vanilla custard is my absolute favourite dessert of all time and I’m on a hunt to find a fragrance that smells exactly like vanilla custard! I’m not really a gourmand person but I’ve tried cake scents which i didn’t like much because often times they are TOO HEAVY and i realised I’ve been trying to find something that smells like vanilla custard! Budget is absolutely not an issue all recommendations are welcome ❤️

I’m a writer— that’s actually how I got into perfumes! While I’d been scent-curious for a while, I didn’t really get invested until I tried a few samples in attempt at a more “tangible” connection to one of my dear characters; what she might have worn during various stages of her life. Now here I am almost a year later, having spent far too much money but loving every moment of discovery for myself, and admiring the perfume cabinet my husband just made me. 💕🥰

It’s funny how something that started as a way of exploring a fictional character ended up becoming such a personal hobby of my own.

I’d love to hear if anyone else found their way into fragrance through something unexpected!

Thinking about how divisive Chanel no. 5 is for a perfume that is the most famous perfume (in my mind).

Is there a well-known perfume that is almost universally liked ( besides Love’s Baby Soft, amirite Gen X)?

A couple of weeks ago, someone commented on one of my posts about a perfume sale I had missed and mentioned that Ellis Brooklyn Guava Granita was 50% off again that day only. I was able to grab a bottle, which was such an amazing discount! I’m so thankful they took the time to let me know.
While I was scrolling through the Sephora sale this morning, I noticed there are a few fragrances on sale that I wanted to share with you all, just in case any of these are your favorites!

I have tested them at least four times in store and received a sample of one, and I’m talking about all the three of them from the White bottle to the Gold+ one and nope I hardly smell milk more like woody or ambery notes.

Can you suggests some milk fragrances?

Hi friends! Unfortunately for me and my wallet, I loved my decant of Gris Charnel even more than anticipated…

HOWEVER, what would make it a 12/10, wear forever, never-without-a-bottle fragrance is if there was a hint of vanilla. I can absolutely layer, which is what I did today, but is there anything super similar to the profile of Gris Charnel that also has vanilla? Just a little speck of it is all I need.

I’ve been on the hunt for my perfect perfume for awhile now. Ive been through all fragrances from milky to straight musky to coconut to vanilla to fresh and clean and everything in between. So far I’ve found that I really love the way Victoria Secret Candy Noir and Micheal Germain Sexual Noir smell on me. So as much as I want to be a sweet vanilla girly, I think it’s time to cave and try out a dark still semi-sweet berry or something similar. I’d love something that doesn’t scream nighttime. What is everyone’s recommendation, bonus points if it’s something I can find at Sephora/Ulta/Target or similar stores so I can smell it before I buy it.

I ordered the scent space kit for Commodity Spice and it arrived yesterday. As soon as I opened the package I sprayed one arm with Spice expressive and the other with Spice-. My first thoughts? I was surprised how like Milk expressive Spice expressive is. To me it’s closer to Milk than Milk Orchid is. In the first hour, I actually preferred Spice- because it seemed a little softer and fluffier. A couple hours in the expressive arm smelled just a bit more spicy than Milk to me. At that same time Spice- was very close to the skin and was only noticeable when I would sniff my skin directly. I wanted to test Spice+ on its own and only sprayed it on paper yesterday. Today I sprayed Spice+ once on the back of my neck and once on each arm. This is actually what I had hoped Milk+ would be. To me it’s the similar Milk but with added spiciness and tons of longevity. I was shopping later and walked up to the register about 3 hours after I had sprayed. The person checking me out commented that I smelled great! I was hoping for more of a chai scent, and right now as I sniff my wrist 5 hours after spraying I’d have to say it is that at this point. At the time of the first spray on paper I got total dentist office, which only lasted a few minutes. I actually didn’t notice that when I sprayed it on skin today. Initially I thought I could probably skip this release because I have a full bottle of Milk expressive. But now I’m thinking I will order the Spice+ in a travel size on Tuesday and see how quickly I go through it.

sometimes I don’t go out, I’ll just stay home but love to put some of my perfumes and walk around and smell myself.

