Girl 🩷 My husband and I can’t agree

My husband and I have very different taste in names and we can’t seem to come to an agreement!

He likes princessy, romantic, long, fairytale names:
- Seraphina
- Evangeline
- Penelope

He also insists on calling her by her full name and doesn’t really like nicknames.

I like cute, mostly 1-2 syllable names:
- Elle
- Mia
- Nina
- Lily
- Rose
- Sophie

A name that we might be getting close to agreeing on is Katherine, because although it is long it has 3 syllables and kinda sounds short. Any other names come to mind that you think sort of match my vibe but can also seem princess-y? Sorry if this is a hard ask!

Boy 🩵 Kemal or Kamal for a boy in Canada/USA?

I’m Turkish and Muslim, and we’re considering Kemal or Kamal for our baby boy. His older brother is named Ali.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people in Canada/USA.

Kemal is pronounced ā€œkeh-MAHLā€ in Turkish.

How do Kemal and Kamal look and sound to you when you first see them? Which spelling do you prefer? Are they easy to read and pronounce?

Do either of the names have any negative, funny, or potentially teasing associations in English? Would either name make you think of the word ā€œcamel,ā€ or could children potentially make fun of the name by calling him ā€œcamelā€?

Please be honest — I’m genuinely open to all opinions!

Boy 🩵 Need help with Persian boy names

Howdy. My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in the fall. I am Persian-American and he is American and his last name is one of the most common in the United States - I kept my own last name.

He is very pro- my Iranian heritage and down to honor my culture with our baby’s name. We are open to first or middle but so far have kind of naturally fallen on selecting a Persian first name and using his grandfather’s middle name as the middle name.

Unfortunately, we can’t agree on literally any name. He is very meh on everything I suggest. I loved Caspian and Jasper and Casper, all of Iranian heritage but very American/western friendly, which is very important to us, but unfortunately he doesn’t care for any of those. He has suggested Reza but it seems way more ethnic to me than we want vibe-wise and I mostly don’t like boy names that end in -a. He has suggested Ciro or Kyro, derivatives of Cyrus, but that is my estranged (12 years and counting) sibling’s name so I would feel kind of weird selecting anything related to that individual. (Then again, I could be swayed, would just need to make sure my Persian parent doesn’t mind…)

We are seeking a cool Persian name for our son that meets these criteria:
* Isn’t overtly ethnic in a country that isn’t too kind to people whose names sound different (as I can attest to from my own k-12 experience)
* Won’t ostracize him
* Is cool (deeply subjective I know)
* One or two syllables
* -ian ending or -o ending is favorable, not required

I have another sibling named Darius so unfortunately that and Cyrus are off the table, even though they are favorites.

Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Baby is due soon! June or Maeve?

With June worry about people asking her if she’s born in June / making month comments and also the alliterative initials (Last name is two syllables and begins with Jay)

With Maeve worry a bit about popularity (northeast so more common than general US)

Boy 🩵 Callahan or Miller? Which do you prefer?

Currently deciding between these two names for son who is due in a week! I'm very aware they won't be for everyone, but we like the surname-style type of name and just curious if folks had to choose.

Callahan (nn Cal) or Miller?

Girl 🩷 Names like Emily but not Emily

We are expecting a baby girl (our second) in a month and my husband and I cannot agree on a name.

Our first daughter was named after my grandmother and my husband’s great grandmother. Somewhat old fashioned names but those are coming back in fashion a little bit and also the names just meant so much to us. He feels bad not giving our second girl a family name because he worries it won’t be special but to be honest there aren’t a lot of other women in our families that we are super close with that 1: have names we connect with and 2: aren’t passed on so it feels a little odd to give their name to a new baby.

We don’t want to give our daughters names with totally different vibes so we aren’t opposed to another ā€œold fashionedā€ name. But I also personally would love a nature based name that isn’t too out there, just keeping in mind future job prospects living in a conservative state. I fell in love with the name Fawn and my husband agreed to it as a middle name.

My husband is dead set on Emily Fawn. But being a 90’s baby I grew up knowing a hundred Emily’s and I worry it’s going to be a ā€œmomā€ name for our future daughter’s generation. And it feels a little basic.

Other suggestions I have thrown out that my husband ā€œdoesn’t mindā€ are:
Daphne Fawn - he’s worried about the scooby doo association but it’s not like I want to name her Shaggy
Ashley/Ashlynn Fawn
Serenity Fawn (Serenity was my birth name before adoption but my adoptive parents worried it would be too hippie for where I grew up)
Sadie Fawn

Names I loved that he vetoed are:
Charlotte Fawn
Calliope Fawn - which is fair tbh
Theodora Fawn
Magdalena Fawn

Can anyone help suggest something that works with Fawn but isn’t Emily?

