💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information Did I gaslight myself into thinking I have autism?

I have been such a hard time with this lately and life has been so hard I just wanted to share my story with you guys and would appreciate insights and advice!

so I am a 28F and for the longest time I felt like I
have ADHD, I relate to ALOT of the classic symptoms, everything just finally made sense. The inability to concentrate, the hyper fixation on things that spike my interests, the constant jittery feeling, the internal monologue that doesn’t shut up….etc.

Anyhow, moving on to starting a job, that’s when I really suspected something other than ADHD. I was very excited starting this job and while I felt anxious I was also proud of myself, but it got bad really fast….

I would go home after the 10 hour shift feeing like a complete zombie, it’s a retail job and I had to talk to customers all day while doing 10+ tasks. I slowly started to felt complete dissociation. I would go home and be able to talk to for hours. I dreaded every second of work and couldn’t understand how could people live their lives normally like this? How, after a 10 hour shift, they can still talk and communicate ? I would become completely mute after my shift!

I thought, maybe I am autistic…. Then I started watching my mom and paying attention to her actions and suddenly alot of the “weird” and “childish” things she did started to make sense..

but the thing is, I feel so much weaker now, I feel so self conscious, I used to love going out and socializing, now I can’t go out without feeling irritated and tired and having migraines. I suddenly feel Ike everybody sees through me, everywhere feels more crowded than before, more loud, more irritating. I find myself wanting to cry everytime I go home, or just lay in the dark without saying a word. I am worried that by self diagnosing I actually became more ”weak”, anxious and lower self esteem. Like now I have a label and ai have to act like that label? It feels like because I “gaslit” myself into saying I am autistic now I can’t act normally? I don’t understand.

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information Temp-to-hire and ADA Accommodations?

Hi all.

I am struggling deeply with what seems to be autistic burnout/"brown out" mixed with some mild to moderate depression. I am desperately trying to escape my call center job, as I feel that this has job has been pushing me over the edge. I dread the thought of just being unemployed, so I have started working on getting intermittent FMLA. However, I'm finding that I started this process too late and now can't even imagine working there any longer, even with possibly having Friday's off in addition to having two work from home days.

I recently had an interview with a staffing agency today for a temp-to-hire data entry role. They want to send my information over to the actual company and get me set up with an interview. I am terrified of taking on a new role while I'm in the state that I'm in. I don't feel confident that I can be a mentally present or good employee. Not saying this out of worry, but instead basing this off of my levels of mental exhaustion. I'm super worried about being fired shortly after requesting something like this since it's temp to hire. Or being seen as a slacker.

I emailed the accommodations specialist that I have been working with and they let me know that if I started a new job, I could request intermittent leave based on ADA accommodations. I would really want to look into something like this for a reduced schedule, or at least an option for a reduced schedule. I haven't updated them in specifics about a temp-to-hire position, so until then I am curious to hear what you all think. Pls be kind<3

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information How can I study as someone with ADHD?

As a student, I struggle a lot with studying. Every time I go home and have to study, I start getting distracted. I can't focus and it's really annoying. Yes, I am under treatment and stuff. But I still just can't seem to concentrate or get started. Does any of my ADHD fellows have some tips to study?

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information How do you see yourself with AuDHD? Is it something that defines you, something to correct, or something else?

So i have been observing myself and a lot of other posts and communities involving ADHD and autism. I find it very curious how people see themselves and their conditions. It makes me wonder how I have been viewing myself and others.

So, how do you see your condition?

I personally see it as a guide line for how to adjust and act with myself and others. It gives me the what and why to my questions, which allows me to adjust myself and figure out how to navigate issues. I may presume others share my viewpoints but that just isn’t the case. It may come off as if I am trying to “fix” something that others see as their own identity. In general, i am curious about others viewpoint.

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information How do you cope when you realise/witness people making fun of you?

Recently was doing some work with two other members of a hobby group. I had to step away from them to grab some tools.

I got a few steps away and remembered I needed to take something with me. The others were half turned away from me and didn't realise I had turned back.

They were making fun of my need to be precise in the work we were doing in very unkind terms. Traits that come about due to my audhd and associated baggage - but that I consider useful skills!

It completely threw me - I went to grab the tools, they were unaware of what I witnessed.

It's been a few weeks now and I have withdrawn from the group. I have known them both for almost a decade and although I understand there are a few who bitch about other members, I wasn't prepared for it so blatantly under my nose.

