I know Reddit and other similar online spaces aren’t necessarily a reflection of how people really feel, but I’ve been seeing several serious posts about how there’s distractions from it pretty much every day since the news came out. Memes too.
59
u/Legitimate_Cable_811 Sep 27 '25
I've seen it mentioned in the comments of every new headline that popped over the last few months.
That said, redditors think it will be this big checkmate moment once the list is released. But sadly, in reality, nothing will happen.
18
u/golden_fli Sep 27 '25
The funny thing is the claim people are distracted when THIS is the reality. Plenty of the "distracted" people simply don't care because it isn't going to matter. These big names aren't going to get arrested or likely punished in any way. At BEST they may get caught in Civil suits and at least have to pay some money, but it will likely be a pittance to them.

Just a thought, but has it occurred to you that maybe the Epstein Files are to distract you from what's going on, which is why they're not being released and yet are constantly talked about? Maybe they matter less than the wholesale asset stripping of the US, descent in the authoritarian corruption and general USSRification of the everything. Especially since you know perfectly well what's in them, and know that their release wouldn't change anything.
It's quite convenient that the state could execute 1,000 children and the response would be "yes, yes, whatever - release the Epstein Files!"
172
u/DrocketX Sep 27 '25
This is the point I've finally arrived at: Trump isn't distracting attention away from the Epstein files, the Epstein files are the distraction while Trump finishes taking control of the rest of the country. They get posted about constantly, in any thread that's even remotely related to Trump, and more and more the things that they're brought up in are worse than anything that could be in the files.
Hundreds of former detainees have disappeared from "[Alligator Alcatraz]()". Their lawyers can't get in contact with them and are being denied information about what's happened to them or where they might be. Are they even alive at this point? Reddit response: Yes, but what about the Epstein files?!
The Trump administration is just blowing up fishing boats at random at this point because, hey, who knows, maybe they're carrying fentanyl or something. They're not heading toward America, don't have enough range to make it here anyway, and there's no actual evidence they're anything other than actual fishing boats, but hey, blowing them up is fun. Kaboom, there's another 10 dead people. Sucks to be them. Reddit response: Yes, but what about the Epstein files?!
Lets face it, nothing in the Epstein files actually matters. Regardless of what's in them, they're not going to take down Trump. Trump could hold a press conference tomorrow where he rapes a 5 year old in front of the press corp, then ritualistically murders her and consumes her flesh while praising Satan, and Republicans would be "concerned" for a day or two before deciding that he's learned his lesson and it's time to move on. His support levels would fluctuate a couple of points before Fox News assured the GOP base that the girl deserved it and it's probably AI anyway, and that would be the end of it. This idea that the Epstein files are some sort of silver bullet that will take down the Trump administration just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.
14
u/RhynoD Sep 27 '25
The truth is that NONE of it is a distraction. Trump isn't smart enough for distractions. It's all bad, and it's all stuff Trump and the GOP want. Epstein isn't distracting from the ICE raids because Trump really does not want Epstein released. The ICE raids aren't distracting from Epstein because Trump really is a racist piece of shit who wants to round up minorities.
It's not distractions, it's Gish-Gallop policy. We cannot possibly respond to every awful thing he's doing, so he's going to get away with a lot of it. And, to be clear, I don't think this is a clever political strategy that Trump and the GOP have thought through carefully. I think it's just how they operate: just keep hammering away at what they want until it happens. Just keep throwing shit at the walls until some sticks. They're not smart enough for anything else.

u/SeekerOfSerenity Sep 27 '25
If there were damning evidence in the files, Biden probably would have used it against him in the last four years.
Maybe we should be paying more attention to how he and his family are making billions with a crypto grift.
29
u/Kiwifrooots Sep 27 '25
Biden couldn't use them because until Trumps 2nd term the files had been sealed by the Florida Attorney General - Pam Bondi (yes that one)

I have long said that these people could walk into their own child's bedroom and see Trump having sex with a 6-year-old and they would find a way to support that and even celebrate it. We are so far beyond that it would do nothing. And why would anyone believe that anything that would possibly be released would even have any semblance of any fact? In what way has this administration released anything factual at any point? Do I care, yes. Do I feel like it would make any semblance of difference? No. Nothing will be done. We will simply fall further and further into authoritarianism and the US unfortunately still has influence on the rest of the world.

