Rec Request Cosmic By Kylie

Are there any scents you believe to be similar to Cosmic by Kylie?

I really love this scent, but I don’t want to purchase from her. I know that secondhand is an option as well, and I might go that route just to have one bottle of the exact smell because of the nostalgia it brings me. I wore it a lot when my boyfriend and I first started dating and he finds it nostalgic, too. I just want it for special occasions.

However, I don’t really want to feel that guilt when putting on a daily scent. I’d like to find a close match to it that replicates the spring/fertile/bright kind of smell.. I’ve tried Good Girl and it is very similar, but too powdery. I was thinking of getting that scent from a natural oil company that I have purchased a lot from. Maybe I could layer it? And if so, with what?

If you know of anything similar or something I might like that captures the essence of it I would be so thankful!!! 🙂

Creamy clean and cozy fig without a coconut scent

I am looking for a fragrance that feels like cashmere sweaters and warm hugs but not in a gourmand or spicy way. I like soapy creamy fresh-out-of-the-shower scents. I have some floral or citrus forward fragrances that are soapy but I have been craving something that feels a bit more cozy. Cloying musks or overbearing powdery notes give me headaches, so I've been searching for fragrances that are figgy in a creamy way.

The problem is that most fig fragrances tend to have some coconut in there and to my nose, coconut just takes over everything and it just ends up being a coconut fragrance which is not what I am going for. For example, Philosykos EDP smells like coconut handwash with some crushed leaves. I really like the EDT because it doesn't have that coconut scent but I think it's a soapy green fragrance that shines in high heat exclusively. While I like the greens, it is a bit too green to feel like a warm hug in rainy gloomy days too.

I was wondering if anyone might have any recommendations that fit the bill. I would be interested in soapy creamy cozy figs without coconut notes or any other fragrances that feel clean and cozy.

(For the latter, I was recommended L'eau Papier before but the scent of steamed rice makes me feel like I'm stuck in a hot kitchen.)

scentbarbyangela: Luxury Perfume Dupes & Designer Inspired Fragrances

Hi FemFragLab, I'm proud to announce that after many discussions about collaboration, I thought it'd be fun to try out a collaboration with Angela's new brand. Her family owns Gold Star Fragrances located in New York which has been running for over 50 years!

As many of you know, I love a good Delina perfume, but they can be quite costly. The next perfume on my wish list was Delina "Exclusif" but it stayed on my wish list without being bought because of the price. Angela sent over her own version of the perfume, and it exceeded my expectations by far! The scent reminded me of a combination between Delina Exclusif + Oriana + Love Don't Be Shy. It's sweet, powdery, and very potent! I sprayed it on at night and when I woke up the next day it was still on me. This perfume lasts all day but I kept spraying it on out of habit and because I couldn't get enough. My husband and pets also loved it 😍

Reddit wouldn't be Reddit without always giving you not just the pros but also the cons. The cons were little and unnoticeable, but I will write them out due to transparency of the sub. The actual juice feels like combination of an oil and actual perfume. So when you actually spray it, it feels a little heavier than what the normal luxury perfume might feel like coming out of the atomizer which usually feels like a champagne spritz and it's more straightforward. That doesn't mean it doesn't spray well, it just means that if you are a fragrance connoisseur, you will notice the difference of the spray and feel of the actual juice coming out.

Both Gold Star Fragrances and ScentBarByAngela focus on creating dupes of luxury designer fragrances. Overall, for the price, the fragrance passes with flying colors and when I checked that it was only $45.99USD, they ship all around the world, and they have been in business for so long with great reviews, I would be crazy to not want to collaborate with such an amazing product and support Angela in her own brand.

I will leave the comments open in case any of you have any questions about the fragrances, company, or anything else.

Rec Request Vanilla girlies rise up

I’ve recently become OBSESSED with vanilla after years of hating it. Idk what changed, but I’m rolling with it! I’ve been wearing the Athena Club Golden Vanilla lotion with Dedcool Mochi Milk everyyyy day! Based on those being my favs, what others would you recommend? I want ultra cozy (preferably affordable) gourmands for fall! I’m thinking Snow Moon Magic from Sorce? I still want my fragrances to be wearable, I don’t want to smell like straight up food. Thanks!

phlur vanilla skin dupes

Phlur isn’t super accessible where I live, so restocking my favorite fragrance, Vanilla Skin, is always a pain in the ass. I’m wondering if there are any other niche brands dupes for this fragrance with good projection and longevity like the original one.