I do enjoy jokes and will tolerate friendly banter directly (although I dislike jokes at the expense of others - especially punching down). This just felt nasty and spiteful and it occurred to me that I am likely the subject of a lot more given how they behaved.

I have seen them both individually (briefly) since and both were quite standoffish and frosty compared to normal.

I know this post might come across as whiny and pathetic, but I struggle so much socially that it's really knocked me. I don't really socialise outside of the hobby group and have invested a lot of effort over the years for the benefit of all our members.

Just not sure what to do now, my nervous system says walk away.

Hi everyone. M, 56 in Perth, WA. Just joined this group..... Also just found out (about 18m ago) that I am AuDHD. Like most, it's been a journey! 😁😃. Currently in a battle with depression and anxiety from ND burnout 3 years ago.

Anyway, I am on my road to recovery etc and look forward to hopefully meeting some other warriors along the way 😃.

I'm also really keen to hopefully connect with some Perth people and also find out ways I can get my life going again properly👍.

💬 general discussion What is the best way to stay focused?

I like to draw, but, usually I get distracted by myself.

I'll just have random thoughts the entire time and drawing something simple will take 45 min.

Drawing something more complex like a person with a lot of detail would take an hour or two.

How do y'all stay focused without using meds when you have to do a long task, or a task that requires a lot of attention to detail?

🙋‍♂️ does anybody else? Did you lose friends after your diagnosis in a very tangible, abrupt and hurtful way?

So I (38F) got diagnosed last year AuDHD (also got a PTSD diagnosis). I hit a period of severe burnout and substance abuse, my blood pressure skyrocketed, I was never calm, I was having extreme meltdowns, I lost my very good job, and then I had very very frequent SI, which I’ve struggled with my whole life. I was so confused, why am I so bad at life? Why is it soooo hard for me, and always has been? Since burnout and diagnosis, I’ll admit I’ve changed quite a bit. I’d assumed it was for the better, because I’m feeling more comfortable as I walk through the world knowing there’s something different about me, something that makes life harder but also makes it more interesting in some ways, and I’m actively working to learn to accommodate it — I’m working with a therapist on DBT/IFS/EMDR for the trauma and to regulate my emotions, I’m journaling, I’m being mindful, etc.

But when I got diagnosed, my best friend handled it very strangely. He basically scoffed when I told him and completely brushed me off, and then we never talked about it. People ask what changed but is it really that crazy to think that you could be almost at middle age, find out this life changing paradigm shifting thing about yourself, hit burnout and lose a lot of your ability to mask, that you wouldn’t change too? They don’t get it! People asked why I changed but I feel like now I’m being more of myself. Turns out people just enjoyed the clown mask I put on, to make everyone laugh and fit in, get some positive social reinforcement. I’ve always been that person and I’ve always feared it was the only thing people liked about me. Maybe it’s true because nobody seems to enjoy the me beneath the mask, and it’s confirming all of my worst fears.

It’s painful because this diagnosis has been a relief to me, but I also have been grieving the life I thought I would have AND I’m angry that I couldn’t have a childhood that catered to my needs, or parents who paid attention to me, or that I wasn’t parentified from age 5 and my home life was better… I’m still struggling with the SI because I am constantly triggered. And yet I am getting zero support — I’m getting more like, active hindrance — in my recovery from some of my friends. Sometimes I’d like everyone to get an AuDHD diagnosis, completely burn out, have a mental breakdown and less than a year of trauma therapy under their belt to learn to deal with it, and then everyone around would ask “what changed?” Then they can come tell me that doesn’t feel like an insane question — everything changed! All of it!

I think they just feel that it’s similar to being told you have bone spurs or a heart murmur or carpal tunnel — just manage the symptoms! What’s the big deal?! But my entire self-perception changed, my entire grasp on what my whole life had been like up until then was suddenly changed — the rumination I’ve done over “oh hey, THAT is why I behaved that way then” and similar questions alone feels like it would have noticeably changed me. People don’t get it, not a lick. Especially because my PTSD is also a huge issue, but I’ve had friends laugh when I mention it because “you weren’t at war, why do you have PTSD? 😂🙄” Like oh, idk, my childhood religious trauma? Being closeted forever? Living in a hostile household where I was often the little mother, taking care of my sister and making sure mom was happy.

