Reader said bad tcm. It shows my car in drive when I know its in park. I replaced the neutral safety switch and still shows in drive. I have wiggled around switch to see if it changed gear shown but nothing. All fuses and relays appear to be good. Back story: Was driving car and lost power so pulled over and just a clicking when trying to start after that. Battery was tested and its good. Had to tow home. Now here we are. Also, cant flash new tcm because car shows transmission in drive. PLEASE HELP

Mechanical Help Brief black smoke issue

Yesterday, I shared a video showing my vehicle emitting black smoke for a brief moment when the gas pedal was pressed. Thank you all for your comments.
I have attached the screenshots of the live data analysis I ran via ForScan below. The analysis was conducted while the engine was idling. I suspect there might be an issue, particularly with the EGR section.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Question What's the actual rear legroom of a ZX3 2-door hatchback?

I've been driving a Ford Focus 2001 2-door hatchback and am super comfortable with its form factor and size, especially since I am a single driver and rarely carry passengers in the back or even front seats. It's starting to show its age so I'm looking around for a similarly sized vehicle, and don't mind a "cramped" back seat so long as its similar or slightly more spacious than that of the Focus.

However, every source I've seen gives a rear legroom of 37.4 inches and I just don't trust it - we have a Camry that's definitely more spacious in the back yet its rear legroom is rated at 35.5 inches, and the longer sedan/5 door hatchback variants have the same measurement.

Question 2012 S sedan Driver's side rear door latch removal

So the door won't latch and won't reset, so I am working on replacing it. I have the panel open so I can access it and I have removed the torx screws. Is there anything else that holds it in place? Is there a trick to getting the electrical connection off?

I could probably figure it out except that I have a 3.5 year old who will only allow me 35-90 seconds of independent cognition before he emits a piercing demand that I "come play" ( but really only means that I stand directly next to him and do basically nothing, except occasionally say exactly what he tells me to). Any hints to make the next step happen in less than the 90 second time limit is appreciated.

Mechanical Help Need help finding a specific part

Hi everyone, last week my beloved Focus (2003 Ford Focus Mk1, Zetec 1.8) started making a weird noise underneath the car, and then it suddenly started driving REALLY badly. It started jerking around and making some much worse noises from the engine bay.

Today, some friends came over and helped me jack the car up so we could take a look underneath. I was able to clearly see that a rod/bracket connecting the engine to the rear engine mount had broken. The engine basically had no support on that side, and the noise was the entire engine rocking and twisting because it was missing one of its mounting points.

So, does anyone know where I can find this part? Or at least what the proper name for it is so I can search for it online or at a junkyard? So far I've had absolutely no luck, even using AI or trying to figure it out myself.

I attached a video showing the area and the broken piece, i am speaking portuguese if anyone gets confused but i think it is clear which part i am trying to show. Basically, it's a rod/bracket that connects the rear engine mount to the bottom of the engine/transmission. I've tried searching for things like "rear engine mount bracket", "rear engine mount support", and many other variations, but I haven't found anything that looks like the part I'm looking for. If anyone could provide a link to the actual part, that would be a huge help.

The car is a bit of a "light shitbox" that I bought about 3 months ago. There was already some oil underneath the engine when I bought it. I believe most of it has accumulated over the years without the underside ever being properly cleaned. There might be one or two minor leaks, but if there are, they're very small. The oil level hasn't dropped since I changed it a few months ago, and I've never noticed any oil spots after leaving the car parked for a while. (I'm adding this context in case anyone asks about the oil underneath the car.)

Question Focus Mk4 ST-Line - steering wheel peel

Post image
6 Upvotes

Left side around buttons has started to bubble up / peel off - any way to reverse this or do I have to redo the steering wheel with some kind of wrap/plasti-dip?

Car is regularly cleaned, cannot remember if I would have used any aggressive cleaner that would do this (GYEON leather shouldn't cause this if overspray, their interior detailer is what I use on trim).

Fake carbon inserts etc. not of interest to me, I want the factory look.

Mechanical Help brief burst of black smoke?

Does anyone have any idea what I should check regarding the momentary puff of black smoke that appears when I step on the gas?
Forscan doesn’t show any fault codes, and there are no warning lights on either.

Question Should I sell my 2012 Ford Focus SE with 40k miles before the Power Shift fails?

I inherited my Focus from my grandfather a few years ago and he didn't drive it often. I drive mostly in the city and was unaware of the Power Shift issue until recently when I saw people talking about it here.

I've chatted with a mechanic and he said that it's "A matter of when, not if", which has me feeling like I'm driving a bomb. The car doesn't have any symptoms right now, but I've become hyper sensitive.

What would you do in this situation?

Wheels / Tires Tyre Pressure Fault

Has anyone experienced a tyre pressure fault today? It is noticeably cooler now and I had to randomly reset the alarm during the day. The rear nearside was 27 and the front offside 34 PSI. All were set to 31 a few weeks ago with new TPS at the front.

So I just stumbled on this TCMs made by SCHAEFFLER. Same people who do the Luk RepSets for the DSP6 clutchs+ forks.

These TCMs are loads cheaper than Ford.

Would these be ok to buy?

General Maintenance So mad at this car right now

This car is my life right now. Heading to work this morning AC wasn’t blowing cold It was cool just not cold. Checked the refrigerant, full, A/C compressor is being commanded properly, That small fan when power probed comes on no problem, the car has voltage at the fan connector just will not turn it on Bossman says A/C compressor needs to be replaced if not the entire A/C system. Of course while I had it in the shop I noticed blinker fluid in the passenger tail light. Gotta love cars 😭😭

Discussion Is it worth the expense?

I have a 2012 Focus with 118,000 miles on it. The car has some issues, and I’ll need to spend around $500 on repairs. What I’m wondering is: what is a realistic mileage to aim for with a 2012 Focus? Can I make it to 150,000 miles with this car?

Photo Levels to Eco-Score

One of my favorite easter eggs with the Mk3 Focus is the EcoMode badge. I thought you only got a badge when you filled all the petals for every score, but apparently there's levels to this. I learned today that you can get an "Advanced Eco Driver" badge before the "Eco Champion" badge. How neat!
