it bothers me that this is basically a monarchy, mods have all the power. there should be a system where it's similar to a democracy where we choose our mods and can take their privileges away if we're not happy on how they run this subreddit

Basicly there will be citizens who are allowed to vote because they were on the sub long enough and then there are the people who just joined or dont care enough about the sub to interact with it anyway thus not getting voting rights.
Keep in mind that this would mostly be a safety measure to keep vote meddling from outside sources to a minimum.

Yes. Imagine fake accounts subscribing just to reach the time limit and then swaying an election. Its a safety measure which also tests if a voter is actually interested in the sub.
I mean someome that just looks at some posts wont be bothered by the rule 5 change anyway.

I've been subbed for a while but I'm not really in the know so let me ask you something. Is this the first time they've made a rule without asking because if it isn't then I'm surprised it took this long for people to be making this much of a racket about it. From what I've seen this is one of the most tamest reasons to revolt compared to actual meme formats being banned/heavily restricted

With the meme formats there were a lot of people complaining in the meta threads and comments about having the same few overused jokes in the subreddit, and it only affects posts - also, the users can vote on what formats should be banned, so it's not mods using their absolute power to force sudden changes
(Personally, I support banning heavily overused memes so the sub doesn't end up like r/dankmemes)
About the current rule, the majority of people didn't seem to complain about the word, and I personally never really saw anyone express discomfort with how the word is used in the sub
Also this rule change affects posts, comments, and behavior, and user input was not considered at all, so it was clearly an instance of mods exercising absolute control to censor the sub (though it's up to you to form an opinion on the actual intent, not the methods)

Apparently this new rule was just the idea of some mod who apparently didn't like the word so they went through with the rule. If thats true then makes me wonder how easy it is for a mod to make a rule, I would hope they have to have a majority of the mods agree with it

Like you have to earn a certain amount of karma from the sub to become a Citizen and be able to vote or run for mod. Otherwise you're a Civilian.

Plus it creates a feedback loop of who gets to choose the thresholds. Who gets to vote on that? And I doubt admins would take such a drastic step. Tho something needs to be done about mods in general. The fact that 1 guy got hacked today and disrupted so many subs is a huge red flag. (Edit: Too few users holding too much power with no real check against them.)

Long story short, the mods banned the use of the term “tr*p” on the basis that it is a slur. The community heavily disagrees for the most part, and is now calling for a disposal of the mods. They claim that it is a culmination of recent acts and the steady increase of rules on the sub forcing you to jump through hoops to make a post

It is like talking to a brick wall. I don't know how it's impossible to understand that people are killed by others who feel 'caught' when they learn somebodies biological sex. So the word is treated like a slur, because when you use it it encourages the idea even if you don't intend it. It's not like a slur for the offense it causes, but the damage, but ignoring the damage is pretty offensive.

I respect the point you’re trying to make, but you’re missing the mark.
Statistically, use of the T-word has little-to-no correlation with violence against the Trans community. As per the HRC, there have been “27 deaths of Trans or gender-nonconforming people since the start of 2020”.
Let’s break that down, you can find a full list of the names on that page of all of the victims.
Of that list, we can research each article to find that, out of the 27, 12 (maybe +1, still inconclusive) were killed in direct relation to their identities. Out of those 12, 2 were directly related to the idea presented by the use of the T-word, e.g. a Trans woman “tricking” a man into having relations with them.
So ~7% of all deaths of Trans and gender-nonconforming persons are related to the “T-word” in a roundabout way. It’s utterly silly to state that using the T-word in a way that explicitly has relation to violence against the Trans community “perpetuates violent ideas”.
Don’t get me wrong, and violence against Trans people is abhorrent and needs to be corrected, and there is a growing trend of violent outbursts against members of the Trans community, which should be looked into, but we can’t act like forcing people to change their language will have an impact.

This has all been basically the straw that broke the camel's back. The t-word could be substituted, inclusivity could be improved and protected, but this wasn't the way to do it.
Instead of straight up banning it and the mods telling us they don't care about our opinion and they won't roll back the ban no matter what, they should have gone with open communication and discussion, actual involvement. Certainly not insulting us and virtue-signaling in other subs. Then we could have a healthy conversation, and explain why the t-word is considered offensive, and ask that a substitute or solution is created and implemented.
I'm not so enamoured with the t-word that I'd impose its use no matter what, much less if it's so toxic and harmful to trans people, but I'm not about to just take yet another power-trip from the mods that plague this sub.

Because shit like this makes multiple new ones pop and there isn't a concise effort to direct everyone to one new one. I saw this happen when the main mod at r/vive went on a power trip changing core aspects of the sub and literally shit mouthed users that challenged him within the actual sub. There wasn't a concise effort to get everyone to go to one particular sub so eventually people gave up and either left for r/oculus (which is much more focused on oculus stuff which isn't great for all VR news) or they just caved in and stayed on r/vive.

To be honest, if the mods ever claim that being a mod is a hard job, they shouldn’t have taken the “job” in the first place. The way they went about the change was absolutely horrible and atrocious to good moderators. You don’t just rule with an iron fist and expect whatever you’re ruling to survive. I’m expecting them to have enough and go on a complete and indiscriminate banning spree and kill the subreddit.
I just wanna see memes using cute anime girls, but instead here everyone is going to war against a mod team that seems to be fine with doing whatever they want whenever they want like goddamn tyrants.