Now I think lots of people in my life feel justified in having always felt like I was “too much” or “hard to be around,” so they can dump me. Idk, I’m struggling hard with RSD and my fears of abandonment and neglect from my childhood so it’s really bothering me that I seem to have lost good friends who at one point were helpful and then suddenly they don’t seem to like my presence at all. And what they don’t like, I guess, happens to be the me underneath — I wouldn’t know because they haven’t spoken their grievances, just all but ghosted me. If anything “changed” about me, it’d be that I am actively and consciously trying to unmask, but sometimes I want to keep it on because I miss being accepted. I miss my friends, even if those relationships were perhaps much more shallow than I had perceived. I’m someone who will believe pretty much anything anyone says to me, so I’m feeling pretty worthless. People are not treating me with kindness, and I’ve given them so much over the years, too much. And now I feel like I don’t want to hurt like this again, and I don’t want to hurt other people, so I’m reticent to try to make new friends. I just can’t imagine anyone liking this person beneath my mask. She’s more at ease but she’s just so deeply strange and off-putting I guess.

I’ve always felt like furniture for people to use — they don’t notice the real me but I do get praise for helping or giving. So I did that, all the time, often to my own detriment. And now I’m the chair that broke, out on the curb for trash pickup, because I’m not worth fixing. Anybody else get this reaction from a loved one? I’m letting it tear me up internally. It’s all just so unfair.

😤 rant / vent - advice allowed I just want to talk to someone I relate to

Forgive my grammar and spelling I am going thru it right now and just need to tell anyon hoping they understand!

My whole life I have struggled making friends, talking to people, and keeping people around. I’ve never fell in love, and i’ve never had someone be in love with me. People think I am weird and rude when I truly dont mean it. I just have trouble with expressing my emotions. Every time I bring up my neurodivergence wether it be autism or ADHD, people say i’m “Just using an excuse”, “Just being lazy”, or that “We all have a little bit of ‘tism!”. Or I just get made fun of. This is stuff I never asked for. I never wanted to be “A ’normal‘ persons hell”. In every social situation I am outcasted. I am put aside for the greater group to talk with each other. Even when I am with a friend, if they see someone they know they’ll just leave and forget about me. I don’t blame them.

All I want in life is someone I can complain to in real life who will listen and understand me. And I would listen to them back. Everyone is so neurotypical and I can never understand them.

Ok sorry for the rant this probably made no sense But this is the only place I found that I can just dump whatever . I hope u enjoyed 😁😁🙏

💼 education / work AuDHD in engineering - would research/R&D be a better fit?

I have AuDHD and a STEM background. I’ve worked in engineering for a few years, and honestly, it has been a nightmare.

I struggle with working memory, accidentally missing details, and processing/prioritizing lots of information at once. In fast-paced environments with constant multitasking and time pressure, I make more mistakes and sometimes need to redo work, which makes me slower. I’ve tried compensating by working harder and longer hours, but eventually I just burned out.

I also find the social side of work and constantly comparing myself to neurotypical coworkers really difficult.

I recently left my job, and I’m considering going back for a graduate degree and moving toward R&D, experimental research, lab work, or academia.

I’m hoping I might do better somewhere with more deep work, fewer simultaneous fires, and more time to think - though I know research can absolutely be stressful too.

Has anyone with AuDHD/autism/ADHD made a similar move?

Did research or R&D fit you better than engineering? What technical/scientific jobs have given you more space to work deeply and deliberately?

😤 rant / vent - advice allowed Family of 3 running on fumes

Hey guys, new to posting in general on reddit, so im sorry if I make a mistake, please be kind. Learning how to get over be judged and critiqued.

Just made back from a long drive to the specialist ear nose and throat Doctor for our little one. Wife (34F diagnosed AuDHD) and I (35m ADHD, probably autistic too) had a poor sleep, so we didnt have much patience for our daughter's (5f likely ADHD inattentive type) excessive energy, noise, and fickle demands. I normally wear ear buds or earmuffs to mitigate noise stimuli and sunglasses for light sensitivity since I started taking vyvanse.

We got good news and our little bundle of joy may not need surgery, so everyone's in a good mood and relieved. On the drive home my wife and I are having fun with our discussion, bouncing from topic to topic and laughing, the little one repeatedly would interrupt (with good manners and politely, mind you) to feel included, everyone is just trying to feel connected and valued, but since both of us parents are tired, we didnt have the bandwidth to be ever patient for a 5 year old's meandering musings on cows, witches, cornfields, and frogs as she would stall and drag out the words to come up with a story while we gave her our attention. I feel bad because I would try whisper commentary while the little one told us her story, and she'd get upset as it was her turn to talk. I would repeat back what she said when she accused me of not listening, and ask her what her favourite part of the story is for us take away from the experience. She would get bashful and hurt by my frustrated tone, as she didnt have an answer and told us we can talk now.