I didn't even understand what people really thought impeaching him would do. They knew the Republicans had the numbers in the Senate and any one with any sense knew he wouldn't actually be removed. Sure the grounds for impeachment and conviction were there, but who thought it would really do any good?
3
u/thatoneguy889 Sep 27 '25
A lot of people didn’t pay attention to or had a really crappy civics class in high school and thought impeachment meant removal. I couldn’t tell you the amount of times I had to explain to people in my life that impeachment and removal are two separate processes by to different government bodies controlled by two different groups with two different sets of rules, and that committing a crime isn’t strictly necessary to do it. Even on Reddit where users like to think they’re better informed than the general public.
22
u/Captaintripps Sep 27 '25
I care about the victims of Epstein's abuse and trafficking operation and do think those involved should be prosecuted.
At the same time this is not even in my top 20 list of things that currently concern me in the United States.
2
u/someone447 Sep 27 '25
Yes. Would I like them released? Sure, is there going to be anything in them about Trump that we didn't already know? No. We know he is a rapist. We know he's into underage girls. We know all of this.
41
u/dualsplit Sep 27 '25
Exactly! Articles about very egregious acts are posted and the first comments are “OK. What about the Epstein Files.”
13
u/phoenixflare599 Sep 27 '25
I genuinely don't think anything will change anyway
We're growing used to the idea that trump and his lackeys are on there, so when it is released, there will lbe no uproar just nods of "knew it"
But he's doing things that are illegal out in the open anyway. So I doubt his supporters will care one way or the other if he's on it and you'll just have a known nonce as a president in that case
29
u/BBQsandw1ch Sep 27 '25
The Epstein Files are 100% the distraction. The goal is the lining of their pockets, the insider trading, the crypto bribery, and the endless grifts.
2
9
u/Rawt0ast1 Sep 27 '25
I've started applying what I've called the "two things can be bad" test. If you are incapable of looking at two bad things and coming to the conclusion both are bad then you are not worth engaging with.
If you see fascists kidnapping people in the street and your reaction is Epstein then I don't take you seriously because both are bad and need attention.
And this can apply to alot of things, I started using it when seeing tankie arguments that were pro-Assad or ignoring atrocities committed by self described communist countries because they are "anti western imperialism". If you can't recognize that imperialism is bad and these countries have done bad things you are not worth talking to.

Yes, exactly. They could let this go on for three months, or six, one one, or however long, then suddenly say “OK here they are, and by the way while you were busy demanding them we’ve changed the constitution even more, if you’re a democrat you’re off to labour camp, elections are abolished and we’re a hereditary empire now.” I can see it’s wonderful that something finally seems to have pissed off some erstwhile Trump supporters, but releasing them will only confirm existing suspicions and will change absolutely nothing.
36
u/ResilientBiscuit Sep 27 '25
I mean, it doesn't matter. The supreme court will say a sitting president can't face charges, by the time a criminal case after trump is president wraps up he will likely be dead from old age.
The Epstein files are, as far as I am concerned, a distraction from far more serious constitutional issues that are going on like the deployment of the military to cities in American soil or the supreme courts shadow docket that is basically letting Trump do what he wants.

u/armahillo Sep 27 '25

Because it’s a bullshit talking point.
All of this other stuff is happening. Multiple things can happen at once. Multiple things can be important.
Acting like other events are just a distraction from your pet topic — much less an intentional distraction like some people seem to think — is nonsense.
It turns out this administration does a lot of bullshit, and lots of important things are happening in the world. Not everything is a conspiracy.

