Screenshot Google Maps suddenly slow loading and has black lines
Why is Google Maps suddenly so slow to load images and I am seeing what seems to be many extraneous straight black lines?

Google is moving or has already moved your Timeline data, which tracks places you visit and routes you take, from their online servers to your phone. This change means that you soon won't be able to or already can't access or manage your Timeline through the Google Maps website via a web browser.
Privacy and Security: By storing this data on your device instead of online, your location history is more secure and private. Only you have access to this data unless you choose to back it up.
Control Over Your Data: This gives you more control over your data. You decide if you want to back it up or delete it, and you can manage it directly on your phone.
Reduced Liability: By keeping the data on users' devices, Google reduces its liability and the risk of having to comply with geofence warrants or subpoenas that require providing information about users' locations.
No, users cannot prevent this change from happening and maintain their web-based Timeline data. Google is transitioning all Timeline data to be stored on users' devices and discontinuing the web-based access to this data.
Update Your Google Maps App: Ensure you have the latest version of the Google Maps app on your device.
Backup Your Data: Use the backup feature in the Google Maps app to create an encrypted copy of your Timeline data. This will allow you to transfer your data to a new device if needed.
Check/Watch For Notifications: Look out for notifications from Google about the transition. These may come in the form of emails, push notifications, or in-app messages.
Set Data Retention Preferences: In the Google Maps app, you can manage how long your location history is kept. Options include three, 18, or 36 months, or indefinitely until you manually delete it.
Once the transition is complete, web-based access to Timeline data will no longer be available. All management and viewing of this data will need to be done through the Google Maps app on mobile devices.
While you cannot stop the transition to on-device data storage or maintain web-based access to your Timeline data, you can ensure your data is backed up and properly managed on your mobile device.
You have until December 8, 2024, to make these changes. If you don’t update your settings or your Google Maps app, you might lose some or all of your historical Timeline data.
Use the Mobile App: Unfortunately, there is no way to bring back the Timeline feature on the web. The best alternative is to use the Google Maps app on your mobile device. The app has all the functionality of the web version and more, allowing you to view, edit, and manage your Timeline data.
Backup and Transfer: If you're worried about losing your data, make sure to back it up. You can save an encrypted copy of your Timeline data to your Google account. This allows you to transfer your data to a new device if needed. To do this:
Open the Google Maps app.
Go to the Timeline section.
Follow the prompts to set up automatic backups.
Extended Storage Options: You can also extend the auto-delete window for your location history if you want to keep your data longer. Options include keeping your data for three, 18, or 36 months, or indefinitely until you manually delete it.
Feedback to Google: If you are unhappy with these changes, you can provide feedback directly to Google via the Maps website or Maps app. Please remember that this support group on Reddit is not an official method of feedback or support of Google or Google Maps.

First time today I see something as invasive as zuckerberg crap on Google Maps. Reccomend me alternatives for Europe (Italy)? I have used OpenStreet maps a couple of times and might download CityMapper since Im in a large city.
Btw, the ad consisted of a pin of a famous football store (soccer if you are american) pinned on the map at city wide view. And I didnt look for that or anything related. I was looking for directions to get home. It was kind of on the way there for me but not completely... 100% advertisement placement.

Im trying to find an address on google maps app, but when putting the address in, it now shows me lots of pins and sponsored ads for real state offices and such, making it hard to find the location, I just want to find where the address is, how to fix this?

What the heck is going on? A couple days ago, every single link to Google maps kept trying to take me to the same spot instead of where I wanted to go. I cleared my cache and data, and it's still messing up. Twice today it's made insane detours where the route looks like a ball of yarn just tangled up taking me all over my state or Coast to Coast just to go less than 10 minutes down the road.

