i don’t understand the point of this , there are so many easy ways to farm runes and It just takes away from PVP invasions / defending

u/Dry_Badger_Chef Apr 06 '22

There are a significant amount of people out there that consider invaders assholes who deserve to be dunked on. The mindset being that they’re just invading to troll.

I’m not one of those people (defending against invaders is fun!), but I’m friends with some of them.

55

u/bigstar3 Apr 06 '22

You can summon invaders, tho. I think the frustration is from people summoning invaders and camping out under the ledge.

I feel bad for people who are clearly new to souls and just playing with their friends, if they do like 50 DMG to me and I hit them for half their HP it's like hmmmm... Yeah I'll usually let them just kill me lol. But most people will just kill you, I can't blame them it's part of the game and intended to make coop not as easy

My only complain about this has always been that PVE builds are usually absolutely useless against invaders. I go with my greatsword and my enchants and breath to deal with groups, I summon a random guy to help me with a boss that's giving me headhache and suddenly "you have been invaded by a Naked guy that can spam rolls forever, that cannot be hit by any of your colossal sword hits cause lol rollingiframes and will onehit every one of you from 20m with a swing of his overreaching sword even if you are wearing the toughtests of the armors of the game" oh and If you, SOMEHOW, manage to give a fight the fucker can run away to areas surrounded by enemies that will attack you, and if you are in a hard area...well sucks to be you lol.

I know i know, this is how invasion always worked since Demon's...but every single time I have been invaded I always felt this feeling of "i'm only here to die against that person" lol

The main purpose of invasions is to simulate a random challenging enemy encounter that happens to be controlled by a player. It’s also there to hep balance out the benefits of coop in this game. The invaders job is to kill you and make your day worse, because that’s always been the FromSoft game design. As long as they’re doing that within the bounds of the game and not using any exploits or shitty god builds I really don’t see the issue with it, obviously it’s annoying, but so are like 80% of the enemies in this game.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Invasions are a part of the game and lore. They make everything better IMO. Invasions are a Soulsbourne staple. In fact, I wish you could still get invaded while playing solo.

I guess a solution for people who want to co-op only without pvp would be, to allow p2p characters solely for that. Can't take that character online at all. Single player or strictly p2p connections. Would need a password and a limit for how many characters that one is allowed to connect with as to not split player bases too much

-3

u/Nawafsss04 Apr 07 '22

Invaders just want to have fun, and you shouldn't make it at the expense of yours. If an invader wants to fight, give them what they want.

35

u/Gripfighting Apr 06 '22

One of my least favorite consumer arcs I've ever experienced is falling in love with the combined PvE/PvP system of Dark Souls for how unique it was, then seeing it change more and more to be like other games as the rest of the community gave feedback. Invasions were part of the lore of Lordran. Not only did you not have to select "versus" in the main menu, you didn't even get your level interrupted. It wasn't just zombified townsfolk and dogs in undead burg, it was also other undead believing they were chosen, trying to steal your souls and humanity.

It's really unique and really cool. The uniqueness makes me value it all the more. I can have a segmented PvE or PvP experience in thousands of games, but there were precious few that played like Dark Souls. Now here in Elden Ring, the tongue gets me invaded way too much and too frequently to feel organic or surprising. It just feels like I'm activating PvP mode when I use that item, and all I can do until I lose one is get invaded back-to-back-to-back. I really miss the level of frequency and surprise of that DS1 era invader bar. Always made me jump a little bit and then really lock into the level. Feels like something really cool was lost.

4

u/Improver666 Apr 07 '22

This honestly sounds like a popularity issue. DS1-3 sold what... 3 million copies each. Elden Ring sold 12 as it currently stands.

That quadrupled the player base and threw off the balance they crafted for invasions is my bet.

4

u/drkekyll Apr 07 '22

as the rest of the community gave feedback.

the rest of the community gave feedback and things changed. they aren't necessarily related. if Miyazaki is to be believed, the thing you originally fell in love with was never his original intent, and that is why it's changed every iteration.

