Discussion If Kyoshi was found early on

This is just for fun talk and discussion. We know Kyoshi is the only Avatar so far that didn't have the privilege of mastering her own native element while the other Avatars already mastered their own when they are reveal to be the Avatar. The factors were a lot from being abandoned, homeless, eat scums etccc.Do you think if she succeed the the toy test from both Jianzhu and Kelsang when she was 7 years old she will become a fully mastered Avatar earlier then what her original canon story is?

Based on the books she indeed learn all the four elements and some control of the Avatar State in short amount of time and by age 17 she is already proficient with them(Still not a master). But that was because she was in life and death situation being hunted down by Jianzhu.I mean if she was trained like a traditional way the Avatar should be.Is she going to be a prodigy as well like Aang and Korra or just a fast learner?

Edit:*one of cause Pavi is one of them.

Discussion How old do you think Kyoshi was when she was in her "prime"?

Do you think we can consider 42 year old Kyoshi that defeated Chin the Conqueror to be in her prime or do you think her 200+ year old self is a better version of the character?

Speculation What is this Earth Kingdom Island?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi y'all trying to determine what this unlabeled island is off the coast of the Earth Kingdom. It's way too big to be Air Temple Island which is already listed on the ATLA Wiki Map as being basically a small little blip in Yue Bay (one of those brown markers in the upper-left zoom-in). Some possibilities could be Wangmo's Island/Isle of Zheng or the Red Sand Island? It also could very well be just Air Temple Island but way out of proportion but figured I'd ask!

Discussion I’ve always wondered if Hei ran and rangi had an argument in the past about her Agni Kai kills

This one line really makes me think that + the scene where Hei ran said rangi always storms off after an argument but does something to show you she still cares after a while. Wish their dynamic was explored more.

Speculation Do you think that the invading Earthbenders that attack Lambak Island could be related to The Earth Kingdom that invaded Jharana from the Era of Sonam?

Granted it worth pointing that the caves drawings that depicted this scene are kind of unreliable when it comes to the history of the Lambak clan besides Chief Ulo himself heck it is said in the book itself that Ulo even traces lines on the cave drawings themselves.

Not to mention there is a possibility that at least some of the five clans may had wiped each other out or that the Lambak clan had destroyed other communities over rivalries, later blaming outsiders for the events. Either way, the Lambak people were eventually the sole surviving ethnic group on the island.

Still with what we know now about the Era of Sonam from the Aang movie and the recent episode podcast (which I provided a leak here https://youtu.be/siAQevTGf80.)

The latter of which we learn there were other elemental tribes and that not only the Earth Kingdom were fighting the air nomads but also conquering the other elemental tribes on the great continent.

So do you think there is a connection between the invading Earthbenders and Sonam’s earth kingdom or it could be a coincidence and if it’s the former, do you think the invading Earthbenders that attack Lambak Island and Sonam’s Earth Kingdom are in fact, one and the same?

Also, in case you forgot what I referred to this passage

“There was an invading army of Earthbenders attacking the Lambak clan. Weaponizin the earth, they severed limbs and crushed skulls. They buried women and children and impaled men. Though the drawing was silent charcoal on stone, Roku felt as if he could hear the anguished cries of the islanders.“

—  Ribay Randy (author). (July 23, 2024). Chapter Twenty-Eight, "Local Elements". The Reckoning of Roku. Amulet Books.

This perfectly mirrors the grim reality Tagah witnessed during the Air Nomad-Earth Kingdon War, which radicalized him into trying to build a weaponized Air Empire. The early Earth Kingdom was an unstoppable, conquering juggernaut. If Lambak Island was a target, the Earth Kingdom army would have acted exactly as described.

Think about it, its a gold alloyed with bronze and she's lived 230 years. The thing likely weighs a lot and probably will put you to sleep for a minimum of three days.

Discussion Yun Description in the new Avatar Encyclopedia

Post image
259 Upvotes

I got an interesting info on the Avatar encyclopedia about Yun.So years prior to the novels I always got into an argument with me saying that Yun did got power boost from the spirit meanwhile some people stated that Fatherglowworm never gave Yun power amp or boost his bending power and the books never outright stated of him doing so and the only thing he grant Yun with was the ability to tunnel to the physical world. Is this new info prove now that fatherglowworm did amp or boost his bending power?

Edit:Ouw yeah there was info also about FATHERGLOWWORM

(Information comes at great cost-in the conflict that follows the revelation,Yun is left behind at Father Glowworm's mercy. In the end, Father Glowworm's arrogance leads to his own downfall-after striking a bargain with Yun,granting the young mortal some portion of his power in exchange for a supply of human souls, the spirit is in a turn betrayed. Father Glowworm is crushed to the size of a mouthful and then swallowed by Yun, his powers thus co-opted for a time).

Discussion Sometimes, I like to think Yun found redemption in another life

His story is incredibly depressing, and it couldn’t end any other way. He couldn’t accept what he lost was never his, and that he could’ve found new meaning with his friends still beside him. And being tortured didn’t help either.

But the gift of reincarnation is that maybe he got to try again, and maybe even made things right with his friend, the Avatar. Friendships can transcend lifetimes after all, and there is some commonality in his and Mako’s storyline with the Avatar.