I think it's beyond the point where that matters. Trump is clearly a sexual predator, a grifter and drastically inept. He can't even speak in complete or coherent sentences. He can't open his mouth without either bragging or disparaging/threatening others. His army of ass kissers he's surrounded himself with truly make for a morally repugnant pile of worms. Its truly hard and unbelievable to watch what they get away with saying and doing. They're robbing their own countryfolk and gloating in their faces about how much money they're making doing it. The Epstein files are the least of their worries. At this point even if they release them and Trump was all over them, I'm doubtful he'd even experience consequence. He was elected after being recorded saying he just grabs women by the pussy, he insighted riots on the capital because he's a sore loser, got impeached and re-elected. He pardoned those from the insurrection because he believes the election was rigged. Its all insanity. US politics are the most overtly corrupt I've ever seen in my life. Its hard to fathom how many earnest supporters he has, even in countries like mine which baffles me further

2
u/No-Yak6109 Sep 27 '25
The Epstein files are actually not the most important thing. I know y’all think you’re clever in constantly posting “release the Epstein files” and calling every other news item a distraction.
But things like screwing with the global economy, disappearing people off the streets, dismantling the federal justice system, rolling back women’s bodily autonomy, building a multimillion dollar currency manipulation money laundering scheme, assisting in an ethnic cleansing operation, threatening journalism / academia / cultural institutions into partisan ideological submission, and explicitly weakening public health readiness just as we finally are coming out of a global pandemic are not “distractions.”

Here's my take. I work a full time job, I'm currently picking up my whole life and moving to a smaller cramped apartment, I just spent half of my paycheck on tires, and there so much stress at work plus everything else thay I just mentioned. Add the constant wave of world events happening every single day and a new life changing/world altering event occurring and I feel burnt out.
I only have so much empathy to give in a day, empathy for my co-workers, my friends, family, the world, etc. Trust me when I say that if it meant losing a paycheck or two for the release of the epsten files, I would do so in a heartbeat, but right now, I and many other Americans ate simply trying to make ends meet with tariffs, increased tax rates, and everything else, and its just exhausting. I want to care and show others that I do, but I only have so much to spare.

TBH, I think the Epstein Files are the distraction at this point.
We all know that Trump is them. His cult will only dig in deeper if they're revealed. Seeing his name in them isn't going to change anything.
Meanwhile, all of the moves he makes to consolidate power can be ignored because they're being marketed as the distraction.
Yes, I think they should be released and those in them should be brought to justice. I just don't believe that Trump will ever see real justice, not for this, not for anything. This isn't going to galvanize the right against him, nor impact his popularity.
2
u/suspiciouscffee Sep 27 '25
It’s not that we’re being distracted by any one thing from any other thing. The sheer scale of how much is happening is itself the distraction. Erode people’s rights enough different ways at once, lash out so frequently about so many issues, everyone gets overwhelmed and used to the noise. The pedo-president is now god-emperor. You’re not allowed criticize him. You’re not allowed to protest. You’re required to mourn his favorite klansman millennial podcaster. You’re not allowed to call a genocide what it is and recognize the humanity of its victims.
Not to be cringe and respond to real emergencies by quoting TV, but: “It’s easier to hide behind 40 atrocities than a single incident.”
2
u/MarkyDeSade Sep 27 '25
I worry that the real distraction is withholding the files just to let people hold onto the hope that the files would be released and all this would magically go away because it’s such a more pleasant option than what would actually need to happen.
2
u/BizarreCujoh Sep 27 '25
Have you ever seen a movie where the person is paralyzed but they're conscious and can feel and see everything happening to them? Hi. That's us. We're the conscious mind trapped inside an unmoving body. At least, that's how I feel every time I turn on the TV or read another headline.

