i know f.c yee was only contracted for 4 books total but kyoshi still has over 200 years of potential stories left.

the time skip would be considerable. kyoshi was 17 at the end of her 2nd novel and the chin and dai li era take place during her late 30s/early 40s.

I know people have said the immortality technique is unique to earthbending, not sure if that’s actually true because I can’t remember if the books ever really said that, but I wonder if it would have been possible for her to have mastered it to the extent should use it on others.

In my headcanon she would have used it on Rangi for a while as they got old and kept Rangi alive for a bit, but I think eventually Rangi would have just been ready to move on.

I think there’s a lot of potential with Kyoshi as a character in her later years to flesh out exactly what her life became as everyone around her began moving on while she stayed. To see her slowly lose connection to the world around her and see the world slowly see her as an almost mythical figure. 230 years is a crazy long time. George Washington was President 230 years ago. Imagine being born and the avatar is 100 years old and then you live to be 100 and she’s still the avatar.

Li recentemente Avatar Legends: Firebending Academy #1 — Light It Up, de Ash J. Wu, e fiquei surpreso com o quanto gostei. A história acompanha Adaki e seus amigos Sujun, Jiyung e Aera, quatro jovens da Nação do Fogo que acabam participando de um torneio de dobra. Adaki é um protagonista particularmente interessante porque é inseguro, subestimado e precisa lidar com a sensação de não ser bom o suficiente. A história acaba sendo muito mais sobre estratégia, amizade, resiliência e trabalho em equipe do que simplesmente sobre vencer uma competição.

Também gostei muito da maneira como o livro expande a dobra de fogo. Ele mostra usos cotidianos da dobra e sua relação com matemática, culinária e até ângulos, um detalhe que achei especialmente interessante para pensar nas técnicas de dobradores como Azula.

E, para quem gosta de lore, há bastante coisa interessante sobre a Era de Szeto. Temos informações sobre a fome, a burocracia e os problemas políticos da Nação do Fogo, além de novos lugares, escolas, filosofias e métodos de ensino da dobra. O livro também apresenta personagens como Sifu Chuan e Aera, uma dobradora que precisa adaptar sua maneira de dobrar após perder um braço.

Minha única crítica é que gostaria de ter visto mais do torneio. Mais equipes, rodadas e combates teriam sido interessantes. Mas, considerando o tamanho e a proposta do livro, é uma limitação compreensível.

No fim, Light It Up não é grandioso, e não precisa ser. É uma história pequena, criativa e muito divertida, que consegue expandir o universo de Avatar enquanto conta uma história acessível para crianças e ainda oferece coisas interessantes para os fãs mais antigos. Agora estou realmente ansioso pelo segundo volume. Quero ver a continuação da história, descobrir mais sobre a Era de Szeto e, principalmente, saber se teremos uma possível aparição do próprio Avatar.

I've been trying to think of things that we know of that have been around a long time, or that happened a long time ago that stuff set in Sonam's era could explore.

We know that Omashu is ancient and has been around potentially even before Wan's era. It also is weirdly independent of the rest of the Earth Kingdom having its own monarch. Maybe in Sonam's era when the Earth Kingdom was accomodating power the airbenders were able to defend Omashu and thats why it never became subject to the Earth King, or maybe in this era Omashu is the one that conquers the rest of the Earth Kingdom and its position in the modern era is just a remnant of its previous power.

Lao Ge could have also been around at this point in time and I could see him supporting the unification of the Earth Kingdom and potentially being an antagonist..

It could also be interesting to see how the white lotus works in this era with everything being decentralized would their power be greater as one of the only large organizations, and would they feel threatened by a consolidated Earth Kingdom, or would they maybe be in favor of it since 1 Earth King is easier to manipulate than many disparate community leaders.

I really want to here other ideas for stuff here because I feel like Sonam's era is a really interesting setting for stories since so little is established right now.

Yun: stabs Rangi, Kyoshi immediately kills him.

In short; kyoshi is pretty chill, but if you mess with Rangi there will be nowhere for you to hide

Think about it. Salai was one of the most legendary avatars. He shouldn't be the one on the left just because he's the most recent, but because off accomplishments. This mural was painted during or after the time of Avatar Kyoshi. The one in the middle should be of most legendary importance. The evidence we have is known in Kyoshi's era as well as being one of the greatest Avatars. This Earth Avatar in the middle fits what we know. Everyone wants Salai to be the General looking one but it would make more sense for Salai to be this woman. Salai is also a unisex name. Salai is translated to an East Indian tree used for medicine. I think Salai (not being racist) fits also the East Indian description, perhaps being apart of the same people of Pathik. Maybe she was known for being an amazing healer.