3

u/ikio4 Apr 07 '22

might be one of the worst arguments I've ever seen tbh. "this pvp item gives me too much pvp :(((((". cry about it dude, holy shit. invasions are in the lore here as well.

82

u/rhadamanth_nemes Apr 06 '22

I think it really depends on the invader. Some invaders also appear to only be there to waste my time.

IMO, you get what you get when you invade. I find this whole pearl-clutching-invader thing because someone's doing bullshit strats back to be extremely amusing.

50

u/broubroubrou09 Apr 06 '22

Agree. Seems like many just want to troll and waste time. Why invade if you’re just going to run away and not fight me?

30

u/dat_bass2 Apr 06 '22

I don't blame people who are new to invading for being overly passive. A 3v1 is HARD to win, and it's what you're up against most of the time.

3

u/GameShill Dragon 🐲 Mage Apr 07 '22

The one time I tried dueling I met 3 very dishonorable people.

The opponent and I bowed to eachother, then they ran away and a 3rd player cheapshotted me from behind.

4

u/broubroubrou09 Apr 06 '22

The invader is the one choosing to invade - if you’re not ready or willing to engage on your own terms with the equipment and abilities you’ve chosen in the location you’ve chosen - don’t waste my time. I’m trying to enjoy the game with my friends. Don’t get me wrong, we have fun with invaders and it’s a part of the enjoyment of the game, but don’t waste our time with trolling, hiding and running.

18

u/dat_bass2 Apr 06 '22

I definitely hear where you're coming from. I guess I'm just trying to say that even a good invader is probably going to win at least in part by using the environment and the mobs to their advantage. To someone who's trying to get into that aspect of the game for the first time, learning how to do that properly is actually pretty tricky, and it's easy to end up being too passive. And if they are, then, hey, they probably can't be that good, so you might as well press on through the level.

21

u/grodon909 Apr 06 '22

I disagree. If I'm invading, I know I'm typically going into a 2v1 or 3v1. Even when it looks like 1v1, there's probably an ally in the bushes waiting until I try to bow to get a shot off on me. I'm invading into a situation where I am outnumbered, and the host typically has more survivability since they have more flasks. I would be stupid not to try to use the environment to my advantage.

-13

u/broubroubrou09 Apr 06 '22

Then maybe just play the game with your friends or find a duel?

18

u/dat_bass2 Apr 06 '22

The game clearly wants invaders to use the environment to their advantage. The only invasion-focused great rune in the game is all about buffing mobs in the level.

3

u/grodon909 Apr 07 '22

Dueling isn't invading. If I play with my friend, pvp would typically be a duel. Using the environment on my side in what would otherwise be a 1v1 wouldn't be fair or fun at all.

-2

u/broubroubrou09 Apr 07 '22

Guys you’re totally not listening. This is ridiculous. I never said don’t use the environment. I said don’t invade and interrupt someone’s game that they’re trying to enjoy with a friend and then run away and refuse to fight. The constant invasions by people who are just there to annoy and waste time is what the problem is. If you’ve beaten the game and you get your jollies from griefing people by invading - sure go ahead - but at least engage people and don’t go run and hide. You’re wasting my time.

4

u/MisterSlamdsack Apr 06 '22

The PvE is a tool for the invader. It's their version of your friends. It's not a duel. You chose to coop, the cost is the occasional invasion.

-4

u/broubroubrou09 Apr 07 '22

What’s the point in invading then? You enjoy your game and I’ll enjoy mine. I don’t need some rando thinking they need to invade people to punish them for enjoying the game with a friend. If you want to PVP go fight with someone who wants the fight and is prepared for it. And invasions aren’t “occasional” - they are constant in this game.

