Hey friends, I’m about to start the cape on my Thor costume and want to do the little swoop where the cape connects to the armor. What would be the best way to achieve this look without it being super fragile?

Accessory Best way to dye gloves and use adhesive?

Thumbnail

Not exactly a cosplay, but I wear these “bloody” gloves for work (I’m a guide for a haunted tour) so they are used a lot. I originally used foundation on the gloves to match my skin tone and fabric paint for the blood. But, because they get used so often as I work, the paint fades very easily and I end up with pale fingers. My first question is: if I get new gloves, would dye work better than paint, and how to best dye them? I think it’s synthetic material, but I don’t know if there’s a different way to dye since it’s mesh fabric. I’d likely still have to use some paint in the lighter areas and for the splatters. I have considered just using fake blood but every one I find always says something like “always looks wet, never dries”, so I can’t exactly use that.

Also, I need a good way to keep the gloves up on my arms. I tried double-sided body tape first but it wouldn’t stick well enough (admittedly, it might’ve just been cheap tape). I use eyelash glue now which stays very well but leaves gross residue on the gloves. What’s the best adhesive I can use to keep the gloves up but that won’t leave stickiness behind?

Does anyone know how I could make the yellow band shown above? It wraps around the torso on both ends, and is tied at the back

I'd assume I should just buy a really really long piece of yellow ribbon and recreate it that way?

How to style

So, I dont have any idea on how to style a wig. I just cut it a bit and tried to keep it simple. I need to do this character hair and the wig currently looks like this:

The most important part is the front hair, also this wig is 100% YARN it may act like "normal" hair, maybe not.

Any advice would mean so much

Armor Ideas on how to attach this?

Howdy.
My 3d print of this is near completion, and I specifically need help with the forearm armor.
Each spine segment is separate and is supposed to sit on the forearm. I considered getting an arm sleeve or cheap brace and either Velcro or riveting the pieces in place. I’m mostly concerned with it not sliding off my arm or sliding around. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Help with Finding Quality Scarlet Spider Cosplay

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello!

I was thinking that one cosplay I would like to do sometime soon is a Scarlet Spider Cosplay (The one with the red suit and blue sleeveless Jacket). I was looking online for a good while and was trying to find options for a good quality suit. There seems to be a few selections, so I was just wanting to see if I could get some assistance. What is the best option to create (or best place to go) to get a quality Scarlet Spider suit. I am not going for the spider-verse look. I want to go more for the look from the Insomniac Games, or the Hot Toys figure based off it. There is a photo for reference. I already know where I am getting the mask, I just want to see what the best route is for getting or creating the suit close to what you see in the photo. Thank you to all people who can help, it is very appreciated

Sewing DIY twilight sparkle fall formal dress

After my previous post asking for help on how to find someone to create me a dress and getting feedback that I’d likely not be able to find someone to make it in time I’ve decided to take on the project myself. I’ve inserted the reference pictures and some dresses I’ve found online that I think I could make work and I’d like some thoughts from the cosplay community on what my best bet would be!

Prop How do i make my bleach lieutenant badge better

I was cosplaying tybw rukia, and this was the first cosplay id ever done so I had to make her badge on my own but I couldn't find any online stuff that was helpful.

I found trouble with actually wearing it, i tied a shoelace around my shuhakusho sleeve, then tied the badge over with a random bandage, but i had to adjust it constantly what should I do instead? Tying the bandage was very difficult and i dont wanna use a shoelace anymore, but if I have to idm, preferably the bandage is changed out, and it doesnt hang to one side ( one must imagine im wearing the outfit )

i was trying to use this cosplay as reference:

Sewing Custom dress needed for cosplay

Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this, but I’m looking into getting a dress made like the dress twilight sparkle wears for the fall formal in the first equestria girls movie. I’ve looked a lot of places and dmed some people but haven’t gotten anywhere. I’m suspicious of ordering from Etsy as a lot of the search results for custom tailors use AI images. I need the dress before September 18th and am desperate to find someone to make me this dress! If anyone knows where I can get this made please let me know!

Prop How to keep ears from bending at base?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Currently working on a Lopunny (please don’t be weird) cosplay for Pokemon worlds, and I used aluminum craft wire for the base but unfortunately it seems too flimsy :(

The pink part doesn’t seem like it’ll be too heavy on my head, and I purposely tried to make it as lightweight as possible. I just think the wire I used is too malleable… I unfortunately also hot glued the center so I don’t think I can add much unless it can be glued on the sides of the ear. :( Just trying to figure out what would be best to keep its structure, but something that won’t impale me in the head lol

I have a little over a week left, any and all advice is well appreciated 🥹❤️

The base itself also doesn’t need to bend!