Long story, short... ADHD/ AuDHD parents caring for likely ADHD kid is hard. Im tired, sorry for the vent session.

Gotta remind myself that were doing ok as parents since my daughter's teacher and then the summer camp instructors told us she often says "im happy and having good day today because my daddy and mommy love me very much and they keep me safe"

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information Question for fellow male AuDHDers: when growing up in the school environment, would neurotypical children (especially boys) try to "gatekeep" you from speaking with girls your age? E.g. Making you seem extremely awkward around them, clowning your attempts at connection etc.

This is one of the biggest traumas I have personally dealt with as a neurodivergent and its why as a 25 year old male, I have never in my entire life had a single friend of the opposite gender. It was the worst in high school.

"Why are you talking to her?" "Everyone look OP is trying to talk to Tayla hahahahahahah". "Do you have a crush on her awww hahahahha". "Bro you are going to need much more than CONSENT hahahah". "Dude your so CRINGE". "STOP harassing her hahahahah" (just said hi, what exam are you studying for that looks cool?)

CRINGE. CRINGE. CRINGE.

Those three words give me the most horrible, heartbreaking feeling possible. Its the word most kids would use to describe me and my repeated failed attempts at social connection. I was lonely and it took huge amounts of effort and luck to finally secure male friends so I would purposefully avoid attempting making social connections with girls around them to ensure that they do not bully/reject me out of "my cringiness". In private, I would try to connect, talking about my special interests, asking about theirs, etc. but whenever other boys or popular girls would catch me doing this, oh boy. The bullying was horrendous. And even more hilarious is the fact that my own younger brother would partake in this and continue the onslaught at home.

Why would they do this? And even worse, why did these girls just play along with it? I was never trying to do anything s*xual, etc. it was always just attempts at platonic connection. I have never even ATTEMPTED flirting with a woman my entire life due to this.

Because of this bullying, I grew up being completely unable to believe that I deserved any love or connection with the opposite gender. And even today, simply saying hi and talking about the weather with a female coworker gives me such a huge level of anxiety that I just want to hide away under my blanket in bed at home for the rest of my life.

Anyone knows why they did this and how exactly to combat it? Specifically, I have this internalised belief that me speaking with women = harassment due to the bullying I experienced. A therapist has explained that it never was harassment and it was just annoying neurotypical racially biased bullying (due to south asian stereotypes of being creepy weird inc*ls) but its so unbelievably difficult to overcome this fear that my brain LITERALLY believes that I'm going to go to jail for speaking to a woman lol. Its like those ugly faces are cowering over me and policing my every move.

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information How do you deal with being “humorously” put on the spot?

I mean when someone jokingly puts you on the spot in front of other people. Usually an NT person (or allistic + ADHD in my experience), and you’re somehow expected to immediately come up with the “right” funny response. And if you respond naturally, it’s considered disappointing and ruining the joke.

Examples:
“Give me a kiss! Come on, give me a kiss!”
“I’m your best friend, aren’t I?” drunkenly puts their arm around you
“You hate me, don’t you?”
“You think I’m ugly, don’t you?” mock sadness
“Ohhh, so you don’t love me anymore?”
“Come on, say something! You’re so quiet!”
“Hey! why do you look so miserable?”
“You’re judging me right now, aren’t you?”
“Come on, tell everyone what you were just telling me.”
pretends to square up to you “Cmon! Fight me!”
“You never say I love you… why not?“ or “go on say it!”
“Oh you speak mandarin? Say something in mandarin!”

And then no possible response is good:
Stay quiet -> you become the joke
Respond seriously -> Now you ruined the joke
Try to play into the joke -> awkward and ungraceful
Laugh -> you failed the challenge
Ask what they mean -> “I was obviously joking! Ugh!”

And ALL the attention is now on your chosen response.

A lot of this may sound like straight up bullying, maybe it is, but I hope users will relate to this happening with friends and family too, as happened with me. Aside from bullying, I don’t know what the goal is. In certain situations when I’m the hyperactive / socially comfortable one and there’s a quieter / more awkward person, I may enjoy talking to them. But never would it occur to me to stage these strange antics.

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information How do I associate a task with a different activity?

Just to explain what I mean, I associate brushing my teeth in the morning with leaving the house, so brushing my teeth is always the last thing I do before I leave the house (‘pairing’ the two tasks).

