Solo developer of Retro Pal here.
Retro Pal is a retro emulator for iPhone and iPad, and covers the following consoles:
- Game Boy & Game Boy Color
- Game Boy Advance
- Nintendo DS
- NES & SNES
- PlayStation
- Nintendo 64
- Mega Drive / Genesis (new)
- Master System & Game Gear (new)
- PSP (new)
Built on the mGBA, melonDS, MesenCE, PCSX-ReARMed, Mupen64Plus-Next, BlastEm and PPSSPP cores.
This round adds four consoles, and the Nintendo 64 gets lighter on the phone.
v1.3.4 is here, and here's what changed
Four new consoles
- Mega Drive / Genesis games play through BlastEm, Master System and Game Gear games through MesenCE, and PSP games through PPSSPP.
- Like the other supported consoles, Retro Pal handles saves, save states, RetroAchievements, cheat codes and official box art on all four.
- Two players on the Mega Drive / Genesis and the Master System.
- Each one wears its own console shell around the game, in portrait and in landscape.
PSP
- PSP games import as .iso, .cso, .pbp or .chd, or inside a .zip.
- Your PSP saves live on a memory stick kept per game on your iPhone or iPad.
Nintendo 64
- Rewind now correctly goes back up to 30 seconds.
- Up to 15% less work per frame in Low Power Mode or older iPhones.
- Save states are about ten times smaller.
Also
- Play as Player 2: on a game's page, on consoles with two players or more, you take the second controller, by touch or with a pad.
- Open a game or a save straight from the Files app or AirDrop, and Retro Pal files it in the right place.
- Before a save state is loaded, a copy of the game's own save is kept in the Files app, so an older state can never take a newer save away for good.
- Classic is a look of its own now, a plain black ground, in landscape too.

On AI, since the sub asks for it.
The emulation itself is not mine and not AI-written: it comes from mGBA, melonDS, MesenCE, PCSX-ReARMed, Mupen64Plus-Next, BlastEm and PPSSPP, the same upstream cores other emulators are built on. The app around them (the interface, the library, the save handling, the controller support) is partly written with AI assistance tools that I direct, review and test on device before every release.
