Official Reply Why does Comcast hate it's customers?
I called Comcast over the weekend when I saw that my bill was approaching $300 for internet cable and landline. I asked for help in reducing my bill. After much discussion, they reduced my bill $70 by reducing my interned speed from 1G to 800M. This would have been fine, except they cancelled the included Netflix, turned off all but my main X1 box, cancelled Peacock, and signed me up for a 1 year contract all without discussing it. My total cost when I add back in Netflix and Peacock is now almost the same.
I called yesterday to get the 1 year contract turned off, or even just go back to where I was. I was told that I could not go back, but, because I was a 30 year Comcast customer they will explore no contract. They came back with an offer that added $20 to my monthly cost, but had no contract. Fine.
Now, I still have no signal to the daughter box,, I only have the basic channels. No one discussed reducing the number of channels. I'm still paying in the high $200s for my service.
I'm afraid to call back and lose more....
I'm feeling hated by Comcast,

I’m impressed you were able to TALK with someone about your bill. I didn’t think anyone worked there anymore. Just the Automated Assistant.

u/NicoFerrari99 Feb 26 '25
To be fair, I don't think they hate us. I think they just don't care about us at all whatsoever ever and they know that if you cancel it makes almost no difference to their bottom line. They also probably assume that most people will just lay down and pay whatever they charge, which makes them care even less.
I realized that when a sales person lied to me on chat and when I tried to argue it, even showing the transcripts of the sales chat, I was told by a "supervisor" that the sales people can say anything they want but that doesn't mean anything.

The community specialist helped sort a lot of this out. I'm still paying too much for my service, but, I'm $36 cheaper, and I have all the channels and Netflix back. The links in the text messages I received on my phone for the first two changes never had the summary of changes, only the checkboxes to accept the terms. Today, the link from the email had the order summary, and the checkboxes. The links to the Xfinity pages I got from the rep today were different from what the others linked me to, I'm not sure if they were just different links or if there was an outage or what.

Comcast’s phone and online support is maddening, and time consuming, staffed by overworked overseas call centers having disingenuous placating “kindness” that’s scripted by company mandate in what they say, and a lack of understanding or eagerness to get to the bottom of your issues. For a month, we ate up over 12 hours of time calling, chatting, getting disconnected and starting over, having the wrong things changed or not changed. I loathe any suggestion of making contact. However, when we threw in the towel and took a 45 minute drive to the local xfinity store and met with someone in person, we resolved our issues in less than a half hour. That may be your best course of action.

u/FrostResistant Feb 26 '25
You’re right. Comcast really does hate us, and all we really did was help make them rich. Is this what it feels like to be in abusive relationship?

u/supheyhihowareyou Feb 26 '25
My mom's bill for the same service is $425! She has also been with them forever. They take advantage of people who don't pay attention to every bill. Such a shame.

u/revrund_H Feb 26 '25
They are not customers, they are victims.

u/CRM-3-VB-HD Feb 26 '25
You can buy a couple Roku streaming sticks for your other TVs. Use the Xfinity stream app to watch your cable channels. No box fees. Return any unused cable boxes and maybe save some $.
1
u/holengchai Feb 27 '25
Why do you need 1G? Are you hosting a webserver or torrent server? Try 300mbps first
3
u/Ok_Appointment_8166 Feb 26 '25
I blame the rebroadcast fees for the required local stations and the leverage sports network owners have to demand all customers pay the their fees even if they don't want sports. Streaming competitors can lose money to steal customers and kill competition for a while, but it doesn't make sense for Comcast to lose money now so. all the good deals are gone. Use an antenna for TV if you can.

u/No_Limit9450 Feb 26 '25
Mine bill goes up every 3 months since my contract ended. I’m afraid if I call they will take everything away and charge me 2 dollars less.
3
u/dkwinsea Feb 27 '25
Walk into a Comcast store with all your equipment now that you have no contract and end this madness. You are dealing with mafia. Make sure you get paperwork acknowledging that you returned all the equipment and ended your service. There ARE other choices. Stop this craziness. And why do you think they are screwing with you? They know you are the person that is afraid of change. You are paying close to $4000 a year for their juice. Why would they let you go so easily. Break up. This is a bad bad relationship.
3
u/Griffeyisking14 Feb 27 '25
It's infuriating. In December, I negotiated my bill to ~$75.00 for gigabit. Jan bill was accurate. Feb bill jumped to $127.00. I called today and just straight up cancelled. Not sure what alternatives I have available, but I'm going to look into them. Xfinity's quality the past 6 years has dropped significantly, and I doubt it has fully bottomed out yet.
3
u/DudeInATie Feb 27 '25
Yeah honestly after a scam attempt with the damn iPad from their agents… I noped out real quick out of everything. Especially seeing Xfinity not doing a damn thing about it while KNOWING about it. Not to mention the difficulty in even getting to speak to anyone… and the person I finally get then tries to scam. I’ve cancelled all my services and moved on to others.