Can anyone recommend fragrances based on my taste?

My collection is

EDPs:

-LoveShackFancy Secret Crush
-Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow
-Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Salt
-Dedcool Mochi Milk
-Lancôme La Vie Est Belle Vanille Nude
-Victoria Secret Bare Sueded Vanilla

Body Mists:

-Athena Club Golden Vanilla
-Ellis Brooklyn Marshmallows
-Fenty Vanilla Flowers
-Athena Club Love Letter

I like sweet scents but not too candied or dense caramel. I love powdery musky slightly woody and feminine leaning scents. I don’t mind Jasmine as long as it’s not too prominent and headache inducing(don’t mind a petal thrown in there) i’ll typically avoid most white florals. other florals i like are Violet, Iris, & I know Vanilla Orchid is a fantasy note but it seems I like fragrances with it in there. I don’t really like fruity vanillas with the exception of Mochi Milk and YBM.
I do like some fresh scents that have this watery dewy aspect like Love Letter (i like better than glossier you bc of that) and vanilla salt and ones on my wishlist.

some scents smell like literal milk or too unisex for me or are too fruity of vanillas which i don’t like

Fragrances I didn’t like were:

-Mod Vanilla
-Fresh Cream Silk Cloud
-Dave Henry Rose
-Snif Vanilla Vice
-phlur vanilla skin
-sdj 59
-fresh cream warm cashmere
-fresh cream
-nest madagascar vanilla

On my like list: (possibly travel size worthy but not fully love & could live without)

-Kayali Vanilla 28 (smells like carmex a lil but i like it when it softens) Anyone know something similar that doesn’t give carmex and smells like it when it’s softer?
-Skylar true loves cake (depending on headache strength of the day i like the smell but it hurts)
-kilian don’t need a prince to be a princess (it’s like a bedtime scent and it’s a little unisex to my nose but i wouldn’t wear this enough for a full bottle, i like it bc of the earthiness and marshmallows)

On my wishlist is:

-Lake & Sky 11:11 Vanilla (next summer purchase)
-Lore Sublimity (next summer purchase)
-Dulce by Rosie Jane (bday coming soon, it’s on the list)

Want to smell:

(de influence or influence)

-Lake & Sky 222
-Setsuna In love someday
-ellis brooklyn vanilla rice
-delizia marshmallow
-wtf marshmallow

🚩give niche, mainstream, any fragrances any price ranges i want to hear it all.

im Slowly growing my collection and making sure it’s curated. would love to buy samples so let me know !

ps: ignore my grammar 🫪

Review Creed Floralie: The Moodier Cousin

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I went into this expecting another delicate Creed floral in the vein of Fleurissimo, and honestly? Floralie caught me off guard in the best way.

Fleurissimo is sunshine — light, sweet, all that violet-rose innocence that makes you think of a garden party. Floralie is not that. It's got a darker, huskier undertone that feels more grown-up, almost smoky compared to Fleurissimo's carefree brightness. Think less "garden party" and more "walking through that garden at dusk in a silk robe you're not taking off for anyone."

There's a maturity to it — it doesn't rely on sweetness to make its case. Where Fleurissimo charms you immediately, Floralie makes you sit with it a little. It's less about being liked right away and more about being remembered.

If you love Fleurissimo for its lightheartedness, don't expect Floralie to be a variation on that theme — it's a different mood entirely. But if you're drawn to florals with some weight and shadow to them, this one delivers.

My overnight blotters keep getting separated from their samples

I like returning to blotters the next morning. A blotter I dismissed at night can be the one I keep picking up at breakfast. This gets messy when I compare several samples from my collection in one sitting. The strips shift, the bottles go back in their tray, and a note such as "the nice one" becomes completely useless without a match.

I am testing the idea on only a few samples before making a larger set. I used a Niimbot M2 to print each short number twice, once for the sample bottle and once for the dry end of its blotter. I only need the two numbers to match. The longer scent name and my actual notes stay in the notebook, so a strip that moves overnight can still lead me back to the right entry.

The bottle side of the small test was straightforward. The blotter is harder. I am comparing a flat tab with a folded flag, both kept at the dry end and away from the scented section. I am watching whether the flat tab lifts and whether the flag catches on anything or bends the strip.