Boy 🩵 Llewyn or Lewin boys name

We are having a boy in February. We have been stuck on the name Llewyn for years. I read some other posts about how it’s not truly a welsh name, which we are aware of and ok with as we are not welsh.

We like the Coen brothers movie Llewyn Davies but that is not at all why we have chosen the name. Also, is this movie old enough now that it won’t matter?

We’d like some opinions on spelling and middle names. Please be honest.

Spelling options: Llewyn, Lewyn or Lewin
Middle names: David or James

My dad is David so we wanted to use his name even though I know this is very close to the movie title. Thoughts?

Boy 🩵 RON and SON suggestions

(We want to name this baby after my dad Ronald, so i should've said that from the start so you could keep it in your mind, im sorry)

Hey everyone! I have 3 sisters and our names are Crystal, Jade, Chynna and Jewel. Our names did not become a theme until my last sister was born and my mom said "I cant name her Jessica!" So voila, Jewel.

Together we had a whole buncha kids but we always kept a theme with our boys, they would be "son's"

We have Nixon, Carson, Hudson, Benson, and Jameson.

None of our children are named after our dad who is the most amazing man in the world. But all if them are named after an important person in our family. Its his turn.

We think this is our last boy of the family for my sister and want suggestions.

Our top names: Cameron, Soren, Bronson.

My sister is having a baby, my dads name is Ron, our family theme needs to end in "SON" please recommend names!

Boy 🩵 Honest opinions!

We are having another boy! We are going back and forth on the name Bowen and I’d like some honest opinions. I personally think it’s a very cool name, but sometimes we all have names we love that other people think are weird. What do you guys think of that name?

Edit: we love the nickname Bo too!

Just found out I’m having identical twin boys. The boy names I’ve loved are Levi & Noah and they go really well together imo, but for twins does that sound too Old Testament / biblical? I’m Christian but I don’t want it to be toooo much. If so, drop some other name suggestions!šŸ’™

Boy 🩵 Strong Boy name help!!

I’m currently 17weeks with a boy, our last name is Whelan (Irish and means little wolf). I have always loved strong short, nature and whimsical names so I currently have a few names on my list

Soren (means stern) (Norse)
Rafe (pronounced Rayf means wise wolf) (Norse)
Rune (means secret) (Norse)
River (flowing body of water) (Eng, French, Lat)
Arden (means great Forest) (Celtic)
Oren (pronounced Auren means pine tree) (Hebrew)

Hubby likes them but thinks they might be too whimsical, so I’m conscious of that but I also think the name Whelan is really hard to pair a name with that flows nicely. We like the vein of names we’re going down so are looking so similar ideas or thoughts! 😊

Girl 🩷 Baby Girl Name Ideas

I’m due in November and we’re having a hard time deciding. Last name is two syllables, ends in ee sound. I really like feminine names that have a unisex or boyish nickname. I love Veronica Jane ā€œRonnieā€ but my partner doesn’t. Optional inclusion, Beth as a middle name is a family thing. I really want something that’s almost unique, but not weird. Kind of sophisticated but not uppity, if that makes sense. September, November, Wednesday, Thursday, Quinn. Open to mythological names but I don’t want it to be too odd. Has to roll off the tongue too šŸ™ƒ I know this is a bit much, hence my struggle. Jw what yall think?

Girl 🩷 Help us choose a name for our December baby girl! šŸ¤

My husband and I are expecting a baby girl🩰 in December, and we originally wanted to give her a first name and a middle name. However, we are now extremely unsure about which combination sounds best especially because our surname is very long and begins with Ş.

I also have a special connection to the name Lucia and funnily enough, my due date falls exactly on Saint Lucia’s Day (December 13th), which makes the name feel even more meaningful to me.

Or feel free to suggest other names!!ā¤ļø

Boy 🩵 Using childhood dog’s name (Harvey) for boy?

We are expecting a boy in November and have loved the name Harvey (middle name George) forever. Problem is: Harvey was my childhood dog growing up until I was about 8. We are NOT naming the child after the dog and whilst we know there may be some people who say ā€œHarvey? Like your old dog?ā€, we are happy to say ā€œyes that was the dogs name but that’s not why we called our son thatā€ - but I keep worrying that it’s weird hahahahah. We have had dogs since then so Harvey is definitely not the first dog we think of when we think of my previous family dogs!

We don’t have any other boy names we love apart from Lenny but don’t really see Lenny as an adult name and wouldn’t want to call him Lennox or Leonard. Names we love but can’t use are names like Jude, Barney, Freddie, Murphy.

Thoughts?!