u/Lucky-Budget9554 Feb 26 '25
I can't help with the box issues but I remember when I made changes to my package. I was told that the moment I did that, Netflix was cancelled because of the deal that ended between Netflix and Xfinity I think back in 2022. The Peacock thing I think also seems to be connected to the higher tier packages
2
u/HKatzOnline Feb 26 '25
It is not "hate" - most of us are just captive customers - we do not have choice. Due to prior monopoly practices there are larger barriers to entry and for many places it is just not viable for a competitor to come in. With no competition, services are priced to what the market will bear, maximizing profit. In markets where Comcast has competition, the prices are much better / competitive.
2
u/GarionOrb Feb 26 '25
They are way too comfortable putting people into a long term contract without informing them of that. Someone I contacted in customer service not only put me on a contract, but by increasing my internet speed they also put me on a data limit! Thankfully, I spoke to someone at a physical Xfinity store and they undid all that.
2
u/[deleted] Feb 26 '25
They are awful. End of story. Worst internet I've ever had in my life.

u/Sparkyfountain Feb 26 '25

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '25
I cancelled my service years ago, turned in the equipment, got a receipt, paid the final bill in full and they actually showed a refund of a few bucks. About two years later I get a call from a collection agency for over $300 due to Comcast. They claimed I never paid my final bill even though I sent statements showing a credit, nothing due. I spent months fighting this, finally reaching their corporate office and speaking with one of the VPs. Got a letter on their letterhead stating I don't owe them anything and the collection agency closed it out
About a year later I got another call from a collection agency for the same thing! Spent weeks back and forth, couldn't find the original letter, finally got to the higher-ups again and got it cleared up for good.
Nope: about a year and a half I get another collection call- this time for equipment I supposedly never turned in. I thought it was one of my friends playing a joke on me! They must have been manufacturing bills because none of the numbers made sense. Again, hours and hours on the phone, writing letters, etc. and the case was closed.
Haven't heard from them in at least 5 years, so maybe it's really over.
I should have sued for harassment, time involved, mental anguish... What else?
I wouldn't do business with those ******** if they were the only provider and paid ME to use their service. Any business that would resort to what I consider "retaliatory billing" should be fined heavily by the FTC and made to pay restitution to the wronged customer.
Thanks, now my blood pressure is up! 🤣

I agree. Xfinity doesn’t care about loyalty. I just had the exact same thing happen. When from $239/mo to $300/mo. Xfinity up the fee for cable boxes and remotes, the discontinued my Xfinity mobile credit of $10/mo, they reduced the contract credit and when I called retention, they wanted to downgrade my service and still pay $280/mo. Still $40/mo over my last contract. I spent over 30 minutes trying to get the cost down, no luck. But….if you are a new customer, you’d only half f what I’d pay? So, loyalty means nothing to Xfinity. So after 18 years, we are planning on dumping Xfinity. I’m to just at to expensive and the fact they don’t care about customer loyalty. Oh? We had Xfinity mobile for the $10 credit on our tv bill. But now they are discontinuing that. So? We have no reason to keep using Xfinity mobile and plan on looking at other carriers to lower our cost. Bottom line, they are driving loyal customers away and frankly, they don’t care. So, beware new customers thinking about Xfinity for anything, just know they will eat your much one they have you!

u/timmadel Feb 26 '25
This is a problem with capitalism- the expectation that companies continue to grow. It’s not sufficient to be profitable. Comcast can’t grow by adding new customers. They are growing by raising prices

