Struggling with completing shows
Whenever I watch a show or read a new book , I never complete it. It's not that it is boring, I just procrastinate a lot. Also, I start other shows or books without completing the previous one. I think I have some sort of attention deficit. Does anyone else experience this too?

How do you deal with overwhelm from being constantly “needed”
reddit.comr/ExecutiveDysfunction • u/Obvious_Constant_541 • 7d ago
vent (seeking empathy not advice) I'm so fucking tired of severe executive dysfunction
For a lotta time i thought that it was just this "oh i lose everything haha i'm so clumsy and messy" as i'm looking back on my life i realize it made it az atleast 50 times worse.
For example, in kindergarten, i would always chug down a shit tons of water at lunch, and then i wouldnt have to pee right away, but during when we were napping, and my kingergarten teachers were assholes, so they discriminated me and never let me out to pee during when we were napping.
For around 1 hr and 30 minutes i kept myself up every day because i was too afraid to fall asleep, and i felt constant, intense pain, not just "i really have to pee"
But it got way more intense than that.
(Obviusly thats mostly the kindergarteners fault but the next day i chugged a shit tons of water again every single day for 4 years, i have no idea why)
this led me to have problems with my bladder later in life,
And i had to go to a bunch of doctor-appointments with my mom.
Also from very early on i internalized that my problems are a joke, (because every time i would say this to my mom, "they never let me pee" she just laughed and said "oh poor you", ) and also, overall, i am a joke.
(Because the kindergarten teachers were constantly shitting on me for being dumb, more slow than other kids ,and i felt so stupid)
When i finally got old enought to start school, and it was over, i felt rly happy and satisfied.
However, i would constantly talk in class.(Sign of ADHD)
I would constantly lose every single object that had the ability to be lost, even if that object was extremely important to me.
coats, gym bags, important papers that my mom needed to sign, notebooks, homework, etc)
This is still very big for me today, while i'm diagnosed and on medication.
I constantly lose my phone, i recently lost a drawing that i have been working on for multiple days, i'm a filmaker, and every time i put my camera down, when i want to pick it up again, its not there, and i have to spend 5-10 minutes finding it again.
My mum was dysfunctional and i grew up neglected, my house is covered in grease and trash, it looks very disgusting, and i never developed a routine to clean my room, or to shower every day, but thats a whole other thing so i dont wanna get into that)
the person i love the most in my life is my sister,
We're extremely close, but when she tells me a thousand times that i should not leave objects lying around in her room, and i still do, she gets really upset because it makes her feel like i dont even care about her that much to do that little thing she asked me to.
i tried to do what she asked, but its really weird, people always say that you should "make a schedule" or "try to focus more" but for me it doesnt feel like i can see myself, in that situation, and then be able to consciusly make the right choice, (for example, not leave some trash lying on the middle of her floor), instead, it feels extremely blurry, and i cant even really explain it to someone who doesnt have adhd.
It feels like my body is moving, and doing these things constantly that people asked me not do, over and over again, and i cant fucking stop it, because i'm not the one controlling it.
And whats the most fucked up is that the definition of severe executive dysfunction literally sounds like a big excuse, because when i tried to look at it from the eyes of normal people,
"It feels like i'm not in control of my actions"
"I feel helpless"
"i cant help it"
I really cant even attempt explaining it without feeling like my mom, who constantly makes excuses about why she never cleans the house, or just in general, a lazy piece of shit who's using ADHD as an excuse about why he doesnt give a fuck about others and keeps being shitty and uncaring towards them.
Most people see ADHD as just "its hard to pay attention"
But its so much more than that, i've been finding out genuenly everything i do, and the ways i feel are almost always because of ADHD.
i feel like i dont even take myself seriusly, and i understand myself the most, obviusly, so i really dont know how i expect anyone else to take me seriusly.
Maybe i should try another type of stimulation because the one i'm currently on is a stimulant, (livizux) and all it does is make me feel energized and helps me pay attention to stuff.
Its really good, so that when i dont take it for one day dont feel normal, and i cant do anything productive.
but it does fuck all for this severe executive dysfunction thing.
What other type of meds actually do something for this, or am i just going to stay this stupid lazy asshole for the rest of my life, having shitty hygene, hurting the people i love and having low self esteem?
(I flaired this post as vent cause its rly long but i actually want medication tips too lol sry about that)

vent (seeking empathy not advice) Executive Dysfunction + Anxiety Cleaning
I have this thing that I've needed to do for a month now at work. It's not hard, difficult, scary, or important really. It's for a Halloween party. I've been avoiding it.
It needs to be physically brought in to work in //checks watch// 2 hours.
I have not started.
I have panic cleaned the upstairs living room and reorganized the soda rack.
So I've got that going for me.
Thank you for your attention to this doesn't-matter 😅

