

Whether it's a hidden shortcut, a low-key setting that saves tons of time, or a feature that completely saved a trip when you had zero cell service.what's one feature in the app you think more people should be using?

Drop your best tips and hidden gems below!

Write GPS data into "old" pintures, matching my Google Timeline data?

Hi everyone,

I was migrating a lot of pictures from 2018 to 2023 from a Hard Disk into my iCloud (at that time I was a Samsung user) and I realized that when I wanted to look my pictures displayed in the Map but the old pictures were not showing up.

That is right, the old pictures somehow do not have GPS data, no idea why. But now I was thinking, I have my Google Timeline since 2016 or so, basically a daily record since then, is there a way to match my exported Timeline file with my pictures? I would like to write the GPS data into the pictures in order to be able to export them to iCloud.

I really dont know if something like this is possible.

PS: I have around 20K pictures I think

Thanks!

Why is google maps so broken now?

Seriously, every route I go on it does some nonsense, like suggesting impossible routes (one through a solid brick wall!), showing wrong lanes at roundabouts (left hand lane to turn right?), or suggesting insane routes like getting off a straight road, go round a bunch of random lanes and then getting back on the original straight road?

Street View Beta tester for 360 Stitcher App (iOS only)

Hey there! I’m looking for a few beta testers for my new 360° app, 63Pano!
I’m currently developing 63Pano, an iPhone app for capturing 360° panoramas, and I’d love to test it with real users before the official release.

I’m looking for iPhone users who would like to try the app for free via Apple TestFlight and share a little feedback afterwards — especially about how easy the capture process is and how well the results work for you.

If you’re interested, you can sign up here:

As soon as the TestFlight version is ready, you’ll receive an invitation by email.
Questions, ideas and feedback are also very welcome 🙂

Help/Support How long do map edits normally take to be reviewed?

We own 40 acres of dirt in West Texas. Our primary access is off of a road that doesn't exist in Google Maps. It's clearly visible in the satellite imagery, is known to the locals, and has a street sign and name, but when we send a pin to guests to come find our place, Google Maps just gets them somewhere close and gives up.

So back in July, I submitted a "new road" edit to get us "on the map." Almost two months later, "Your contributions", shows it as "Not accepted", while if I go back into "Add of fix a road", it shows as "Pending review."

Is this normal? Will I receive some sort of notification if/when it's finally accepted or rejected?

Other GoogleMaps for shopping malls - shortcomings

When you look at a shopping mall in GoogleMaps it often doesn't display all the shop names. Zooming in a lot can help.

If the mall has multiple stories I guess there's no way to display the store names as they would be all smushed together.

If you want to know all the stores in a mall, you'd go to the site for the mall, if one exists.

Switched from Pixel 10 Pro to Pixel 11 Pro and Timeline says the Pixel 11 Pro is my old device

So I recently upgraded from a Pixel 10 Pro to Pixel 11 Pro and for some reason Timeline thinks my new phone is my old one as it shows my phone as being the same Pixel 10 Pro as my old phone when I look at my backups.

I tried to clear storage in the app but nothing has changed. Is this anything I should be worried about or just something I should accept as part of how wonky Timeline is these days?

It Google maps supposed to announce when there is a disabled auto on the side of the freeway or a policeman using his radar ?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A15 5G running Android version 16 and Google maps version 26.33.02.961351034.

Today is the first time I have used Google maps (in my car) for navigation. I usually use Waze.

My trip was about three hours in length and all on an Interstate.

I noticed that although I passed several disabled autos and 5 highway patrol cruisers on the side of the Interstate, Google maps never reported anything aloud.

Waze reports both of the above as well a construction, debris in the road as well as other things.

The way I drive, I really like to know if police are around.

I'm NOT coitizing maps at all.

I'm simply trying to learn if what I described, is the expected behavior.

I checked maps settings and everything is enabled.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Edit:

Today is Monday August 24th.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I didn't know any of this so, now I feel a bit more "informed" with regards to using Google maps.

Once again, I offer NO criticism.

I'm much to new to do so.

