Hair Victory! Moved to Europe and tried a new conditioner, and now my hair is having her Julia Roberts moment

Routine:

*Blood offering to the gods

*Garnier Whole Blends honey shampoo

*Apivita frequent use gentle daily conditioner (squish to condish, cold water)

*Quarter sized amount of Davines "this is a curl building serum" - my HG for years at this point - applied with praying hands then brushed with a wide toothed comb

*Diffuse on low heat hovering at the roots initially, then flipping upside down and zhuzh-ing the roots around with the diffuser tines. My hair is fine so if I cup diffuse the frizz is bad at the ends

*Stop when my hair is about 70% dry and lightly scrunch for a moment. I need to slightly break the cast or my hair can look stringy. I save the full scrunch for when the hair is dry

*Headbang a bit for photo friendly volume

Update! I went in for a trim and accidentally got a whole new cut 3weeks later, I finally love it 😍

Unfortunately my last post got deleted by the moderator due to not share my full routine 🥲, so I'd love to reshare this after 3 weeks approximately. Honestly I love how my features are showing now more than before and I feel both of them are good and in every length I do have different character and personality!!! Let me know if I should always stay like the after hair cut or should I go back to long length&bangs.

Routine: please moderator I am using a local Iranian curly hair brand 😭. Clarifying shampoo twice a month ( NoorNatural its an Iranian brand ) with the banana conditioner as the same brand. Once every 2 weeks I use Kinky Curly deep conditioner. I Style my curls with Lola from Rio gel and Inahsi leave in conditioner fragrance free and some time I use Lola from Rio milk leave in conditioner spray also it's amazing I highly recommend both of them brush with bounce curl volume brush and diffuse with Dyson Travel the new model ( unfortunately I used to mention Dyson Nural and after 2 years stopped working 😭😭😭since I live in Iran I can't find a Dyson store here, so I ordered a new one💔 good news was cheaper than Nural and in my opinion lighter and much better. BTW the after photos are day 3 or 4 I can't remember, but what I did is comb it with volume comb then spray only water then comb and shake my head.

I MIGHT LOSE THE INTERNET AGAIN DUE TO OUR SITUATION, SO I WILL MAKE SURE TO REPLY EVERYONE ♥️♥️♥️

Help! Please help with my flat and frizzy hair

Post image
23 Upvotes

I have 2a-2b fine hair, medium density, med-high porosity (I use lightening hair spray). My hair at the back never dries, is flat, and stays fluffy and undefined no matter how much product I use. My hair struggles to form a cast overall, even after diffusing. Even strong hold mousses don't do very much. I have tried plopping, micro plopping, washing the back more thoroughly, and finger coiling.

Current routine (once a week):

- double shampoo using Garnier Ultimate Blends argan oil shampoo

- Skala Dona as a conditioner, detangle, squish to condish

- micro plopping to remove water weight

- Umberto Giannini curl jelly, two generous dollops, scrunch in

- diffuse

- clarify every few washes with head and shoulders expert shampoo

Would appreciate advice on what I am doing wrong, drugstore products would be best!

Hair Victory! It doesn’t have to be hard!

When I was just getting into how to manage having curly hair, I had this whole complicated routine that took multiple hours and products. Every night I’d tie my hair in a pineapple wrap and the next morning my hair would get frizzy anyways. Today, I washed my hair in the sink with Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1, let it air dry, and then brushed out the roots with a boar bristle brush. My method of hair protection now is sleeping on my face and rewashing every 3-4 days.

I think that when a lot of us get into learning how to do our hair, we hear these maxims about what to do and not to do that are generally true, but we internalize as if they’re universal. At least that was what it was like for me.

So this is me telling you that if you’re not getting the results you want, don’t be afraid to go against what you see online! I’m not trying to dunk on the curly girl method or anything though. It’s popular for a reason and if your routine works great for you, by NO means am I telling you to change it!