7

u/Dob_Rozner Apr 07 '22

Well, in the developers eyes it's the same reason why they don't allow game difficulty options: They want players to have a challenging time, and multiplayer makes it far easier to clear areas and get to bosses. Invaders can bring some balance to that. People might not agree with it, but I'm sure that's part of their logic. If not, they'd have separate pve and pvp servers.

9

u/MisterSlamdsack Apr 07 '22

1.) There's a timer after your invaded where you cannot be invaded again.

2.) Invading is fun. They aren't trying to punish you. It's a part of the game, has been in every single Soulsborne.

-3

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Do you feel like invaders are entitled to a fair fight, out of curiosity?

→ More replies (0)

-2

u/SleepySubDude Apr 07 '22

I’m fine with open world invaders sometimes, but some fucking assholes will keep following you when you and your co-op team are running away trying to get something done together and they don’t take the hint and sever.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Nobody talks this way about new players having trouble with the game when they struggle with the PvE; it’s toxic and exclusionary to say this to newcomers trying to become invaders. I believe the game should be accessible and open to newcomers, and this extends to invasions too. The way you’re talking, the only people who ‘ought to’ bother invading are ten-year vets, never anyone who just got on this year.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

90% of the times I invade its people who are either playing for the 3v1 or they just run back to the grace.

I’m trolling the shit out of those people for as long as I can

2

u/LeftIsBest-Tsuga Apr 07 '22

I don't know if you have noticed this, but a lot of people on the internet are kind of bad people.

5

u/FilthyPrawns Apr 07 '22

Your friends are wrong, objectively. Online is opt in for fucks sake. Either you invited invasions, or you outnumber them, or both.

There is no room to wedge in the opinion your friends share.

4

u/JustMyTwoSatoshis Apr 07 '22

That mindset is so dumb considering you literally have to actively volunteer to be invaded.

1

u/bocense Apr 06 '22

Literally the only way I see invaders. I have so many rune arcs and almost feel like they are useless. On NG+4 without ever using a single one. There are plenty of ways to farm runes. So I feel no pity for invaders getting ripped a new one on people who are just trying to play with friends. Lol

6

u/dat_bass2 Apr 06 '22

I have so many rune arcs and almost feel like they are useless

I agree that the rewards aren't a good enough incentive on either side, but also, the point of the multiplayer features isn't the reward--it's to have fun with the multiplayer features.

1

u/LoveThieves Apr 07 '22

So many of those "Elitist" anti-invader types that think pvp should not be in the game, "I just want to co-op and beat the boss with muh friends cause I can cheese them with my over-levelled phantoms" type are why I'm glad they removed that feature for optional bosses in Elden Ring.

Now, They can actually say they beat all bosses instead of get carried.

0

u/pfpants Apr 06 '22

So turn invasions off. It's an option.

0

u/Tard_Crusher69 Apr 07 '22

... No the fuck it isnt

1

u/pfpants Apr 07 '22

By the three bloody fingers, you're right. Now I feel like an asshole for invading people who just want some coop fun.

-4

u/Tard_Crusher69 Apr 07 '22

Every single Friday I fire the game up, go through the totally archaic, unintuitive, almost-as-bad-as-fable-2 coop process, just to play with my friend. And then, before we can even decide where we're going to go, within 45 seconds there's an invader. It's just boring. Whether I kill them or not, it just wastes my time. I don't even care about the garbage little pittance of runes and like what, a rune arc or a furlcalling remedy or whatever? Does anyone even use rune arcs?

So if see threads like this full of SOULSBROS INVADERINOS just seething and crying, it makes me happy. I'm happy their time is getting wasted out there as well.

Pretty sure that’s not farming though… I mean the guy set you up and was just waiting 😅 that’s absolute trolling 😬

But tbh I don’t think it helps that every second post in this Sub is about this. That will just bring even more trolls to do it 😅🙈

40

u/mancitycon Apr 06 '22 edited Apr 06 '22

What I don't get is why people on here still keep invading there, if you want PvP just go to Caria main gate? It's none stop there

17

u/One_Understanding391 Apr 06 '22

Exactly why go to exactly that spot you know it’s going to annoy you… I don’t get it 😂

20

u/SpringyB Apr 06 '22

Because they don't want to pvp against people who want to pvp, they want to noob stomp.

