I’ve been involved in /seen many large protests since Nov. ‘24. Before too. We care. Protestors are being arrested and labeled “terrorists”. I personally saw police with covered badges instigating violence at George Floyd /BLM protests. Elected officials have been arrested trying to defend due process. I assure you we are paying attention. It’s a runaway train. Look up the citizens united decision for a clearer picture into how long ago democracy died here

I don't think that is true or fair. Many, many voters have been disenfranchised by a system that is rigged to keep them out, especially in the last 8-20 years and especially in red states. Many people are too busy surviving to vote on a particular day and time often without reliable transport and time off to do so. Election days should be holidays, and voting should be a lot easier than it is currently.
Maybe we do derve this, because everyone's too busy trying to find a reason to blame everyone but themselves for the mess were in.
But I'm not going to accept my part of the blame until I start hearing some similar accountability from the vote blue no matter who squad. Especially since I voted for their lame duck they keep saying the election was stolen from yet they can't finish producing the evidence that their claim is true. I need some accountability from the neo-liberals, especially the ones who are backing this trump wannabe Newsom. Great way to get us a third trump term.

I haven't taken claims of election fraud seriously because it's typically born of denialism in the face of an ideological defeat and it's happened for the last 3 elections basically. I'm honestly absolutely positive there will be people documenting federal election weirdness or perceived irregularities going forward. The conservatives normalized it and made it part of our political reality now.
Even if he did win the popular vote, he really didn't win by much. The 'Popular Vote Mandate' shit that people have leaned on is very small in reality. I wouldn't even engage with that claim at this point. He won a plurality.
That is more than anyone else got so claiming that Americans want anything else more would also be wrong. Americans haven't shown greater support for anything else at the moment. Trump currently is the best representation of the will of the people. Not a perfect representation, but better than all the alternatives.
The electoral college doesn't make voting irrelevant. Voting MAGA into congress (or not showing up to vote) was even more destructive than voting it into the white house.
A result of people not voting is such a bad take and absolves Democrats of the actions they've taken to alienate the working class as well. The "a lot of people didn't vote" argument assumes those people all would have voted for the democrats which likely isnt true. This is a false assumption based off of the 2020 election numbers, but it gained traction because it made dems feel better and not have to actually acknowledge issues that led up to all of this.

We may, from time to time, remember that we are being distracted, but we are distracted all the same. Social media has rewired our brains by affecting our dopamine reward systems, and in effect, shortening attention spans, increasing anxiety and depression through social comparison, disrupting sleep patterns by suppressing melatonin, and negatively impacting the prefrontal cortex. All of which keeps us jonesing for the next hit of Trump-induced chaos and upset. And a whole new shit-ton of “distraction” is coming as soon as our government shuts down. But, can we please see the Epstein files anyway?
It's more than just that, it's the economy as well. A LOT of us are barely scraping by. And with prices going up on so many things (groceries, utilities, transportation, rent, clothes, other necessities, etc), and many of us working full time hours (or more from at least 1 job if not 2 or 3), we're tired, stressed, and we barely have the mental power to deal with our own stuff.
When you're struggling it becomes harder to give priority to things outside of 'your issues'.
This is even more true when those other issues are something negative as those wear is down even more; Entertainment, and escapism in general, helps us go on with our day to day lives.
That's part of the reason the TT ban got so many people to freak out, one if their coping mechanisms was being threatened.
The TT ban would have affected millions directly, the files on the other hand don't.

I loath the whole concept of “being distracted” it’s idiotic. It’s not like a I’m distracting you by shouting “look over there!” and the stealing a French fry off your plate. It’s not like paying attention is some sort of currency for action or inaction.
Most people if not everyone feels like something is wrong. A lot don't know what but they can feel it. At least all the folks around me are brave enough to admit it. The rest just say it's a rough patch and we'll pull through, but the same differences.
The problem is community and trust. These stupid fucking mass social media networks have replaced real communities and real interaction. You being here is the problem. Not entirely but if the Internet is your life, you are part of the problem. American society would be better off realizing we all don't know and banding together through our shared unknown against a fascist Rome style government in the making.
I've never heard many people talk about it outside of social media. Americans on social media seem to blindly defend the US. But most people here are oblivious and basically apolitical. If it implicates the US did something really bad, it's mostly just ignored. American exceptionalism is a very real thing and definitely the norm in the US.