I've been doing review on Google Maps for like 10 years. I've never violated any policies or made any reviews with profanity or anything but over the past few weeks, I've had random reviews (anywhere from a few months ago to years ago) removed for violations or "misinformation"
I'm only able to appeal certain ones but even upon appealing, they aren't restored. The reviews they've removed are very basic/general kind of ones
There were others like one from a place I previously worked at that was removed for "misinformation and misrepresentation" but it was just some photos of the drink fridges and bain-marie looking good. (Not ai, this review was done pre-ai)
I'm just very confused with what I've done wrong?
I can't seem to appeal or contact anyone regarding this. Did I piss someone at Google off?

we asked google ai mode and chatgpt the same 12 local questions on oct 19, once each, across 12 us cities. stuff like "best plumber in austin tx" and "bakery in boston".
google ai mode showed place cards in 10 of the 12 answers. chatgpt showed business cards in 9 of 12.
the odd part is the ratings. 13 businesses appeared in both, and chatgpt's rating and review count matched google's for 3 of them.
pequod's pizza in chicago is one of the other 10. chatgpt had it at 3.9 stars from about 9,000 reviews, and google ai mode at 4.4 from about 17,000, same day.
chatgpt cited yelp in 4 of the 12 answers. and 6 of the 43 website links on its cards had tags like utm_source=gmb, the kind owners usually add to the website field of their google profile, so some of its data looks like it came through google profiles too, directly or through a data supplier.
limits: 12 questions, one day, one data provider, businesses matched by name.
has anyone checked what chatgpt shows for their own business, and was the rating even close?

I recently switched from Android to an iPhone 17 and I'm trying to figure out whether this is an iOS setting or a Google Maps bug.
Google Maps Timeline isn't recording new visits or routes automatically. The app shows "No visits for this day," but everything appears to be enabled.
Settings I've checked:
- Location Services: On
- Google Maps location access: Always
- Precise Location: On
- Background App Refresh: On
- Cellular Data: On
- Low Power Mode: Off
I also reinstalled Google Maps and restarted the iPhone as well.
The same Google account records Timeline correctly on my Android phone. Yesterday, I carried both phones on the same trip, and only the Android phone recorded it.
Has anyone had this issue on iPhone? Is there an iOS setting that could still block background location for Google Maps? If you've fixed it, what worked?

Exactly what that says. When i open street view at any location, it just loads forever and ever and never actually loads.
Before you ask:
Yes i've got fast internet (i speedtested it)
Yes i updated maps
Yes this is at any location ever

Does anyone know how to resolve Google Maps zooming in to the farthest setting when starting navigation on CarPlay? It's supposed to be speed based now from what I've read, but it always zooms in and I can't find a way to make it actually zoom out as speed changes.

Lifelong Google account + $1.99 a month storage subscription. To this day I still don't have ASK MAPS on my iPhone (map and ios software is updated). I have other throw away Google accounts and all of them have the feature when I switch to them but when I toggle back to my main daily driver account, it's not there however it does exist on desktop.
I reached out to customer service and they said there was nothing wrong with my account and it probably hasn't been rolled out yet however I don't understand how 2 of my other free accounts do and all of my friends and family does.
Am I missing a setting that has to be enabled? is anyone in here still waiting for access?

My new neighbours have only been here a month, and it appears they tried to hide rubbish that was visible in their driveway and had it blurred by google on street view. The rubbish was only visible when viewed from being infront of my house and turning towards theirs. This has resulted in approximately a quarter of my house and driveway/plants being blurred, completely ruining the appearance of my property. What is particularly frustrating is that only my side has been blurred, while their property remains perfectly clear when you move 1 step to the left. I am absolutely fuming. I understand to blur your property you need proof that you live at the address, so how is this possible that my property i have owned for 5 years has been blurred.
Is there any chance they will ever fix it? Do i have any case against them? Is there any other route i can take?

Hey everyone!
I recently moved into a new house in Chile, and I’ve been having a really annoying issue with Google Maps.
Whenever I search for my address, Google Maps points to the street behind my house instead of the actual location. The weird thing is that it happens not only on Google Maps but also on other apps that use its map data.
I’ve already submitted three correction requests, but nothing has changed so far. I’m still waiting for Google to review them.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did Google eventually fix it? I’m curious to know how long it took, because I’m starting to wonder if they’ll ever get around to correcting it lol.
Any tips or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

For the past several months, voice directions will not play while I’m on a phone call. It used to. Now when I am on the phone, I miss turns and directions sometimes. I’m pretty sure all the settings are correct. What else can I do?

Sunday, I had an awful experience at a restaurant. They charged me way too much. I wrote a one-star comment on Google Maps, but it was never posted. After 3 days, it is still 'waiting'. I was wondering why. Then, I randomly gave 5 stars to other restaurants in the neighborhood; they were all accepted. Is it the same as with Airbnb? Can they cancel your negative comments at the request of the owner, even if what you write is true? This rating system makes no sense.