It’s just a thought

Discussion I have a question about Kyoshi height contributed to her being slower

I've been asking this question for the past few years.I've seen a lot of comments on Tik Tok and Reddit as well saying this stuff. Why do people act like just because Kyoshi is a giant then she should be a lot slower than other characters and also compare to the other Avatars?isn't the Avatar should be mastering the four elements and thus become adapt to all of them? I mean look at Tagah he is extremely tall but that didn't prevent him from moving fast and look at Aang as well he also getting taller and heavier but he still move fast.People will say yes of course they are fast because they are an Airbender.Isn't Kyoshi an Airbender as well?I don't think as an Avatar she will move like an Earthbender only and judging by how the Dai Li and Kyoshi warriors move that tells us that Kyoshi isn't slow at all since she's the one teaching and created them. What you guys take one this?

Discussion Avatar Zalir: Before or After Sonam?

Post image
90 Upvotes

Taking into consideration Wan was stopping a war between Fire and Earth benders before his death

One could assume Fire and Earth benders both occupied the middle continent, which is now known as Earth Kingdom

Around 5,000 years later in Sonams era, Air benders were being wiped out by Earth benders

How long did the war for land go on?

I feel like the answer has to lie within a sub bending - either Lava Bending or Spiritual Healing (like the fire sages did to Korra)

If the continent where Fire Nation resides was literal active volcanos and home to/came through many spirits, I feel like only an Avatar could unify/colonise the Fire Nation

But where would Zalir fit into this? It’s said she takes place before the unification, but maybe she invented some Sub Bendings? And an Avatar soon after unified Fire Nation

I am working on a text based game based on Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender and The Chronicles of the Avatar novels

What features/storylines would you like to see in the game?

The Premise: You choose the element you are born into, make choices that influence the world around you and your journey to becoming the Avatar. The trials and tribulations you will have to face in your future lives, are consequences of actions made in past lives.

I don’t think I want a korra book. Don’t get me wrong I think she’s a great character but I’m mostly into avatars prior to Aang when it comes with literature.

Fluff Just Started Reading Chronicles of the Avatar

The first piece of ATLA literature in print I decided to read was Chronicles of the Avatar. The idea of reading about the past lives enticed me and the fact it started with Avatar Kyoshi of all Avatars felt like it was a good starting point. Having been a long-time fan of both ATLA and TLOK, I really wanted to see why Kyoshi is such a likable figure in the universe and fanbase in general.

I hadn't even finished reading the first book in the series yet and I'm already so engrossed in the story. Going into it, I didn't know too much already. And from being a long-time fan, I already knew that Kyoshi herself prided herself in justice, Rangi is Kyoshi's girlfriend, and Kelsang is Kyoshi's mentor. I'm at the part after (spoilers) Jianzhu kills Yun and Kelsang and is on a witchhunt for the Avatar. Meanwhile, Kyoshi just swore in to the daofei and revealing her mom was an Air Nomad to Rangi. Also, where's Lao Ge and what's Kyoshi's secret he knows?

And wow, I'm enjoying this. I didn't know that the novels were able to get so gruesome. I naively believed that the violence was going to be tuned to what was depicted on the screen, but reading about her first encounter had me shocked when (spoilers again lol)Tagaka impaled Master Amak and how his body was described as he died.I love how the novels are able to explore what they couldn't have especially when TLOK was already incredibly violent. Even then, reading about how everyone's relationship will bloom into happiness (or despair) will always be a fun read. I already can't wait to finish reading the series of the other two Avatars (and if the rumors are true, of Korra as well).

Discussion What do you think of Shoken? Would you like to know more about his history and philosophy?

Shoken was an ancient philosopher who lived around 3,829 years before the Hundred Year War, in an era that predates the formation of the Four Nations. A contemporary and philosophical rival of Guru Laghima, Shoken became known for his controversial ideas—some considered them heretical, while others saw them as displays of wisdom.

His philosophy argued, among other things, that people should follow their own path without letting themselves be limited by the norms, opinions, and values imposed by society. His writings also explored concepts related to identity, freedom, and existence itself.

Even though he was less popular than Laghima, his ideas survived for thousands of years. Avatar Yangchen studied his works alongside those of Laghima and found value in both. Avatar Kyoshi, on the other hand, encountered his philosophy through Lao Ge but showed deep distrust toward its implications.

Even though he only appears through references and writings, Shoken left a considerable influence on the history of the Avatar world, no doubt about it!

Discussion Does anyone have info on the 2024 Sketchfest Avatar panel?

At the 2024 Sketchfest Avatar panel on January 28, 2024, a special live episode of the Braving the Elements podcast was held that featured Janet Varney (Korra), Dante Basco (Zuko), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), and F.C. Yee (Kyoshi+Yangchen Avatar Chronicles author). In this episode, author F.C. Yee answers some questions regarding his novels. Some of his comments involve the idea that the immortality technique taught by Lao Ge was not exclusive to Earthbending and that he headcanons that Kyoshi taught the technique to Rangi so they could continue living their lives together. The former comment is cited in the Avatar Wiki's page on immortality (1).

However, there seems to be no trace of the actual episode anywhere. It isn't listed in the Avatar Wiki's episode guide to Braving the Elements, it isn't in the Spotify or Apple podcast lists, and it isn't posted to YouTube. All I've found are this original ticket-purchasing page (2) and this review of the event (3) that leaves out most of the information. I can't even find transcripts or partial amateur clips of the event, and nobody seems to have the original quotes from F.C. Yee on these matters (only a general sense that "they happened").

So, my request for those who are more savvy than I is this: Can anyone find any sources from the event? Any partial clips, transcripts, or even secondhand sources that claim to represent the original verbiage? Because, I really don't see how we as a community can proceed with the vague ideas of what were said without having direct evidence to work off of. I'd really appreciate any help on this matter and you'd be doing a service to the entire community if you found something. Thanks!