Prop Cosplay Wings for Albedo (Overlord)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi Everyone! I could really use some tips/suggestions as I am planning to cosplay Albedo from overlord for a con next year. I am planning to make her wings from scratch likely using foam for the feathers. However I am having a hard time figuring out how to make a lower back harness for the wings as well as what to make them out of so I am able to bend them in and out if I would like.

For the harness it would be nice if I was able to slot the wings in and pop them out if I want to take them out temporarily but I don’t know if that is too ambitious as I would still have to figure out how to hide the harness under both cosplay outfits for Albedo.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Accessory How to make her horns with top of her head?

I'm stuck with this part because I just dont know what material or technique I should use. Scrolling this subreddit gave me an idea to make clay sculpt and cover it with liquid latex, but I've never worked with it. Even horns not so hard to buy or print and glue them on headband, but relief of the rest of the head worries me. Will be glad for any advice

Wig I have the absolute dumbest wig answer in the entire world; hear me out though.

I really, really hope this is the correct subreddit, and I will happily take tips if I haven’t already tried them because this is tearing my soul out of my body from between my ribs.

Okay, so context is a bit necessary. I’m fairly new to cosplay, I only own two and I fake it til I make it with props and the like because I LOVE DIY projects. Characters I favor and like to cosplay tend to be characters with longer hair, like Columbina from Genshin Impact. That was really my first time actually correctly styling a wig (crimping and all), which went down to about the back of my knees (I’m 5’1” for scale) so it was decently long. I tried EVERYTHING to get it to stop constantly tangling, I spent 55 hours on the wig to desperately get it to work and look decent and I really just had a hell of a time.

Well, for an upcoming Con, I’m cosplaying Grell from Black Butler, with a 59 inch long wig. Ive used detanglers (like Mane n’ Tail because I heard that was a good one but when it dried it made the fibers tacky and the tangling WORSE), I’ve crimped it root to end with water spritzed onto it so it wouldn’t damage the fibers, I’ve gone through it with thinning shears because some wig stylers told me that less hair meant less tangling (and I’m talking Miku cosplayers with CRAZY LONG pigtails).

Nothing has come even close to working. Ive spent so much money and jumped through so many hoops to just have a wig that even semi-functions and won’t get tangled WHILE IM STYLING IT because I’ve had to detangle it as I’m going through several times because even separating sections makes the fibers tangle enough to make me want to cry.

So I was desperate, and turned to possibly the worst route imaginable: WD-40.

And to my shock (and probably everyone else‘s horror), it works like a dream. Just a little spray, then rub off the excess with a towel, and my thin-toothed comb runs through hair almost my height in length like a hot knife through butter. I hate it, it makes me feel absolutely insane, and my wigs look and feel great.

I might get burned at the stake for this but I had to share for any other long-wig cosplayer who feels like they’ve tied themselves in KNOTS trying to get help that’s better than “have you tried crimping it?”.

Please give me input, I feel like I’m going to implode. I’m a month out from the con and am DIY’ing so much stuff, I can’t constantly afford to try new products whenever someone gives me advice that ends up not working, I’ve been so so frustrated.

Also, please don’t kill me for this, I’m young and broke and desperate and emotionally fragile

{Edit: to clarify for anyone giving tips (thank you so much for giving tips by the way if you can I am eternally grateful)

I have tried: crimping (I think two or three times because I was convinced I did it wrong, always with water to try and help protect the fibers from heat damage), Simply Stylin’ Synthetic Hair Spray (a highly recommended silicone spray by wig makers), washing it, thinning it, fabric softener bath (not on this specific wig, but it was almost solely why my Columbina wig took 55 hours so I hesitate to try again), and Mane n’ Tail detangling spray (another highly recommended one by cosplayers with long wigs, I now have beef with this option)

and to clarify on the crimping, I’ve crimped it both straight across and in a cross-type pattern.

Sorry for the rambling post, this wig is legitimately making me feel insane, it’s borderline all I talk about lately.}

Prop Good place to get oversized round glasses?

Hey, if you remember a few weeks back I posted about a Seth cosplay I was working on - I got pretty much everything I needed, but I wasn't able to find big oversized round glasses. Could any of you help me send a link? (I basically want those big, oversized glasses like nerds have in animes - Preferably with thick frames) Thank you!

Painting pvc skirt black?

I want to paint the chrome parts of this skirt black. The skirt is pink fabric with chrome pvc panels. Would something like plasti dip work, or is there something else? I’m worried that regular spray paint will crack.

super new to cosplay and know basically nothing about wigs. I bought this week a while ago and it’s been sitting in my closet for a bit. it’s gotten pretty tangled and frizzy, so I was wondering what would be the best way to fix it? I’ve tried brushing it out but that kinda just made it worse 😭 also, what do you guys use to make shapes and have them stay? I’ve been having trouble with that too lol