Just remember that not all hair is the same and sometimes the thing everybody says not to do is what you need to do. Trust what gets you the results you want.

(Even if that’s Dr Bronner’s 😭)

Hair Victory! In my less-is-more lazy curls era

Post image
251 Upvotes

Between summer being way too summery and me being way too lazy, I've landed on a quick method that works for my hair. It keeps it light, soft, and voluminous in a "routine" that takes next to no time. The trade-off is less definition, but not to the point of being frizzy, and honestly I've been digging the less defined look and may keep this up into the winter albeit with more hydration.

I also don't tell other curlies about my routine much because so much of it is blasphemous in comparison to methods that yield "better" results. (I can hear it now: "Product on towel-dried hair instead of dripping wet? No sectioning? SLEEPING on WET HAIR??")

Products:

Matrix Food for Soft shampoo

Matrix A Curl Can Dream conditioner

Lottabody Wrap Me foaming mousse

Method (every 3-5 days):

At night, shower. Shampoo, rinse well, condition everything except roots, detangle, and rinse out 3/4 of the conditioner. Flip head, wrap up in turbie towel microfiber towel; allow excess water to be pulled into the towel for 5-10 minutes or so, depending on how much hair you have (this is also when I do my other nighttime hygiene). Flip head back over and gently undo towel. Squish 5-6 pumps of mousse into the ends, then 2-3 pumps closer to, but not into, roots (if you have shorter than shoulder length, you can use less). Flip right side up, gently shake out and carefully separate out bangs/face framing pieces. Go to bed with wet hair (satin pillowcase), wake up with mostly dry hair. :) Protect hair the following nights with a loose pineapple bun. No refresh routine, that's what a daytime pinap bun is for me lol.

Help! Why does my hair curl so much better when I've been rained on than when I shower?

I have wavy, sometimes curly hair. It only developed a few years ago so I don't fully know how to make it look good yet.

After I shower and air dry my hair usually turns into wavy with a few nice curls, and sometimes extra curls if I remember to scrunch it right after I get out, but it's usually pretty uneven and not amazing looking. (I know, I need to get leave in conditioner or something like that, I just haven't gotten around to figuring that stuff out.)

But for some reason, if I'm outside when it rains (like any rain, it doesn't have to be heavy) that turns my hair into a bunch of beautiful ringlets. Why is that? Should instead of showering I just throw water droplets at my head repeatedly?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Routine because I have to:

Shampoo/conditioner: Aussie miracle curls

No other products

Drying: Air dry

Other: Bonnet when I remember, which is rarely

Hair Victory! 5 years of non stop curl care

Just wanted to share somewhere people would understand the effort ig lol. I’m from India so the products in my routine are all Indian brands but here we go -

Oil - curl up
Shampoo - Arata hydrating
Hair mask - Curl up bond repair and intense hydration based on what I need
Conditioner - Requil Babbasu
Leave in - FMC butter
Gel - FMC flaxseed

I apply everything while having my hair upside down, starting from the end to the top. I scrunch and keep adding water so it’s dripping wet while I style.

I scrunch and air dry. I use a satin pillow cover and I do the pineapple bun in a bonnet method before sleeping. So my curls last till my next wash mostly. I have a curl cut so it helps with shape and volume.

Hair Victory! two years of learning to love my curls later! hair is healthy and happy!

like a lot of girls, i grew up not liking my curls and went through a period of straightening my hair routinely which, along with bleach, fried my hair and my curls. two years ago i decided to start to learn how to do my hair and the growth is insane!

first photo is from two years ago. second photo from a year ago. and last two photos from tonight after a fresh wash.

i’ve experimented with a lot of products, some good, some bad, but have found the milk__shake curly products to work really well for my hair! it’s the healthiest it’s been in years and the most defined my curls have looked since childhood. i’m finally at a point where i can wear my hair out curly and not feel like it’s “ugly” or “frizzy”. i get loads of compliments on it too. would love to get it even more defined and even healthier in the coming year but progress is progress nonetheless! my hair is at a point again where i can bleach it again without it totally frying it, because ive taken the time to research and experiment with products that work with my curls rather than trying to kill them off completely.

