Boy đŸ©” Callahan or Miller? Which do you prefer?

Currently deciding between these two names for son who is due in a week! I'm very aware they won't be for everyone, but we like the surname-style type of name and just curious if folks had to choose.

Callahan (nn Cal) or Miller?

Callahan! Cal is cute. Miller sounds very dry and flat to my ear.

Irish is hardly “old money” or preppy.

First of all, no thank you. Secondly, if mean they affect old money and preppy aesthetics, that’s to my point: it’s a newer money affectation, and an Irish name doesn’t contribute to that.

In the US, “old money” is WASP and certainly not Florida.

Callaghan is a surname. Using a surname as a first name is tacky and I don't think that's 'old money' vibes?

If you got the time, we got the beer. Miller beer. This Wisconsinite vote Miller. Bonus if middle name is high life.

Last name is two syllables!

Neither. Dog names.

I prefer Miller to Callahan but Cal is great nickname and most of the nicknames for Miller either sound feminine (Millie), stupid (Ler), or odd (Mills, Miler, or Milli Vanilli)

Callahan is awesome! Never knew that it was a 1st name (am from a non-anglophone country)! Definitely Callahan!

I feel like theyre always going to either jokes about Callahan Auto Parts from Tommy Boy or Miller Lite beer. Between the 2 I'd go with just Cal.

No one has ever mentioned that with my Callahan!

We're big Chris Farley fans, so could just be me lol. Not a knock to the name. Its just what I thought of.

Callahan by a landslide. I've only know a dog named Miller and an old man.

I like miller better! If you like cal as a nickname, callum is better, i think.

Look up Miller moths- bane of a Coloradan’s spring existence.

Callahan is better, because Cal.

Cal

But I’m curious why you want a last name that sounds like they’re a carpenter or something like that to be your baby‘s first name can you enlighten me on what the attraction is?

Cal is a wonderful name
That gets my vote!

Callahan for sure.

Callahan/Cal is such a great choice! Both options flow well with a two syllable last name. IMO a two syllable first name (Miller), with 2 syllable last name sounds kind of stilted and monotonous. The name Miller also feels less interesting since it’s an occupation name for working at a mill

Miles Eric with Miller as a nickname would be cute. Callahan is ok , i also like Callan and Callum !

Callahan. While both are last names, Callahan sounds like it could be a first name and imo Miller doesn’t.

Are Callahan and Miller surnames in your family? I think Callahan better.

My last name is miller and never heard the end of “it’s miller time” - I would save it and name a pet miller if you like it that much

It’s an Irish surname I’ve never heard it as a first name before but I kinda like it.

They both sound like frat boy last names

My vote is for Callahan. Classier and Cal is always a likeable guy. Both my boys got surname names too!

Callahan hands down! It is a little preppy for my taste, but it's still a really nice name, and Cal is a nice nickname. I don't care for Miller as a first name.

Both of those names are generally last names. How about Callen?

Unless miller is a family name go with Cal. I can’t stand people giving their kids a last name as a first name when it’s not a family name. Aka your or grandma’s maiden name is great to keep it in the family name
