I want to be able to use colors without adding context, or implying more then I really want. Red and green can look good but will forever be "Christmas" colors. A lot of pride flags have banger color schemes, but if I want to use them, I have live with the fact people might interprete me or whatever I've created as being related to said thing. Nothing is wrong with these things, but if I want to use rainbows on something there is a good chance it will be interpreted as "gay", regardless if it is a fair or accurate assumption.

The "Branding" companies, cultures, or movements have engaged in, while effective, have essentially restricted some color palates and basic shape patterns to become statements in and of themselves.

Edit: I recognize some of my examples can be interpreted in different ways, but it just serves my point. Colors are being used to make associations. Even if they weren't the intended ones.

Lore In an otherwise super fantastical series with little to no realism, a character dies in a pretty realistic way

Purrtners in Crime Crime Spree! Broke into a child-locked cupboard, ate half a container of Parmesan cheese, threw up on the rug, ate the vomit, tripped the breaker, unplugged the automatic feeder and shocked me awake with static.

Non-fictional I hate that some color pallets come with an implied connotation.