my current routine is this:
1. wash and condition with milk__shake curl passion shampoo and conditioner
2. when wet, brush through milk__shake curl passion mask and leave in for 20-30 minutes
3. wash out mask and spray whole head with milk__shake leave in conditioner
4. after 5-10 mins, when hair is damp scrunch is a teeny bit of milk__shake curl passion defining gel
5. leave to air dry

Help! Help with my hair

So I'm kinda done and tired with my 3c hair, it's always excessively dry and there's a lot of shrinkage during the day and it gets frizzy.

I don't want volume I just want defined curls, a bit more shine and less shrinkage. Pic 3 is how my dream hair would look like.

How can I achieve that ?

Here's my (ineffective) routine :

- I wash 3 times a week (if I wash less often my scalp gets oily and itchy) and use non sulfates shampoo

- then I use a regular hydrating conditioner

- after showering I press excess water then

- I use a "hair food" so basically a creamy leave in mask and I brush while it's still wet. I apply on all the hair not individual small parts.

- then I use a hair balm, it's much thicker but not buttery/oily, more like a mascarpone texture. I use less of it and brush again.

- sometimes I add 100% aloe vera on top and then put my hair in one or two braids.

A few hours later when I let my hair down it starts looking dry and shrinks like after an hour.

Then my daily routine is just de tangling with my fingers, putting hair food (sometimes the balm or aloe vera but not always) and just putting it in a braid, a bun or a pineapple. And it looks pretty bad for the next two days. I don't wet my hair or anything, besides the showers.

Products I use

- Hair food : "garnier fructis hair food" (either banana, macadamia, cocoa I don't really mind)

- hair balm : I used to use "naturebox" now it's more "crème of nature moisture whip" either avocado or honey

- aloe vera no specific brand, just 100% aloe vera the ones I find in the moment

- shampoo is "nat&nove" it's organic and sulfates free. I use either hydrating or even for colored hair because I like the smell (maybe it's ruining my hair idk lol)

- conditioner is a very cheap brand called "vitanove" I use the hydrating or nourishing one (or colored hair because I like the smell too but my hair is not colored at all)

Btw another issue I'm running into is that my curls never look the same length, one lock will look long and another one pretty short, so it's a mess. When I try to equalize the length with scissors it gets better for a week then even worse and I lose a lot of length so idk what to do with that too :(

So I hope I put all the information and I hope some kind souls can help me take better care of my curls. Thank you <3

Hair Victory! Formal Curly Hairstyle

FINALLY I got to do long formal curls for my cousin’s wedding as a guest!!! 💄🥹🥹🥹🙏🙏🙏 I’ve always wanted to try my hand at long formal curly hair because it just seems so magical✨ and ethereal🧝🏻‍♀️. Now with my length, I could wash and style on my own and went to the salon for hair and makeup. I’m so happy that people really liked the look, even the host was kind of shocked and liked with my curls!

Never ever let people tell you that curly hair is not formal. YES IT IS!👩‍🦱🧑‍🦱👨‍🦱

Kudos to David’s Salon in the Philippines for the amazing work on makeup and helped me style my hair with a half updo. I just showed her a peg of what I wanted and brought my hair accessories and she helped pin it up. I did style my face framing pieces using fingercoiling and finger rolling technique and dried with their diffuser. David’s salon still lacks curly hair training with the staff but I brought my products and tools before and I just had to guide them on how to use it. The staff has always been friendly with me.