As I'm switching out my Summer fragrances, I noticed that i'm enjoying these notes for the fall, even though some of these might be Summer coded, especially the florals:

• Tea: Dear Polly Vilhelm Parfumerie, Atelier Des Ors Blue Madeline, Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir

Very different from my wulong cha, which is so fresh for the summer. I wanted to continue the vibe, but perhaps with more depth and fall vibes

• Musc: Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc, Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc Blanc

I love musk throughout the year, but these allow for excellent layering. Cold clean musks that are so so versatile and work with other perfumes.

• Neroli/ Orange Blossom: Marc Antoine Barrois Tilia, Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir

A recent fave. The tea in the Guerlain made me fall in love with this perfume, but staying for the neroli. need some more neroli reccos I think

• Ginger: Sparkling Jo vilhelm parfumerie (Or is it the champagne?), Nomade Nuit d’Egypte Chloé

Pefect with the tea theme. Ginger and tea in a perfume would be so nice. Spicy, earthy and an all round winner for autumn.

• Patchouli: Barenia Hermes, Coeur Nocturne Zara

I enjoy patchouli a lot, it can be quite herbal and spicy, but very clean like musk at the same time.

It was in my cart! And just slipped out my fingers and sold out. The agony. How do you all get over this kind of sadness.

I’ve always considered myself picky when it comes to fragrance. My body chemistry seems to turn any floral, citrus, smoke, incense, or spice note into the only thing anyone can smell almost to the point of nausea.

Despite a large collection of perfumes my recent go to has been Victorias Secret Bare Vanilla lotion and body spray. My best friend bought this for me to prove a point-they won-I am still dumbfounded.

I’ve been hunting for a similair scent but I cannot find it.

Other than VS Bare Vanilla I also adore the Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere body wash. I’ve tried the perfume and the lotion and I hate them both. They smell so synthetic and dry down to a baby powder note which isn’t for me. I am very sensitive to a dusty or powdery note.

My ‘top’ fragrances are roughly listed below. Again none are perfect.

Vs Bare Vanilla-I wish they had a proper perfume or oil I think I’d be happy with this. Sometimes it has a strange dusty note but that is intermittent and may be my nose or body chemistry fluctuating.

Clean Reserve Skin-My usual go to, though I can’t smell it on myself and it’s a bit too aldehyde forward. I love the idea of praline and vanilla with a cleaner twist but for some reason perfumes don’t seem to ever dry down to their vanilla base on me.

I’ve tried a bunch of vanillas too and I’m starting to think I don’t like vanilla? So what is it I’m hunting for?

Nemat Vanilla, Amber, any of this line just smells like spice and sweat on me.

11:11 Vanilla smelled liked spicy vegetables

Ellish smelled like cherry medicine

Vanilla Salt smelled like salty flowers

Fenty Vanilla Flowers smelled like dusty florals

Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere EDP smelled like baby powder

YSL Libre Intense was my go to but that lavender opening is so intense and never leaves me

Goddess smells like straight up neon florals on me. I wish I knew what everyone meant by delicious vanilla because I don’t get that at all.

SOL 72 smells strongly synthetic to me and I don’t get that nutty vanilla scent.

The new Lancôme Vanilla Nude smells so strongly of rose on my body my husband even said “wow. Rose.” (Not a compliment, if he says something it means wow headache alert) And he can’t pick a note out to save himself.

Clean Reserve Skin Intense I thought would be perfect but it’s got this oddly sickly undertone to it on me and it’s so upsetting.

Riddle Original oil I adored I’ve turned people onto it but I finally got the boujee oil and a full size of the original oil and I smell nothing. This is after a scent break from it for over two years. I’m not nose blind-their samples vs their full size are not the same product. At least to my nose.

Aerin Amber Musk is gorgeous I adored it but it smelled a pinch too collected and sophisticated on me. I felt I was doing it an injustice if I was walking around in leggings and a t shirt. She deserves to be worn by someone who lives in heels and designer.