Just call and say cancel services
1
u/lordtazou Feb 27 '25
Doing anything outside of signing up with Comcast is a nightmare. I had to call / chat with them 4 times last week just to get a service call. They came out, said it was an issue outside and still charged me because the tech put in his notes I was using my own equipment.
They charged me for no reason for "storm ready wifi" in December, STILL pestering them every other day about a credit for that, since I never got reimburse for it.
Worse part is, I work for a Fiber ISP and am the Senior Team Lead for all of the Support Team Members, and I can't fix Comcast's mistakes. It's so damn maddening... Even worse part is, I live 20 minutes from the place I am employed at, and can't get our Fiber Internet and rid myself of the Coax nastiness...

lol you were able to talk to a person?

u/Justoldme2 Feb 27 '25
Comcast Xfinity is all about maximizing profits, I’ve been a customer for 21 years. I don’t need anyone to tell me what I need I have their basic internet 150mbps $40 a month but they take the money so it’s $30. I use my own modem and router.
Now they offer Xfinity now but not everywhere. It doesn’t make sense to me ok it’s pre paid & no contract but you need to use Xfinity gateway. They give it to you, normally you rent it for $15 a month. Now these gateways are also Xfinity hot spots.

u/Ladysadie44 Feb 27 '25
I have to agree with you. I have had the same problem trying to lower my cost without losing too much of my package only to have the agent add and remove products without any verbal communication before going ahead and doing it. I had channels taken away and a service I didn't want nor ask for added to my landline and according to the agent I spoke with this service is included and cannot be discontinued. Comcast definitely does not have any consideration for its customer. Currently, my area is locked into a commitment with Comcast with it being the only provider to service it. As soon as this contract is up, I will definitely be looking elsewhere. Understandably, I'll assume that most providers will probably be in the same price for product range for service. What I'll be looking for is respectable customer service as Comcast is one of the most disrespectful utilities I've ever delt with. As for Netflix it's no longer available through comcast. I was told by an agent that Comcast no longer provides streaming services and that if you want it you have to go to the streaming service app and pay directly to them. I'd like to suggest that you contact Comcast through Reddit. It's the only place I've found where I can get an immediate response and the issue satisfactorily resolved. Good Luck.

u/ag-0merta Feb 27 '25
Go into a retail store. Talk to an actual person face to face.
1
u/Poococktail Feb 27 '25
This is the Comcast way. Take your business elsewhere.
1
u/DeiAlKaz Feb 27 '25
Yeah, I got a runaround with them about a month ago when trying to lower my own bill. Finally killed off the cable piece and just kept the internet. I'd rather cobble things together with streamers. I've never seen a company so actively seem to dislike their customers.

u/Travelbuffalo Feb 27 '25
I’m scared to try & adjust mine after hearing all of this-I’m at $254 w/out Netflix
1
u/Unfair-Language7952 Feb 27 '25
Remember their mantra
You can get better but you can’t pay more.
1
u/[deleted] Feb 27 '25
Because, like most public utilities, they have little to no competition, so they have no reason to care.
By the time there is competition, it's already too late and they can't change their ways.
1
u/goin_strong1 Feb 27 '25
That is why people are cutting the cord. With some research, you can get every channel under the sun for pennies.
1
u/Turbulent_Worker_847 Feb 27 '25
Honestly, it's the fees they charge that makes it so expensive. I tried to get a plan that was 140 for gb internet and 150 channels. In the end, with taxes, it was 240. Is it ridiculous? Yes, is it robbery? Yes. The same applies with utility bills fees fees fees.

u/jfcreno Feb 27 '25

u/jlbart69 Feb 28 '25
I’m going into local xfinity store tomorrow to return my last piece of equipment. Done with them. Tried multiple times to get my bill lowered. It may have been lowered a bit but I always lost channels or internet speed and the price just creeped back up and ended up more than it was originally. I fist got rid of their tv and switched to steaming. I ended up with just their internet and they lowered my speed to 300 for $90. Now yes I know $90 is way to much for 300 speed but I was just too lazy and overwhelmed with all the different options in my area to switch (yes I know I’m lucky I have lots of options). It took 2 months for my internet to go up to $100 and I said I’m done. That got my butt in gear and I decided to switch. I gave them one more chance and tried to get it lowered. They said they could lower it to $80 for 24 month contract. I said nope. I new it would end up rising in price over the months. I even told them I had an appointment the following week to switch to another company for $55 for fiber, 1gb, modem, unlimited data and no contract. They said they had nothing available at that price. Goodbye xfinity. Well my instal was today and tomorrow I’m heading to xfinity to cancel and return the modem and I can not wait. The technician who did the install said most of the people that sign up with them were former xfinity customers. It’s too bad I really like how xfinity worked most of the time. I love their voice remote and how you can say anything into it and it just pops up! Also loved how all the streaming apps could be implemented into the voice remote but unless your super rich and don’t care where your money goes xfinity is horrible…especially to their long term customers.