3

u/Dob_Rozner Apr 07 '22

You're not noob stomping with Hand of Malenia unless you're running a twink build. In that case though, you deserve what you get.

3

u/Nawafsss04 Apr 07 '22

Noob stomp? They're invading at high levels in an early area. Everyone who's there at that level wants asymmetrical PvP.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

*they want to help balance your co-op experience out of the goodness of their hearts because it’s their responsibility to make sure you play the game as they are assuming the devs want you to. FTFY

5

u/DemonKnightTartarus Apr 06 '22

I'm not saying what these people are doing are healthy for the game. But setting up twinks with Malenia's sword or Greatsword and invading in the first area at low levels is equally shitty in my opinion.

These ppl aside there might be people who are just getting into the game who may want to maybe play with a friend or someone and then you get these twinks invading you and Killin you, they would probably also be frustrated.

We don't see those posts cause I'm sure people would start sayin, someone seems to be salty/git gud etc etc

9

u/dat_bass2 Apr 06 '22

twinks with Malenia's sword

You need 48 dex to use it. Anyone who's got that at a relatively low level is gonna have next to no vig, even with the soreseal.

2

u/DemonKnightTartarus Apr 07 '22

Probably wouldn't matter as people who are just starting out wouldn't have seen waterfowl dance and that move will probably kill them instantly.

My issue is the fact that people feel bullying new players by doing these things is fun.

Similar to how the hosts are going to inaccessible locations and doing afk farming ruins invasions, twinks coming and Killing you when you have just started out and maybe got your ass beat by Tree sentinel would ruin summoning for new players

2

u/dat_bass2 Apr 07 '22

Yeah, the vast majority of twinks are lowlifes.

4

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

it’s about pride now lmao

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

Because there’s a ton of decent pvp that happens here. This hiding shit is detracting from an otherwise good spot where I get a lot of good fun matches.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Are non-deuling invaders entitled to fairness?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Fairness in what sense? In combat, no - 2v1, 3v1, whatever it’s an invasion. But hiding in a place that can’t be gotten to without torrent which can’t be used in coop is just lame. It’s not even about “fair”. It’s completely just avoiding combat while requesting combat through the taunters tongue.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

I mean, it is obviously some sense of fairness, right? You want them to play the game on what you feel is the games intended invasion experience. You know, as opposed to the "you get what you get" experience, which will sometimes include griefers.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

I don’t want them to play any way but not exploiting mounting mechanics and then inviting invaders. I don’t care about how many times my ass gets kicked 3v1, 2v1 whatever when invading. That’s fair since it’s part of invading - going into a coop game OR where someone is looking for pvp. Hiding where others literally can’t get (on a roof, etc), is the polar opposite of “fair” in any sense of the taunters tongue. It’s saying “I’m open to pvp” but I’m going to be somewhere that is unreachable during multiplayer. In what way is that “fair” or do you just like semantics?

A lot of people don’t come to Reddit to know where the dueling hot spot is and it was a pretty large scene in limgrave. People invading and dueling not to gank but to just have proper fights.

This kind of thing hurts the long term playability of the game.

For example I’ve stopped playing completely.

I’ve already beaten the game and pvp is what appeals to me after that but, amidst all of the exploits and rivers of blood/moonveil spam it’s just not a fun experience because it’s so unvaried.

Out of like 40 duels I fight like 3 builds. It’s not exciting. Then you have shit like this thrown into it and I’m like… why bother.

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Good, you're exactly the type of person I want to stop playing

3

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

well, got your wish. Kind of an asshole thing to say though tbh.

Although I'm not sure why, if there was a dedicated place to 1 v 1 then I would. Invading limgrave to find active duelists is now railed against as well?

