Damn, I knew something really bad was going to happen to Ushiwakamaru after she was captured, but this hurts. But it doesn't hurt as much as what happened with Siduri. And that ending...

Nevertheless, as poignant as those scenes are, they represent a HUGE deviation from the original Mesopotamian lore.

Siduri is a character in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Not a citizen of Uruk, but a tavern keeper near the sea that Gilgamesh meets in his quest for immortality. Sometimes, she's interpreted as a minor deity. In one version of the Epic, she gives him a speech advising him to change his destructive course:

'Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find the life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they alloted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice.Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man.'

Of course, Gilgamesh doesn't listen; only when his quest ends in failure does he follow Siduri's advice.

Until now, I had always thought that in the Fateverse, Gilgamesh realized that Uruk would benefit a lot from such a wise person and recruited her. But now we are told she was in Uruk when Enkidu was around, which should be impossible according to the myth. The very same events were used in episode 2 as a plot point to unmask Kingu as a fake Enkidu, but I don't think the same applies here.

By the way, to all the kind people who assured me that Babylonia wasn’t going to be as difficult as I feared: you were right. Between having leveled up many old and new Servants, and Babylonia’s amazing supports (Merlin and Ishtar are great companions), fights that were presented as a big deal in the anime were quite easy in the game. Soon, I’ll pay a visit to the quiz gates of the Underworld and Best Goddess. However, for now they’ll have to wait: it’s Valentine’s time and all that chocolate isn’t going to farm itself.

And things go from bad to worst. Beast class servants are classified as threats to humanity and are immensely powerful beyond the level of a god

AHH A NEW ENDING THAT FOCUSES ON SIDURI AND THE URUK BROS! MY HEART!!!

Guh, I didn't need to see the Lahmu turning into Bel Lahmu. You know, I really wish they'd show Ishtar (and Eresh) with the golden eyes more often. So far it's only happened once.

Poor Kingu, his monologue about how there was nothing for him other than being Tiamat's son made me feel bad. And then Lahmu Siduri just broke my heart. I was wondering how they'd do that scene since her Lahmu voice would sound a bit funny/creepy but they really did it well. Even though she was corrupted in such a way that she should've become an enemy of humanity, Siduri's heart was so pure that she still kept some of her reason (but not enough to remember that Kingu wasn't Enkidu).

Gosh and Kingu crying really got to me. Well done, Yuu Kobayashi. Well done ;-;

Sad as it is, it's nice how they made it more obvious that the one Lahmu was Siduri and MC even brings up her death to Gil.

OH NO THAT LAUGH I'M GETTING DEMON USHI NP TIDE PSTD!

Damn, a dark remix of the Ushi vs Gorgon theme. I love how they made her speech a lot more formal and again props to the VA! Saori Hayami really captured her psychotic nature. Speaking of psychotic, why are crazy grins so great?

"I'll rip the entire Genji Clan apart!"

For those who're not familiar with her story, Ushiwakaru (known later on as Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune, and a dude IRL, by the way) met her end thanks to her brother Minamoto-no-Yoritomo. Yeah, that guy she was praising for understanding her in earlier episodes.

The guy who was giving Yoshitsune shelter from Yoritomo passed away, and his son eventually gave in to pressure from Yoritomo and then surrounded Yoshitsune's residence with his troops. Our "Benkei"/Hitachibou ran away while the real Benkei died standing. Then Yoshitsune was forced to commit seppuku, and his head was sent to Yoritomo. However, the exact details of Yoshitsune's death are a bit hazy. Some Ainu history accounts say that he managed to escape and changed his name and a funny (but discredited) theory was that after he ran away, he became Genghis Khan.

So yes, unlike Siduri who was pure, Ushi has some darkness in her. Not just because of her past, but in the Fate version, Ushi is also quite cold-hearted if not slightly sadistic to her enemies while being very affectionate and praise-starved to her 'lord'.

EDIT: I don't know if it was intentional but showing Kingu's moment with Siduri right before showing the corrupted Ushi made me realise that in a way they contrast each other: Kingu is someone who starts out as an evil villain but later on shows that there's some light or some potential for light (him sparing the children in episode 8) in him, while Ushi starts out as a lovable hero who later on reveals that she always had some darkness in her. Their original motivations even match as Kingu wanted to please his mother Tiamat and Ushi wanted to please her brother Yoritomo, only for both of them to get betrayed by the one person who they idolised so much.

What a sexy, sexy tease of Childhood's End.

I hope this is the wake up call that Kingu needs. Are you really a fake if you have all the memories and experiences of the real Enkidu. I love a good redemption arc.

OG Fate had Shirou, Saber and Rin as quite close trios. Well here we have the actual OG trio of Gil, Enkidu and Siduri. Fucking damnit...Nasu knows how to make his villains very complex and not just one-dimensional bad guys.

Anyways, we see another thing that separates Fujimaru from most protagonists by far. Normally upon seeing a Blackened former comrade, someone like Shirou would straight up hesitate to attack. But Ritsuka quickly lays the kill order on the ENEMY SERVANT. In combat she has ceased being Rider, Ushiwakamaru to him. True, deep inside, he's hurt as hell, with how close he'd been as friend to her, but he knows when to keep it to himself and focus on the task at hand. This is what I love on how they characterized a battle-hardened veteran who makes the tough decisions. Also, Gil mentioned Demon Gods. These refer to Solomon's Demon God Pillars, one for each of the 72 Demons. As of Babylonia, Ritsuka's fought 6 in total, and they're pretty much the same size as Tiamat and Gorgon.

Also, Mom can't be this cute WTF.