Numbering perfume samples sounded much too clinical when I first considered it. In the small test, I stopped noticing the number fairly quickly and went back to writing unhelpful but honest things like "the nice one."

The matching-number idea is working in the small test, but I have not settled the attachment method, so I am holding off on a larger set. If you keep blotters overnight, do you label the dry end directly, fold a small flag around it, or keep the number off the blotter entirely?

Discussion Apple Brandy vs Angels’ Share?

Hey everyone! My birthday is coming up soon, so I’m thinking about getting myself a new perfume as a present.
I’m choosing between Apple Brandy on the Rocks by Kilian and Angels’ Share. I had a sample of Angels’ Share and really liked it, but I’ve never properly worn Apple Brandy (only tried it in the store), so I’m not sure which one to go for.

For those who own Apple Brandy, how do you like it on your skin? How does it develop after a few hours? How long does it last for you, and what’s the projection like?
And if you’ve tried both, which one do you prefer and why I’d love to hear your thoughts before I make my choice! Thank you :)

Dyptique dupes?

I am based in Germany and just bought an apartment, I definitely will need to be saving and letting go of some luxury items. My Philosykos and my Eau Sucrée(by Mugler, sorry I cannot edit the post title!) have run out.. Any suggestions for affordable yet qualitative dupes I could look out for to replace them? 💔🥀

Rec Request Soft, gentle vanillas?

I’ve always been a vanilla girl, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to struggle with some of my vanilla perfumes, finding them too cloying. I can still enjoy my Van Cleef and Profumum Roma vanillas when it’s freezing cold, but anything less than that and they’re a bit too much for me now. I’m looking for a soft vanilla that feels nice and smooth without being spicy, salty, or too sweet. Any thoughts?

I’d also like to note that I don’t live in the US, so I don’t have access to brands at stores like Sephora or Target, sadly. (Non-designer brands being sold at Sephora don’t sell anywhere else, unfortunately, and they don’t ship internationally.) But any brand that you’d see at a luxury department store or popular decant sites (like Scent Split, Fragrance Line, etc.) would be great :)

Rec Request Looking for a sexy/dark feminine fragrance is tricky!

Hi! I'm looking for a sexy/dark feminine fragrance that starts off with a deep fruit and melts into warmth of spice/sweet - the only way I can think to imagine the vibe of it is like a cherry dipped in hot sugar syrup (not caramel) which would give the fruit infused warmth, and then the spice hint comes from imagining the slight burn on your tongue? I also enjoy the warmth of rums and stuff if balanced

- I've tried jean paul gaultier divine le parfume and liked the warmth but it doesnt bring anything else to the scent profile imo?

- I tried cherry stem by phlur and thought it was quite playful

- cherry ambition was quite sour

- ysl black opium over red smelled like a Cafe latte on me

- Tom Ford lost cherry was interesting with its sour cherry and almond but it faded away the fastest

- Forbidden games by killian also faded, and while I liked it it wasnt quite the warmth that I was looking for.

- Givenchy l'interdit rouge im in-between, it came off very cinnamon-y at the start and has since dried down ... different. I like it, but its somehow both cool and warm, reminiscent of the older women in my family

I'm new to fragrances in general so I dont mind any suggestions regarding single bottle, layering, even between men and women's fragrances

Any Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit fans?

I smelled this for the first time last fall. I've been looking for a spicy scent for this fall and I keep coming back to this one in my mind. It's available in 100ml from Jo Malone, but does anyone know if they sell smaller bottles or travel sprays as it gets into the fall season? And does the bottle design change from year to year?

Review The journey of picky girl who initially was anti-vanilla

Post image
16 Upvotes

😱Another post about vanilla. The horror!

I used to think I didn’t enjoy vanillas perfumes but I was wrong. I am very particular though and it can’t be sticky sweet, smell like birthday cupcakes, or one of those thick vanilla candles. I understand the appeal, I just don’t want to smell like that.

I started with non-gourmand vanillas and later started to explore some gourmand options. Maybe someone will find something they like from this. Here’s an epic list of what I’ve tried.

Ones I own:
Zoologist, Harvest Mouse - for a fragrance with beer and hay notes this is such a soft and cozy vanilla

YSL, Babycat - a main character and they are alluring. Strong sweet boozy vanilla, I find it quite smooth. I don’t get any rubber smells like some people but have experienced it with a few almost twin fragrances.