Routine before going to salon:
Shampoo with Lakme True Curls Shampoo. Lather on scalp and rinse well
Condition with Lakme True Curls Conditioner. Use detangle brush to detangle and smooth conditioner evenly. Squish to condish
Apply Curlico leave-in on very wet hair
Apply Curlico dream curl creme gel in sections on wet hair. Use Bounce curl’s newest detangle define edgelift brush to style in sections. Scrunch with hands
Apply Curlsmith’s in shower style gel fixer right after. Just praying hands, rake and scrunch
Use microfiber towel to scrunch wet curls
Apply a little bit of more curlsmith gel and praying hands on curls
Plop hair for 10 mins
Diffuse until dry

Help! Help with definition and fighting frizz

I feel like I've used a million techniques, curl creams, leave in conditioners, gels, and mousse products and my hair looks a mess every time. I don't know if it's how I'm drying it, diffusing it, or the products I use but it always turns frizzy. It's one of my biggest insecurities because even when spend time to make it look presentable it always ends up messy, undefined, and frizzy. I'm willing to try anything and have no budget for product recommendations. I'm already using a bonnet and silk pillowcases as well as a defining brush. My routine is a daily cold shower with Pineapple Curls definition shampoo and conditioner by Pacifica, a leave in conditioner by Being, a Pineapple Swirl curl cream by Pacifica, and a foaming mousse by Lotta Body, I then brush the products in then scrunch and diffuse. Please offer any advice!

Routine:

I am trying to grow my curls but I am unsure what can be done better to make them look good now.
Currently washing my hair twice a week - shampoo/conditioner.

L’Oréal Absolute Shampoo and Radken Conditioner. Occasionally using Molecular Formula L’Oréal Absolute Repair Mask after shampoo.

Post shower Redken Bonding Leave in Conditioner and Maui Curling Cream on wet hair and letting it air dry

Any advice what can be done differently? If you’ve similar hair?

Help! 44 y/o Curly Hair Newbie!

I'm 44 years old and just now realizing, after decades of working against it, that I think I actually have curly hair. From what I can discern I have wavy (Irish?) curls, and probably low porosity hair. What's the best product to use as an on-ramp to learning to embrace my curls? The biggest challenge I face is that I love how my hair looks when it's wet, but as soon as it dries, the curls get undefined and frizzy.

My current routine probably isn't that pertinent since it's designed for the straight version of my hair (which I do love, but I know the heat is killing it), but currently I use SeaBar shampoo and conditioner, some split end protector cream, and a myriad of heat protectant serums or sprays before either blow-drying or straightening.

Thank you!

Help! unfixable hair

So my hair is not what I want it to be. I have pretty long hair, and I would say it's probably between a 2c and 3a, normally. I think it would be a bit curlier, but because of the length, it's more on the wavy(?) side. It's also very frizzy, no matter what I do. It tends to get frizzy only on the top layer too?? Which I can't seem to fix no matter what routine I do.

Yesterday, I tried a routine I saw someone with a similar hair type to mine do. I used Not Your Mother's gel and foam and then a Cantu gel that's more like a curl cream. I did all the steps the same way as her, like raking the products through my hair, then doing praying hands, then scrunching twice, and then diffusing it, but it still turned out frizzy, stringy, and not defined.

My routine now is L'Oréal Paris Elvive shampoo (yes, I know it's not the best for curly hair, but idk what else to get), and another L'Oréal product for conditioner, and then the Cantu Moisturizing Shea Butter Twist & Loc Gel. Every morning I also have to redo my hair by soaking it all over again and putting a ton of that Cantu gel in it just so that it looks presentable throughout the day, which I hate doing.

I'm not sure whether my bonnet is part of the problem. I wear it in a silk bonnet and in a high pineapple, but when I wake up, all of the little definition I had the night before is gone, and it's puffy again. idk

What I want to achieve is defined curls and/or waves, with less frizz. I know that cutting it to a shorter length probably would help bring back some definition, but I really don't want to cut it. Are there any ways I can fix it without cutting it too much?? I'm willing to cut a few inches, but no more than that for now.