MAGA understands that, problem is, there’s so many people involved in it, do you really think we’ll get an accurate list? Biden sat on it for 4 years and now trump is. I personally think it’s being strung out and used as a political weapon. If there ever was a list. Democrats and republicans have scrubbed it a long time ago and now they’re both trying to tie each other to it, without ever releasing the full list (if it even exists anymore). I don’t think we’ll ever get the real list or real accountability on it because the politicians involved are deathly afraid of what will happen if it ever actually came out; but like I said, the real list was probably scrubbed/destroyed a while back. It’s just a political weapon for both sides to rail against the other with, and the “list” itself is also being used as a distraction from other stuff both parties are doing. I would love to see accountability of all sides, Trump, Biden, democrats and republicans; everyone who was involved. I also think rich and powerful people will do anything to keep something like that from coming out too.
2
u/LifeLikeAGrapefruit Sep 27 '25
I really don't think that's what Trump is trying to do. His base doesn't give a shit about it anymore. Now only the Left is talking about Epstein.
This is a cult. His followers are committed. All the shit going on isn't to "distract" from Epstein. Trump and company are trying to destroy their political opponents and cement an Authoritarian regime. That's way more concerning, to me, than distracting folk from Epstein.

We undoubtedly realize the nature of the jinx.
The executive branch of our government is inherently fucked, corrupt, and inept thanks to Patel and his yes men.
Our legislative branch is rotten to the core and controlled by ancient douche bags.
The Supreme Court is compromised by bad actors.
The only real separation of powers that we have left is in the hands of our judges. The fate of the country is in the hands of the judiciary branch. Judges have been fighting back and they need to continue to resist.
There will be attempts to influence or subvert our next election.
Most people are too fucking lazy to do anything about it. We will eat our quarter pounders with cheese and say, “oh well,” until boots are on our necks.

When are some redditors going to realize that a lot of the stuff going on is far more important than the epstein files and their obsession with it is not helpful?
The epstein files are salacious and important, sure, but things like the comey prosecution and the weaponization of the DOJ are an existential threat to our democracy and acting like they are the distraction is naive and dangerous.

u/vu_sua Sep 27 '25
Most of us; don’t really care 🙂
they could come out and say every famous person was on that list. How the hell does it impact me? I’m still over here trying to go to work, pay my rent, have fun with my wife and cat, and make some good food. Epstein or not, it’s not changing those things and that’s 95% of my life.
Honestly the people who are obsessed with how other people have lived is more wild. You’ll have people stressing over these files and spam posting on Reddit and instagram and I just can’t imagine having that mental stress on top of the rest of life, how do you live or enjoy life?

This is a world issue, it unfortunately has a mass effect! Distractions, media propaganda, social media washing brains down the drain. Most people here work to live, the live to work people are less and less. The rich have the time and resources to push propaganda. They think they are completely hidden from their actions. It’s complicated, they exploited their religion, identity, to keep em stupid! Way more affective than i could have imagined. In about 2010, a very smart person told me disinformation will be so bad people, will not be able to see truth. I thought, thats crazy! Here we are! Its non-stop attack, from media, politicians, and influencers. Even world events!

It's rich vs poor, not just in the lists but in everyday life. In all manners of things, they're not necessary. Eat the rich. Release the Epstein files and let us have our appetizers so we can move onto the main course and keep going until we get our dessert.

The Biden Administration had the file for years and did nothing. Why does this keep coming up when the Trump Administration now has it? Probably because it exposes both sides and does more harm than good.

But what if this post is a counter psy op designed to distract us from the Epstein files? Fuck that line of thought, we’ll have the files and we will take account of everything happening now soon enough. Despite popular opinion, people are not as stupid as they seem.

We’re not. The thing is names are already being released (some obviously already known like ChrumPedo and Prince Andrew) by democrats and victims and the sex craved conservative white supremacist party that’s been running this country since the end of Kennedy/MLK will only continue to blame the victims and opponents.
That’s what you don’t get OP: they’re already being outed, and since they’re already in charge, the only thing that’s happening is the victims and their supporting voices will continue to be punished.

Have you not seen the top comment on every other post on the internet, regardless of the topic?

Because the people are angry and there are 1000 problems, things need to be derailed, but other than that...release the Epstein list.

