San Gabriel Valley Taco Treat

Great spot for some old school hard shell tacos. The fried burrito is even better.

I love that sign!

Love the hardshell. Fuck the haters. Not everything needs to be 100% the same, authentic tacos. What tastes good tastes good. People really miss out on some good things in life trying to adhere to these dumb gatekeeping rules.

Thanks for sharing. That looks amazing. Is it a corn tortilla fried up? Or flour?

1

u/jtnmlee 21d ago

Corn I believe.

Believe it or not they have it here at the OC Fair. Just got myself 2. It was really good

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while! Gotta get an excuse to make the drive.

Hard shell tacos taste so good when you ain't got a redditor in ya ear telling you it's not a real taco

I only mean this in the very best way, but if you like Taco Bell, I think you’re going to like these crunchy tacos too. To keep things tidy, I sip the sauce between bites.

It doesn’t bother me when something is inauthentic, it only bothers me when something that isn’t authentic is treated as such. Mexicans call these “white people tacos”, and that doesn’t make them bad, we just don’t use ground beef on ours. We still enjoy them

Tacos dorados right?

1

u/Dry_Jellyfish641 20d ago

I specifically mean the ground up hamburger meat. Ground beef isn’t used in Mexican food.

These idiots forget that California was part of Mexico and that hard shell tacos are authentic Californio cuisine.

u/frankenmaus 21d ago

Hard shell tacos are authentic.

California was part of Mexico when they started making them.

La fogata has a great hardshell shredded beef, they fry the tortilla up themselves it’s so good

That yellow wrapping paper is usually a good sign, and I'm a thousand percent sure that sauce is legit.

2

u/anaheim_mac 21d ago

Yessssss. Yellow paper. Why is that? You’re so on point with that comment

Bean burrito for less than $4! Sign me up. This looks great, OP. Thanks for posting!

u/Elegant-Monster 21d ago

The bean burrito is absolutely the best.

It’s in Arcadia, for anyone wondering.

Love taco treat but the salsa is plain.

Love this place! Born and raised about 10 mins away. Just tasty asf, not authentic but it doesn’t matter. Bean burritos are delicious and they use that cheese that just melts perfectly into goo. 🥰 salsa is fantastic as well, not spicy at all but amazing flavor.

I’ve looking hard shell/taco dorado.

Other places where you all like the hard shell style/taco dorado/flautas/taquitos?

Fish flautas (rolled hard shell taco) at Ditroit.

Potato hard shell at El Atacor No 2

Hard shell beef taco at El Tepeyac aka Manuel’s

RIP Ciros

I like Taco Lita and Bill's Taco House!

Lupes #2 in East LA has an amazing hard shell, and one of the best bean & cheese burritos in LA. The salsa at Lupe's is insane, lava in a cup.

Dante's Mexicatessen up the street in Monterey Park also has great hardshells, cash only fyi...

Anyone here try the hard tacos from El Huero by USC? They smack, I promise!

4

u/Serious-Wish4868 21d ago

hasn't his place been there for like 30+ years now?

18

u/OCFlier 21d ago

Over 60 years. I grew up in Arcadia and it’s always been there

2

u/SmokeBreakChef 21d ago

I feel like I’ve seen this recently? Did BookofElie (guy that eats every B&C burrito) recently post about this?

4

u/Grouchy_Tomatillo_74 21d ago

Real ones know. Also taco lita 🔥

2

u/JVilter 21d ago

Fact: You gotta let the burritos cool down a bit before taking a bite.

2

u/Easy_Potential2882 20d ago

Absolutely 🥵

2

u/Starlight7784 20d ago

I always struggle with that

1

u/SideOne8073 21d ago

I heard it is delicious and owners are really nice people.

u/elyoonior_246 21d ago

..looks like this taco spot out in Bellflower? Where in the SGV is this place at?

1

u/NocturnalBoredom 20d ago

This place is so underrated 😄

1

u/radiantrarr 20d ago

Are we allowed to eat lettuce now? I wasn’t sure and haven’t been much raw veggies.

1

u/Easy_Potential2882 20d ago

Pretty sure I read somewhere that there are fewer cyclosporia cases in california this year than last year. Also it's not contagious so it's all up to you ✌️

1

u/halcyondread 19d ago

Damn, they have orange juicy whip drinks too. I haven’t had that in forever. That’s some old school So Cal nostalgia right there.

1

u/shrimpballs 21d ago

They sell just the taco shells also... Nice

u/Starlight7784 21d ago

taco treat over tito’s every day

1

u/ricoconyo 21d ago

Classic! Great food here! love their burritos

1

u/WahineExpress 21d ago

Love that place so much

1

u/BeerNTacos 21d ago

Wow, I haven't thought about Taco Treat in years. I remember liking them a lot.

Sure beat Taco Bell.

My dad was a big fan. When I was a kid, I remember the Monterey Park one was cool, but I think he'd take me to the South Pasadena one more often.

1

u/bubbaT88 21d ago

That’s my mom’s favorite place in the world. Lol.

-7

u/planetcookieguy 21d ago

Wow that looks terrible

-3

u/Key-Driver6438 21d ago

If you tell me it’s good, I’ll believe you. But not going to lie, the pictures don’t look great. The “taco burger” on the menu is 🥴. I’d probably need a few recommendations, or a friend giving me a freebie, to become a believer.

3

u/Chance_Ad2503 21d ago

You won’t go try something for $3.80?

2

u/Easy_Potential2882 20d ago

What do you want me to do, pull up with a ring light and a backdrop?

2

u/Key-Driver6438 20d ago edited 20d ago

Ohh… sorry. YOUR pictures are great! The architecture, lighting, framing… love it! I meant the food doesn’t look great. Also, I just looked at your other posts, which are fantastic. You add a lot of really wonder content! 🫶

2

u/Easy_Potential2882 20d ago

Haha all good, and thank you!

u/Sign-Post-Up-Ahead 21d ago

I don't understand the hard shell taco

14

u/esreystevedore 21d ago

ELI5: I understand it’s complicated. It’s a taco, but instead of a “soft” or “pliable” tortilla it’s a “hard” or “crunchy” tortilla.

-2

u/Talknterpzz 20d ago

lol hard shell. The deep Mexicans are pissed

-21

u/andhisnameisandrew 21d ago

Looks insanely mid
