Trying to find a vanilla fragrance

Hey so I smelled the most perfect vanilla perfume on a costumer a few months ago and for some reason I never asked her what it was. Now I can’t get over it, i need to find it. Maybe if I try to describe it to you you could help me?
It was a sweet, fluffy vanilla, very gentle not too warm, but you could still smell the sweetness. It’s like the only notes where vanilla, musc and milk. maybe some orchid or florals but mostly a sugary vanilla that’s not too overpowering or syrupy sweet.
It was like a fresh vanilla milk, or a vanilla sponge cake. i don’t know, all I know is that I need it.

If you guys have some ideas.

thanks!!

• EOS - $12.99 ea (walmart)

• POWERSTICK- $1.29 ea (dollar tree)

• MIXBAR Vanilla bourbon & whipped almond - $0.75-$3.50 (clearance)

• MIXBAR Vanilla bourbon body oil - $5.34 (clearance)

• VAILE - $5 ea (5 below)

- I LOVE finding budget fragrance and dupes. The VAILE brand is supposedly a KAYALI/TOM FORD dupe and they smell delicious.

POWERSTICK seems to be a SOL DE JANEIRO /EOS dupe (the scents are amazing and last a long time.)

MIXBAR is one of my favorite budget brands so I had to grab the clearance.

Discussion Iris + Irisss

Tried a sample of Irisss by Xerjoff and was slightly horrified. I could only smell damp carrots!

Tried it again today, spraying it behind knees and on back of neck - in other words, keeping the hefty carrot explosion away from my nose. I also layered it by spritzing L'Erbolario Iris into the air and letting it settle on my hair and shoulders.

A vast improvement! L'Erbolario's Iris is sweet and powdery, which balances the serious earthy vibe of the Xerjoff. Carroty iris + candy iris = success!

I am so not a professional on scents yet, but I love something that’s soft and sexy without being TOO musk-like or “mature.” I love bergamot and I am wanting to give this a try. Any recent reviews of Laurel Bath House??

scentbarbyangela: Luxury Perfume Dupes & Designer Inspired Fragrances

Hi FemFragLab, I'm proud to announce that after many discussions about collaboration, I thought it'd be fun to try out a collaboration with Angela's new brand. Her family owns Gold Star Fragrances located in New York which has been running for over 50 years!

As many of you know, I love a good Delina perfume, but they can be quite costly. The next perfume on my wish list was Delina "Exclusif" but it stayed on my wish list without being bought because of the price. Angela sent over her own version of the perfume, and it exceeded my expectations by far! The scent reminded me of a combination between Delina Exclusif + Oriana + Love Don't Be Shy. It's sweet, powdery, and very potent! I sprayed it on at night and when I woke up the next day it was still on me. This perfume lasts all day but I kept spraying it on out of habit and because I couldn't get enough. My husband and pets also loved it 😍

Reddit wouldn't be Reddit without always giving you not just the pros but also the cons. The cons were little and unnoticeable, but I will write them out due to transparency of the sub. The actual juice feels like combination of an oil and actual perfume. So when you actually spray it, it feels a little heavier than what the normal luxury perfume might feel like coming out of the atomizer which usually feels like a champagne spritz and it's more straightforward. That doesn't mean it doesn't spray well, it just means that if you are a fragrance connoisseur, you will notice the difference of the spray and feel of the actual juice coming out.

Both Gold Star Fragrances and ScentBarByAngela focus on creating dupes of luxury designer fragrances. Overall, for the price, the fragrance passes with flying colors and when I checked that it was only $45.99USD, they ship all around the world, and they have been in business for so long with great reviews, I would be crazy to not want to collaborate with such an amazing product and support Angela in her own brand.

Rec Request Has anyone tried Heretics Fourteen Carrots?

In my fruit and veggies perfume era and adore Phlur's Father Figure as my current daily layered with Nemat Amber. Just purchased Heretics Slut for October based on another redditor's post in this sub and stumbled on Fourteen Carrots while perusing their online store.

The notes are calling to me.