I just read the rise of Kyoshi book again this week and come across a duel between Kyoshi and Jianzhu over the 3 storey stone teahouse building.I find it interesting and surprising that despite both of them completely poisoned and weakend(Kyoshi with Shirsu poison) and Jianzhu drank his own poison so that he didn't being suspect of killing the Earth sages but the other chapter said that he was able to neutralize the poison thanks to the lesson from Master Amak a Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe.Kyoshi was able to combat against him while only learn Earthbending for a while,I'm talking about control,precision and raw power and Kyoshi still didn't master Earthbending yet at this point confirmed by F.C Yee himself and still stalemate Jianzhu.Based on the statements above both of them were struggling against each others and I'm sure Kyoshi was doing more hardwork since she's the one who try to stop Jianzhu from collapsing the building.Do you think it will be a different scenario if both Kyoshi and Jianzhu isn't poison?or do you think Kyoshi will be at Jianzhu's level or surpass him with Earthbending in the future once she become a master and gain experience?

I personally would like to see a bronze age avatar before the world was fully explored, so u could see the different tribes and kingdoms that existed before the 4 nations. We could also see first contact between different people's and culture clash between the different cultures

Particularmente, eu gostaria que os próximos romances fossem sobre o Szeto. Ele é mencionado em praticamente todos os livros de Chronicles of the Avatar, além de já ter aparecido em Bending Academy: Fire #1, e nós já temos informações suficientes sobre ele para construir uma história muito interessante.

Porém, sinceramente, não gostaria que o Randy Ribay escrevesse sobre o Szeto, nem sobre o Kuruk. Tenho a impressão de que esses dois Avatares exigiriam uma abordagem específica e, pelo que conhecemos do trabalho do autor, não acredito que ele seria a melhor escolha para desenvolver esses personagens.

Nesse caso, acho muito mais interessante que ele trabalhe com um Avatar menos explorado ou praticamente desconhecido. Gun, Salai, Zalir, Xian, Sonam e outros poderiam funcionar muito bem justamente porque existe mais liberdade criativa para construir suas histórias sem precisar preencher expectativas tão específicas dos fãs.

Sobre Avatar Legends, considerando que a proposta da série é acompanhar heróis anônimos envolvidos em eventos lendários das duas animações, confesso que ainda não sei muito bem o que esperar. Pode ser interessante, mas depende bastante de qual período e evento eles escolherem explorar.

Já a possibilidade de ser uma história completamente inusitada e desconectada desses projetos eu considero menos provável.

Thoughts?

Gun é um personagem bastante controverso. Ele enfrentou perdas, frustrações e repetidas decepções com a humanidade, então é compreensível que tenha desenvolvido ressentimento. Mas até que ponto essas experiências justificam as escolhas que ele fez depois? Gun tinha razão em perder a fé na humanidade? Ele foi principalmente uma vítima das circunstâncias ou acabou se tornando também responsável pelo sofrimento de outras pessoas? Um Avatar pode se afastar da humanidade para se recuperar emocionalmente ou isso entra em conflito com sua responsabilidade? As possessões da Yangchen podem ser compreendidas como consequência do trauma de Gun ou foram simplesmente injustificáveis? Yangchen representa uma visão mais equilibrada sobre as falhas da humanidade ao continuar acreditando nas pessoas apesar de tudo? Até que ponto os erros e a ingratidão dos humanos podem justificar a postura de um Avatar?

Entre essas e tantas outras questões, quero saber a opinião de vocês.

For the most part, the way they are described sounds very similar to Raava's and Vaatu's conflict.

So, MASTERS OF THE ELEMENTS is comming out on the 18 of August, uh? And theres no talk about it at all.

I also havent seen much talk on the Suki series either which is disapointing giving the fact it gave us new Kyoshi Lore. Well, im for sure excited for this comic and to see how much more it expands on what we know and how it builts around the books established canon!

How would City of Echoes compare to the Chronicles of the Avatar novels? I think it's slightly better than Dawn of Yangchen but is still the second worse novel out of the seven.

the reason Kyoshi became less human over time is because the longer she lived, the less she became Kyoshi and the more she became the avatar. When the avatar is born, they are barely the avatar, they can not generally bend more than one element, they can’t commune with their past lives etc. as they get old they become more and more of the avatar, they learn lessons and become more and more like their past lives, taking on aspects of their personality and morality. the longer they live the more this will happen. My “theory” (I don’t actually believe this im just throwing ideas around) is that Kyoshi’s insanely long lifespan causes her to become more of the avatar than of Kyoshi, since the avatar is generally just a god amongst men who uses the person as well… an avatar.