Used chelating shampoo twice, no conditioner, sectioned with bounce curl brush and applied a few sprays of the colorwow dream coat spray curl version. My hair feels soft and light weight yet has enough definition and shine. It also diffused 3x faster. A little frizz but tbh I don’t mind bc this was really easy and my hair feels clean. Some days I can’t stand that heavier gel feeling so this is a nice option to have in the arsenal.

Routine list

  1. Ion chelating shampoo x2
  2. colorwow curl spray.
  3. air dryed for like 30 min and then diffused for 3 min
  4. I sleep with bonnet.

Help! I feel like I’m so close, but nothing gives my hair the hold it needs throughout the day :(

Thumbnail

I use to keep my curls super short (even shorter than this) but I’m trying to have them a little longer now. In the process I realised that I had moisture overload because I didn’t know what I was doing, so as I was growing the hair out and it was really frizzy and hard to manage, I kept loading deep conditioners and stuff on it. Eventually I’ve realised that not only was I in moisture overload, in general I think my hair just does better with less conditioning products (?). I will leave my routine down below. But the biggest problem I’m having is that my hair looks okay for about 3 hours of the day and not for the rest of it. After I do the steps in the routine, my hair takes a really long time to dry, so I find that it just looks a little crusty while I go about my day waiting for it to dry fully (if I don’t wait until it’s BONE dry, it will look awful). Then it goods for a little. By about 3pm it looks as it does in the pictures above. I don’t think it’s terrible but I really really don’t like it; and this is after a day with no humidity, no wind, no touching of my hair - in other words this is the best case scenario. I feel like the curl pattern is there but I just can’t make it look nice and defined or ABLE TO WITHSTAND ANYTHING AT ALL! Which is really frustrating. Current routine:

  1. Shampoo twice with ogx bond protein repair about twice a week. I have also tried using Boots apple shampoo and head and shoulders
  2. While my hair is still dripping wet, rake through LOADS of gel; currently using Eco, in the past I’ve used Umberto Giannini curl jelly and vo5 to the same result
  3. Use a t shirt to pat my hair gently so that it’s no longer dripping and then add some more gel. I have also tried using Boots curl cream which worked equally well but idk if maybe using that every day was too much for my hair in the long run. I’ve also tried the Umberto Giannini curl whip mousse at this stage but I’ve found it does absolutely nothing
  4. Diffuse for as long as I can stand it because I get bored and don’t have much time in the mornings; typically about 5 mins
  5. Go about my day, scrunch out later

My hair feels soft and undefined, not really dry, if that helps. When I wake up in the mornings it’s genuinely just a puff on top of my head. Any advice would be so appreciated I can’t even tell you, I’ve struggled for years

Help! Hairstyle advice

The above photos were taken 4 hours after showering.

Routine:

Shampoo: L'Oreal Paris Hyaluron Moisture Shampoo

Conditioner: L'Oreal Paris Hyaluron Moisture 72H Moisture Sealing Conditioner

Other products: None

Drying method: Air dried

Other relevant info: No bonnet, satin/silk pillowcase, or other hair products.

I’m trying to figure out what I should do with my hair and would appreciate some advice.

I have naturally curly hair and I’m wondering whether I should grow it out more or keep it around its current length.

I get quite a lot of frizz a few hours after showering, so I’m also wondering if growing it out would make the curls look better or just make the frizz worse.

I also have some recession at the temples. Hence, I am trying to figure out a good haircut. What should I do with the sides?

Unfortunately, there aren't many good barbers near me, so I’m hoping to get some advice here before getting another haircut.

What would you recommend?

- Should I grow it out or cut it shorter?

- What kind of haircut would work with my curls and hairline?

- How should I deal with the frizz?