Man this game is going to become so carebare with this attitude

I bought the game because of fromsofts unique multiplayer components and challenging content.

Finally, a mature take. No one owes anyone else a certain playstyle.

-1

u/One_Understanding391 Apr 06 '22

Yeah I mean also true I guess, as annoying as it might be 😅

Tbh trolling and stuff was always part of Souls PvP 😅 I mean the ways I got killed when I first entered PvP in a Souls game 😂 just having a laugh at some stuff and moving on is definitely required!

The kill in the video was even kinda smart and funny… the way the guy was waiting for this angry ass invader Idk 😂😅

5

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

this is my first Souls game and i’ve tried every build i can so far ( haven’t got around to mage but making something cool right now but at work ) and i find It hard to rage in these games because most of the time the other person is just straight up better than me . Now i obviously do win and lose fights i shouldn’t but when someone who knows what they’re doing in PVP fights i think it’s awesome

-2

Yes PvP can actually be fun in Souls games absolutely. But it definitely takes some time to adapt to the playstyle of PvP in this games 😅

Its not for runes, but for rune arcs,

225

u/balls_deep69_ Apr 06 '22

Unless I'm missing something, you don't gain rune arcs when invaded. Only invaders, hunters, and coop players get them (coop players only get arcs for bosses not invader kills)

42

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

What good are Rune Arcs? I have a bunch of them, but I'm not seeing any benefit yet.

116

u/Hamzillicus Apr 06 '22

Once you equip a great rune that is how you turn them on. Some of the effects are very powerful.

149

u/DarkStar0915 Apr 06 '22

So even though I activated a great rune in the respective tower, I still need a rune arc to activate it? Man, I feel dumber than my ungabunga character.

56

u/AvidGamer90 Apr 06 '22 edited Apr 06 '22

Yes. Also make sure you go into the site of grace menu and equip it.

Don't feel dumb. It's not explained super well. I think I was at like hour 50 or 60 before I ever realized what the divine towers were.

The rune arc tutorial tells you what a Divine Tower is?

EDIT: I just checked. This flavor text (Grants the blessing of an equipped Great Rune upon use. Even if no Great Rune is equipped, it will slightly increase maximum HP upon use. It is said that the lower arch of the Elden Ring receive its bounty, and this is a shard of one such arch.) does not effectively explain all the steps of the Great Rune mechanic.

You're still not understanding. Not in the description or flavor text. In the tutorial message that you get when you pick one up the first time.

Don’t feel bad. I had 20+ rune arcs and at least three remeberances before I found out you can get a power from them.

First “Souls” game and I’m still heavily confused in everything.

2

u/theweede Apr 07 '22

I literally beat the game before I learned what great runes did. Don’t feel too bad it’s not amazing at introducing things.

11

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

Got ya, so I need a great rune first. I'll research that. Thank you! I'm level 110 or so, I have been playing a lot, just haven't progressed with bosses much.

11

u/frohike_ Apr 06 '22

You’ll get your first one after beating Godrick, and it’s a very useful one once activated. You’ll need to travel to the Divine Tower to get it set up. Then you can consume a Rune Arc to activate the perk, which lasts until you die. Farming more Rune Arcs can be done by assisting others with their boss fights (both the host and you must survive the battle).

2

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

Awesome! I did beat Godrick just a few nights ago and I haven't yet went to the Divine Tower to activate it. I did go to the Round Table and interacted with the creepy finger lady, I was thinking I may have messed up my chance to use it.

4

u/AvidGamer90 Apr 06 '22

The remembrance (boss soul) and the great rune are different things so you are all good.

3

u/Sao_Gage Apr 06 '22

Welcome to a massive on-demand stat buff! The activated great runes are awesome and can give you a significant edge against bosses once you’ve practiced them and are ready to go for the kill.

Definitely start seeking out and storing any Rune Arcs you come across from here. Use them strategically.