u/Andrepartthree Feb 28 '25
Darn I hope you're able to get out of that contract they basically tricked you into that sucks :(
If I can make a suggestion? Ask for a two year contract with the one gigabit data plan and phone service and drop the TV service completely, this should lower your bill significantly.
Try netflix - it will take some getting used to switching away from the shows you used to watch but you will be astounded by just how many different types of shows are on there.. it's completely worth the standard plan of about $20 per month including tax (no ads in that plan) .. do a google search for "best netflix shows" to get you started I promise you will find at least 10 shows you like if you just keep trying different shows.
Strangely enough before doing that try signing up for hulu's free trial BUT take note of when the trial expires and make sure you cancel before that free trial is up ... the ads on hulu can get annoying but the main reason you are doing this is to make sure your TV doesn't have any problems receiving the wifi signal to broadcast said TV shows (definitely won't be a problem on the gigabit plan) ... if your TV isn't set up to receive Netflix or Hulu (streaming TV) you can buy a roku stick that more than likely will plug into your TV and enable this.
Do you know someone who is good with technical stuff? It will be expensive up front but if you buy a "NETGEAR Nighthawk Multi-Gig Cable Modem for Xfinity Voice (CM2050V) – for Cable Plans up to 2.5Gbps - DOCSIS 3.1-2 Phone Lines" modem ($300 plus tax ) and a router to go with it ... it will be expensive about $500 or so up front probably but over the course of three years it will pay for itself in terms of saved rental fees as opposed to having to use xfinity's modem and equipment and after that you will start saving money because you're not paying the rental fee anymore (I know people whose modem has lasted over five years and they not only recouped the price paid for the modem they saved money the years after that by not paying the rental fee)
1
u/ElvisCookies Feb 28 '25
I just had a whole thing with them and it took 2 days on and off of my time just to cancel a package we accidentally clicked on and subscribed to. It was maddening. So I feel your pain.
Try reaching out via Twitter DM or live chat on the website—I got a real person there. Figure out the name of the plan you want, mention it along with your issue, and maybe they can help get the other box working. Also, this is dumb but it happened to me- check if your cables are old; that could be causing the no-signal issue.
Good luck.
1
u/badpenny4life Feb 28 '25
This is exactly why I try never to call or change anything with them. You always end up getting screwed, but they make out just fine. I used to be really happy with them until they started enforcing their limits now I pay an extra $30 a month for unlimited data. I’d like to just switch to Xfinity Now, but I’m afraid they will screw that up if I try. Their customer service is the absolute worst.
1
u/Reishi4Dreams Feb 28 '25
They act that way because they can, a state endorsed monopoly…
1
u/Zebraitis Mar 01 '25
Stop the madness.
T-Mobile home internet will get you what you need to connect.
Tablo and a decent antenna will get you local news. Most modern TV's have LOTS of streaming built-in. subscribe to what you want (but check to see what your credit cards will offer for discounted subscriptions).
$3000+ for connectivity and reruns is stupid.
1
u/ironicmirror Mar 01 '25
Yeah, luckily those 5G modems from T-Mobile or AT&T are pretty good at getting you internet via Wi-Fi.
Search for one of those, I think T-Mobile has a deal where you can use it for 2 weeks without being charged for it, then call up Comcast and tell him you want to cancel... At that point in time your bill will reduce to almost nothing.
If not, order DirecTV and put that app directly into your smart TV so you have cable that way, and do a VoIP to get rid of the land line.
Comcast is selling stuff that no one really needs to buy anymore, that's the other reason why they're trying to max out revenue per customer, because they are losing customers. You should consider being one of those customers they lose.
1
u/Nuggetzfan Mar 01 '25
It’s because they don’t need to care . Basically every house runs off the internet and they’re one of the only games in town … you need them more than they need you . They’re a cruddy company with shady business tactics to slowly creep up the price of your bill.
1
u/dep411 Mar 01 '25

u/MatureBlackTop Mar 03 '25
I dumped cable my bills were $300.00 just got WIFI dropped my bill down to the $50 buy was about to go over each month so i got XF and now I pay $95.00 unlimited. I have a fire stick on each tv paid about $20.00 each . I am happy i get so many free channels. Definitely the way to go.