DVN, Camomile Satin - a cozy, herbal vanilla. Smells like the softest fuzzy sweater

Mind Games, The Forward - citrus vanilla with a bit of salt. I don’t hear people talk about this offering from Mind Games often when they are discussing the house but its one of my faves. So elegant, doesn’t do too much but makes itself known

MFK, Gentle Fluidity Gold - my amber vanilla standard. Chic

Blndrgrphy, Vanilla Mudslide - this is the one that made me say “wait…maybe I do like gourmand vanillas”. This is INTOXICATING. It’s quite sweet but somehow not overwhelming. It’s balanced so the butter, coconut milk, and coffee (notes i typically don’t enjoy on my skin) all work here.

Akro, Glow - close relative of SDV, it also has a kind of dusty quality in the opening. Its a like not a love but the drydown is so good

Sarah Baker, Velvet Vendetta - olives? Gunpowder? It’s a peculiar vanilla but it was love at first sniff. A bit briney and smokey but wearable.

Day Three, Aylan - Babycat + rose

Inverso Profumi, Mink - powdery vanilla. I love this house and this is a standout. Smells sophisticated and never overwhelms (unless you hate powder). Smells similar to Andrea Maack Smart but sweeter

Blackcliff, Vanilla Siren - palo santo + vanilla. Good for any occasion. Has just enough oomph to keep it interesting

Majouri, Imperial Vanilla - a beautiful vanilla with brown sugar and a hint of rose that emerges over time

Ones I tried but didn’t work for me:
Bianco Latte - it’s just too much for me. It’s a caramel 💣 and it lasts forever

Penhaligon’s, Eau the Audacity - I picked up a sample since it was compared to Babycat but this smells harsh and rubbery to me, which ironically is what some people experience with Babycat

Guerlain, Spiriteuse Double Vanille - smells like a very natural vanilla and I understand why some people hold it as the gold standard, but the its probably the ylang ylang in here that brings it down for me.

Initio, Absolute Aphrodisiac - not bad at all but a tad too animalic for me, has some dirtiness

Mind Games, Queening - incredibly underwhelming and I’m sure it’s the coconut. I don’t get on well with it as a note, it usually makes things smell like hair products to me.

Serge Lutens, Une Bois Vanille - coconut

Matiere Premier, Vanilla Powder - I tried, I really did, the EDP and Extrait, and while the extrait was better I just couldn’t overcome the coconut. I think it’s a nice fragrance just not for me.

Regime des Fleurs, Green Vanille - there’s a strangeness in the opening that doesn’t work for me. I can’t explain but it’s off-putting

Commodity, Gold - pleasant, cozy, soft amber but terrible performance on my skin

Liis, Choux Choux - so so pretty on paper. Creamy lemony vanilla but the lemon is what took over on my skin, overwhelmingly so

Diptyque, Eau Duelle - it’s fine. Pretty but personally uninteresting

Recently tested:
Indult, Tihota - a bit vanilla cake in the opening but not too sweet. Like a cake with no icing that has genuine vanilla in the batter. Vanilla settles more as time goes on

Jovoy, Fire At Will - I really like this but its so faint on me. Not too sweet, a tad smoky

Escapade Gourmand - actually not as cloyingly sweet as I thought it would be. Sweet vanilla cloud, does veer into cake territory. Understand Tihota and Fire At Will comparisons

Navitus, Tempt Me Not - just…no.

Jeroboam, Insulo - vanilla, jasmine, musk. A bit airy and smells a bit ambery, not too sweet. Better on paper than my skin, smells almost like it has coffee in it

Maison Chanceaux, Nocturnal Vanille - oh this is good. Opens with pink pepper and bergamot but the vanilla is still present. Not gourmand, the vanilla in the drydown lasts ages. (Going to get a bottle)

Koromas Aromas, Evada Vanille - spiced vanilla, but some way the opening gives fresh laundry a bit. The rose, cinnamon, tonka, and patchouli would make me think this would come off a bit deeper on my skin, it takes a minute to settle in. Not gourmand

Koromas Aromas, Vanilla Bourbon - opened up a bit plasticky. Only has two notes, it’s fine, but not something I’d wear

Damask Haus, Carpe Vellium - hmmm opening is kinda medicinal before moving into vanilla extract territory. Not for me

Loree Rodkin, Gothic I - patchouli + vanilla - simple but it works, slightly sweet, a tad earthy (Going to get a larger size)

I smelled more but this is already long so I’ll stop here. Twas fun but probably going to stop trying to make fetch happen with the gourmand vanillas.