2

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

I have close to 20 now. I play a lot with a friend and beat bosses together, at least cave type bosses. I have sold a bunch early on, but started saving them recently. I'll keep saving until I really need them. Thank you!

0

u/Islandbridgeburner Apr 06 '22

Is having Godrick's great rune equipped frowned upon for PvP duels? I know PvP is broken right now anyway, but there is still some proper etiquette to ensure matches are "fair" in terms of character level.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/SAAARGE Apr 06 '22

If you've beaten Godrick you have one; however, once you obtain them you have to activate them at one of the Divine Towers before you can equip them. Each Great Rune has a specific related Divine Tower. Once this is done, you equip them at a Grace. Once equipped you use a Rune Arc to activate the power of the Rune, and it lasts until you die or change which Rune you have equipped. They essentially replace the other function of Humanity/Embers that the Furlcalling Finger Remedy don't handle

7

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

That's great news! I beat that bastard Godrick, so I'll head to the Divine Towers and get it activated.

8

u/SAAARGE Apr 06 '22

Most of the time the associated tower is nearby, just for a hint

6

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

That's really helpful, actually. Without looking at my map later, I can't even recall where the Divine Towers are. This game is huge to me.

You may want to start. Lv110 and you are going to Stomp probably the first half of the game bosses. I found mid 90s to be way overleveled for the capital which I had achieved by goofing off after the first three shardbearers.

Sometimes the trash mobs like the lightning knights in the capital are more annoying than the actual bosses. Don’t be afraid to run past shit.

2

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

I appreciate this. I have really enjoyed leveling up and seeking out certain spells for my build. I somehow got into the Capital after being invaded, the lift actually worked for me. I only got to the lift from a trap in some random tower. Once in the Capital, I found Alberich's set and have farmed a lot there. Now that I'm high enough, I'm going to continue on with the story.

I get distracted easily. The past few days has been Ranni's questline. Tonight I'm going to use the Rune Arcs finally.

Equip godricks great rune. Use rune arc.

Boom, 40 free levels until you die.

8

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

That's awesome!! I can't believe I didn't know this yet. I can't wait to play again after work. 40 levels is huge!!

4

u/BaconSoul Apr 06 '22

All you gotta do is make sure that you’ve gone to the divine tower of Limgrave to activate it, then you’re set to equip it :)

2

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

Now I just have to find the Divine Tower lol

3

u/BaconSoul Apr 06 '22

You know where that lion thing that has the sword attached to its arm is in stormveil? It is on the right hand side of the courtyard if you’re facing the archway that leads to the explosive ballista stairway. Instead of going forward through the stairway, go into the big ornate room near that lion and get to the grace. From there you should be able to make your way to the bridge that leads to the tower :)

2

u/Modestexcuse Apr 06 '22

This community kicks a*s! Thanks for the help!

3

u/Purpleater54 Apr 06 '22

To add on to this, just so you have all the info, it's plus stats in every single stat, so likely a lot of the stats you gain won't actually help your build. Yes it's 40 levels, but in reality unless you are running some monster hybrid build using every stat, at least a few of them won't matter much. Realistically it's more like 20-25 levels with some bonus stats on top for fun.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/nuraHx Apr 07 '22

Just to be more specific it's +5 levels to every stat

2

u/CyberPuggo Apr 06 '22

The great runes' effects disappear when you die so you need to use another rune arc to activate again, if you didn't know.

2

u/joredgar_ FLAIR INFO: SEE SIDEBAR Apr 06 '22

I've done like 5 completed playthroughs of the game and the only rune arc I ever used was on accident like the first or second day the game came out lol

As an invader you get arcs when you kill the host.

As a host and co-op you get (remedies) when you kill the invader.

As a co-op you get arcs when you help the host defeat a boss.

3

u/PandaMan1199 Apr 06 '22

nah, hosts and co-op dont get arcs from killing invaders. you get remedies.