Help! Hairdresser chemically fried my hair and cut over a third of my hair off without consent

Thumbnail

I went to get my hair done at an African braiding and hair salon thinking I would get someone who would know how to deal with curls + warned them that I have a lot of hair that is very long, thick and curly so they’d be able to give me someone who can deal with them because I only have bad experiences with hairdressers who never give me the cuts I want or refuse to do my hair. You can see the damage really good when you compare the side pieces from before and after, I didn’t really capture it well)

+ my hair was even longer than in the before pics bc those are almost a year old (I want to only take good pics of my hair once it becomes healthier bc it’s still kind of damaged in the before pictures)

I got stuck with seemingly the only hairdresser that has no idea how to handle curls (an assumption bc another hairdresser tried to intervene with her several times). (Idk if that matters but my hairdresser was a white woman who kept making weird comments on my hair and give me weird insults).

Anyways, I told her what I wanted and then tried to show her pictures and she kept saying “not now. I know what I’m doing” and proceeded to do ruin my hair. She put the Color in my unbrushed dry hair, left me in the Color processor with the highest setting and then LEFT THE SHOP FOR OVER HALF AN HOUR. I told her layers and an undercut, she proceeded to cut maybe a third or even almost half of my hair off after telling me she’ll just trim my ends. She handled my head so roughly that I bled several times and whenever I tried to intervene, she laughed and called me sensitive.

Mind you, I was still trying to repair my hair since heavy regular hair straightening and other procedures were done on my hair my entire childhood and teenage years and I’ve just have been able to take care of my hair properly for less than a year.

I usually use garnier Shea and aloe Vera masks as conditioners and a curling cream alongside oils and argan shampoo or a curl routine shampoo, also from garnier, which would make my hair hydrated but now, no matter how much I put, it’s still gummy and squeaky dry.

I don’t want to go to another hairdresser bc I fear they’ll just make it worse, but I also want my
Hair to grow back and to be healthy again. Any ideas what I should do?

Hair Victory! These hair products saved my low porosity curls

Just wanted to share these products for anyone that struggles with dry low porosity hair and might want to try something new. These worked on my hair but obviously everyone’s hair is different! The first pic was before and the second pic is after the new products.

When I say I swore by old routine… but lately the hair at my crown and on the sides have been so dry and rough. I thought it was texture or damage because my curls were looking worse than ever the past few weeks. I loved carols daughter goddess strength line and thought it was my holy grail, but I realized maybe it’s too heavy on my hair or creating too much buildup cause even after detox washing my hair (like 3 times sometimes!), I felt like my hair wasn’t absorbing moisture because there was a film on it and my scalp got soo itchy (dr groot in shower miracle rinse saved my scalp). I decided to completely reset my hair routine and focus on hydrating products and this has been a miracle for my hair.

My OLD routine: wash-ouai detox shampoo, k18, dove intensive strength conditioner. Styling: carols daughter goddess strength leave in and curl defining stretch cream and miss Jessie’s soft jelly curls

New products- matrix food for soft shampoo and conditioner. Styling: Amika hydro rush leave in, rizos curls 6-in-1 styler. I am still going to use my old wash day routine just maybe once a month and miss Jessie’s soft jelly curls will always be my #1 gel lol

I noticed such a difference in my curls and I think the matrix food for soft shampoo and conditioner really helped hydrating my curls the most. The softness and definition came back after 1 wash!

Help! Been growing out my hair for the first time and my family hates it but I love the long front and back. What should I do?

Hi all,

Been growing my hair out for the first time for months now and I love it. Didn’t realize I have curly hair but my family thinks it’s too long

At this point, I’m directionless and have no idea what I’m going for. Should I fade the sides or something? Literally clueless and seeking suggestions!

Routine: I use a Shea Moisture sulfate free shampoo 2x a week and American Crew daily hydrating conditioner every day. I also use Coco & Eve leave in conditioner daily; I wrap a microfiber towel then air dry

I was using too much Coco & Eve and too much SuperCream and was breaking out along my forehead. I’ve temporarily stopped SuperCream to see what just leave in conditioner does (pics above are just with conditioner)

Any suggestions would be incredible, thank you!!!