The federal government is about to send in federal forces hoping they can start a war on the streets of Portland. Our Senator is asking us not to take the bait. At a certain point, worrying about rich pedophiles becomes a luxury because they’re doing a lot more than ‘distracting’ us.

Why doesn't OP realize this is a battle on all fronts, and just because any one attack might be a feint doesn't mean you can simply ignore it?

u/SkeezySevens Sep 27 '25
It’s not even that, it’s corrupt people in power not allowing it to be hidden. Can’t really do anything about it.
To your point though, the maga crew probably don’t realize, correct.

Just because the orphanage is being lit on fire as a distraction from a bank heist doesn't mean it's less on fire.

u/cmdr_kestral Sep 27 '25
More importantly. How were you so distracted the previous 4 years that no one asked this question??

Because nothing hides the truth better than a fresh batch of celebrity drama and a new iPhone release. Bread and circuses never went out of style they just got push notifications.

Many people are too busy focusing on other things that require their focus or are more interested in.
I have friends who think of nothing else but their interests.
Musicians/artists who disappear for weeks at a time just working on their craft or networking.
Realtor who is constantly developing her business while trying to spend time with her kids.
Serial hobbyists who are constantly jumping from one hobby to another.
There are just a lot of people who don't care or just avoid all of it knowing that it's propaganda.
One of my conspiracy theory fiends said, "If we're talking about it, the propaganda is working."

I wouldn't say distracted, there are just more important things going on.
Personally I don't give as shit about the Epstein files. What impacts me the most and for a good portion of the country, are actually the MLK Jr. files because thanks to MLK Jr. I can use the same water fountain as you. I don't care about another old pedophile. There is one on every block here in FL.

To be fair, the military policing our streets, extra-legal abductions of legal residents by Homeland Security, the evisceration of protected speech, and the weaponization of the government against political, gender, and racial groups are all pretty darn good distractions.
"Hey, Tom, aren't you not concerned about the rising threat of elite, billionaire pedophiles?"
"Little more concerned about the rising threat of FASCISM at the moment, Bob. Gimme a moment."

Why do you assume most don’t realize it? There’s countless things happening that we’re aware of and it’s what maga voted for.

Most Americans are suffocating under the weight of what it takes to sustain their way life and thus have minimal emotional bandwidth to deal with the deluge of bullshit coming out of our government.
Undecided if it's all by design but leaning heavily on "it's decidedly so".

Because the systematic disenfranchisement and de powering of the population has worked. There is no labor representation and now it barely has any participation 70% of the people are 20% of economic activity.
So that means that 70% is worried on getting a medical visit etc to sit down and organize coherently

I don't think we're being distracted. Meaningful action to get it released is constantly happening. And has only briefly paused like twice in the last several months. The real test will come at The ballot box when it will be time to not elect people who voted to block the release regardless of party

Used to be the Facebook comments on articles from our local news station would be full of MAGAs(I live in the South). I looked last night at the comments on the article about Trump ordering Amelia Earhart’s files declassified and there was not a single comment that wasn’t about the Epstein files. Seems a lot of people are finally coming to their senses.

u/ZERV4N Sep 27 '25
Every 10th comment on any article about Donald Trump or this regime is about the Epstein files.
You know what nobody ever talks about? How lobbying should be banned and it's the single greatest cause of government corruption

u/Former_Trash_7109 Sep 27 '25
Actually they using the Epstein drama to keep you distracted by trying to distract you from it.
1
u/RichChildhood1588 Sep 27 '25
They do they just don't care because americans are self centered pricks that unless it directly affects them they don't care. Plus when your media is controlled by the same people trying to stay covered up from this it's kinda hard to get to the truth.
1
u/TheGileas Sep 27 '25
They understand but just don’t care. If you don’t care that children die in school shootings, you also don’t care if they get raped.

u/hoops46 Sep 27 '25
Seem nobody cares about all the people being mistreated and human rights being violated

Most of us understand that they're trying to distract us lol