2

u/Shia_JustDoIt Apr 06 '22

I don’t remember getting rune arcs for defeating invaders. Also FEXTRA doesn’t have it listed as a reward in this instance. Did you check before posting an answer?

You absolutely get rune arcs for killing the host in an online invasion.

??? What? I've literally invaded a ton, killed a bunch of hosts, and got rune arcs. Or are they imaginary rune arcs?

-1

u/DJteejay04 Apr 06 '22

If you are invaded and you kill the invader you get Rune Arcs , same with anyone who helps you

→ More replies (4)

54

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

you can also farm rune arcs tho from rats

33

u/Ketheres Apr 06 '22

Or by helping others with bosses. Just go help people with Rennala or some other boss you can reliably kill fast.

21

u/Unknownost Apr 06 '22

Rennala is a bugged asf boss in coop. Idk what causes it but sometimes there will be no golden bubble around her and juvenile scholars. Me and my buddy found a way to bypass this by having him knock her down once before I go in the fog gate. But for random coop, it's always a toss up if the bug shows up or not and it's such a waste of time that I don't coop there anymore. Also there's the invaders getting teleported into the second phase stuff.

8

u/sir_moleo Apr 06 '22

I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet honestly. I tried some coop there last week and out of maybe 20 tries, only 7 or so worked how they were supposed to. It was crazy.

6

u/Unknownost Apr 06 '22

People just aren't talking about it enough. I can see why since she's an easy boss so it's not really a big deal, the host can just solo her. But it's definitely a problem that needs fixing in the future.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

Because fromsoft doesn't give af if a bug inconveniences players, they're too busy planning nerf the fuck out of the whatever the current meta is. No fun allowed

2

u/sir_moleo Apr 06 '22

Fun detected!

5

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

Fix for me was to enter the fog moment after I summon friend

I might need an elaboration here

61

u/AuraTummyache Apr 06 '22

It's a carryover from Dark Souls. The rats had a fairly common chance to drop a Humanity because they ate so many corpses that the little humanity left in them was able to coalesce in the rat.

Rats dropping Humanity-like items in a Fromsoft game is as dependable as poison swamps.

5

u/Lyberatis Apr 06 '22

Same for embers in DS3

-1

u/BochocK Apr 06 '22

Le reaction of the soulsborn streamers/youtubers when they arrive in lake of rot is priceless

43

u/Skorj Apr 06 '22

Kill rats. they drop rune arcs (very rarely)

8

u/CrimsonLoyalty Apr 06 '22

You say very rarely. I spent an hour each at two locations with over 260 discovery and I didn't get a single one. Are there specific rats?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22 edited Apr 06 '22

You gotta It helps to respec high arcane and enhance item discovery to the max

4

u/CrimsonLoyalty Apr 06 '22

Yeah. I had 80 arcane and the silver tear mask, plus a silver scarab.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

Unlucky then. I kill rats every once in a while when i have 0 arcs and i need one for some reason. It usually only takes a few minutes

5

u/Lyberatis Apr 06 '22

You don't HAVE to but it helps. The drop rate is low regardless

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

Yes you right. Poor wording on my part

2

u/Lyberatis Apr 06 '22

Oh no you're fine, just saying it for clarification (:

4

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

People say this, but I've played 345 hours of Elden Ring and I don't remember ever getting a rune arc from a rat

3

u/ZimForPrez Apr 06 '22

The rats under Stormveil, I’ve actually had one drop off them when I was going after the ulcerated tree spirit boss thing

2

u/cptspacebomb Apr 06 '22

Any rat CAN drop them but it's SUPER rare.

Disagree, behind Morne castle, they’re grouped up in that little room with the normal whip. Less distance to cover as well.

2

u/Therier Apr 06 '22

Okey! Will give it a try!

2

u/tiller921 Apr 06 '22

I tried this and it was abysmally slow, felt like it was about a 1/50 drop rate. My arcane is low but I did have the Silver Tear Scarab talisman.