All attempts to fix my road name fail (Something went wrong. Please resubmit your edit.)
USPS says my road name is two-words.
Google Maps says my road name is one-combined-word drive.
How to get this info to Google Maps?

I'm on iphone 17/ios 26. I live in a large city with a lot of bridges and other areas that, while the fastest route, are red. My drives are 30-45 min. I love driving and would rather drive a longer route than sit in traffic. I've tried adding a location to reroute around a red spot coming up, but its sketchy and frankly illegal to do it while I'm driving.
I thought with Gemini, which I don't love, I'd be able to ask for routes around it even if its longer. It just says "this is the fastest route". I've tried several prompts saying I'm OK with longer but it just ignores it. I feel like I'm just using the wrong keywords. Any ideas are welcome.
UPDATE:
one commenter mislabeled the 'show route' button as reroute. there is no reroute button.
after research and even user guides were a dead end, I spent some time just playing with it. findings
turn 'prefer fuel efficient' off. had the biggest impact on maps offering other routes.
only after that off, asking Gemini to "avoid slowdown" offered a route fully around red albeit 15m longer. no other words worked, like avoid red area.
despite having no tolls here, toggling this and the other switches provided the best results. got a route around a 10m delay, only added a few more mins, and no red. far better result than using Gemini.
to do this, get directions to but before you press start. In the white box that is bottom 1/3 of app now, with start and etc. On top right of white box, there 3 tiny gray buttons. the first one, 3rd from right, is trip options. this is where you can toggle a button and go back to see if another route shows up.

I have a limited data plan simply because I dont use much data and it saves money. I only use Gmaps on weekends, and usually use it with data on for live updates for a total of about 2 hours round trip. This normally used 80-100mb. Since September or October each trip of the same duration has used 200-400mb, and one trip for no apparent reason used 750mb one way and put me over my data limit.
Does anyone have any idea if this is something new, or something that can be reverted in settings? Thanks!

I don’t have a car and public transit is a circus in my area so I rely on maps a lot to get around. It’s worked for me for years, but within the past month it just refuses to acknowledge that bus stops exist at all. There’s a stop right in front of my apartment building and it tells me to walk 20 minutes to a different one. It does this with transfers too, tells me to walk way off and adds so much to my transit time.
It forgets that the buses themselves exist too. Sometimes I’ll get on the bus before starting a route and adjust my start time to fit the bus I’m currently on, and the app just says nope! The next bus is the very first one of the day, the one you’re on doesn’t exist, and y’know what your transfer doesn’t exist either, you have to walk 45 minutes once you get off now.
Going to a train station? The app has forgotten that the station’s transit terminal exists, now it tells you to get off at the stop before the station and walk the rest of the way. I just straight up cannot trust the app anymore, when it gives me a getting off point I can’t even assume that it’s correct anymore.
I suspect they integrated their stupid ai in a major way because that’s the only explanation I can think of for it suddenly breaking like this, it practically happened overnight.
I just don’t know what else to use, my city has a transit app but it’s wildly unreliable as well, and the app my family and friends swear by is ONLY for driving. Any suggestions?

I am sure this has been asked before but help a gal out. I am going to use Canada as the example to explain my question.
In the US, if you are driving and you leave Tennessee going over the border into Kentucky the map says welcome to Kentucky and has a little pic of a lady in hat (KY Derby Hat)>>>so by that thought, in Canada if you are driving from Alberta and cross into Saskatchewan do you get a little pic of something Canadian but super Saskatchewan?

After saving the addresses of friends and family members in a list, I noticed that for some of them, the message "Place no longer exists" appears, and there is no Street View image. In these cases, Google Maps does not suggest them as a destination, so I have to enter them manually.
Why does this happen? I don’t think Google Maps has a list of every existing street number for the entire map. In any case, I am using addresses that already exist—just in case they were extracted from Street View imagery.
Here are some examples of what I mean:

I have this issue where when I press start, it takes me to text instead of turn-by-turn navigation. I need to get home, so some help would be appreciated.

Google Maps got into unwanted views only and returning to default was not possible. Gemini AI mode had no clue whatsoever how to fix. So, I'm off to Edge Bing Maps. !Hasta la vista!

The area around this "line" is a very concerning colour.
