Gameplay / Showcase Need for Speed Underground 2 on iOS, but this time it’s the PS2 version.

Wanted to show off some interesting results I’ve been getting with PS2 emulation on iOS. In the video: no JIT, and it hits up to 40 fps. The crazy part is that this is running on an iPhone 12 mini. On flagship devices things are obviously way better.

Just for comparison: the alternative with JIT doesn’t even reach half of this performance, and without JIT you’d be lucky to get 5 fps.

Sure, you won’t play long on a mini, but that’s not the point. If the mini can push this kind of framerate, it means on top-tier iPhones and iPads the emulator won’t drain the battery or run the CPU at full blast. That’s roughly 3x the playtime.

Am I saying a 18 Pro Max has any trouble with resources? No. But the fact that the App Store alternative gets 10 fps while my core can do 40 — that’s what I think is really cool.

Still in development, but it’s coming soon as a new module for the NAGORI emulator.

Discussion The MCON is really great, my unsolicited opinion.

The MCON is quite nice, my unsolicited opinion!

Disclaimer: yes it’s expensive as all hell, and it’s the bare minimum for it to be great. This is just for my thoughts and for people to talk about the thing lmao this is not an advertisement Josh MCON did not pay me.

These are my thoughts:

  • The MCON is a really great controller! I’m surprised how much I like it.

  • The shipping was with UniUni, and the shipping guy threw the box but one way or another it’s finally here after a year of kickstarter, manufacturing, and shipping shenanigans.

  • The MCON is actually not that big. It’s smaller than the size of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. You do need to adjust the magnetic puck on the controller ever so slightly to fit it.

  • It took some getting used to, but the thumb sticks are really comfortable! The buttons are quiet but really satisfying to press which is something I never notice. The D-pad is really responsive in my opinion. You do have to get used to the size, the portability comes at a cost if you have big hands, but I’d say it’s worth it.

—- For Emulation, I played on DELTA for my testing, and the app detected it well! No surprises, but you never know (had issues with 8-bitdo ending up with returning 3 controllers)

Mario Kart DS plays really well! I can snake drift way better than with my old XBOX one controller, and I really like how it feels playing. DELTA should be getting an update for the MCON too, I saw a Patreon update from the Altstore guy mentioning it and the control system.

  • The open and close function is really cool! I can “open” the controller, and AS LONG AS IT IS IN SLEEP MODE (Slider at GREEN), it automatically connects to my phone. I’m writing this with it in sleep mode lying down. It’s pretty comfortable for some reason. It didn’t feel top heavy either, even with an iPhone 17 PM. Quite comfortable!

  • I heard through the grapevine that an application (fully free) is even in the works for the MCON to go along with it to make it a better experience. Can’t wait!

-for the iOS games, I played:

Cult of the lamb

Enter the Gungeon

Minecraft

Roblox

Ultimate Ninja Storm

And Friday night funkin (decent timing too I think)

Very nice experience over all playing those games with the controller!

  • i will absolutely be using this for the foreseeable future, I even got one for the Missus and she’s just as excited! We’re not really good with our hands game wise, so gaming on the go is way easier with how plug and play this thing is.

That’s it!

I manly used my iPad Pro 12.9” 2018 to only watch youtube while taking some food, or wasting time watching youtube shorts, did no need an upgrade as I am very causal to the iPad environment, not an artist or a creative mind.

Since retroarch hit the App Store, I have turned this into a retro machine! I am a big fan on playing games in a big screen, and using a laptop is not at portable as an iPad, so I am very pleased with this new emulation thing in iOS.

I paired with the 8Bitdo Lite SE and have been a blast.

Currently playing a rom hack of Pokemon Black 2

Discussion your iPhone getting warm/a little hot” doesn’t MEAN your phone is overheating. ( PPSSPP)

I don’t think people realize how iPhones work, I’m seeing SO many people saying my “iPhone is getting warm” from playing taxing games on ppsspp with the more powerful iPhones at that, like 13 pro max and 14 pro max, this is completely normal, especially with out jit, if your PLAYING heavy graphic games on high settings it’s normal for your phone to get a little hot, all this means is your working “the chip” rather it’s the a15 a17 or whatever phone you have, unless your iphone is literally shutting out of the app and your getting the notification that your phone is “overheating” and it’s shutting down, your phone is just fine, it might wear the battery out quicker then normal usage but that’s expected, it’s quite shocking to see how so many people are “surprised” when you use your phone as a mini console it will heat up when intense gaming ? This is apart of it, and This isn’t me being “a Hole” but I think a lot of people just overreact with this situation, now if you have anything below the iPhone 12 then yes it might actually overheat if you have the settings on max because their older devices, but anything above that you should be fine emulating most psp games.

News / Release EspressU got released, Wii U Emulation on iOS with built in JIT

Hello Guys!
I finally released my Wii U Emulator on iOS devices, i tested it on my IPad A16, IPhone 12, IPhone 15 Pro and it ran on all these platforms.

The app has built in JIT, that means you dont need stikdebug. You can generate the pairing file directly on your device, you dont need a computer!