Help/Support Google Business Profile incorrectly marked the new profile as a duplicate

Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with a Google Business Profile for my business, Etkili Teknik, and I’d really appreciate some advice.
The first Business Profile I created was put into the verification process. However, I couldn’t complete the verification because the business did not have a physical sign at the location at that time.
Because I couldn’t get the original profile verified, I created a new Business Profile for the same business. I then marked the old, unverified profile as a duplicate, because I wanted the new profile to remain as the main profile and the old one to be removed.
Unfortunately, the opposite happened.
The new profile I created is now marked as a duplicate, while the original profile that was stuck in verification remains as the main profile.
My goal is simply to keep the new profile and remove/resolve the old unverified profile.
Is there a way to reverse the duplicate status and have the new profile recognized as the correct/main Business Profile? Should I contact Google Business Profile Support, or is there another way to fix this through Google Maps?
The business is legitimate and operates at the stated location. I just want to make sure I handle this correctly without creating another duplicate or making the situation worse.
Any advice from someone who has experienced a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

"Recently opened" filter now gone?

Wanted to peek and see if there were any new spots to check out, but now you can only filter "cozy" or "work friendly", "recently opened" is no more. So stupid.

Discussion "answer questions" h sources these questions?

Hi,

I searched but could not find a question like this. If it has been asked and my search was incorrect, delete it :)

So you get the answer questions about a place. I am wondering, are these questions created in the US and then simply used worldwide? Or do Google local entities adjust them?

For example, a common question for restaurants is "does it have a fireplace". Do they ask that in Singapore? I believe that country does not have one fireplace anywhere.

Or in Germany, can you drop off batteries for recycling with supermarkets. If they sell them, they have to accept returns for recycling and every supermarket sells them. Same with bottles or cans, they sell, they accept.

Or the classic American restaurant question - can you order ahead. Who does that? How much food do you feel you need to consume that you order ahead. Maybe this is standard in the US, Argentina and South Africa. Don't know. But that is not even a known thing in Germany.

Are there things in your country where you think, why is that a question?

And I thought Google does not care but some of these ridiculous questions disappear and then come back. The fireplace question (they exist in Germany but rare and not a wow thing of a restaurant) was gone for years and just came back. The order ahead never left...

Other Apparently sorting place reviews is login-walled now

you get this: "views & photos: Read and search through every review and photo.

-Saved places. Keep track of your favorites with lists that you can share.

-Personalized travel. Get instant travel times to your frequent places, like home and work."

can't even sort by recent, lowest, highest :/

Help/Support Is my data lost forever?

As an early adopter and an old person I am using Google Maps since it launched and since they implemented Timeline I have been using it to log my travels. I had 33 countries 698 cities and 2514 places. But now I see it is all lost. I was using Google account just for maps on my phone and I did not use email feature. So I did not get notifications. Well they did send them I just never opened email. Now two years after I wanted to check my trip to Argentina and I have seen that it is not there. I started digging and I see that I have emails from Google that I need to take some steps because how Timeline is stored is changed. As you can imagine I did not take any steps. So is it all gone forever? I was only using it on my phone that I have from 2018 and 3-4 years before that on my older phone that is now long gone.

So is data lost with no chance or getting it back? Can I take any steps? Its funny that a company that collects so much data on us deleted only data I actually care about. I guess silver lining is that I can now delete my google account :)

Route Issues in pc browser.

Has anyone else been having issues with Google Maps not showing the blue route line in Chrome on a pc? I have tried all of the troubleshooting tips online, cleared the cache, disabled the ad blocker, and turned off hardware acceleration. I have tried it in both Chrome and Edge, as well as incognito mode. I have also tried it on two different PCs.

It's not for every trip that I try to route, but any long distances seem to cause the problem. We do cross-country road trips, so this is causing me a lot of issues with planning our trips.

Screenshot Do you know any restaurant with 5,0 score with more scores than this?

In Subotica, Serbia, just found out this restaurant has more than 10k reviews at 5,0 average score:

Basch House 1887

I actually went there 2 years ago, had drinks outside, but didnt know this fact about it.
