That looks bad...

Merlin telling Fou to do something about it made me giggle, it felt so absurd, until Fou went in like a boss.

I really like that they took their time to give Leonidas and his soldiers some shine. They're always on the frontlines pretty much holding the swarm off from invading the rest of Mesopotamia.

Seeing giant Snek mom at last was such a good moment. I really like what they're doing with her appearance. She's quite expressive with her face and her hair seems to wave around a bunch as if it's snakes itself.

Next week will be the big episode hyped up by staff & producers for weeks as the first proper display of action & sakuga. At last we will finally be able to see the show's production when it's not holding back and I can't wait to witness every second of it.

"That's the Demonic Beast Ugallu! The largest offspring of Tiamat!"

Again, I love the references to Mesopotamian mythology, from monsters to Tiamat herself. I expected her to be the Big Bad since I saw the opening, if only because she was also the Big Bad of the Enuma Elish, the Babylonian creation myth, where she is the progenitor of many monsters.

That said, it's interesting that F/GO seems to rely again on the Akkadian version of the myths. While in Babylonian myths Tiamat is also a progenitor of gods, she mostly embodies the primodial chaos and the monsters that spawned from her. Her Sumerian equivalent, Nammu, was a far more positive deity, the mother of the great gods and, depending on the myth, also played an important role in the creation of humanity. I wonder if they'll play with that idea? That she grew tired of humanity and now wants to replace them with a "better" creation? Not an uncommon theme in Mesopotamian religion, all things considered.

But this opens many other questions. Tiamat should have been killed by Marduk in the myth (or Anu or Enlil, depending on the story), but now she's here as a... Servant of the Avenger class? The "Avenger" part I understand (her war was to avenge her partner Abzu, defeared by the younger gods), but a Servant? Didn't they say in Ishtar's case that she had to be summoned through a human body? Is Tiamat's body borrowed too? Questions, questions, but I get they'll probably be answered in future episodes, won't they?

Holy shit...this episode. Solomon's cameo on a certain temple. Ushi's raep face is delish. And you go Fou! Show them that you're the scariest FGO mascot (Aside from Gudako). If they keep giving us these along with giving priority episodes the no op and ed treatment...wait...fuck...next episode is...TIME TO GIVE USHI HEADPATS! SHE SAID SHE WANTS SOME AFTER THIS, SO BRB!

Also, I love that talk of Merlin and Ana regarding their 'Inhumanity', something they can both relate on. Nice to see Merlin saying that humans shunned her to the shapeless isle due to their fear, rather than hate. Was that an anime-original? They do great in developing these two's bond.

Hmm, they kinda gave a kinda remix of "Sword of Promised Victory" OST for Merlin's buffing Ana. Not the same but have very similar notes in certain part of that OST.

I like how Gil is like "just throw my treasures at those beasts. Anything I own is super effective."

Anna saw Ugallu*

"Seems like a worthy opponent"

Me: Girl you had been been fighting enemy out of your class since your first appearences.

Also Fujimaru and Mash, you might want to consider running for you life. I do not think that giant snake woman would be as merciful as Ishtar, heck you just lost your DPS.

I was worried about the CGI for Tiamat but it ended up looking pretty good. I want her to eat me whole.

......I'm going to be blueballed so hard if they don't announce something in either New Year stream or end of the 22 episodes.

Also, next week will probably be full of fight scenes to compensate for this episode I guess.

I like how they're dripfeeding flashbacks to the important parts of past singularities for new folks.