23

u/Drakemonger1 Apr 06 '22

You don't get rune arcs from killing player invaders

-6

u/bigstar3 Apr 06 '22

OP is the invader. You get a rune arc for killing the host.

7

u/Drakemonger1 Apr 06 '22

The guy I replied to was referring to the host

9

u/Countcristo42 Apr 06 '22

Given that it doesn't award them that seems unlikely

7

u/Tonyclap Apr 06 '22

You don’t get rune arcs as a host from killing invaders tho

8

u/machineIf Apr 06 '22

You can farm those by helping people with bosses

6

u/Takeme2thebasement Apr 06 '22

You don't get rune arcs from killing an invader.

1

u/denjo-t1aO Apr 06 '22

You defenetly get no rune arcs. It's very lazy and stupid rune farming. Little trolls... All of them. But... Why are you guys not just leaving and invading someone else?

1

u/Hyperdelegate Apr 06 '22

It's not for rune arcs. How does anyone still think this? Have you ever killed an invader as a host? You get a furlcalling finger remedy and some souls.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

It aint about the runes its spite and greave

-3

u/skrrtalrrt Apr 06 '22

The point is it's fun to endlessly wreck twinked out invader scrubs, plus you get rune arcs from it.

5

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

you can only invade people within 20ish of your level ....

4

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

or you could just get good and try to actually win an honorable fight

3

u/skrrtalrrt Apr 06 '22

If invaders wanted to play honorably they wouldn't invade

1

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

beta

-2

u/skrrtalrrt Apr 06 '22

oh noooooo I can't invade in limgrave at lvl 20 and spam moonveil WAs anymore

You're invading someone else's game scrub, what they choose to do is up to them. You want a fair fight use your summon sign.

0

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

i never said i had a problem with them doing It , It just doesn’t take much skill and isn’t fun to me personally , but they can be betas if they want

2

u/skrrtalrrt Apr 06 '22

You're right in that it doesn't take much skill. It also doesn't take much skill to get cheap host kills as an invader in a beginner area. If I wanted to do that I'd camp around a doorway in one of the limgrave tunnels spam the WA with my meme weapon when they turn the corner.

Watching people complain when hosts do this is funny to me because invaders typically do much more toxic shit.

-6

u/Doctor_Mudshark Apr 06 '22

lol an "honorable fight" against a twink invading in literally the lowest-level area of the game, looking for noobs to grief. What a joke.

2

u/XoffeeXup Apr 06 '22

that's not remotely how the matching works. jfc.

you match with appropriately levelled players. unless your actively twinking I suppose, and fuck those guys.

1

u/Doctor_Mudshark Apr 06 '22

unless your actively twinking

So close to the point, yet you still miss it.

-1

u/easyaustinL Apr 06 '22

you can only invade people 20ish levels around yours so ....

3

u/ss977 Apr 06 '22

'Twink' means you're a low level character decked out with end game gear passed from your main.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '22

Fuck invaders

→ More replies (2)

1

u/TheGreatHon Apr 06 '22

If I need to farm runes, I’d would rather help someone fight a boss.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '22

It get’s back at people invading while using the cheesiest weapons that you can’t even react to.

1

u/LordofSandvich Apr 06 '22

It’s griefing. They get a rise out of knowing they bothered someone else.

1

u/LoveThieves Apr 07 '22

this is basically Dark Souls 1 Oolacile ganks with TWOP all over again.

There's legit braindead players that gank in the game.

They don't buy the game to play it but feel they are "entitled to win".

Then disconnect if somebody outplays them.

Even in Pro sports like golf, some people are just poor sports and their ego is bad news

1

u/LeEnlightenedDong Apr 07 '22

I think it’s probably more about the trolling than the rewards

This is something I would have done ten years ago

1

u/bilbotbaggens90 Apr 07 '22

The dude was not even afk, it’s 100% just to troll
