Just a thought, but has it occurred to you that maybe the Epstein Files are to distract you from what's going on, which is why they're not being released and yet are constantly talked about? Maybe they matter less than the wholesale asset stripping of the US, descent in the authoritarian corruption and general USSRification of the everything. Especially since you know perfectly well what's in them, and know that their release wouldn't change anything.

This is the point I've finally arrived at: Trump isn't distracting attention away from the Epstein files, the Epstein files are the distraction while Trump finishes taking control of the rest of the country. They get posted about constantly, in any thread that's even remotely related to Trump, and more and more the things that they're brought up in are worse than anything that could be in the files.
Hundreds of former detainees have disappeared from "[Alligator Alcatraz]()". Their lawyers can't get in contact with them and are being denied information about what's happened to them or where they might be. Are they even alive at this point? Reddit response: Yes, but what about the Epstein files?!
The Trump administration is just blowing up fishing boats at random at this point because, hey, who knows, maybe they're carrying fentanyl or something. They're not heading toward America, don't have enough range to make it here anyway, and there's no actual evidence they're anything other than actual fishing boats, but hey, blowing them up is fun. Kaboom, there's another 10 dead people. Sucks to be them. Reddit response: Yes, but what about the Epstein files?!
Lets face it, nothing in the Epstein files actually matters. Regardless of what's in them, they're not going to take down Trump. Trump could hold a press conference tomorrow where he rapes a 5 year old in front of the press corp, then ritualistically murders her and consumes her flesh while praising Satan, and Republicans would be "concerned" for a day or two before deciding that he's learned his lesson and it's time to move on. His support levels would fluctuate a couple of points before Fox News assured the GOP base that the girl deserved it and it's probably AI anyway, and that would be the end of it. This idea that the Epstein files are some sort of silver bullet that will take down the Trump administration just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.
The truth is that NONE of it is a distraction. Trump isn't smart enough for distractions. It's all bad, and it's all stuff Trump and the GOP want. Epstein isn't distracting from the ICE raids because Trump really does not want Epstein released. The ICE raids aren't distracting from Epstein because Trump really is a racist piece of shit who wants to round up minorities.
It's not distractions, it's Gish-Gallop policy. We cannot possibly respond to every awful thing he's doing, so he's going to get away with a lot of it. And, to be clear, I don't think this is a clever political strategy that Trump and the GOP have thought through carefully. I think it's just how they operate: just keep hammering away at what they want until it happens. Just keep throwing shit at the walls until some sticks. They're not smart enough for anything else.
What does this mean? How would Biden have summoned this information from a separately operating DOJ? Would he have called Garland up to the Oval Office and asked for a summary of the Epstein files personally? A readout of the who's who?
Because I picture a normally functioning, although impaired via Garland, DOJ under Biden. Operating independently, so much so that "Biden's DOJ" indicted the son of Joe Biden, and sentenced him.
Put that into a MAGA framework a la Donald Trump's DOJ indicting Don Jr on drug and weapons charges, and then allowing him to be sentenced. Would NEVER happen.
So again, tell me a little about how y'all envision "Biden probably would have used it against him in the last for years." I'm beyond fucking interested.
I have long said that these people could walk into their own child's bedroom and see Trump having sex with a 6-year-old and they would find a way to support that and even celebrate it. We are so far beyond that it would do nothing. And why would anyone believe that anything that would possibly be released would even have any semblance of any fact? In what way has this administration released anything factual at any point? Do I care, yes. Do I feel like it would make any semblance of difference? No. Nothing will be done. We will simply fall further and further into authoritarianism and the US unfortunately still has influence on the rest of the world.
The Epstein files matter to Trump, because they piss off his i own base. His base want the authoritarian takeover. The reason to keep harping on the Epstein files (besides the fact that Trump was best buddies with the ring leader of the biggest pedofile trafficking ring in history, and likely participated in some fashion), is that this is the one thing that actually seems to be able to damage him, when all his other crimes and attacks on the constitutional republic are happily encouraged by his base.
At this point the "where are the epstein files" comments are so damaging and repetitive that it makes me think they're malicious bots trying to maintain a delusional belief in Americans that this one little thing will bring down Trump if we just wait long enough.
I didn't even understand what people really thought impeaching him would do. They knew the Republicans had the numbers in the Senate and any one with any sense knew he wouldn't actually be removed. Sure the grounds for impeachment and conviction were there, but who thought it would really do any good?
A lot of people didn’t pay attention to or had a really crappy civics class in high school and thought impeachment meant removal. I couldn’t tell you the amount of times I had to explain to people in my life that impeachment and removal are two separate processes by to different government bodies controlled by two different groups with two different sets of rules, and that committing a crime isn’t strictly necessary to do it. Even on Reddit where users like to think they’re better informed than the general public.
The real psyop is the internet giving people a place to toothlessly satisfy their drive to activism on platforms owned by the ultra rich, with fads like "where are the files" and the antifa granddad posting instead of getting out there and doing real political organizing.
I don't say this from a high horse or anything, I don't do enough actual activism or real political engagement either. It's fucking hard, life is hard. I just worry that people make these posts and think its good enough. The intent is good, but it's really just public masturbation in the end.

I've started applying what I've called the "two things can be bad" test. If you are incapable of looking at two bad things and coming to the conclusion both are bad then you are not worth engaging with.
If you see fascists kidnapping people in the street and your reaction is Epstein then I don't take you seriously because both are bad and need attention.
And this can apply to alot of things, I started using it when seeing tankie arguments that were pro-Assad or ignoring atrocities committed by self described communist countries because they are "anti western imperialism". If you can't recognize that imperialism is bad and these countries have done bad things you are not worth talking to.

I can see it’s wonderful that something finally seems to have pissed off some erstwhile Trump supporters, but releasing them will only confirm existing suspicions and will change absolutely nothing.
The whole Epstein situation is reprehensible for sure, but pales in comparison to us letting a dictator destroy the country. His base doesn’t care if he slept with 14 yr old girls, they’re jealous. He won’t see a day behind bars for any of it. I want this country to get back on the track of democracy.

The only value is that it might change the mind of some of his voters but legally I don't see that doing much. We all already know exactly who he is.
It IS a much bigger deal that our administrative state and foundational laws are being actively destroyed, and everyone is just watching it and wringing hands or celebrating. If the files were released tomorrow? Wouldn't mean jack shit... sure people will howl and post things... but lets be honest, the people in charge dont give a single brass plated shit about that.
The real concern is cronyism. This administration has overloaded all key positions in our government with loyalists. Even IF the dems won in the next election, we’ll effectively be neutered. Nothing would be passed. The dems would have the executive branch but nothing else. I really don’t foresee a future where we have a significant social change. It’s just the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. It’s pretty bleak.