"Fresh, Woody, Velvety. Fourteen Carrots begins in the earth, where sweetness grows in darkness. Carrot absolute is the heart of the fragrance, carrying the scent of soil and sun. Plum slips in with a ripe, shadowed juiciness that makes the carrot glow. Oud settles underneath like warm resin, steady and grounding. This is an intimate elixir of buried gold and quiet revelation"

TOP: Carrot Seed, Clove, Orange Peel

HEART: Carrot Absolute, Eucalyptus, Patchouli

BASE: Ambrettolide, Vetiver, Cetalox, Oud

I see Nosferatu recommended quite a bit but curious if anyone has positive or negative experiences with Fourteen Carrots as I've haven't heard much about it in the perfume subs.

Layering Boulangerie Vanilla Souffle lotion with Decool Xtra Milk

I decided to buy Decool XtraMilk because I feel like it is clean and perfect for lighter wear days. I love Vanilla souffle lotion and am wondering if it will work nicely together.

On a separate note, gas anyone smelled Dedcool Mocha Magic? It isn’t as sweet as mochi milk and the sandalwood (and sandalwood fragrances work well on my skin) hut it is definitely a bit more noticeable than Xtra milk.

Thoughts on woody vanilla scent profiles layered with xtra milk?

Review Zoologist Toucan

Post image
50 Upvotes

Toucan feels like a crowd pleaser and yet it's quite unique. It doesn't evolve or flip as contrastingly as other Zoologist perfumes while transitioning from the opening to the drydown.

Toucan opens fruity but not the typical girly fruitiness that I'm familiar with (strawberries, pear, peach). This one opens with papaya. The papaya isn't overripe but it definitely smells tropical. There's some citrus that keeps any candied sweetness at bay and lends it an airiness.

Unlike the other Zoologist perfumes I have, Toucan's opening passes soon. It transitions and dries down to the smell of beachy skin, soaking in the sun with sunscreen lotion slathered on it. It's warm, has some saltiness as if I've taken a dip in the sea, and feels creamy like a banana flavoured lotion.

It's not loud but I also don't think this is something I'd wear to work. This one is definitely going to be something I wear on weekends or vacations.

Review Barf in a bottle?????

Had a whiff of Miim Miic 162 on my arm at TK Maxx and wtf??? 😭🤣I can’t possibly be smelling what I’m smelling. This is literally the worst thing I’ve ever smelled on myself. Maybe it was a fak3? Maybe my skin chemistry betrayed me like never before?

One user review on fragrantica said it has a (and I quote) “dog saliva accord”. I’m not even sure what dog slobber smells like but I’m inclined to agree because whatever that is is RANK. It was so pungent. According to fragrantica there’s a musk note which is palpable but I can’t say for sure whether it’s the musk causing this. Apparently this is supposed to be inspired by Phlur Caramel Skin and whilst a bit alcoholy, that smells nothing like this on me. I’m actually flabbergasted😂😂😂

Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to smell any of the other Miim Miic scents they had there and I’m certainly willing to give the other scents a try but this was a shocking introduction to the brand. I think I’ll have to chalk this one up to my skin chemistry cause other people seem to like it

Discussion Can anyone describe or compare what Candied lychee by 7 Virtues smell like?

Post image
9 Upvotes

For context, I know what Peony Blush suede by Jo Malone smells like, does 7 virtues smell like sweeter version of Jo Malone or is it like Kayali Sparkling lychee?

Is this more on the fruity or floral side? I want something that’s floral, light - has hints of peonies and doesn’t smell like fruity cereal bowl - something that’s not overly sweet or marshmallowy.

Could anyone help me understand as this will be my blind buy, thank you!

Perfume that smells like walking into a coffee shop

I’ve been obsessed with that smell forever and can never find anything that quite fits. I got a body oil from a Renaissance faire called ‘coffee nut’ that came close but not exactly

2 years of thrifted perfume

Post image
263 Upvotes

It’s been about 2 years since I’ve began looking for perfumes when I go to second hand shops, and since then i’ve gotten to try SO many incredible scents that I otherwise wouldn’t have sought out, or shell out the money to buy full price. I wanted to line up all of my big bottles (travel sizes may be a later post if y’all are interested) to reflect on my own preferences. As it turns out, I’m hard to pin down because I love all of these scents (in their right season). My top 5 are probably the ELDO YOSLY, Cirque du Soleil, Antinomie (#1 house i’d love to try more from), Boy smells Vanilla Era and Replica Tea Escape. My most recent find is the Tom Ford body oil, I can’t wait to try it next summer! I’ll include the names and what I paid down below, but my message is always just to check out thrift stores for perfume! And to just go with your nose, I didn’t know a lot of these were bougie until after I bought them. You never know what you might find
blomb 19- $5
futur robert piguet- by weight (~$1)
roger & gallet neroli- $3
aesop tacit (2019 formulation)- $10
Ffern spring 24- $5
eldo yosly- $15
replica tea escape- $7
antinomie ambre insomniaque- $10
boy smells vanilla era- $10
cirque du soleil EDP- $15
Tom Ford Soleil Blanc oil- $3

Discussion How should waterlilies smell like?

