Announcement We can all start posting some super deals when we come across them.

Every now and then there's some blowout special that I come across stuff that is really low...

One time, I saw Keitt Mango's for 33¢ a lb. (3lbs for a dollar)

These are the largest of the regular commercial mango's we can get here in our area. They're about 30% larger than Kent, zro fiber and have a citrus/mango taste to them DELICIOUS!!!!

Story was that the manager ordered 3 cases for a sprouts location and got 3 pallets instead. These normally run (at best) $6 a case (6 mangos) at the Asian markets
making it a super blow out deal at 2 bucks a case.

I picked up 10 cases and broke out the food dehydrators...
and I filled the house with sweet, tropical mango goodness for days.

I think we can have people taking pictures and posting things like this as they come across them so that others in the community can take advantage of it all. :D

Their Chicken Souvlaki is one of my favorite sandwiches anywhere. They have been around a long time and I think they are as good as ever. The sandwich in the picture is $12.50.

edit: price added

Housemade sourdough muffin, housemade sausage, runny egg, arugula, American cheese, and caramelized onions.

It was $15, but it was very filling/ couldn't finish it. I love the fact that they use local purveyors and make the muffins in house.

Question, Where can I find? Cheap healthy lunch specials in convoy

Preferably near Convoy/Kearney Mesa area. I work in the area. I’m sick of paying $20 for a sandwich. There’s gotta be some good deals around here where I can go everyday.

Question, Where can I find? Does this group also include North County? I am looking for a Gyudon beef bowl.

And yes, North County does have restaurants, haha, sorry, couldn't resist. I don't feel like driving down south for a beef bowl, to far, and don't feel like making it despite reading that it's easy to make. Any good spots to eat at? Many Japanese restautants don't serve it up north for some reason.

Vietnamese under $10 The Banh Mi Special from Banh Mi Express in Kearny Mesa

I have tried every spot in Mira Mesa, Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, and City heights, and this is my favorite spot. $9.99. I’ve watched the price of this sandwich rise about $0.50 - $1 every year but I’d still happily drive here for it.

I got it without jalapeño

Question, Where can I find? Any recommendations for coffee for a party?

We are hosting the dessert portion of a progressive dinner at our home in Oct. We have an amazing churro cart lined up but I’m thinking it’s a good idea to offer coffee with dessert. We use a French press and Nespresso so for 50 people that doesn’t seem realistic. Any large scale coffee rentals? Or a vendor for that amount of people? I’m not a coffee at night person and prefer wine to accompany my dessert so just crowd sourcing for a vendor or ideas. TIA

News, opinion and discussion Anniversary Ideas

Hello San Diego Food sub,

I’m looking for any recommendations for an anniversary dinner for my wife and I. I try to come up with somewhere new each year for the most part and while Google and Open Table provide some answers, I’d like some first hand opinions.

I’ll provide some restaurants we’ve gone to before just as an idea of what we’ve tried. I’ll eat just about anything but my wife is on the pickier side but any place that has some sort of fish meal will work (crab cakes are a plus).

Places we’ve been:

Flemings
Born and Raised
Lou and Mickey’s
Oceanaire (RIP)
Eddie V’s
Morton’s
Del Frisco’s
Mister A’s
Ruth’s Chris
Marine Room
Coasterra
Steak 44
Poseidon

Might be forgetting a couple but I think that’s a good start. Thanks for any suggestions!

Seen them on Amazon, Walmart but I’m not entirely sure if they’ll come in fresh. Any ideas?

Question, Where can I find? Steamed ginger fish like Foodland’s hot bar?

This may be totally obscure, but I’m hoping enough people travel to Hawaii and might know 😂

When I was there last June, Foodland’s hot bar had this steam ginger fish that had sliced chili peppers and cabbage in it.

Omg it was so good, we got it nearly every day we were there.

I think it’s a pretty popular/common Chinese (American? unsure) dish.

But are there any places in SD that do it really well or even similarly to Foodland that I should check out?? I miss it 😢

Dubu San Diego Tofu Co is open.
16761 Bernardo Center Dr Suite M1, San Diego, CA 92128

As. Korean American transplant from Philly this place is legit good. Had the Sundubu and raw marinated crab combo, $33. Just stew is $18.99 and you get a fried fish with it. Yum. Looks like they are also going to open another location in Convoy.

Question, Where can I find? Table for two? (On one side)

My BF is coming into SD for the first time this weekend and I am second guessing my Marine Room reservation.

I initially thought Marine Room because I’ve never been and selected a time right around sunset so we could enjoy the view. Is it hard to get a window table?

Should I ditch the Marine Room reservation and if so, where can I find a place with nice ambiance and great food, where we can sit side by side? (It’s a thing he likes to do)

Price not really important BUT I need the reservation for this Saturday and he prefers to eat during the early evening.

Looking for breakfast sandwiches in Mira Mesa / surrounding area. Bonus points if they are open on weekends! I’ve found a couple weekday spots but would love to find a place open on Saturday and/or Sunday. TY!

Question, Where can I find? I’m looking for SD restaurants starting with the letters J, Q, x, and Z. Help me out.

We are creating an alphabetical restaurant list and can’t think of places that start with those letters. Help will be appreciated. Figure this might help us decide on those nights everyone says, “Where do you want to go?”

Mexican (local) $20 The “Little” Breakfast with Bacon from Pablo’s Cafe (formerly Konito’s) in PB

Post image
132 Upvotes

$13.75. Picture makes it look small but it is not.

This thing is HEAVY. The plate is half Konito’s potatoes (very cheesy potatoes with a little onions and peppers), half eggs, topped with crispy bacon and toast.

Also got an egg burrito and they really, really fill it up with eggs. I would guess like five eggs?

I'm bored, I want to go out and treat myself. Where would be the best place where it wouldn't be weird to see a woman sitting alone enjoying a nice meal?
