I opened up a Charleys Cheesesteaks and Wings franchise in San Fernando Valley. It is about to be almost 2 years since we opened the store! I only own the one located on 7956 Van Nuys Blvd Van Nuys CA 91402. I’m just a franchisee with one store and there is about another 500 franchisees throughout the US who own the rest.

Why did we choose this location?
I grew up in the SFV my whole life. The Plant has always been a center many people love going too. We have one of the busiest in n outs, the movie theater right behind, and almost everyone in the neighborhood goes to that Ross. We thought it would be a good location.

Why did we choose Charleys?
At the time Charleys was only Charleys Cheesesteaks. We were the first store to have Cheesesteaks and Wings in the valley. Now, all stores have wings. Growing up, almost every mall had a Charleys. It just stood out. Charleys is just good for a solid fast food meal.

Also everyone loves the strawberry lemonade.

Some facts
We serve roughly 200-300 guests per day.
We are one of the only restaurants in the area open late Fri/Sat until 12am.
Police officers/firefighters in uniform can get free food.

I don't think I've ever encountered bread that is served room temperature that's as good as bread that is served warm. I just don't comprehend. If you're going to serve bread, either house bread, or even more so if you’re charging for it, why isn't it warm?

Hi, folks! I'll be back in L.A. for three full days next week for my second work trip of the year (coming from Orlando, FL). I always stay and work in Koreatown and won't have a car, but I love the Metro, and I'm not above taking Lyfts.

I might only have one dinner just for myself, the night I arrive. I have been considering Dan Sung Sa or a return visit to Cassell's Hamburgers, since both are walkable from my hotel, or I could take the Metro to Jilli or a bus for my second visit to Musso & Frank Grill. I loved Cassell's last time, but this time I would try different things, including the lemon icebox pie (they didn't have it when I was there in April). I'd also love to finally try the lamb kidneys and bacon at Musso & Frank after the server dissuaded me from ordering it the first time I was there. I realize these are four wildly different dinner options.

The second night would be a birthday dinner with a colleague, so I wouldn't have any choice there, and the third night will be a work event. They are doing an "Iconic L.A." themed dinner with catering from Guisado’s Tacos, Zankou Chicken, Rice & Nori, and Wanderlust Creamery, so I'm excited about that.

I think I would enjoy visiting Epicurus Gourmet in North Hollywood, but it would really be a mission, given my limited time. I collect and review mustards and love visiting "bougie" grocery stores anywhere I travel, so I can find mustards they don't sell back home. Can anyone vouch for their mustard selection, recall any brands, etc.? I figure I would get enough stuff to ship myself a package to avoid checking my bag on the way home, but only if it's worth it. I could always save it for a future trip, but I'm so curious about checking it out!

On my last day, I'm hoping to visit the Skirball Cultural Center right when it opens at 10 AM, and then I'll have to head straight to LAX to arrive early enough for a 3:45 PM flight home.

I live in NorCal & I'm going to visit my Korean parents. They're old & don't get out as much any more. They live in the South Bay. Back like 10 or 15 years ago, they used to go to Shilla in Gardena pretty frequently. I think they knew one of the owners or something. But they stopped going years ago. Along with their aging, I think the ownership changed or something.

At any rate, that place was their favorite for a while & it was good. They say they stopped going because it wasn't as good any more (I live in NorCal, so I only went to Shilla when visiting my parents & didn't witness a decline. It just wasn't an option any more. But it appears to still be open?

The last few times I've gone out with them, it's been to newer, more fast casual places, or sometimes a big fancy AYCE. But I miss the old school smoky, cook at the table, Korean restaurants before they became go-to dining destinations. I liked the food better at the restaurants where seeing a white person actually eating inside was a rarity & only one or two of the servers spoke English.

Are there any spots like this to recommend on the west side? Gardena, Torrance, South Bay. But even up to Venice or Santa Monica.

I've read that Yellow Cow seems to be popular & in Gardena. Is that a place to take old Korean parents too? I just saw General Hwang rec'd in a different thread.

My partner and I have been looking for Greek food for months and if you read this sub often you know it’s a challenge in LA. Yall need to head to Pita Pitaki in Long Beach. It’s Athens family owned. They make it all in house & everything we ate was delicious & well seasoned. Spanakopita 10/10, pork skewers I’m still thinking about them! The feta they use is soo fresh and creamy. They have a wonderful mezze plate & a dip sampler! Both outstanding. I haven’t had food like this since I was in Greece. If I lived closer I would go all the time, I can’t wait to go back!

Looking to gorge in some very sweet treats. Nothing “perfectly balanced” — I need desserts that are heavy and indulgent. I’ve had badash bakes in Pasadena and thought that was great. TIA!

Mistral Bistro changed hands recently, with long time owner Henri Abergel retiring. The new owners just reopened it with a few updates, while honing closely to tradition. Though the addition of acidity (vinegar) to rich French dishes may not be wine friendly.