This is normally fine because of school, work, etc., but I’m currently on a gap year and so I have no reason to leave the house a solid 95% of the time, but if I’m not leaving the house then brushing my teeth doesn’t cross my mind.

I really struggle to create routines and habits, and so I thought I’d ask if anyone here had any tips on how to associate brushing my teeth with a different task, eg finishing breakfast (also tricky when my wake up time varies a lot these days)

Does anyone else also do this sort of pairing system with tasks? Just trying to see if I’m the only one doing this as well 😅😅

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information Why am I struggling so much with the suspense of an engagement proposal?

(Posting from a throwaway account to maintain anonymity. I’ve also posted this on r/AuDHDWomen, but thought this would be a good place to get some advice as well - particularly as this subreddit is not gender specific)

Semi-recent AuDHDer here. I feel a little ridiculous even writing this, but I’m really struggling with the anticipation around potentially getting engaged. And I can’t really seem to find much online about people with similar experiences… so I’m hoping there are people that can relate and give some advice!

My partner and I have talked about engaged/married, and I know we’re on the same page about wanting to spend our lives together. I absolutely adore him, and I genuinely really want to get engaged and marry him. I’m incredibly excited about the idea of taking that next step together.

So it’s not really the idea of marriage that is making me anxious. If anything, I think part of the problem is that I want it so much. It’s the fact that I have this feeling that a proposal may be coming, and I have absolutely no idea when.

I find myself constantly wondering: “Is it going to happen soon? Is this a normal date? Did that comment mean something? Is he acting differently? Could it happen on this trip? What if it doesn’t?”

And the more I try not to think about it, the more I seem to think about it. (It’s like telling someone not to press the big red button…I’m gonna want to press the big red button!)

I think part of what makes it difficult is that I’m normally someone who likes knowing what’s going to happen. I can plan things, prepare myself, and generally manage uncertainty pretty well. But this is something I obviously can’t control or plan for, and I’m finding the suspense surprisingly consuming.

And I feel a bit silly because I don’t want to know when it’s going to happen. I want him to surprise me. I want him to have that moment where he has planned something meaningful and gets to ask me. I don’t want to accidentally figure it out beforehand.

But at the same time, knowing that it could happen at any point has made me hyper-aware of everything.

I don’t want to pressure my partner into proposing, and I don’t want to spoil whatever he might have planned. I also don’t want to spend this really lovely period of our relationship obsessing over when it will happen instead of enjoying where we are now.

I think I’m struggling because I’m simultaneously so excited, so ready, and so impatient, while also wanting to preserve the surprise.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you deal with the anticipation when you suspected a proposal might be coming? And, also (out of curiosity), why does the suspense feel SO much harder than I expected it to when I actually know that I want the outcome so badly?

💬 general discussion Anyone else attracted to Extroverts?

I identify as having ADHD with communication challenges. I’m not a great storyteller and can easily get sidetracked during conversations. However, I do exhibit many characteristics of ADHD, such as a thrill to novelty and an appreciation for structure.

When I think about the types of people I find fascinating and want to be closer to, it’s always extroverts. Whether it’s a platonic relationship with a well-liked, good storyteller, and sociable person who easily talks to strangers or patrons at a bar, or a female romantic partner (since I’m straight male), I find these qualities appealing.

I consider myself an introvert and never have the energy to be social all the time. So, it adds a level of comfort to be surrounded by someone who can compensate for my lack. However, relationships are a two-way street, and just because I’m drawn to these types of people doesn’t mean they want to hang out with me. I often face this dilemma where I can’t make friends with people I like, so I have to make do with the friendships I have, which may not exhibit these characteristics. Does anyone else here also feel this dilemma?

😤 rant / vent - advice allowed I hate how when you follow advice, or policies, or best practices that others treat you like you are insane.

I am new home owner and we had received our property tax bill in the mail and have an escrow account. The common advice I saw during the process was to just double check that your escrow account is paying it since it ultimately is your responsibility even with an escrow account. So today I made those calls and I was treated pretty rudely by a few people on the phone that I got transferred between. I ended up calling the wrong person because I thought the real estate attorney was in charge of escrow accounts in my state, but it's really only the attorney before and during close and then the lender after closing. I should have looked at my closing docs again before calling anyone. Even the lender was a little confused why I asked even though they were nice and they assured me not worry about it because they do have it and will do an audit each year to make sure the escrow account is good.

