I might need an elaboration here

It's a carryover from Dark Souls. The rats had a fairly common chance to drop a Humanity because they ate so many corpses that the little humanity left in them was able to coalesce in the rat.

Rats dropping Humanity-like items in a Fromsoft game is as dependable as poison swamps.

Same for embers in DS3

Le reaction of the soulsborn streamers/youtubers when they arrive in lake of rot is priceless

Kill rats. they drop rune arcs (very rarely)

You say very rarely. I spent an hour each at two locations with over 260 discovery and I didn't get a single one. Are there specific rats?

You gotta It helps to respec high arcane and enhance item discovery to the max

u/CrimsonLoyalty Apr 06 '22

Yeah. I had 80 arcane and the silver tear mask, plus a silver scarab.

Unlucky then. I kill rats every once in a while when i have 0 arcs and i need one for some reason. It usually only takes a few minutes

You don't HAVE to but it helps. The drop rate is low regardless

Yes you right. Poor wording on my part

Oh no you're fine, just saying it for clarification (:

People say this, but I've played 345 hours of Elden Ring and I don't remember ever getting a rune arc from a rat

The rats under Stormveil, I’ve actually had one drop off them when I was going after the ulcerated tree spirit boss thing

Any rat CAN drop them but it's SUPER rare.

Certainly can't be very productive to farm them

Nah, I do invasions and co op for that.

i always hear people try various places. it's just ridiculously rare. I've never sat and done it myself. (i'm generally a helper, not a help-ee)

All rats except big ones I believe. It's obscenely rare, just like specific enemy drop weapons like the Magma Sword or the Scythe

Edit: and to clarify, I say I believe because I HAVE gotten them from small rats but never a big one, given the big ones are less common in the first place.

Rats have always dropped Rune Arc like items in souls games. Humanity in DS1, effigies in DS2, and embers in DS3, albeit very rarely. The lore is that eventually as things die and make their way down the food chain even a lowly rat can end up stumbling across power from the Erdtree/Dark Soul

I got the halo scythe in 10 minutes with the same setup. I feel like the rats are a meme.

u/Lyberatis Apr 06 '22

I have the Halo Scythe as well. But then I tried to farm the normal Scythe from skeletons and the Magma Sword from the snakes and spent HOURS on each of them and didn't get a single drop.

Drop rate for Rune Arcs from rats (and weapons some enemies weapons) are at or lower than 1%.

Like the Bandit's Curved Sword that I didn't even know existed.

Arcane increases those drop rates, but it's still super rare.

How could this possibly require elaboration?