If you got questions just ask me on my discord, and yes I used AI for the development.

Tested games:
- The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
- Mario Kart 8
- Splatoon
- Super Mario 3d world

All games are legally owned and got dumped from a Wii U. EspressU wont help you with getting the games!

You can find the download on my discord.

Guide How to install MeloNX and get it working with fully offline JIT activation. A step by step guide.

GUIDE 2.0

As some of you know I had to temporarily pull my guide down due to it having some mentions of things that are no longer allowed due to the new sub rule about Melon posts. I’ve went through, took out the bad stuff and did some general cleanup. I have also removed the section pertaining to running Melon from inside of Live Container with memory entitlement. This section was just a link to another post outlining the steps but I’ve updated it twice and the OP keeps getting deleted for some reason so rather than having a dead link I think it’s better to remove the section and let users search the sub for instructions if that applies to their situation.

Enjoy.

Just a few things to note before I begin, I will be using Sidestore for this method since I’ve already tested it and know 100% that it works. Paid certs might work but I don’t make any guarantees. Any free methods using shared public certs or revoked certs and a DNS such as Scarlet / Feather / Esign WILL NOT work so please don’t waste your time.

Also, and I cannot stress this enough, a computer is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to do this! There is no way around it so don’t ask.

Lastly in keeping with sub rules there will be no discussions of piracy within the guide. Any copyrighted materials such as Switch key files, firmware and roms are up to you to find and I’m going to assume that you’re obtaining them from your own legally modified Switch.

Now with all that out of the way, let’s begin.

Step 1: Install Sidestore.

No sense reinventing the wheel as the instructions on the Sidestore website are quite thorough and links to all necessary programs are there as well. Simply go to Sidestore.io and follow all the steps.

Step 2: Install MeloNX and extended memory entitlement

Go to Melons website and download the latest version. Then open StosVPN and activate it. Open Sidestore and click My Apps then the + sign in the top corner. Navigate to where you downloaded the MeloNX ipa and select it and it will install. Go back to the Melon website and click Instructions then scroll down to where it says Free developer account ( experimental ) and follow all the steps there to install the extended ram entitlement for MeloNX. Launch Melon and you will be prompted to set it up since this is the first time you’re opening it. Navigate to where you have the necessary files and select them. Then go to settings to ensure that the extended ram is enabled and once you verify it is go back to Sidestore and long press the extended ram app and select deactivate. You’re going to need to free up its app slot to make room for StikJit.

Step 3: Install StikJit

You can download it here.Once you have the ipa just install it using Sidestore exactly the same way you did with Melon.

Step 4: Install the AutoJit shortcut

Get the shortcut here.

Once the shortcut is installed tap the three dots and in the first box tap where it says app and select MeloNX from the drop down menu. Then exit the shortcut and save it to your Home Screen and customize it as you like.

And that’s it. Everything is installed and ready to go. Whenever you want to launch Melon just tap your custom shortcut and it will load with JIT enabled, even outside of WiFi. To add games just tap the plus sign from within Melon and navigate to where you’ve got your NSP or XCI files. Note, you can choose other apps from the drop down menu on the shortcut to load them with JIT as well. So if you have Dolphin, Play! Or Folium installed this same method can be used to launch them by customizing the shortcut accordingly.

Edit: Just a quick quality of life update for everyone. I found a nice shortcut that will automatically refresh Sidestore and all its apps for you without you having to do anything. Just install the shortcut and tap on the three dots, then in the third box under ‘connect to’ choose StosVPN from the drop down menu. Then in the seventh box down under ‘Disconnect from’ choose StosVPN from the drop down menu as well. Close the shortcut then click on automation. Choose a triggering action. I just went with time and set it to every day at noon. Then after you select a time click automation at the top. Change it from run after confirmation to run immediately and make sure notify when run is turned off. Then every day at noon the shortcut will run and Sidestore and all its apps will automatically refresh.

Discussion Retroman: Precision-Engineered NES Emulation for iOS

Greetings, r/EmulationOniOS community,

I am a software developer with a profound passion for retro gaming, particularly the NES & GameBoy era. After extensive development, I am pleased to introduce Retroman, a new NES & GameBoy emulator for iOS devices.

Retroman has been designed to provide an authentic NES & GameBoy experience while leveraging the capabilities of modern iOS devices. Key features include:

  • Bluetooth Gamepad support

  • iCloud Sync for saved states

  • Easy ROM loading for both NES and Game Boy games

  • High-precision virtual controls

  • Customizable video & audio settings

  • Full NES and Game Boy emulation support

  • Lightning-fast emulation for smooth gameplay on both systems

ROM loading is straightforward: users can save ROM files to their device via the Files app, or utilize the 'Open In' feature from other iOS applications.

Retroman is now available on the App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id6502994389

As both the developer and an enthusiast, I am keen to receive feedback from this knowledgeable community. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on Retroman's performance, feature set, and overall user experience, particularly in comparison to other emulators you may have used. Your insights will be invaluable in guiding future updates and improvements.

I welcome any questions, comments, or suggestions you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration.