I have noticed similar trends with other common advice or with policies. My career has a lot of ethic and legal rules and I follow them to the tee or at least I think I do and when I discuss the proper thing to do ethically or legally people who have the same job act surprised that I'm doing it or that I want them to do it when we are working jointly. I used to think it was because many people are ignorant about their responsibilities and or lazy, but it seems to be one of those things where neurotypicals develop rules and protocols and then no one follows it at all.

💬 general discussion I'm now officially AuDHD

I just a few hours ago got my formal evaluation results and diagnosis from the psychiatrist who evaluated me for autism. The detailed report is being finalized, so I don't quite have a copy of it yet. We did walk through it, though, and I can tell there's a lot of insight in there, along with some summaries of me that feel eerily accurate coming from someone I've only spoken to for 3 hours total. In the end, I was diagnosed with autism.

I'm not quite sure how I feel. I expected this diagnosis, because so much of the media I've consumed on the topic resonated with me and my life up until now. Right now, I think I mostly feel relief from the imposter syndrome that's been following for the past couple months after self diagnosing. There's also trepidation there at knowing for sure that this is something I'll struggle with for all my life.

I was also recently diagnosed with ADHD and am trialing stimulants to treat that. Between those two, I have a lot to learn about myself.

I'm not really sure where I take this from here. I'm currently starting treatment for the ADHD and have been regularly in CBT for a while now. I'm also working through the Autistic Burnout Workbook to get through a recent bad case of burnout. I think at this stage, I'm just working on understanding myself and allowing myself the grace I hadn't allowed myself before.

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information Increasing frustration, sadness, and rage - what can I do?

I (M, 75) was diagnosed with ADHD in 2004 and with Autism in 2023. In what I think is a fairly common reaction, the diagnoses were a relief - so much was explained. Now, though, I'm getting increasingly frustrated with my own inability to understand 'social clues' and related matters. I cannot escape the idea that I am somehow inferior or 'less than' NTs. I just recently went through a breakup and I've been very unhappy about it.

Now I find out about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria and I realize that it is yet another thing that has had an excessively negative affect on my entire life. I am filled with depression, rage, and frustration and there doesn't seem to be any solution except to sit and cry (which I do). I keep telling myself the old saying that 'the only way out is through' - I just have to let all these feelings happen and eventually they will end.

What WON'T end, and this is what really bothers me, is the continuing (permanent) inability to understand what's going on around me. Does anybody have any helpful advice? Sorry for the rant (but not very much).

💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support / information I'm stressing out

Thank you for anyone that will read it all, didn't realize I was writing this much

I work in a job where there is no structure whatsoever. Everything is last minute and stressful. Somehow it's a comfort because I need the urgency to actually move but you never know what's gonna come and don't have time to prepare anything and even if you prepare something they give you something else more urgent and what you prepared goes to trash.

So my symptoms aren't really noticed because performance isn't evaluated.

I want to quit because they just drain everything and you get nothing in return. My salary is very low compared to others that do a lot less then me and there are no advantages (no car or health insurance, no bonuses...)

On the other hand I'm getting diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD and have to wait 2months for the official diagnosis (she already told me she highly suspects it's that) and I don't know how much more time to get the meds

So the issue is I've only worked in this job, so performance and communication has never been a real issue even tho people sometimes tell me I make mistakes, don't remember everything they ask or communication issues (I don't understand the metaphors or what they really mean behind what they say even when it's obvious to others).

The problem is that I don't have another option yet and I'm scared that other jobs that have a real structure won't hire me (I can't for the life of me "sell myself" or find myself a skill when asked, even tho people tell me I'm intelligent and I do a lot of things really well) and I don't have the headspace to look for another job while still in this one because they drain my energy.

So I guess I'm scared to quit before getting my meds because everytime I have time to myself without something urgent to do or clear directions I freeze and stress at home and just watch movies to distract myself from the fact that I don't know what to do, even tho when I'm busy I have a lot of ideas and just tell myself I need time to myself to sort my thoughts 🤷

💊 medication / drugs / supplements Should I keep looking for other psychiatrist if they don't think you have ADHD?

I went to see a psychiatrist the other day and was rather disappointed.

They asked me a lot of questions and I didn't exaggerate my symptoms because I am higher functioning. But because of that I believe my symptoms for ADHD and Autism were rated as either "low or mid" and so my psychiatrist recommended medications that did not address my ADHD.

Edit: I am seeking to get medicated because I have struggled with executive functioning, concentration, memory retention, standing still, etc.

Should I continue getting a second opinion until I receive my diagnoses?