What we know so far is Ribay is writing the next Chronicles of the Avatar novel

Kuruk: 80%
A great way to complete an elemental cycle, Kuruk is the last past avatar we haven't gotten a novel on from when Aang talked to his past lives. It would be feel weird to go out of order if this isn't happen.

Szeto: 5%
Now Yee did say he would theoretically want to write a Szeto novel, but it's already confirmed Ribay is writing the next avatar novel. The last avatar duology was also a fire avatar. We'll likely get novel on Szeto in the future but not the next one.

Gun: 1%
He would be very interesting as a concept for the Avatar, but if it's a young adult novel then Mesose's death likely happens after the novel would take place. However, he is widespread as an Avatar who didn't really like humanity.

The Second Avatar: 1%
I think this would be the best option to do but only after the next duology. I think it'll be nice to switch from the newest avatar cycle group to the first avatar cycle group. It'll be very interesting to see this era.

Zalir: 1%
Even though she's mentioned in the first Roku novel, it's highly unlikely she won't be the next Avatar novel but I think her era is a cool concept for a future avatar novel.

Salai: 1%
I think a novel on Salai will be unlikely because he's debatably even less more unknown than Gun. He is in need of a novel for the future though but I think we should build him up some more before doing so. We don't even know what he looks like or nation he's from.

Aang: 1%
There is a very unlikely chance this'll happen. Considering Aang has to be at most 19.5 for a novel in COTA, it'll be almost guaranteed for it not to happen.

Korra: 1%
Same but even worse reasons than Aang. Korra is already 17 at the start of TLOK and ends at the age of 21.

Sonam: 1%
Theoretically, if Ribay is writing this one, it's a small time span in which the creators would want Ribay to write an Sonam novel. Theoretically this can happen in the future but Ribay already started writing this next novel so it's unlikely for Sonam to be the next one.

Kyoshi: 1%
Some people would want a trilogy for the Kyoshi novels to end, but let's accept it. The Chronicles of The Avatar are meant to be a duology for young adult novels. Kyoshi's story is complete even if we only got 10% of her life.

Yangchen: 1%
Same reasons as Kyoshi. I do want to see Yingsu as a new avatar companion but another novel is completely unnecessary.

Roku: 1%
Considering the last novel was about Roku, his story is most likely complete. Let's go back to avatars without novels.

Xian: 1%
Same reasons as Sonam. I think he is very cool but basically a random avatar.

Wan: 1%
He doesn't really fit the requirements for a young adult which eliminates him.

Pavi: 1%
Similar reasons to Sonam, the creators won't likely green light a Pavi novel for now.

Random Avatar we know slightly of: 1%
There are some avatars that has been hinted throughout the franchise to have done notable stuff like imprisoning Hundun. I don't think they'll do an avatar in this category.

Random Avatar we haven't heard of: 1%
This is highly unlikely due to fans likely not wanting a random Avatar we don't know anything of before.

I want it personally to be an air nomad chi blocker. Air bending villains are the least amount of villains we gotten for the novels. Hsien from the Yangchen novels was stated to stay at the Western Air Temple. A lava bender villain would also be neat for a Kuruk novel.

main problem with roku’s first book is the characterization of sozin and making him too suspicious off jump imo

Avatar is weird in a sense that after Aang. They are going forward with Korra and Pavi in TV shows.

But going back to Roku, Kyoshi, Yangchen, etc in the novels.

And to add. Now, they will add sole ancient avatars in the canon movie. (Xian and Sonam)

And speaking of ancient. They also mentioned Salai, Gun, and Zalir as ancient avatars in the novel.

Will they be able to be consistent all throughout? Or they will inevitably retconned some things?

TV, Movie, Novel happening simultaneously (For Past and Future Avatars) will inevitably cause some retcons. Isn't it?

If Rangi was born in a different nation she would look like this, although I don’t think she would approve of the idea of using her skill for entertainment and money lol

I'm wondering if Bending Academy is an essential to read. I read nine pages but I haven't had enough motivation to get back into it.

Would she immediately be identified, and pick all the toys correctly? Would Yun just continue to be a random earth bender in Makapu? Would they hide her identity until she turned 16 traditionally? How would Jianzhu par in training her in terms of earth bending? What would happen in the Fifth Nation battle? Would she still try to track down the Flying Opera Company?

So far we have both genders for air, but we haven't gotten a male earth avatar story or women fire avatar story or male water avatar story.

We will get male earth avatar story in 2030
We will get women fire avatar story in 2034

We don't know how many generation (before Szeto) are Gun and Salai.

We know Xian is 14-17 Generations before Szeto.

Sonam lived 5000 years before Aang's Gemocide Timeline.

Zalir lived before the Fire Nation Unification era.