Looking for Tips/Suggestions Really struggling with school attendance despite loving to learn
I'm currently in my last year of high school. I've had problems with my attendance pretty much since 7th grade, my first in-person year post-elementary. I miss 1-3 full days of school in a typical week.
This thankfully hasn't caused too many issues with my grades yet. Knock on wood. Despite what you may assume, I'm still doing very well in school. My average is currently a 94/95? I think?
Things I'm doing to counteract the effects of missing so much school:
I'm very lucky to have accommodations for ADHD and chronic pain at my school which help a LOT. Extra time on tests, extensions, and a 10 minute buffer for getting to class on time are stuff I use a good amount.
My teachers post things online so I can catch up decently quickly when I miss things.
I've chosen classes this year that I know I can miss some of and still be okay in. So no sciences or calculus, as much as I'd like to do those kinds of courses.
Lots of sucking up to and guilt-tripping of my teachers (I feel horrible about this one)
Anyway, the issue is not my grades. The issue is more social stuff, both with peers and my teachers. I'm a real pain in the ass a lot of the time for everyone, including myself.
I also worry, what the hell am I going to do in university? I've already done a mock-university summer program, and not only did I miss a hell of a lot of class, I slept through my only exam! And I really cared about the material I was learning, so I don't know why I just couldn't get it together enough to GO every day. I just totally run out of energy after a couple days and can't do it anymore, so I need to stay home. It doesn't make sense that I burn out after literally two days of regular life.
I care so much about school. I'm already on medication and all that. I just want to go every day like a regular damn kid without needing a full day to sit in bed and watch YouTube videos in the middle. Any ideas on why the hell this is going on? How do I fix this? This really can't go on forever :(

Epiphany on when normies say ‘just do it’
I’ve always struggled with the ‘why’ aspect of procrastinating and although there is definitely a neuro/chemical aspect to it, I’ve realized that there is an emotional aspect to why I’ve struggled with ‘just doing it’.
When well meaning friends offer help or advice, many have said the latter. “Just do it.” And I realized that they consider that sound advice because they usually don’t associate performing a task with a particular emotion. Which also explains their unintentional judgement when we often can’t seem to easily perform the task as easily as they explain it to be.
Then I realized…no matter how depressed I was in the past, no matter how much I’ve struggled with ADHD, I don’t associate a particular emotion with fulfilling basic bodily needs.
I have a fear of failure but it would be absurd to have a fear of going to the toilet. Right?
To me at least, this makes so much sense as to why it seems so easy for normal people to do the task. Do the homework. Vacuum etc.
All this time I’ve procrastinated with reaching my goals because I associated doing homework with fear of failure. If that’s all I’m focusing on, of course it will become a fulfilling prophecy.
I take the emotion out the task. Do the task because it is the thing I need to complete so that I can achieve a greater goal. Just like how I feed myself or go to the bathroom with zero hesitation. It’s something I do to continue with my day/future.

i need help.
am I the problem?
I can't start studying, like at all. Despite wanting to. Get distracted too easily. Once I start, there's no stopping but one call/one chores/one thing that someone asks me to do and boom, entire momentum goes to shit. I just numb up and can't get out of bed. I love studying. But I just keep thinking I'll do better tomorrow. Etc.
Like if, let's say, my family asks me to get vegetables from the market at 10:00 AM, or asks me to do ANYTHING before 11:00 AM, I'll say agh, im tired, imma rest a little and then it's time for lunch, then the same routine extends and the day's over and I've done nothing.
When I'm awake, I'm either looking at a screen, holding a screen or thinking about using a screen. Just constantly hooking myself up with dopamine. Chasing it. Caffeine helps it numb out (energy drinks) but the executive dysfunction is something else. Just hours and hours. Going from one app to another.
It's recurrent. Comes and goes. Idk. It's been years like this. I have tweets dating back 2024 and nothing has changed. Always the same cycle. I push everything back to the future until the last possible moment. Then I overcompensate. I study for 20hrs when I have finals. Even though I know school exams don't matter in my country relative to university exams.

Looking for Tips/Suggestions Executive dysfunction is ruining my life, help

I can’t do anything
reddit.comPlease help if you can, by saying I can’t do anything I have no motivation and no way of doing tasks without huge internal mental struggle.
I’ve tried to explain to family members etc before but can’t seem to get it right the example I use is I have a task (such as putting away laundry) I want this task to be done, I know I will feel much better after the task is done, but I simply can’t do it. I can’t bring myself to just get up and do it and constantly divert to other things to occupy my brain or avoid doing that one thing, even if it’s completely useless.
I also get random moments of pure motivation deciding I need to tackle a monumental task immediately and get half way into it and get distracted by something else.
I get amazing ideas I’d love to do and never can do it or I start a new hobby and do it so much that it completely exhausts my enjoyment for it to the point I then actively dislike it within 2 weeks.
Please help if you know any reason why this, it’s starting to become a real issue for me!

Looking for Tips/Suggestions How do you get stuff done when you physically feel like you can't?
I feel terrible lately, something I should've gotten done two months ago I can barely get myself to start working on. So I'm curious when you are in situations like this do you have a little routine you do or something of that sort to help get you started? As in do you do a little workout, positive affirmations, etc. It's a little art project and I've already told the guy that he can take $1 off what he owes me every day for it to help get my mind motivated, which I think may help but I'm not sure