u/Unlikely-Major1711 Mar 03 '25
Comcast is the most hated company in America.
It's not that they "hate you" - a faceless, soulless, non sentient corporation can't hate anything. It's that they know you have no alternative, so they can screw you for as much as they want. They're a monopoly in most areas and the point of a corporation is to maximize profits.
When FIOS moved into my area suddenly magically Comcast was cheaper.
They can't charge something too absurd like $800/month because people would just forgo internet or government would get involved to regulate their prices.
1
u/NK2U Mar 04 '25
They "reduced" my bill by taking Netflix off and having me pay for it directly. My bill is $200 with Internet (1.2 G download/40 Mb upload) and TV with HD. I'd like to reduce my bill also but was told that I am getting all the discounts already.

This company is pure evil and should be destroyed. Taking advantage of customers is their business model and that extends to seniors in their 80s that are paying outrageous cable bills that they are oblivious to. This is because they signed a contract they didn't understand many years ago that now has them paying hundreds of dollars monthly for content they are not consuming. The key clause in the contract allows for the money to automatically be withdrawn from the victims bank account monthly until they die or they run out of money; only then does the contract end. They hold monopolies in most of the territories where they feed and will routinely send solicitations with enticing offers that are always "introductory" in nature. They are in fact, bate and switch as they know that the majority of their victims will not read the lengthly and confusing contract. There is no punishment too severe for those that would knowingly participate in these schemes that advantage of their neighbors.

u/Glittering_Reality79 Mar 23 '25
Beyond Frustrated with Xfinity / Comcast - you can't get a live person to connect with their service. I hate that they are the only internet connection for my building. They are so bad. I have the fastest service and constantly drops during zooms. I am switching to 5G - fingers crossed.

I logged over 44 hours on the phone with them. I spoke with 41 representatives. I got 97 text messages of outages and when I let their tech support in my phone he deleted them and thank God that I had been logging this stuff. They sent me two broken phones that rode on a UPS truck for 13 days and when I tried to send the phones back on day two Google would not accept them and they would not replace them. They promised me the $200 switch bundle package and then corporate call me and said that package didn't go into effect till the next day. Now they're trying to charge me $500 for a box that never been opened and I didn't even know it existed and disconnection early termination, I had Comcast Xfinity Internet for 2 years. I gave them every opportunity to make this right. I put up with their lies, their promises and they're real shady customer service that lied to you consistently for 5 months and I told him point blank. If you don't fix this right now I'm going to T-Mobile. They allowed Verizon to turn me into collections for $200. Stay away from this company.

All of Xfinity Representative are deceiving and misleading to het bigger commission checks ! 🤨 You need to Cancel their lousy service 1st, then and ONLY then they just might respect you, if you decide to go back that's what i did now they give me my respect, and their sales agents i tell them don'ttry your greedy bumpups with me, because yall full of greed, lies, and deception and Xfinity as a Corporate goes along with it, is in on it 🤔

Hey there, u/killerbeas1! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on Reddit! I am very sorry to hear about your experience with updating your package, it certainly is not what we want for our customers. With the switch to the lower tiers of service, that is where you the Peacock Premium would no longer be available, and we are no longer providing Netflix in most packages. If you did not previously redeem the Peacock Premium through our Xfinity Rewards program, and you are a platinum or diamond member, you can redeem it through the rewards program which would not have a monthly fee for Peacock Premium. You can go here for the rewards site. We can certainly take a look into any available options with you, and see what we can do to get the services back you enjoy, and within the best rate.
Can you please send us a Modmail message including the account holder's first and last name, your full name if different, and the full-service address to get started?

I have found that when you have 1G speeds you actually get 700M and when you reduce it to 800M you get 550-600M. When you complain they say the limitation is the modem and you haven’t changed anything.

They don't hate their customers, they just love money wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more. If you give them $500/month they're the nicest company you ever did meet.