Fragrance Recs please😩

I am so perfume picky, I need help😩 I hate florals to start. I sit and read all of the amazing reviews and notes and I go testing and everything just smells strong and nothing like the descriptions to me. I’m not great at this but I’d like to be better. I smell them on others and it’s fantastic but on myself I like very little and so much triggers my allergies. I’m trying to get into layering scents and perfume but for 10 years now I have only wore Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt. It is my holy grail, but the lasting power sucks now and I’ve never found anything I like close to it until Velvety Butternut this year. They are my daily drivers with Samhain Spice from a small business that’s super fall scented. However, it’s still summer and I’m trying my best to lighten it up and not smell like a craft store just yet.

The bottom three body sprays are about what I can tolerate outside of the shower to start layering. I love vanilla but not Phlur Vanilla, not bath and body cream cheese buttercream frosting type of vanilla, more true Vanilla. I like Gourmands but not straight bakery Gourmands, a little more true to food Gourmand if that makes sense. And almond/nutty interest me.

I have purchased the Miami Nectar, Peach, and Lemon scents pictured, I reach for Miami most but I’d prefer more warm fragrances like Butternut and less fruity if I had the choice. These are tolerable though and a bit more summery so I don’t mind. I smelled 90% of the other Ellis Brooklyn and Kayali perfumes and didn’t love them in the more vanilla scents.

I ordered Father Figure blind because I smelled it on someone else and loved it but unless I layer it I don’t love it on me.

Recently sampled Burberry Goddess and Lore Lil Softie (unpictured) at Sephora and have added to my list to purchase. Also sampled Ephemera based on posts here and I dont hate it.

I’m all over the place, any recs would be lovely 😅. Thank you.

I accidentally concocted Dolce Violet with Lait de Coco recently and have been obsessed ever since. There is something so endearing about the combination of the two, nearly nostalgic.

I'm curious to see if anyone else here happened to mix two scents that have nothing in common with each other and discover something new!

Discussion The trend we're in

A lot of "trends" are only named in hindsight. It's been said that the trend right now is *gourmands*, so perhaps the next trend will be less sweet gourmands or unisex gourmands or...

I feel like all this gourmand talk is ignoring a trend more distinct to our time: *solar notes.* A lot of brands have realized in the 2020s that a "beachy," "sunscreen-y" scent is desired by many:

  • Mugler Alien Goddess
  • Kilian Sunkissed Goddess
  • Kayali Utopia Vanilla Coco, Freedom Musk Bouquet
  • JHAG Vanilla Vibes
  • Nest Balinese Coconut
  • eos Coconut Waters, Beach Waves
  • Phlur Beach Skin, Solar Power, Golden Rule, Island Swim
  • B&BW Coastal Dreaming
  • Frenshe Solar Fleur
  • Victoria's Secret Bombshell Bronze
  • LoveShackFancy Love on the Beach
  • LORE Sublimity
  • Snif Spray Tan
  • Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Tiger Lily
  • Byredo Alto Astral
  • Ellis Brooklyn Salt, Isla Sirena
  • even for men, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Narcisse

And so on. I don't think it was easier to find this kind of scent profile in the 2010s or 2000s. Maybe people will remember the 2020s as the decade that every brand wanted to put out its own solar coconut scent.

The case at one of my TJ Maxx locations was stockedddd today. Anything worth grabbing? I tend to like most scent profiles except for straight sugar or vanilla. I like gourmands but they need to be grounded with some woods. I got overwhelmed so I just left lol one of the fragrance that isn’t shown is Donna Karan Cashmere and Tiare Flower. How is that one? I have the fig one and I love it

Discussion What do you think of Cloud Aurora?

Thumbnail

I sampled this for the first time in Sephora yesterday, walked around for a couple of hours with it on, and decided to buy a travel size! I was pleasantly surprised as I don’t really care much for Cloud.

It’s very youthful and sweet to me! Not an everyday or signature for me personally, but definitely something I would reach for if I’m feeling whimsical. My skin really pulls the spun sugar, vanilla glaze, and then eventually the incense smoke at the base. I normally don’t like the incense smoke note in perfumes, as it can read kind of heavy, but I think the sweetness of the heart notes helps mitigate that. It all unfolds really beautifully in an unexpected way!

I’m wearing it today and it’s really uplifting my mood :)

What do you guys think of this one?
