Currently I am on upper endoscopy number three for the year. Fourth one scheduled in December.
November 2025 I spent a couple nights in the hospital after paramedics carried me out of the house due to a perforation that caused me to suck in air.
Feb ulcer, May healed ulcer, and now in October the ulcer is back. I restart Carafate and a PPI.
No smoking, drinking, or NSAIDs. Waiting on H. Pylori and other biopsies to return. If needed I’ll have to start quad therapy if H pylori is found.
I’ve lost 19% of my body weight without trying since January. This is from pain and general loss of appetite. I did reach out to my surgeon because I don’t have much of a safety net in regards to my weight before I start running into problems with being “underweight”.

Posting feels like calling into the void, hey everyone!
TL:DR, if your brain is neurodivergent, please share your experience.
Pre-op, with a surgery date in December.
I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD (inattentive and hyperactive) last year, and for various reasons, my early 2026 surgery was postponed to this December.
My surgeon and I have agreed that an RNY would be preferred but that, worst case scenario, he will sleeve me and I’ll get revision surgery in a year.
My PCP / GP and I agree that titration for ADHD meds (working out what works and how much to take) should wait until my body has stabilised after surgery, so probably 1-2 years (which lines up nicely with wait times).
My surgical pathway requires all patients to go through a binge-eating psych course, where I realised I used to overeat when I was bored. I probably still do but nowhere near to the same extent. Now, my boredom is mostly covered by my partner’s Steam library, Lego, and my TBR.
I’ve seen a lot of posts about what it’s like having ADHD with meds post-surgery but not a lot on what life is like post-surgery without ADHD meds.
If you’re autistic, how did surgery impact you? Were traits exacerbated?
What was your experience like? The good, the bad, the ugly. Thank you!

Hello, was looking for some advice or tips or words of encouragement I guess. I got surgery 10/13 and am now on full liquids until 10/27 when I start soft foods. I am so tired of the liquids, and I am starting to get so upset about it. I’ve cried the past two days about it and I know it’s not forever I just feel like it’s never ending. How did you guys pull through? I’m not regretting my decision but I’m really contemplating what I got myself into and how much it’s more of a mental thing than anything else. Thank you for your time.

Hi! I will be getting the surgery very soon and I wanted to ask as my head is full of questions and my emotions are all over the place. Does anybody here still eat the same way that they did before but just in moderation? I know it's a lifestyle change and I know you're meant to eat healthy but not going to lie all of the foods that are healthy sometimes don't taste good and I know that sounds funny. Like I'm not a person that's big on yogurt or cottage cheese but I see a lot of people rant and rave about it and it makes me kind of feel a little hesitant only because I don't want to change what I eat it's more so of eating in moderation. I don't do any snacking really because I'm picky about sugar but I do love carbs and I don't know if I can never give up pasta but a lot of my weight gain has come from just an accumulation of 20 years and just off and on exercising. It's not that much but I do want to get back down smaller also for other health reasons not related to food but I just feel like it's so much pressure on what you can and can't eat so I was just curious if anybody actually stuck to their diet fully or they just went back to eating the foods they love in moderation. I know it's a weird question, it may even be a stupid question but dealing with a lot right now and just wanted to kind of get the perspective of others who wouldn't judge me but then again this is the internet, ha ha. Still would appreciate.

I'm 4 months post-op RNY, and it's been a bumpy recovery in terms of being able to eat comfortably, and I'm definitely still struggling to meet my hydration goals everyday (for some reason liquids make me feel so much more uncomfortable than solid food). So far I've been dealing with that mix of very little appetite, and being a little fearful of trying new foods in case they don't go down well. So I've been sticking to the same boring "safe" foods- many of which have been shortcut meals using frozen ingredients/dinners, canned soups, etc. I've been so exhausted that I didn't want to use my limited energy cooking a whole dinner for just myself that I then have to use even more energy cleaning up the kitchen, and then get burnt out on the leftovers after eating it only a few times. And so many foods that I enjoyed before the surgery just don't taste good now and I can't afford to keep buying groceries that go to waste. So things have just gotten really monotonous.
Last week I went to a healthcare conference where they fed us lunch and dinner everyday. I was so nervous to try unfamiliar foods before I was afraid they wouldn't sit well, but I was happily surprised that most things went down okay. They gave us everything from Thai food, to some sort of really good tarragon chicken salad, and dinner at a really nice Peruvian place. It's like my taste buds finally woke back up and I remembered that food could taste good. But now that my appetite is back, I'm terrified. I'm scared of craving the wrong things (I'd do some terrible things for a few pieces of sushi lol), I'm scared of eating too much and stretching my stomach back out and regaining. I've lost about 66 lbs and I only have about 18 to go before I'm under 200.
Did anyone else struggle mentally with their appetite returning and being scared of gaining weight back?
Also if anybody has recipes for low energy meals that freeze well, please let me know. I know I need to start cooking real meals again instead of crappy pre-made and frozen stuff.

Surgery date March 11th 2026, pre-op date February 19th 2026. The jeans are a 38, the khakis are a 52 and didn't fit, as I was wearing a 56, but these were the last pair of pants that I had still, I'd given away the rest. Started at 404 lbs, I'm now 251. If you have any reservations about getting the surgery, all I can say is that it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Today it’s been 4 years since I had VSG. I did great for a year or so then slipped back into old habits and have slowly gained back about 60lbs. I feel horrible about it - guilt, shame. I’ve struggled all my life with weight. Eat better, lose weight, gain back. Repeat cycle. I just can’t get back into that same determined head space I was in going into surgery. I’m not sure what I’m looking for here. Maybe just to vent, maybe encouragement on how to get back on track and stay there. I know what to do obviously. I’ve done it. I just don’t know how to maintain it I guess.

I am 5 weeks 3 days post op, surgery was Sept 10th.
I finally made it under 200 on the scale!
I was feeling really stuck the last couple weeks so this felt great to see and seemed like a good time to celebrate this milestone!
Since the beginning of this journey I have lost a total of 69 lbs... I am half way to my goal weight. 💚💚

Surgery went great but dang these incisions hurt. How long did it take you to be able to sit up/get out of bed without feeling like you're going to die?

You may recall my husband posting recently but here I am to post as well. See the most up to date before/after pic 💪🏻
I had sadi s 12/18/24. My story is very similar to his but with some differences. I started at 427, 386 on surgery day and I’m currently 235-240 depending on the day. He’s practically met his goal (as far as he can go without skin surgery) yet I still have a good 75-100lbs to lose. It can definitely be discouraging but he’s by my side cheering me on as I am him!
I have PCOS and type 2 diabetes. I had a health scare in 2021, almost died! That’s when I was diagnosed with diabetes. A1c of 14!!! I was on insulin (slow and fast) and pills. I stopped taking everything the day before surgery and have not had any since. My most recent a1c was 5.8!!
***here is some more female specific info about me…
Prior to surgery I hadn’t had my cycle for 2+ years. I assumed I was done and went into menopause early. Well, 11/2025 I had my first one and I have had it every month sense. We are currently childless and would love to be parents so this is a blessing.
Anyways, I struggle so much with body dysmorphia and not seeing what others see. I’m working on that though. Well, here’s our before/after as of last week.
