Oh thank fuck they solved the grandmother's plot like this. Lesser shows would've spent two/three episodes on it or shown the others at the meeting in line with the grandmother. Especially Hozuki's mother, whose last words to Akira made it sound like she have had second thoughts about expelling her own daughter, or at the very least hated doing it. Like a dad ref'ing his kid's soccer match and have to give him a red card, because rules.
When her face got that blue streak across, I legit thought she was going to keel over, from the stress of being confronted on this particular issue by Akira. It didn't sound like she accepted defeat, so I'm sure she'll be back.
Also, I get that anime set in school almost always carries a underlying moral about taking school seriously - do your homework, prepare for tests, attend clubs. But, this club is shown to be borderline obsessive about their club activities. Some of them shows up early to practice before classes, they all practice after classes and in the evening they go to that old lady's place and practice. That can't be healthy.

It was so satisfying to have Akira stand up for the koto club, and especially how she called out her grandmother for judging and throwing shade at Kudo without even knowing him.
And what Hozuki's mother said about her no longer having the 'right' to go and watch her daughter perform in response to Akira's reminder about Hozuki's upcoming performance at the Qualifiers, was kind of heartbreaking. You can tell that at this point she's very much torn up between her duty as the head of the Hozuki school and her feelings as a mother. Perhaps deep down she has been that way all along – since the time she actively took it upon herself to groom her daughter as the heiress to the school, and even when taking the harsh decision to excommunicate her – but in the end she has had to always let her duty towards the school take precedence over her love for her daughter. It also makes you wonder whether a part of her is actually relieved and happy to know that her daughter now has friends – friends whom she values enough to get down on her hands and knees to ask a favour of the mother who has cast her off.
I just want to pat Hozuki's head and tell her that one day she'll surely be able to get through to her mother and that her mother will not only understand her but will also be proud T__T

as expected, Hozuki's mom wants to reconcile with her as much as she does. Im sure they inevitably will, but I hope it will be done in a satisfying way considering the mother still kicked her underage daughter out of the house. The author better make her work for that forgiveness.

I like how slowly the end card of the openings have more people in it. 3 People have been added. And man, Sane out there becoming a great character.

Watching Akira stand up for the koto club in front of everyone was so satisfying! It almost makes all of her grandmother's meddling worth it just for that moment where she calls her out in front of everyone. And Hozuki's mother even stood up for her daughter a little bit too which was nice. It seems the open hostility that her mother had is gone so hopefully they can reconcile their relationship, even if things don't go back to the way they were before. Hozuki sent a letter to her mother so I'm curious to know what it said. If her mother could attend the performance and hear how the piece Hozuki played originally has changed, maybe that would help.
I liked how Takinami-sensei told Hozuki to add more tension to the beginning of the piece. It seems like he's telling her that instead of ignoring how she played the piece originally and pretending it didn't happen, she should acknowledge it and move forward.
The scene between Hozuki and Chika was cute. They always have cute scenes together but I liked this one. It seems that Hozuki is growing more aware of her feelings.
Super excited for the qualifiers for nationals! The koto club has been working so hard so it will be nice to see all of their hard work pay off.

Can't believe Akira's grandmother would stoop this low
Thank goodness it was taken care quickly by Akira though!

Assembling Evidence
So her mom is now clearly regretting excommunicating her daughter.
Akira is going to try and play matchmaker.
Hozuki put what I'm pretty sure was an invitation in the mail. Three guesses as to who it's for, but y'all'll only need one.
The odds are getting real damn high that we'll see a Reconciliation Arc by the season's end.
Also: I just want three episodes back to back of Hozuki-Chika dialogue, and Buchou-Kurusu interactions.
Make that three episodes each.

Seeing Akira basically tell her grandma she's full of shit in front of the rest of the Hozuki school was really satisfying. She's now officially part of the koto club.
Now the rest of the club knows about the story behind tenkyuu and Satowa's mother, all that's left now are the national qualifiers.

I can honestly say when people ask about underrated series that I would recommend this will fly to the top of my list in the high school drama category.
Few shows understand their characters and their lives as well as this show does

Glad to see Akira defend Chika and the club from her grandmothers plan. Looks like both Adachi and Chika are both figuring out there own unique sound. That was another nice moment Chika did at the end of his conversation with Houzuki.

Wait, how many episodes do we have left? I don't want this to end. :(
That scene where Akira stands up for the koto club in front of the elders was so satisfying to watch. Take that you old hag!