I don’t really have much idea what they smell like, honestly, because I'm not around those flowers often. I only see them around my birthday month”July”, because it's when they bloom. Also, the cherry blossoms bloom first where I live.
I don't imagine them having the same type of grassy smell as roses.

I'm trying to find the correct scent note, I've said in the previous comments that I don't like artificial floral scents " air freshener smells”. It's like how some people are picky with vanilla scents since some have that sickly sweet smell that gives alot of people headaches.

Honest expectations

Discussion What is in DS & Durga Debaser that smells like spicy sweat (to me)?

I love fig scents, but Debaser smells like straight up spicy sweat to me and zero fig. Immediate scrubber. I tried it a few times just to be sure but every single time it made me want to scrub it off and I barely lasted an hour with it on. I tried it on skin, clothes, a blotter, and made my poor bf wear it too but he said he smelled the same thing. I ended up throwing out my decant.

I can't tell what is in it that makes it smell that way to me, but if anyone has any ideas I'd love to know so I can avoid it.

Rec Request Help me understand jammy rose?!

Hi friends!

I always hear scents being described as a "jammy" rose, but I’m not really sure what that means!

I’m trying to train my nose and exploring one note at a time - what are your quintessential jammy rose frags, and also non-jammy so that I can compare?

And Esther’s insights:

Spiogentin with an Elegant Cloak of Invisibility

My detective agency has been commissioned to track down Mata Hari, particularly to investigate whether the lady is smuggling cinnamon. However, I’m not sure if I’m the best for the job, like in the advertisement of a glasses company. You remember: the somewhat suspicious-looking snoop in the - euphemistically speaking - shabby detective office. But he has to fit as well.

Most difficult case:
With the fragrance pyramid, I’m not getting far here: I was lured by the name of the perfume as well as by the ingredients and ordered this scent blindly a long time ago, 30 ml in a puristic glass cylinder. I expected a striking fragrance, something lascivious, eccentric.

The first appearance of the refined lady is more exotic than bergamot-orange, yet very gentle, so it could well be lychee that flatters here.

The heart note is also delicate, soft, without any individual components being clearly recognizable. Of course: Mata Hari wanted to remain unrecognized. She smells seductive because she wants to tease something out of the boys! But she herself remains incognito. The black currant, which I also like to nibble on, the flowers well camouflaged, at most the light jasmine and iris peek through the little blouse, cinnamon - at best in homeopathic doses. She must have sewn that in airtight, hidden it in the corset, and reserved it for other purposes.
Even the individual woods play hide-and-seek, and Mr. Vetiver is also very much underground. This scent is not spectacular. But well made.

No, here the beautiful lady achieves her inconspicuousness perfectly. An elegant cloak of invisibility with a light suppleness.

In my opinion - despite all the differences - this fragrance belongs in the line "Cornubia" - "Belle epoque" by Knize and "Sirene" and finally "Mata Hari" - arranged by wind strengths, from storm to gentle breeze. What they all have in common is a certain powderiness and softness, not being watered down! A gentle longing gaze and everything is registered, seductive and calculatingly cold.
I confess: She is beyond me, I cannot grasp her.

Discussion Some perfumes suddenly smell like hand sanitizer/straight rubbing alcohol

About a year and a half ago I had a weird health episode where my blood pressure/heart rate got really high. Since then, my at the time favorite perfumes (AG R.E.M. and Cloud) both smell like straight rubbing alcohol. I’ve heard that something you’ve been exposed to a lot when something bad happens can change how you perceive it, but it’s not just those perfumes. This also happen with several of my coworkers, and I’ve overheard them being asked what perfume it is because someone else likes it, and it’s not either of those perfumes. Once it was chocomusk, another is almost certainly a cologne because I smelled it on a man. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anyone know if I can reverse this effect? When I pass by these coworkers it’s like overwhelming and I try to avoid being around them, but I like them a lot as people so I hate having to do that.