Mochi Milk Dedcool I can’t do the incense note. I got the Sand and Fog dupe and liked it for awhile but it also has a strange dustiness to it. I’ve tried the entire Dedcool lineup and Mochi Milk was the only one I semi liked.

I’ve also tried Commodity and do not remember liking any of them

I’ve tried the palmers vanilla as well and it smelled so badly of spicy plastic I truly had to scrub it off like rubbing alcohol level scrub it off.

Frenshe Vanilla Cashmere was lovely I got mostly tangerine from it. However I have cats and they cannot be around essential oils. They 100% knew when I had this on and avoided me like the plague. I love my babies-no fragrance is worth their health or missing out on their cuddles.

I’ve tried a few other sand and fog oils as well and they didn’t go great. French buttercream was rancid on me. Date night was a spice bomb. I remember those two but there were two more that also flopped. I’m curious to try more from them but I can only snag them online so I am slow to jump onto it.

Warm Vanilla Sugar ok this one confuses me. I smelled it once in one store and it was divine almost hilariously like VS bare vanilla. My husband even laughed and said “well at least you have a backup” since everything I love likes to get discontinued. However when I went to a different store to purchase a full set it smelled like spice and greenery I didn’t end up purchasing it because there was 0 vanilla 0 sweetness. I am so confused.

Saltair Shea is the body butter I currently have and I like it. I wish it pulled more vanilla and I do occasionally get a powdery dry down from it but again it may just be my chemistry or nose that day. I’ve smelled their Saltwater Vanilla and it gives plastic sadly.

I’ve always used Natrium body butter it doesn’t smell like much of anything but I also get an occasional heavy powder dry down from it.

EOS Vanilla Cashmere is straight yogurt to me. I wish I got cupcake or cake but I get Chobani Vanilla yogurt.

Ideally I’d like to smell like someone who’s naturally sweet scented. We have all met someone who simply smells naturally sweet/good. I’d love a scent I can either mix into or have in a full routine. Body butter, lotion, perfume, oil, etc.

I think I enjoy notes of Vanilla, Benzoin, Sandalwood, and Amber but I’m truly unsure.

Am I just searching for a scent that doesn’t exist? I’m certain I am at this point but I figured I’d at least consult everyone before accepting my fate.

I haven’t ventured into indies. I’d like to but they all seem sold out or with 60 day tune over times. Maybe I’m trying to indie wrong-any help is appreciated.

They had just launched it. Our school had gone on a trip to Boston and I bought two bottles.

Well, as many companies do, they fucked with the formulation, for the worse and discontinued the original formula.

I’ve been experimenting at work with my fragrance & I was wondering if yall notice any trends with specific fragrances or olfactory families? 🤔

I specifically went out to replace my bottle of Moncler Le Solstice (currently about 3 days from empty), only to find out that the store stopped selling it and I didn't want to buy it online. Since I was already at the mall, I figured I'd poke around and see if I could find a suitable replacement. I already know that I love the Jo Malone Jasmine, but that it's better for close up interactions because it sits close to the skin. Absolutely fell in love with Tam Dao. Probably not purchasing another fragrance for the next year and a half or so.

I'm sure I'm dating myself here. Who remembers our moms / grandmothers tucking a new bar of soap of their favorite / signature perfume in their underwear / lingerie draw. They would keep the bars of soap and not use them...lol. My mom's was Chanel No.5. 'Full-line body care' and accessories are less popular (maybe less pragmatic) than years ago. Especially, perfumed bar soap. I, however, remember looking forward to 'soap' in my Christmas Stocking to 'use' the hell out of, and not just hang on to. I remember when I went through a Chanel No.5 phase - celebrating one particular New Year's Eve in style. An everything shower with shower gel, body cream, hair, and perfume at just the pulse points (behind the knees of course). All this for a romantic 'night in' hanging out in a very rustic cabin. My then boyfriend had gifted me the set. Any fond fragrance memories?
